As cameras becomes more normalized (Sarah Bernhardt encouraging it, grifters on the rise, young artists using it), I wanna express how I will never turn to it because it fundamentally bores me to my core. There is no reason for me to want to use cameras because I will never want to give up my autonomy in creating art. I never want to become reliant on an inhuman object for expression, least of all if that object is created and controlled by manufacturing companies. I paint not because I want a painting but because I love the process of painting. So even in a future where everyone’s accepted it, I’m never gonna sway on this.
if i have to explain to you that using a camera to take a picture is not the same as using generative ai to generate an image then you are a fucking moron.
#ask me#anon#no more patience for this#i've heard this for the past 2 years#“an object created and controlled by companies” anon the company cannot barge into your home and take your camera away#or randomly change how it works on a whim. you OWN the camera that's the whole POINT#the entire point of a camera is that i can control it and my body to produce art. photography is one of the most PHYSICAL forms of artmakin#you have to communicate with your space and subjects and be conscious of your position in a physical world.#that's what makes a camera a tool. generative ai (if used wholesale) is not a tool because it's not an implement that helps you#do a task. it just does the task for you. you wouldn't call a microwave a “tool”#but most importantly a camera captures a REPRESENTATION of reality. it captures a specific irreproducible moment and all its data#read Roland Barthes: Studium & Punctum#generative ai creates an algorithmic IMITATION of reality. it isn't truth. it's the average of truths.#while conceptually that's interesting (if we wanna get into media theory) but that alone should tell you why a camera and ai aren't the sam#ai is incomparable to all previous mediums of art because no medium has ever solely relied on generative automation for its creation#no medium of art has also been so thoroughly constructed to be merged into online digital surveillance capitalism#so reliant on the collection and commodification of personal information for production#if you think using a camera is “automation” you have worms in your brain and you need to see a doctor#if you continue to deny that ai is an apparatus of tech capitalism and is being weaponized against you the consumer you're delusional#the fact that SO many tumblr lefists are ready to defend ai while talking about smashing the surveillance state is baffling to me#and their defense is always “well i don't engage in systems that would make me vulnerable to ai so if you own an apple phone that's on you”#you aren't a communist you're just self-centered

oughhhh... could you pretty pretty please write a little bit about yan wanderer's reaction to realizing his darling is slowly but surely falling for him as well... a good spoonful fluff would also be appreciated if you're able to make it work!!! i lauve hardcore yanderes who are at the same time caring and soft partners </3

; soft yandere, drabble, modern au, college au, roommates, not proofread. i'm sorry anon i really didn't manage to capture his reaction in detail, i fear.

when sharing a living space with someone else, care is obligatory. it's unspoken, only verbalized through the harmonious split between chores, the shared duties of cooking, and the quiet humming of moving around the apartment. though, the word 'split' is much too generous of a word, with the way your roommate constantly insists on doing more than half of the chores all the time. in the beginning, you had suspected that the roommate you had gotten from the facebook group was a clean freak, obsessed with all things meticulous and proper.
you had been wrong.
his movements when cleaning are clumsy, his cooking leans toward being charred oftentimes, and he always mixes up the colored fabrics with the white ones. for quite some time, this disparity left you perplexed. why bother insisting when he can't even execute the chores properly in the first place?
you decided you had had enough when your favorite white t-shirt ended up being a mix of pink and red.
you trudge towards his elusive room, standing in front of his locked door. you only got to knock once before the door swings open with a loud bang, scaramouche stares at you with a look you can't quite place as he asks the purpose of your visit. with a sigh, you mindlessly reach out to wrap your arm around his slender wrist - the physical contact leaves him flinching.
"come with me," you urge, not thinking much of his reaction. you guide him outside his room and into the hallway that leads to the washroom.
"wah- why?" he sputters, gaze burning holes into your fingers.
"if you're so insistent on doing the laundry each and every time, then at least let me teach you how to do it properly," you sigh out, voice exasperated yet tinged with an undeniable softness. perhaps you should have been more annoyed at him for ruining some of your clothes because of his inadequacy, yet you can't deny that you appreciate the fact that he cares.
care is obligatory. but to care to this extent... is not.
you spent the entire evening drilling into his stubborn, indigo-head the rundown of doing the laundry. amidst the strange flush in his cheeks and the sudden, shy behavior he sometimes exhibits, you come to learn more about your roommate. you even delve into letting him allow you to create breakfast - charred toast and overcooked rice can only last you so long, after all.
still, he insists on cleaning and laundry duty no matter how much you bargained.
as you finish putting in the last batch of dirty laundry into the washing machine, you realize that there are many things you wonder about scaramouche. for one, why bother living with someone else when his life, that you've seen through cracks and glimpses, is of him coming from a wealthy background?
you truly don't understand him at times. well, most times.
the two of you retire to your respective rooms. scaramouche lingers around the entrance of his room, and when you send him an inquisitive glance, he utters out a hasty 'goodnight!' before slamming the door shut in your face.
you blink in disbelief before walking back to your own room. when you shut the door close is only then did you realize something. without your knowledge, it seems that a smile had long bloomed upon your face. you don't know when it got here, but suspect it had long been present.
the following morning, scaramouche wakes up to the smell of freshly cooked rice and perfectly browned chicken thighs. he nearly bashes his head into the wall in elation when he sees you waiting patiently for him. In between passing each other chopsticks and plates of food, scaramouche doesn't miss the way you now view him with a profound softness that differs from the day before.
he excuses himself into the bathroom to jump around in utmost joy once it sinks into his mind. while he may not be the best helper around the apartment, he certainly knows how to capture his beloved's heart in the most boyfailure way possible.
#in which true love is found in your roommate that you found in a fb page (that he willingly planted himself in)#who also happens to look like that guy from your yt algorithm... hm.#i subject you to... loverboy scara for today <3#outro's asks <3#outro's interlude <3#tw yandere#soft yandere#yandere genshin impact#yandere x reader#yandere genshin#yandere male#yandere scaramouche#scaramouche x reader#scaramouche#genshin impact#genshin x reader#genshin impact x reader#wanderer x reader

yay we survived 2024 my takeaway is that i'm consistently inconsistent and always on that experimental style grind
we stay drawing despite the horrors✌️
#the algorithm demands consistency#and i always fail to deliver#it's so so boring to draw the same way or same subjects all the time#if im going to use my limited time and more limited wrist energy#im gonna spend it experimenting and improving#this is probably why i struggle to finish a long project like comics#my weakness rip#my art#2024 summary#2024 art summary

once again feeling very grateful for my curated internet experience bc the only takes i have seen so far on my dash about the AO3 thing have been "this is pretty clearly bad actors posing as another group to stoke racist fears, be smarter and more compassionate than that"

We used to be a proper country...
#this is a new low...#as sad I am Mysme is slowly dying I'm very glad the RFA hasn't been subject to this kind of debauchery...#even Jumin's bad ending dlc is done with a lot of respect and is not just shameless fanservice#mystic messenger#mysme#the ssum#cheritz#I mean I know this is common in these kind of games but Cheritz never needed to resort to that...#yes. I share that same victorian sensibility with Jumin 🤷 what about it?#oh I have the pictures blurred on twitter so I only watch the pictures I want because of the algorithm#also because I'm poor 🤷

you can always tell the people who give social media advice who are naturally or conventionally attractive even without even having to look at a photo of them cause they're always the ones that recommend showing your face in reels or videos to promote your art and it's like,,, talk about pretty/skinny privilege lol
#it's one of those days folks#brb going on an extreme diet (jk but not really)#okay but really. all jokes aside Even if I WAS thin or lost a bunch of weight...#I'm still just fundamentally unattractive enough that I think i would lose insta followers if I showed my face in reels or posts 🥲#idk I know it's better for the algorithm but eh. i don't want to subject my subscribers to having to look at me lol#and I would wear makeup but I'm so bad at putting it on that I look worse with it on 😭😂#If i was good at make up i legit wouldn't leave the house without it#that said. i do have decent skin health 🤔 I get like. less than 1 pimple a year IF that. So that's something to be grateful for i suppose#but if a genie offered me a chance to be pretty for ONE day but in exchange I had to give up ALL my talents. interests. personality. etc#and i could never get those aspects of myself back for the rest of my life...#I would 100% take up that opportunity LOL 👍#anyway feel free to ignore me I'm not looking for compliments (I don't think anyone on here even knows what i look like?)#(which is by design lol and trust me. be grateful you don't have to look at my face haha)#I'm just venting into the void bc a mutual on insta did a reel where she showed her face and I was like#*shocked pikachu face* oh she's pretty#oh. oh so THAT's why i never should show my face. I'm pretty toad-like in comparison 😂

There’s another post going around about this, but tumblr won’t let me reblog it but...
When I read a story written by a human being, I’m not just reading it because I want to read a coffee shop AU with a specific plot description. I’m reading it because it’s making a connection to another human storyteller and seeing a piece of them carved into the words. Storytelling is a human act of sharing joy, angst, tension, resolution, satisfaction. It’s an act of love.
Writing and reading a story isn’t just an act of creation and consumption. I hate that commercialism and AI are reducing it to that sort of transaction. Like oh, you need words on this subject and that’s the end of it. Like what we really needed was just a vending machine we can push buttons on to get a fix, as if the human creating the story wasn’t a factor. That the author’s life experience and views and feelings haven’t infused the words with their own unique touches.
I’ve read hundreds of coffee shop AU’s over the years (and thousands of fics in general). I’ve seen many similar tropes reused across stories, and just like an AI would, I’ve learned things about writing them that I will always carry with me. But unlike an AI, a human author is not just the sum total of coffee shop AU’s we’ve consumed. Even if we used the same prompt, the same sets of tropes, the same characters. I will always choose the human-crafted story over the computer generated one.
Because again, I’m not just looking for a very specific fix via a series of words. I’m looking for a human connection through story.
Unlike an AI, I have BEEN to a coffee shop. I’ve had experiences in coffee shops. I’ve had funny little meet-cutes with people. I’ve accidentally spilled coffee on myself and knocked heads with someone as we both rushed to wipe it up. I know what it FEELS like. The machine doesn’t.
I’ve also read millions of things that aren’t fanfic, or coffee shop AU’s. I’ve experienced things OTHER than going to coffee shops and having meet-cutes. And I know what all those things feel like when processed through my personal human lens of experience, which is different from every other personal human lens of experience.
All the machine can do is spit out what it THINKS a human experience is, and I honestly don’t care about that at all. Fic is not a “product” to be “generated.” It’s an art form that connects us to other people who share the same love of a thing that we do.
People who, even when all writing the same characters in the same setting to the exact same prompt, will all add something or have a viewpoint about something or bring a completely different personality and life experience to the story that no one else on the planet could. That’s what I’m actually reading.
#ai shit#adventures in fanfic#i detest this commodification of art being accelerated by ai tech#as if art was nothing more than a consumer product#i want to engage with art made by people who were driven by a passion to make something and share it with us#not working to an algorithm to generate specific 'content' (and can we agree that reducing art to 'content' is part of the problem here)#and this whole concept of 'death of the author' that has been warped so far beyond what it actually means >.>#it just... makes me incredibly sad to see so many people arguing FOR the use of ai in the arts#like way to miss the whole entire point of what the arts even are#but this reminds me of the fic writer challenge i did one summer...#same prompt same set of tropes and every week a dozen completely different stories from a dozen different authors#because we all took our own unique spin on the subject because that's what PEOPLE do...#i just lament what will happen to that vast well of creativity and humanity that will be lost if everything just gets replaced#by a machine that just keeps spitting out the 'content' it believes the 'consumer' wants... it's just... depressing af

Can I just say that I wish, I really really wish, people would quit calling 20-24 year old characters "bad" or "childish writing" for literally just... ACTING THEIR AGE?!??! Doubly if they have a disability or are specifically coded to be autistic, adhd etc.
Seriously? Is someone out there seriously implying that everyone magically matures into a grizzled, emotionally constipated war veteran the second a 19 year old crosses the threshold into their noughties?
Think real damn hard on things you did when you were younger if you're older currently. We've ALL done cringe stuff that keeps us up until the wee hours of the morning in embarrassment. Whether it be something we said or clogging up someone's toilet, puking all over the place because we partied too hard or sent literal car parts flying because you were learning to drive. You don't just snap your fingers and BAM! YOU'RE MATURE! CUE THE CELEBRATIONS!
Maturity comes from life experiences, the good times, the cringe moments and the failures. Not age. Otherwise you wouldn't have kids/teens behaving way beyond their years due to ongoing and consistent abuse/neglect, nor childish adults trying to relive their teen years at their 'prime' at the very least.
I don't care if it's a fantasy game or if it's set in the future. If a character is 21/22 I *expect* random stupidity, foot in mouth moments. I expect them to be over confident or make poor decisions at times. That's prime time to be figuring your own identity out, making yourself standalone, supporting friends via learning from said mistakes and experiences they've had. It's not supposed to be smooth or perfect.
#I may or may not be making jabs at people who dump on Andromeda's Ryder and Veilguard's Taash for being 'childish'#Can definitely vouch for Andromeda at least#For Veilguard its been stuff the youtube algorithm has been feeding me because I like games and it assumes I want to see all the negatives#Liking or disliking a character is subjective and that's fine. Not begruding that. It's the reasoning half the time that irks me#or 'criticisms'#If a character has been insulated and protected from trials/struggles/actively learning they won't have the same maturity#whereas someone who has had those experiences will often age beyond their physical years as a coping mechanism#mind you...it's not a 100% foolproof assessment#But I remember on Andromeda's release that people expected Ryder to be like Shepard#The Ryder twins were only 21 and had all opportunities to do stuff for themselves wrecked because of Alec and his research with SAM#Shepard in comparison was 28 at the start of Mass Effect and had already been through literal hell depending on their background#Ryder and Shepard were supposed to be mirrors of one another with the latter learning how to open up beyond the soldier persona#Ryder was supposed to -become- Shepard-like over time and trials#But Ryder didn't get the opportunity due to *very* bitter fandom over ME3 and wanting Shepard to play as again#tack on rushed development and pressure being put on a studio that had only ever made DLC prior and then you get issues#devs aren't completely blameless but I stick things on upper management and EA for being asses more than anything#Either way#Ryder copped it for not being mature enough then too and people ignored just how young and isolated the twins actually were from everything#Also yes I did cringe stuff too in my early 20's and yes I did have to relearn a whole bunch of stuff because autism spectrum made it worse#No i wasn't a party junkie#but yes I have sent my driving instructor's hubcap (among other things) flying#we all do and have done cringy things. it doesn't just magically stop#so no I won't expect a 21 year old to have the same level of maturity as someone who is 27/28 or older

I really think there should be like a big warning label attached to twitter accounts (or any social media really) under the age of 18. 'Yes this person said the stupidest thing you've ever heard. But they're also 16 so 🤷♀️ what are you gonna do' I should be able to just hit a big button and it immediately blocks all people under 18. Yes I know that's literally impossible to implement but I'm old and grumpy lmao.
#i think these bills to ban kids from social media are wrong and harmful. but at the same time#i shouldnt be subjected to a 16 year olds opinion on fanfic and who should or should not be 'allowed' to write it#or policing what people are writing. yes this is about 911twt how did you guess?#i need to fix my algorithm cos its hooked in to them now and i have not known peace since#or actually just get off twitter completely like i keep threatening to#but then you get a day like when luigi got arrested and remember when twitter was actually fun

I screenshotted this to make a joke about linking people to this video when they comment on the tone of Almost Believe They're Real, but then he went on to talk about how he wrote a lavish Dracula puppet musical while unemployed and how he sobbed at the table read for The Muppets because the actual puppets came. So I finished watching like Jason Segel, of all celebrities, is really so me...........
#reiterating that something terrible has happened to my youtube algorithm and i have also made no efforts to fix it#it tells me i want to hear jason segel break down his iconic roles with gq and i say well certainly i am naive to this subject#perhaps i would like to hear it

My biggest writing advice is get used to saying "I hate learning about [X], but I wanna write about [X], so I guess I have to learn about [X]...damn."
#learning about cults has ruined my algorithms#but to write about sensitive topics one must subject oneself to sensitive topics#even tho i grew up in a cult i still feel like i need to see how they vary#and damn i was not ready to hear some of that without a therapy appointment handy

i think ao3's search function is a little TOO good actually. we should go back to the stone age and share fanfiction by passing google docs around by hand. this would do more to foster community and allow, nay, force freaks to find each other. my name is spookyteeths and i approve this message
#this is my one regressive policy#.post#im being soooo serious btw i think ao3 being such a solid website kind of makes it easier for fics to get lost in the sauce#its not subject to the whims of a nebulous algorithm like most social media now but i think there's too much emphasis on quantity#which is fair for a website with archive in its name but my point still stands
