What are some of your favorite 2Pac songs?
It's mean-spirited to make me choose between 2Pac songs. I was trying to limit myself to my ten favorite, but I couldn't do it. I could have included ten songs from All Eyez On Me!
So, here's my favorite of my favorites:
•Life's So Hard [from the ridiculously underrated Gang Related soundtrack] •Never Had a Friend Like Me [Gridlock'd is also underrated, as a soundtrack and as a movie] •Blasphemy •Hit 'Em Up (feat. Outlawz) [Still the greatest diss song ever and I'll die on that hill] •Can't C Me (feat. George Clinton) •Against All Odds •Tradin War Stories (feat. Outlawz & C-Bo) •Keep Ya Head Up •How Do U Want It (feat. K-Ci & Jo-Jo) •Only God Can Judge Me (feat. Rappin' 4-Tay) •I Ain't Mad At Cha (feat. Danny Boy) •Hail Mary (feat. Outlawz) •Ain't Hard 2 Find (feat. C-Bo, D-Shot, B-Legit, E-40 & Richie Rich) [This is the most mid-90s Bay Area hip-hop song you can find outside of Luniz] •I Get Around (feat. Digital Underground) [It was between this and Same Song, but that's more of a Digital Underground song featuring 2Pac instead of the other way around. Same Song has a legendary video, though.]

🎶✨ when u get this you have to put 5 songs you actually listen to, publish. then, send this ask/tag 10 of your favorite followers (non-negotiable, positivity is cool)✨🎶
OOooooo, I like this ask.
Okay, my music taste is very large so there will be a little bit of everything on here. I don't really have only five songs I listen to, my stuff mostly remains on shuffle and I enjoy all of it depending on my mood and activity. So, instead of five songs, you will get my top 5 genres.
1: My go to music is my emo hard rock: Breaking Benjamin, any and all of their songs-Hopeless is my absolute favorite song out of anything I listen to, the lyrics express my battle with my depression; Seether; Three Days Grace; Bad Omens; Dayseeker; Ice Nine Kills; i Prevail
2: My broadway/musical obsessions: Phantom of the Opera-All I Ask of You, Masquerade, and The Point of No Return; Miss Saigon-The Movie in My Mind, Last Night of The World, The Wedding Ceremony, I'd Give My Life For You, and Now That I've Seen Her; The entirety of Wicked; Rogers and Hammerstein's Cinderella; Les Miserables
3: My love of love songs: Any 80's and 90's hair band slow jams, Chicago-pretty much every song; Journey; Peter Cetera; Steve Perry-no specific song for any of these, I can listen to all of them
4: 90's/2000's Hip Hop/R & B - The OG's of course-Tupac-All Eyez on Me is my favorite album; Biggie-Juicy, Big Pappa; Blackstreet-Don't Leave Me, No Diggity; Anything by Aaliyah; Anything by Alicia Keys; Usher of course; NWA; Common; Mos Def; Neo
5: Classical Music: This helps me relax, sometimes it helps me write-I love dark classical music-Chopin; Rachmaninoff; Mahler; Haydn
No pressure tags: @ronearoundblindly @darsynia @joannaliceevans-fanficblog @royalwritersoftheuniverses @jtargaryen18 and anyone else who would like to join!

Revisiting a Legend
Tupac Shakur. I could really stop it at that, no need for introduction. But, for the sake of formalities, I wont. Tupac is the most celebrated MC in the culture, a man people still hail as hip-hops visionary, messiah, legend, or god even. Why? It’s because of what he stood for and how he represented his community. With all this notoriety one would think he was on the scene for YEARS but no, he was only out for about 5 before his untimely death. Although a full discography review would do better justice in really showing who Tupac was, for now I’ll settle for a few songs from his album before his death: All Eyez On Me.
Before getting into the songs lets first start with the album itself.  All Eyez on Me was the first album of its time to be released as a hip-hop double disk. Back then, this was unseen but after Pac others started following the blueprint. Not only that but this album became certified diamond when it broke records selling 10 million copies in the US. Why does this matter? It just goes to show how much work Pac put into his art, not many people can release 6 more albums after death. But Pac didn’t just put the work in for himself, he also did it for his people. In his 1994 MTV interview he gives a palatable analogy as to why his community is so angry and why it’s justified, he says,
“we was ASKING 10 years ago. We was ASKING with the Panthers, we was ASKING with them, you know, with the civil rights movement. We was asking. Now these people who were asking are all dead and in jail, now what do you think we’re going to do? ASK??… And we shouldn’t be angry? And my raps that I’m rapping to my community shouldn’t be filled with rage?”
In most, if not all, Pac’s interviews he talks about needing to rap about the suffering and injustices his people face because if not him then who? Not the media, not the schools, not government, so it had to be him. I could really go on and on, quoting interviews, movies, songs etc., etc. but lemme move on.
 “Only God Can Judge Me”
This one is a personal favorite. From start to finish Pac has amazing bars that lament about the struggles of living in the gutter, the lies of the media, and the mental struggles of it all. This whole song could honestly be dissected line for line but I’ll stick with a few.
“And all my memories, of seein' brothers bleed
And everybody grieves, but still nobody sees
Recollect your thoughts don't get caught up in the mix
'Cause the media is full of dirty tricks”
Although not as descriptive or ‘vulgar’ as some other lines Pac has used they still say a lot. To put it simply, what’s being described is the horror and trauma his community faces and despite it all they’re repeatedly ignored and looked over. But, when talked about (or rapped about) the media paints him, or any other speaker, as the aggressor, the instigator, or the evil. Throughout the song he mentions thoughts of death and suicidal / dangerous actions that are brought about because of the pain and the struggle people have to endure just to live. At the end of the day people are just doing what they gotta do to just stay alive and keep themselves and their families fed. So, no, no one can judge what they’ve done except for God.
“Heartz Of Men” & “All Eyez on Me”
This album has a lot of feel good, ‘Thug Life,’ music. This doesn’t change the integrity of Pac though. To start, Pac’s definition of a thug is not the textbook, he means the underdog, the beaten, the abused. Songs like Heartz of Men and All Eyez on Me still describe a lot about his struggles, just more personal. Throughout both songs he talks about being back stabbed by friends and having people after him, but still getting back up to keep doing what he’s doing. Particularly in All Eyez on Me the title alone describes his ongoing struggle of not wanting to be forgotten. And just like his other songs that showcase his lyrical prowess these songs are no different. Many people are put off by rap music because of the ‘vulgarity’ or it’s claimed to condone gang life but, although this might be true in some cases, in many cases, especially Tupac’s case, it’s just describing what really goes down, what people really experience. In a 1994 interview with Ed Gordon Pac describes living,
“We all living in a war zone. It’s not as easy as people are making us think… it’s not like that. We live in hell, we live in the gutter… by the time you get out your house you strapped up to protect yourself cause’ you living in the same community the police is carrying rifles and riot gear.”
In another interview, 1995 MTV News, he describes wanting to finish school and wanting to go to college but just like so many kids he was unable to. He describes having to work to feed himself, his mother’s drug addiction at the time, and his house not having any light as factors. So even though it may be fair to say that rap is too aggressive or vulgar it’s not a true understanding of what the genre is. If just hearing about the struggle is too much just imagine being cursed with it.
2Pac’s Legacy
Just describing these few things truly doesn’t do enough justice. Some other honorable mentions are Do For Love, Keep Ya Head Up, Ghetto Gospel, and Dear Mama. Tupac is emotional, and I don’t mean that negatively. His raw emotion, his big mouth, his willingness to speak his heart, and the obligation he feels towards his community is really what makes him so beloved. Aside from his music, this is what makes him a legend. In all his interviews he connects to and speaks for his people, they never leave his mind. In the 1994 BET interview he says he speaks for the youth, all youth. Going back to his 1994 MTV interview he says
“All the society is doing is leeching off the ghetto. They use the ghetto for their pain, for their sorrow, for their culture, for their music, for their happiness, for their movies… I don’t wanna be another 50 years old at a BET ‘we shall over come’ achievement awards… I want when they see me they know that everyday when I’m breathing it’s for us to go farther.”
He says “us.” He keeps the same energy for the poor. Theres so many clips out there with pac asking how can you make millions and be okay with people living on the streets? It’s clear to see just how and why Tupac really changed a community.
Even today rappers still go back to him, the blue print. Kendrick saying that he’s continuing the legacy and even dreaming about him. ASAP Rocky admitting that he’s still a fan and is still moved by his work. And many, many, many more. It’s sad to hear that the youth doesn’t fully remember and acknowledge his legacy and although I understand his music isn’t this generations taste or some just might not care, his influence on the genre and on his people is undeniable. Many forget Tupac was a just a boy, only 25 when he died, but even in such a short amount of time he’s made more than a generations worth of impact.
“I’m not saying I’m gonna rule the world or in gonna change the world but I guarantee that I will spark the brain that will change the world”

Why Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has shaken everybody to their core?
!! Contains spoilers for the entirety of the Netflix show Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.!!
Tumblr media
-- David and Lucy sharing a moment together. source: netflixlife.com --
The misadventures of David Martinez has taken the world by storm - the currently one season series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has already joined the likes of Queen’s Gambit and Squid Game in terms of hype. Not only the show internationally started to trend short after its introduction, it even revived the game that the show is based on, which was considered one of the greatest launch failures of video games. From people trying builds in the game from the show to rampant memeing, what is the reason that this show affected all of us? Let’s see...
Tumblr media
-- Everybody’s thought after watching the show. source: 9gag.com --
In his review of the movie The Social Network, The Royal Ocean Film Society talks about why this movie feels very relevant as it felt in 2010, transcending even its source material, Facebook. He states the reason as “Ultimately, it’s not a movie about technology. It’s Shakespeare, it’s Greek Tragedy, it’s the American Dream. Stories as old as time itself”.
Sophocles, one of the greatest Greek tragedians, lived in 4th century BC. His famous work, Oedipus Rex, follows the tragic hero Oedipus (the same character used as the Oedipus Complex by Sigmund Freud). He is the king of Thebes, which is ravaged by a plague because the killer of the previous king was not identified, neither was brought to justice.
Oedipus, who claimed the vacant king seat and married his widowed queen by merit years ago, swears to find the killer - “I will do everything to find his killers, as if he was my own father”. His investigation first brings him forth as the prime suspect, then reveals that he is not the children of who he thought, and finally it concludes with the most damning information of all: he killed his father and laid with her mother. Just as prophesized.
Tumblr media
-- Bénigne Gagneraux: The Blind Oedipus Commending his Children to the Gods. source: wikipedia.org --
I didn’t watch Oedipus Rex on stage and I can only imagine what the original audience thought when they saw it on the amphitheater for the first time. How it felt to the audience when a prophet accuses Oedipus for the murder of the king; when Oedipus feels relieved to learn that his (supposed) father passed away, so he couldn’t fulfill the cursed prophecy; when it’s revealed that he’s not the son of that guy or when the queen figures out that the prophecy was actually fulfilled. From the first act, they probably understood that this story will not end well, they are just accompanying this character to his end. Every detail, every revelation must have felt like there’s something you don’t know, that you can only see out of the corner of your eyes - but it is coming. This, I cannot know for sure, again, I didn’t watch Oedipus Rex on a Greek amphitheater. But... I did watch Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
What’s the first thing you see? David Martinez, our tragic teenage hero, experiencing the death (through braindance) of a guy who is the original owner of the implant that he will get to own. Hints are constantly dropped. First, they are more subtle like this. Comments about how David should be careful using that implant, which comes to define him, otherwise he would turn psycho, etc etc. All of this is met by a quirky “I’m special, don’t worry”. Then, the dark signs become a bit harder to ignore.
Tumblr media
-- David Martinez: The Tragic Hero. source: gamerant.com --
Episode 5 “All Eyez on Me” is an interesting one. Turn of events brings David’s gang in conflict with a guy called Jimmy Kurosaki, who also happens to be the favorite braindance director of David. Fortunately, they manage to convince him to set a trap to unsuspecting Tanaka, their target. This is like a idol-fan reunion, the whole episode has a lighthearted fun feel. Fortunately, however, is not a word to describe this story. A needle to the throat, Kurosaki breaths his last, as his eyes rest on David & David’s on his.
The parallels do not end there. The inglorious deaths of several gang members: as frightening as it gets when a homeless psycho headshots Becca’s brother, becomes an insignificant occurrence when the new recruit is blown to pieces. But the biggest parallel is of course, how Maine reaches his end. In a half conscious-half unconscious manner, he kills everybody that stands in his way, then what is most valuable to him, and finally; himself. Maine: the leader of the gang, which David replaces.
Tumblr media
-- End of the line for Maine, but not for David. Not yet. source: youtube.com --
It was clear from the beginning that this story won’t have a happy ending. We have a limited time with David: a very short lifetime we’re accompanying him. But that’s not all - David’s tragedy has a second layer. When Oedipus was born, his fate was already sealed. When David’s mother dies, we learn that she was working around the clock and sometimes on the edge of legality - so that his son doesn’t have to. Consequently, the only thing she can leave David is a neural enhancement implant, which, can only be used illegally. This, like Oedipus, seals David’s fate. And it’s all more damning to see David come to die at top of the Arasaka tower: the exact place her mother would dream for him (to work). It is much more damning to see him say “look mom, I am here, the very top of Arasaka tower”. This is him at the point where Oedipus realized that he fulfilled the prophecy: the point of no return.
Tumblr media
-- David at the point of no return. source: youtube.com --
I can’t remember where I read it, but there, it referred soap operas as modern tragedies. Well, let’s say I’m not a huge fan of soap operas. So, I’m eternally grateful to Studio Trigger for this modern tragedy that shook me to my core: one with amazing atmosphere, soundtrack and memorable characters. What is very exciting is that David’s story feels like one of many happening in the Cyberpunk Universe. As we’re done with his one, I hope we’ll start with another, soon enough...

Why cant the most prolific artists be represented appropriately in film?
Why can’t the most prolific artists be represented appropriately in film? As money hungry as studios are, we haven’t seen a movie about any of the 60s greats. But also, what got me thinking about this, was I saw “all eyez on me”, and the poor kid was just not up to it. Remembering that actors are performers first and foremost, how could we possibly find the one that can “play the part” in the case of all of these mammoth characters? In the case of Tupac, it’s more than just replicating singing and reciting lyrics. But then, why should we expect society could reproduce his creative energy, personality and essence? It couldn’t. He was a truly singular being, molded from his upbringing and circumstances, “the last of the g’s”. A unique poet, fiery, his ability demonstrated in every song where he just let loose a steady stream of freethinking and visionary lyrics - his tenacious firebrand intimidating to so many who came in contact. So why did we think this poor kid could do it?Joaquin phoenix was no different - he did an excellent job - but it’s easier to portray single rockers then capture the essence of a band. Even the excellent bohemian rhapsody truly focused on its lead, although the parts were played exceedingly well. I am curious to see what happens with this new Bob Dylan biopic. Generally I love these “music movies”. But again, these are all single focuses (not all done successfully). I just picture the studio bosses salivating at lucrative openings but being unable to fathom how to put together the same energy as led zeppelin in 1967 with Bradley cooper and Leo dicap. LOL. Who would play Peter Grant? Studios could never reproduce these bands, and that’s kind of the point. And that’s why we haven’t seen it Submitted June 06, 2024 at 03:28AM by beatlesatmidnight86 https://ift.tt/CyPtjn9 via /r/Music

okay I was just thinking about it in the shower, and the uncanny valley of fame I was talking about earlier this week has overlap with supareality. something like no tears left to cry doesn't because it achieves it's alien-ness unintentionally, by striving for it's complete integration, the little ways it's simulation is revealed set it apart from songs that are fully integrated to the top 40 charts (ironically making it interesting enough to remember when it was vying for a spot that would require from it total forgetability). but songs that intentionally went for their uncanny valley effect often have to create their supareality to do so. the supareality is the song within another world; something that doesn't acknowledge it's universe because it so presupposed (the way a reality is), but skillfully embodies it and pulls you into it so you feel distinctly in a veil within in a veil; you're pulled into a reality that you stop seeing as fiction or affected, in this way it's that idiohistory you embody in dreams where you, for the duration of the dream, understand your dream reality; when you "wake" back into the world outside the song, you're back within your regular reality, which is already it's own veil. some of the uncanny valley of fame songs draw specific attention to the fact they're simulation, so that's not crossover. but in some, the ways they operate at simulation becomes so cognizant that they come right back around: supareality. so far the supareality songs I've compiled:
Never Lose Me - Flo Milli Moonlight - Kali Uchis Hi-Fidelity - Lava La Rue Is It a Crime? - SADE I Feel Love - Donna Summer Sweet Dreams - Eurythmics Careless Whisper - George Michael All Eyez On Me - Tupac Movies - Ashanti Star Witness - Neko Case PRIDE. - Kendrick Lamar Come Together - The Beatles Venice Bitch - Lana Del Rey

The Tupac movie, "All Eyez On Me," is on TV today.
Currently getting reacclamated to the cause. My mission. My purpose.
#shouts! to the influences.
Might throw on that Huey P. Newton one-man-show and revisit/reread a couple passages from "Revolutionary Suicide," as well.
#coolin 😎

VLONE Clothing Collaborations with Nike and Off-White
Tumblr media
Vlone eventually went international and branched out into fashion design and pop-up stores as A$AP Bari went on a global tour to promote his vlone hoodie project. Pop-up stores were launched in Texas, New Orleans, Tokyo, and many other locations.
Vlone also partnered up with Off-White and Nike in 2017. This was a significant milestone towards Vlone’s success. The Vlone and Off-White Collection includes Vlone orange-and-black suits, track pants, and long-sleeved pullovers designed with the brand’s signature black and orange color combination.
Having originated in Harlem, New York, Vlone thought it prudent to design its own version of the Air Force 1 sneaker. The introduction of Nike and Vlone Air Force 1 happened in Harlem in February 2017, during one of the pop-up events at New York Fashion Week.
This event happened right up the street where the A$AP MOB grew up. Vlone came up with several variations of the footwear. One was a black-and-white high top, while another was a black-and-orange low top. The inspiration came from the New York Knicks’ black and orange color combination, which is the trademark look of the Knicks’ shoe. Both sneakers are engraved with the Vlone brand message.
At the same event, Vlone and Off-White introduced bright camo, hoodies, and sweatpants with the Vlone symbol visible and t-shirts or shirts with the word “FRIENDS” written in orange across the front. The Vlone and Off-White line was officially launched at the event.
Shortly after collaborating with Nike and Off-White, Vlone Clothing proceeded to do another extremely iconic thing by paying tribute to Tupac Shakur, the deceased American legendary hip hop artist.
In April 2017, A$AP Bari partnered up with Bravado, the world’s leading branding, consumer, and lifestyle services provider. Vlone launched a limited-edition range honoring the life and legacy of Tupac Shakur. They timed this perfectly by launching the collection ahead of one of that summer’s most anticipated movies, “All Eyez On Me.”
To mark the line’s launch, Vlone, in conjunction with Bravado, gave customers the ultimate Tupac experience by opening a special pop-up store in the lower east side of New York City. From April 7 to April 9, the Vlone Tupac pop-up store opened its doors to the public.
The collection introduced 18 pieces created by A$AP Bari, the creative director of Vlone. This consisted of a wide variety of graphic t-shirts, hoodies, hats, as well as bathrobes. The pieces were available in three main colors orange, black, and red, and each one featured the Vlone trademark “V” symbol throughout the whole spread of clothing.
