At this point, I'm utterly convinced that Vivziepop played Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs and based Sir Pentious off Oswald Mandus.
Intellectual inventor with (possible) autism who lived in 19th century London and had an obsession with eggs?
It basically writes itself.
Oswald even referred to himself as a "snake" at one point in the game. And let's not forget that Angel Dust referred to him as "Daddy" in the pilot -- much like one of Oswald's children would. And Sir Pentious reacted as such.

Alexander is Oswald's Great Uncle.
Seeing some confusion in the Amnesia tags again about this so reminder that it is without a doubt for sure that Alexander is the Great Uncle to Oswald Mandus.
The note in AMFP dated April 30th, 1899 has a few sentences and phrases to take note of here.
"What he is I cannot tell, but I smell the Orb upon him, and suspect my great uncle's presence in his curious condition."
Oswald clearly received a Grunt from Brennenburg in this crate, and feels not only the Orb's presence in this body, but his great uncle's. Why would Daniel's presence be involved in the Grunts' bodies, when it was Alexander that created them?
"We can reshape the body into a tool, accelerate the processes of Mr Darwin's evolution. But here my great uncle and I part company. He chose men as the subjects of his experiments, but men are difficult to control and rotten with sentimentality."
Again, Alexander was the one who had subjects for experiments, not Daniel. Daniel merely helped in torture.
Furthermore, the song Dieses Herz being found in Oswald's mansion is a song that is entirely in German! Oswald might be living in London, but it's clear that his lineage did not originate in England.
And last but not least, there is cut content in the form of a note that says this:
"Of the few books to survive after those degenerate peasants fired my Great Uncle's castle were his travel diaries."
Who owned a castle? Alexander.

The wrestling match between my best intentions and attempts to keep myself grounded and the way my internal monologue sounds like the apocalyptic end speech from Amnesia: a Machine for Pigs more and more every day
youtube
The game received mixed reviews but the sheer audacity of giving an elite pre-ww1 guy a vision of the 20th century - the "angel of history" view if you will - including the death of his boys at the Somme and then what he does with that? Chef kiss Horror concept

I know this is not a popular take but I fucking love Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs and I hate that it's constantly compared to a game that it isn't and was never going to be. I want so many more of those types of narrative experiences.

After a short break, I take up "hehe-haha" again :D
(we will close our eyes to game conventions and assume that this is happening somewhere in modern times)
*Oswald and Tasi after another night, well, you understand))*
Tasi: Are you sure you're okay?
Oswald: Why should something be wrong?
Tasi: Your fitness bracelet beeped several times..
Oswald: Oh.. we-ell..
Oswald: *checks the bracelet* Apparently I just finished a "hard workout" twice)))
(I'm both ashamed of this joke and not :'D)

AMFP/Berserk Crossover AU Concept
So I may be in the process of making a crossover AU between Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs and Berserk now.
And this AU was prompted by the simple fact that Oswald Mandus would be the perfect candidate to become an Apostle according to Berserk lore. He fits all the requirements to become an Apostle!
Apostles are the term used (in Berserk lore) for a human who has willingly given up their humanity in order to become a demon.
It is noted that basically ALL Apostles went down this specific path because they suffered so much (as a human) that they felt the only option that would rid themself of their personal suffering... was to rid themself of their humanity.
Here are the main "requirements" to becoming an Apostle:
>A human sacrifice must be made; a sacrifice of blood and flesh. The human sacrifice in question must be someone who is near and dear to the future Apostle. They must love and cherish this person so the act of sacrificing this person... is akin to abandoning part of their soul. Make note that an Apostle will typically sacrifice one (or) two people in one single act.
>A "wish" or "personal desire" must be made during the process. Apostles can take on demonic forms that are far removed from their humanoid forms. These demon forms will reflect both their personalities, ego, and whatever they desired upon that moment of the first transformation. The Apostle's demon form will often take on the appearance of some type of animal in nature-- but the form will be twisted beyond recognition.
>They are an outcast in society (or) are deemed as eccentric. As a human, the future Apostle will typically find that they "never fit into society" and this can be considered the start to their personal suffering. Depending on the events that happen during the course of their life, they will turn their back on society and, ultimately, forgo their humanity to ascend past their original forms.
Fans of Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs... will automatically know why all these specific requirements fit Oswald. He fulfilled them all during the course of the game!
Now comes the fun part of noting that while Oswald may not have turned into a demon or anything during the course of the game... he already had plenty of Apostle traits.
He had a heavy association with pigs. Like that's basically the point of the game... Its in the title.
He had supernatural abilities -- like being able to see the future.
He would turn people into manpigs -- which is pretty ironic given that Apostles (sometimes) have the ability to make pseudo-Apostles. These pseudo-Apostles are normal humans who have been forced against their own willpower to become a demon. The pseudo-Apostles will often have an appearance that resembles the original demonic form of the Apostle that transformed them.
So yeah,,,, in conclusion, Oswald would be an Apostle. And I don't think I need to bring up the final reason but--
Tumblr media
Giving up one's own humanity is a central theme of the game...
Expect me to design Oswald's demonic pig form very soon!

One thing that Amnesia Rebirth+AMFP+The Bunker and Penumbra all did better than TDD...IMO was the portrayal of humanity ingrained within the level design and how lonely it makes the player feel in contrast. TDD was an incredible level design, it just didn't feature many mundane little things indicative of human activity beside your own, like scattered drawings from Tasi, shrines, capsules of fond memories of victims, the rabbit in the bunker, the narrator lady in penumbra orchestrating daily life in the shelter, Mandus' kids stuff strewn about. Brennenburg is lacking in these little things

I gotta say, I'm surprised I haven't seen this iteration of Samuel Johnson's quote before. Like, I first saw this quote from a Guitar Hero song (Bat Country), and then again from the horror game, Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs.
