PODCAST: Mary Warlick
I’ve just finished watching ‘Coco Chanel Unbuttoned’. Not only did I discover Coco wasn’t her real name (Gabrielle), I discovered her philosophy. Pre-Coco, high end fashion used the finest, most expensive materials, like silk, lace and satin – a visual display of one’s wealth. Coco chose instead, the basic materials she’d grown up with, poor and in an orphanage. Like jersey, previously used to…

a non-exhaustive list of things i forgot were in crimson peak:

the lad from sons of anarchy is here
the lad from sons of anarchy is also an ophthalmologist and god did that make me feel like a sleeper agent being woken up (iih nation rise up)
owen from torchwood is also also here??? i swear hes in every movie i dont expect him to be in
just how many homoerotic vibes tom hiddleston shares with both bobby singer and the lad from sons of anarchy
how intense the homoerotic vibes between lucille and edith are; i didnt forget them but wow its gayer than i remember
its like so much gorier than i remembered and also the gore is 10/10 very good
how goddamn amazing fernando velázquez's score is, it really ties the whole movie together
i swear i always forget just how good doug jones and javier botet are despite having watched them in so many movies but god these dudes are so good at their jobs
i remember thinking thomas sharpe was the most charming man and im not gonna judge 15-year-old me, i was in my loki era still
there was a dog????? such a good boy????? dog??????
all the symbolism in the costuming (thank you kaz rowe for highlighting that)
the sharpes having like proto-wetherspoons crockery
how slutty tom hiddleston looks with his waistcoat open
their house looks like a sims house (affectionate)
sometimes a family can be the victorian-edwardian version of the folgers christmas advert, a naïve american girl who can see ghosts, a random dog she found, her doctor friend, and the ghosts of her husbands 3 past wives, the murdered mother of the folgers and their dead baby. dont judge them.

sonic boom season 3 ep where its groundhog day and usually fastidious beaver is the "groundhog" but he broke his leg this year so they get shadow to do it instead because... shadows. and also they do it without him knowing because he wouldve said no and beat someone up if they asked him directly
anyway shadow emerges from his cave that apparently isnt even his cave according to alan denton :///// and doesnt see his shadow which usually means an early spring but instead a thunderstorm starts rolling in and so the villagers get the bright idea to form a mob and ambush shadow in the hopes that itll clear the weather and team sonic has to save the day. except like... theyre mainly doing it to save the villagers from impending doom, not shadow. dear g*d dont let shadow find out what they did hell bash their skulls in
it culminates in a standoff in front of the cave that isnt actually shadows and theyre all yelling back and forth at each other and shadow just wants everyone to shut up so he starts throwing rocks at both sides

Spoilers for Marvel Infinity Comic #31

Snikt Family Road Trip Part 5!
written by Stephanie Williams, art by Alan Robinson
Spoilers:
The continuation of our tale opens with how Jonathan got captured in the first place!
It provides a little insight into how Jonathan perceives the world -- for example, he actually only understands certain words instead of full sentences, much like a really smart dog would.
Anyway, he made his way back to the RV, but found himself unable to get in, because he has no thumbs. He takes a nap outside the RV, waking up to a delicious smell! The smell turns out to be a trail of (oddly colored) cookies. Jonathan happily munches on them, but alas, it turns out they were also drugged!
Jonathan is bagged by a mysterious figure, and the scene shifts to him in a cage tossed in a basement. But luckily, he notices the RV pull up and calls out to his family!
Like a creepy cult, the family comes out dressed in all white and welcome the Snikt Fam to Honey Badger Heaven! Akihiro wastes no time and asks what’s up with the basement, because he hears weird noises. Laura agrees. But the Honey Badger Cult Family offers them a tour, which they agree to (so they can investigate what’s going on)
Jonathan, disappointed they didn’t hear him, strikes up a conversation with an actual honey badger in an adjacent cage (said honey badger spent a summer abroad, so he speaks wolverine, lol) The honey badger informs him that the cage bars are weak, and they haven’t filed his teeth down yet, s he should be able to bite through the cage. And he does!
He promises the honey badgers he will return to free them, and sneaks his way out. It’s an adorable sequence of sneaking through air ducts, then expertly evading a guard through hiding in plain sight, before coming across a secret room with Snikt Fam-specific stuff! (a piece of flannel shirt, weapon X helmet, a set of Logan’s claws, etc. Turns out the family is double-dipping in honey badgers and our Snikt Family!) There’s also a portrait of the Honey Badger Family captioned as the Top Benefactors (was the commonwealth mine thing planned? Dun dun DUUUUNNNNNN)
Jonathan finally finds our Snikt Fam, knocked out and tied up in a tiny lab filled with surgical tools!
To be continued!
This issue was very Jonathan-focused, had lots of cute visual gags -- “DP was here” in the vent was funny, Jonathan strikes a few cute poses.
One small gripe I have is the animal designs.  For example, Jonathan’s teeth. I just don’t like how he basically has buck teeth like a beaver. Genetically-modified or no, he’s a predatory animal! Where are his canines. On a lesser note, the honey badgers noses are also built more like a mole than a honey badger. It just strikes me as a bit off.
There was also a couple more subtle Scooby-doo references. For example, Jonathan says “Ruh-oh” at the end and the hiding in plain sight thing (although it didn’t give way to a comical chase scene this time). The storytelling continues to be a bit silly and wholesome. It’s very fun!

HOW I GREW UP
Alan R Brodd
I grew up in Millville Massachusetts and was raised by lower middle class parents during a time when most everyone treated each other with respect. We didn't eat fast food because it was considered a treat, not a food group. We drank Kool-Aid made from water that came from our kitchen sink with real sugar and Hi-C. We ate bologna sandwiches, PB&J & grilled cheese sandwiches, hot dogs, but mostly homemade meals consisting of mainly meat, potatoes, vegetables, bread, butter, and homemade dessert.
We grew up during a time when we mowed lawns, pulled weeds, babysat, helped neighbors with chores to be able to earn our own money.
We went outside a lot to play~Kick ball, football, basketball, fish, swim, ride bikes, frisbee, run with friends & played hide and seek. We drank tap water from the water hose outside... bottled water was unheard of. If we had a coke - it was in a glass bottle... and we didn’t break the bottle when finished…
We watched TV shows like Good Times, The Jefferson’s, Bonanza, Alf, Different Strokes, Full House, Leave It To Beaver, Flipper, Gilligan's Island, Happy Days, Bewitched, The Brady Bunch, The Rifleman, Zorro, Daniel Boone, Looney Tunes, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Sanford and Son, Dukes of Hazzard, WWF Wrestling, I Dream of Jeannie and I Love Lucy. After school, we came home and did homework and chores, before going outside or having friends over. We would ride our bikes for hours. We had to tell our parents where we were going, who we were going with, and be home when the street lights came on!
You LEARNED from your parents instead of disrespecting them, and treating them as if they knew absolutely nothing. What they said was LAW, and you did not question it, and you had better know it!!!
In school we said the Pledge of Allegiance, we stood for the National Anthem, and listened to our teachers.
We watched what we said around our elders because we knew if we DISRESPECTED any grown-up we would get our behinds whipped, it wasn't called abuse, it was called discipline! We held doors, carried groceries, and gave up our seat for an older person without being asked. You didn't hear curse words on the radio in songs or TV, and if you cursed and got caught you had a bar of soap stuck in your mouth.
“Please, Thank you, yes please, no thank you, yes ma'am, no ma'am yes sir, and no sir were part of our daily vocabulary!
You grew up to respect the Nation, and the flag.
Re-post if you're thankful for your childhood, I will never forget where I came from and only wish children now days had half the chance at the fun and respect for real life we grew up with!
The world we live in now is just so full of crooked people, hate and disrespect for others!
Those where the Days my friend!
Loved my childhood!

Alan Dowson: The Non-League Promotion Specialist
For clubs outside of the Premier league, each season starts with one ultimate goal, to be promoted to the league above. In non-league football there are few with greater pedigree in this than current Dartford FC boss, Alan Dowson. Dowson holds the enviable record of being promoted with each and every club he’s managed throughout his 19-year coaching career. Meaning he has earned a reputation as a non-league promotion specialist.
A tough tackling centre half in his playing days, Dowson turned out for the likes of Millwall and Fulham before eventually beginning his career in coaching via a player-manager role at Walton and Hersham FC. It was here that Dowson claimed his first promotion as a manager which would ultimately set him on his way to becoming one of the most sought-after bosses in the non-league game.
Tumblr media
Dowson spent 11 years at Walton and Hersham as a player and then a manager and it’s a spell that he looks back on with great fondness. “Obviously being given my first opportunity to coach a side is something that was absolutely massive for me and to do it with a club that I’d spent such a long time at as a player meant it was a very important time in my career.” During his time at the The Swans, Dowson led the Surrey based outfit to promotion from the Isthmian league, in his first season at the helm. Although he didn’t remain at the club for long, resigning in January of 2007 to join Kingstonian. It was here that Dowson enjoyed his longest stint as manager of a club, remaining at The K’s for 7 years. The club achieved promotion in Dowson’s second full season in charge after being crowned champions of the Isthmian Division One South. Dowson comments that his promotion winning campaigns at Kingstonian and Walton and Hersham gave him ‘a great deal of belief’ that he could achieve similar success higher up the non-league ladder. Kingstonian became stable in the Isthmian premier and narrowly missed out on further success with playoff defeats at the semi-final and final stage during the four seasons Dowson took charge of in the division.
Tumblr media
Having resigned at the end of the 2013-2014 season Dowson was offered the opportunity to take over at 7th tier Hampton and Richmond Borough. Dowson explained his reasoning for taking the job stating “It was a club we felt had obvious potential to move upwards and when the job came up it was a pretty straightforward decision to be honest.” The potential that Dowson and his staff saw was realised as The Beavers romped to the title in Dowson’s third season losing only seven games and scoring 105 goals in the process, with now QPR winger Jamal Lowe starring throughout. Not content with stabilisation during his first stint in the National league south, Dowson guided Hampton and Richmond to consecutive playoff finishes losing to Ebbsfleet at the semi final stage and then to Braintree on penalties in the following years promotion final. Dowson notes his time at The Beavers as being “absolutely vital in his career” as it enhanced his reputation to the level that he was suited by the likes of Woking and Dartford.
Having been poached by Woking following The Cards relegation from The National League, Dowson oversaw an immediate return to the top tier of non-league football after a 1-0 playoff final victory over Welling United. An FA cup run in the same season saw Woking earn a tie with then premier league side Watford which they lost by only two goals to nil. A first season back in the National league saw Woking finish in 10th place. However two consecutive seasons operating in the lower half of mid-table saw Dowson sacked for the first and only time in his managerial career. Dowson however, looks back on his time at The Cards with a lot of pride. “Getting promotion at the first attempt and then being able to stabilise back in the national league was something that I feel me and my staff are very proud of and had it not been for disruptions due to the pandemic, I certainly feel we could’ve taken the club further.”
Since his dismissal from Woking, Alan Dowson has taken up the challenge of leading Dartford FC back to the National league. The Darts have been in and around the promotion places since their relegation in the 13-14 season however have consistently fallen short, often ending with heartbreak in the playoffs. At time of writing Dartford sit handsomely in 2nd place and despite the league title being out of reach, The Darts are well placed for a good run in the playoffs. Upon arriving at Dartford, Dowson linked up with football legend, Martin Tyler, as well as former Woking winger Christian Jolley who he then hired as his assistant manager. It is Jolley’s first time as an assistant coach but it is a challenge he is relishing. “It’s been great, especially working alongside the gaffer who I know really well. It’s a fantastic club here at Dartford and the atmosphere in the squad is excellent.” Jolley was part of the Woking side that Alan Dowson lead to promotion in 2019 meaning he is well aware of Dowson’s promotion magic. “Being able to work alongside a manager who is so consistent at gaining promotion gives so much confidence to not only the squad but the staff working alongside him.”
Tumblr media
Dowson’s promotion expertise could be exactly what Dartford need to end their run of playoff heartbreak and gain promotion back to the The National League. Only time will tell whether Alan Dowson continues his 100% promotion record at The Darts but with the CV that Dowson holds you sense it is a matter of when not if Dartford are playing National league football again. Regardless of the outcome this season at Dartford, with four promotions at his four previous clubs it is obvious why Dowson has got a reputation of being a promotion specialist.

I have quite a few AOT OC’s, but I kinda lost them 🥲. This is my latest OC and his name is Alan Tyreese. He became the beast Titan at age 20 and his Titan is based off of a beaver! He was used in many naval battles, being able to pulled ships at faster speeds, chop a wooden ship clean in half with one bite, and send enemy ships flying with a slap of his tail. His Titan form was used for constructing dams and buildings as well as destroying them. A single slap of his tail could send a small tsunami crashing into a city or military base. His tail could also send shockwaves through the ground that disrupted structures, vehicles, and soldiers. He earned many medals and awards for his military service and even married and had two kids.
