Absolutely not moving on from the fact that erasing Dylan's memory was shown as a positive answer. Like it's just insane?????? and the fact that it works (for a while) too???????? Like Amari just decides "lets erase his trauma and everything that makes him evil in order to save him" It's such an interesting position to put a good person in. "Do I erase all the bad memories of a villian if it makes them good again"

Dylan Van Helsing is the main reason i love the Amari series so much better than Harry Potter. He is basically Draco Malfoy without being poorly written.

Ramona Quimby:

Ramona is a perfect example of how specificity makes a character feel all the more universal. She's such an everykid and she's utterly unique. She named her doll Chevrolet just because it sounded pretty. She fainted at school when she refused to take off her extra cozy pajamas so just put her clothes right on top, because that's what firefighters do so how can it be wrong. She hatched an elaborate plan to get her dad to quit smoking-- she cares about him very much and did her best to help him through a rough time of his own. She squeezed out an entire brand new tube of toothpaste because who wouldn't want to at least try that. She invented a game called Brick Factory which is basically just banging bricks togethed until they break. She has an extreme, uncontrollable compulsion to pull a classmate's curls and say "BOING!" Honestly I don't know when to stop here.

one time she cracked a raw egg on her head because of a boiled egg fad. unless that was a different book. she likes cars and she is awesome.

She's just a normal kid, but her books were great at dealing with social issues from a growing girl's point of view for kids of the time. They're definitely dated and quaint by now but she's still a charming character and a local icon here in Portland, OR, where the books were set.

Ramona is peak little girl energy. She's weird and full of chaos, big emotion and wanting to do things now instead of waiting for things to happen. Ramona is also one of the best examples of being a little sibling, being annoying and impulsive and causing problems but mostly not on purpose. I used to be obsessed with these books when I was little.

Amari Peters:

She's brave and smart and the story starts because she wants to protect her older brother. Also, #BlackGirlMagic but like actual magic

The book: The second title in B.B. Alston's Supernatural Investigations series, Amari and the Great Game. This was So. Much. Fun. I know I'm way too old for this series but it doesn't matter. I don't know how many books Alston has planned, but it feels like reading Harry Potter all over again, minus the antisemitic tropes and racist names and, well, the author turning out to be openly and passionately transphobic. The first book got me interested in this world and the second made me want to lose myself in it for a time. And I love Amari as a brilliant, powerful protagonist who is also just a tween girl. I also really enjoy the strong bonds the characters share without the author pushing sex and romance onto them and just allowing them to be kids. But of course in the tradition of these kinds of fantasies, they are kids who are accomplishing what the adults around them cannot. Can't wait for book three.

In case some people do not not about it but B.B. Alston is gonna anounced a graphic novel about Amari soon (He hope so at least) He is waiting for the OK from his publisher. Also he said two years ago that he also have interest in new stories for Amari to make as graphic novels.
