“ Are you sure about  this Carol. “ Lyla looked looked at The bespectacled girl in concern she had never been in Wanou Dorm  before though she had heard rumors about its Leader appearing seemingly out nowhere something that should be impossible with how large he was said to be.
“ Relax , Lyla It’s not like Wanou’s Dorm leader, is a Bad guy , I heard they’re usally In charge of Event planning and like throwing Parties at thier Dorm. “
The Violet haired man Said with his hands behind his Head.Leroy was secretly Excited to  see what Wanou looked like as they entered the mirror they were hit with robust Red of the various Maple trees that were Scattered throughout the Dorm and As will as what the Dorm building was a large white  castle with curved pagoda not unlike the Castles seen in Onigashima. Leroy was Absolutely stunned this looks like a Scene for a samurai Anime down to the Students Raking up the Leaves and tending to the Various gardens . Carol and Lyla  looked at Leroy’s Slackjawed expression  and Chuckled a bit before Carol  touched his Shoulder as Leroy shook his  head
“ You must’ve been Awe’d By the Beauty of this Place .”  Carol looked At Leroy
“ Of Course , Look at how cool this Place  is.” Leroy  said Containing his Excitement  as his Tail Coiled up  tighter .
“ But How are we gonna find Shu here? “ Lyla said looking at how Big the Place was and Noticing the Bevy  of Yokai Students they seemed similar to Monsters but seemed Stranger than Monsters  .
“ I wouldn’t  say you’d Have to look for me if you’d Just Turn Around..”
The Three jumped abit before Turning around  to See a  purple Mist converging before a Tall, Rather Muscular , Liliac  skinned figure was formed .
“ Were you Following us this Whole time? “ Carol said
“ Only when I saw you Goin’ into the Mirror, I’m not a Stalker .~ “  Shu smiled “ So  what do you want ?”
“ Well we were Thinking about heading to a Sushi place .” Carol said as Shu’s Demenor completely Changed  for a Mysterious encounter  to  a More Childlike Reaction,
“ .. You inviting me  to a sushi place, of course I’ll come .” Shu’s Voice went up a couple pitches  before Dropping down  “ As long as Oonazuchi doesn’t  Disappear    .” Shu said pointing towards  Leroy
“ … Oonna what now “
“ Or Would you Rather me Call you Uparupa~. “
“ .. That Means”
“ Its a Term used to refer to Axolotl in Onigashima, you know the cute pink lizard things.“
“ No”
“ that dose sound kinda cute.” Lyla said
“ Please, Don’t start callin Me that.”   Leroy insisted
“ But anyways I’d be Happy to Join you all for Sushi , I hope they have , spicy Crab rolls” Shu rubbed the back of his head “Having to look and Proofread over Henry’s Homework weirdly give me an Appetite for it.”j
— also the Uparupa thing is true here’s a Holo live clip——-

I'm not sure if even possible, but have there been cases of Albino and/or Melanistic Chameleos? If so, do they retain their colour changing or are they only one colour?
Weiss - Albino Chameleos Report 1
Albino or Piebald Chameleos are horrifically rare but they have occured naturally. Their numbers are in single digits however for a couple reasons.
It's rare for them to reach adulthood because when their chromatophores do anything, it comes up pale pink, pink, pale brown, pale grey sometimes even orange.
Not exactly helpful for a creature thats main trait is meant to be perfect camoflage.
How a specimen ever reaches adulthood is wildly up for debate given the existance of poachers, competing elder dragons, wyverns and opportunistic fanged beasts that find a small stubby baby chameleos to be an easy target.
There's also physical drawbacks such as sunlight sensitivity and poor eyesight, not exactly good for a tropical loving elder dragon that uses precision with its long tongue to catch prey.
Given what we know about Chameleos parenting; it could simply be a case of the parent keeping the whelps protected until they're just physically too large for most other creatures to eat or fight. This is a species known for taking remarkably good care of its young.
The most well known specimen of a fully albino Chameleos is called "Weiss". This elder dragon makes its home on coastal cliff faces that match its pale pigmentation overlooking vast valleys of flowers. Whilst I can't say "where" for fear of poachers, it's quite a sight to behold.
"Weiss" obviously understands its limitations and where it's best to hunt. It's usual diet consisting of small bird wyverns, piscine wyverns, and the more typical insects and carapaceons. Unlike other Chameleos however; this one's taken up a special and unusual hobby.
Swimming.
Chameleos can swim - but it's seen more as an extreme evasive maneuver for when their life is in danger: they will not swim under any other circumstances.
The fact "Weiss" has taken to it means that it has a keen sense of intellect.
Why?
Because most if not all active predatory sea creatures have a pale belly to ambush their prey. The prey looks up and sees a pale colour that matches the water above and is no wiser to the danger.
This means two things:
1. Weiss not only understands its limitations; but actually uses them as a boon. That is extremely uncommon for a monster let alone an Elder Dragon.
2. A known ambush predator learnt to be an active predator with devastating effectiveness.

Platonic kyle with a rider that comes from a family that rides elder dragons, and the two go in a mission to eliminate a rampaginf ranjang and the readers velkana (iceborne elder dragon) unleashes its kinship strike for the first time.
Awesome!! (also sidenote, I would love to have lunastra or chameoleos as a monstie)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Rider of Elders
Kyle feels honored to be able to go on a quest with you, where he witnesses something spectacular.
Tumblr media
“Good luck guys!” Your father, atop his teostra, shouted and waved as you and Kyle departed. As you, Kyle, and your newly hatched velkhana, M/N, left the gorgeous mountain village in search of the monster causing trouble.
A bit of background information; you come from a family of riders that rides elder dragons. Your dad is the one who is in charge, and he rides a teostra while your mother rides a lunastra. You’ve been in training to receive an elder dragon of your own, and just recently you’ve hatched a velkhana named M/N. A couple weeks after the two of you began your training, you met Kyle and a few other hunters. The Guild sent them over to help with a local monster problem, per your dad’s request, so your father considered you two fit enough for the job.
“Do we know what kind of monster we’re dealing with?” The hunter asked as you two walked side by side through the forest.
“My brother was supposed to figure that out.” You stated with a frown. Just as you said this, you were knocked on your feet by an invisible force. Kyle readied his bow, but you told him to wait.
“There you are!” You stated in an exasperated tone as your brother appeared on the back of his chameleos monstie.
“Thought I’d have a little fun before giving you some bad news.” He said while patting his elder dragon’s head.
“What would that be?” Kyle said with a slight sigh. It’s always something with him.
“There’s a rajang that’s been causing a ruckus. Even our riders can’t push it away.” Your brother explained as you and Kyle exchanged looks.
“So, why did dad send us then?” You questioned and your older brother shrugged before returning to the village to update everyone. Kyle finally found the time to complain.
“Great. A rajang. The ultra-aggressive fanged beast.” He practically facepalmed as he bit back a growl.
“Don’t worry Kyle! We got this! After all, we’ve been training together since you got here.” You told him with a confident smile. Your monstie chirped in agreement. Kyle resisted the urge to row his eyes. A young hunter with a rider and their newly hatched monstie against one of the most dangerous beasts?
He should send a letter to his family to start planning his funeral.
You guys continued to walk in silence. No sounds except the occasional leaf rustle and slight breeze to stir the world. It was almost uncomfortable for it to be this silent and know that there was a rampaging rajang around. Suddenly, your velkhana growled and the temperature around her began to plummet. Both of you turned to look at her, and before you could say anything, your monstie pounced on the both of you to shield you from an incoming boulder.
“Woah! Where did that come from!?” You shouted as M/N let you guys up. Kyle narrowed his eyes and grabbed his bow as a roar that sent chills down his spine shook the earth. The rajang, bearing its golden pelt, leapt from the shadows, fists first. You and Kyle barely managed to dodge as it crumbled the ground between you two to dust. With an angry snarl, the rajang got to its feet and pounded its fists in the ground as a show of primal strength.
“Ready?” Kyle asked with determination, fingers clutched tightly around his weapon. You, however, suddenly looked a lot more scared than you were earlier as you mounted your velkhana, who hissed at the fanged beast.
“As I’ll ever be.” You replied in a shaky tone, hands tightly gripping the saddle. Kyle eyed you with worry. He hoped that your fears didn’t get yourself killed. The rajang was tired of the stalling and readied a lightning blast that fired at the speed of light. M/N fired back her own breath attack and they collided into smoke. Kyle took this opportunity to fire some arrows into the cloud.
The rajang, however, was not there. As quick as the attacks came, they vanished.
“Where...” Kyle trailed off as you flew into the skies to get a better look. Your eyes scanned through the trees, but you caught no sight of the monster. Kyle didn’t see anything either, but he felt the hair on the back of his neck stand up. Like static electricity.
In what felt like slow motion, the rajang leapt from the shrubbery with its maw gaping and hands outstretched, ready to grab him. He widened his eyes, unable to do anything as he accepted his fate.
“No!” You shouted as you dove M/N down. You couldn’t see the determined look in your monstie’s face, but you could feel energy pulsating from your hand. Looking down, you saw your kinship stone glowing brightly.
“Really...” You breathed as your velkhana looked back at you with bright eyes. Suddenly, you were a lot more confident as well.
“Ok!” You rose your stone high in the air as M/N descended, her ice armor becoming more visible.
“Calamity Glacier!”
A powerful gust of wind knocked Kyle out of the rajang’s way, who was also shocked by the sudden cold air. The hunter glanced up to see frost covering all the trees, he could see his breath, and finally he could see you and M/N. Your velkhana was decked in her signature ice armor as she used her ice born powers to create an icy pillar that lifted the rajang into the air. Confused, the large ape roared and swung itself around.
With a roar of her own, M/N condensed the water particles in the air to create another icy pillar above the fanged beast. With no way to escape, the rajang’s eyes locked onto you and it let out a fearsome roar.
The last thing that was heard before the ice chunks collided.
Kyle felt the temperature begin to increase as you landed beside him. The grin on your face was uncanny as you praised your velkhana.
“That was amazing M/N! Your first kinship attack!” You praised her and she beamed, nuzzling her icy head into you. Kyle felt that his jaw was still dropped, and he quickly fixed that while dusting the frost out of his blonde locks.
“That was...incredible.” He breathed while staring at your elder dragon. Kyle always knew that they were the most powerful species of wyvern but seeing such power here was breathtaking.
“Thanks. It was the first time she was ever able to do that.” You said with a smile, still petting your monstie.
“I guess your near-death experience really helped.” You said with a laugh. Kyle rolled his eyes and grumbled, “Glad I could be of service.”
“Well, let’s report back.” You said with a grin while skipping back to the direction of your home. With a shake of his head, Kyle followed. However, he didn’t know why he still felt uneasy. Your velkhana was certainly more powerful than the rajang, right?
Kyle quickly glanced over his shoulder to see that all was as it was. No monster in sight. You were still humming ahead of him, and M/N seemed fine. Slowly, he turned back around and continued to follow. I mean, the rajang was dead...
...wasn’t it?

The DR2 reacts to discovering that the island is filled with Monster Hunter megafauna (neopterons instead of bugs, Tetsucabras instead of frogs, Fanged Beasts instead of mammals, DEVILJHO, ecc and acc)
Tumblr media
Welp, they’re all fucking dead.
Thanks for the ask anon! I hope you enjoy!
Once everyone got in the park square, Monokuma sat there with a sword and shield as Usami put up her staff in response.
(Usami) “No no! You are very bad!-”
(Monokuma) “NOT NOW YOU PINK BUNNY RABBIT! Listen, as much as I would love to put you in a killing game, we got some serious CRAP WE’RE IN!”
(Hajime) “W-What is that?”
(Byakuya) “Is that a bear?”
(Fuyuhiko) “Looks like a fuckin stuffed animal to me…”
(Monokuma) “I’m not a toy! I’m Mono-GAH, THAT DOESN’T MATTER! LISTEN THIS PLACE IS FILLED WITH-”
ROAR
(Monokuma) “GOD HELP US.”
Monokuma threw away the sword and got a heavy machine gun out.
Tumblr media
“”S-STAY BACK! I’M WARNING YOU, YOU PICKLE-”
Tumblr media
The giant Pickle-Trex (Deviljho) came running out from the woods, and crunched Monokuma between it’s teeth.
After swinging it around like a chew toy (and also hearing Monokuma screaming all the while) It looked at the students before walking away like nothing happened.
(Ibuki) “I-IT ATE HIM! AND NOW, IT’S GONNA EAT US! OH MY GOOOOO-”
(Gundham) “WHAT DARK SPAWN WAS THAT?!”
(Nagito) “Who cares?! L-LETS RUN!”:
(Usami) “EVERYONE TO THE RESORT!”
After everyone ran to the resort, they all took a deep breath and looked at each other.
(Peko) “You said this island was deserted!”
(Usami) “It was! IT SHOULD BE! I-I don’t know what went wrong?!”
(Chiaki) “We should probably look around for what wildlife is here. We probably won’t be safe.”
(Sonia) “W-What makes you say that?”
(Chiaki) “Considering the fact there’s giant wasps floating near the food, I don’t think waiting here is an option.
Tumblr media
(Sonia Teruteru & Nekomaru) “AAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHH!”
(Mikan) “L-LOOKING AROUND THE ISLAND IT IS!”
Everyone ran out of the resort, and split up into different groups.
Ibuki Mikan Mahiru and Hiyoko                Location: Beach
(Hiyoko) “Ugh, why did we get paired with you?”
(Mikan) “I-I’m sorry!”
(Mahiru) “Tch, now’s not the time for that! We should be focused on what’s around us!”
(Ibuki) “Ibuki hears something from the waters!”
Everyone turned to the beach, and saw a giant fish creature walk out of it, staring at them.
Tumblr media
(Hiyoko) “Gross! It’s like some, fish-bat hybrid!”
(Ibuki) “Plesioth don’t like being called that, Hiyoko!”
(Mahiru) “Plesioth? Is that what its called?”
(Ibuki) “OH CRAP!”
Ibuki tried to run away and everyone turned back to the Plesioth, as it seemed to be doing something with its hips.
(Mahiru) “…What’s it doi-”
HIP CHECK!
With one swift motion, it successfully knocked all of them, and sent them flying into the air.
Tumblr media
They all landed onto the sand, unconscious…
Peko, Souda, Sonia, Gundham, Fuyuhiko, Akane, Nekomaru and Byakuya.
Location: Amusement Park
Everyone walked around cautiously, small knives at the ready, while Peko led everyone with her Bamboo sword.
(Souda) “T-This shit’s terrifying man!”
(Gundham) “Hah, Gundham Tanaka does not fear anything!”
(Fuyuhiko) “Keep it the fuck down! We don’t know what’s around here!”
(Akane) “Hah, I could use the challenge!”
(Nekomaru) “I mean, as much as I love a fight, these are deadly beasts! We can’t just go around-”
(Akane) “COME AT ME MONSTERS!”
As soon as she said it, a large shadow appeared from the castle entrance, and stared at them.
Tumblr media
(Akane) “…Uh, on second thought-”
(Byakuya) “I hope you die first.-”
Tumblr media
GRAAAAAAAH-
After a short spin, knocking away with several of them, it sharpened its tail and swung at the rest…
Hajime, Nagito, Chiaki, Teruteru        Location: Jabberwock Park
(Teruteru) “…Why are we back here?!”
(Hajime) “We gotta make sure this isn’t the spawn of them!…Or something.”
(Chiaki) “I got paintballs to mark them, so we can keep track of the monsters!”
(Teruteru) “I don’t think paintballs work that way, pretty lady…”
(Nagito) “Weird, why’d it get all smokEEEEEEEEEEEY….Uh guys…Sorry.”
(Hajime) “Huh? For what?”
(Nagito) “About my luck…”
They all turned around and saw what Nagito was pointing at.
Tumblr media
It stared at them, silently as the eyes darted rapidly and the tongue wrapped around itself.
(Teruteru) “.,..GAH-”
The Chameleos wrapped Teruteru around its tongue, and spat out poison, covering him entirely in purple acid, watching as Teruteru melt in front of them.
(Chiaki) sigh “Fucking newcomers ruining the game.”
Chiaki pulled out a massive staff from seemingly nowhere, along with a bug that shout out of her arm, and lodged itself onto the face of it.
(Nagito) “Wait, she had that the entire time!?”
(Hajime) “More importantly, what’s causing all these monsters to show up?!”
Outside the Neo-World Program
(Note: The 4 “Hunters” Are from THIS ask.)
4 hunters stood over the control panel, and looked extremely confused as to what they were doing.
Tumblr media
“I said don’t touch the fucking button, Hajime. And looked what happened. You unleashed the wrath of the old world monsters on them.”
Tumblr media
“Then why did the inhabitants of this area leave this out in the open?!”
Tumblr media
“Perhaps it had to do with the fact I knocked them out as soon as we got off the Felyne boat…”
Tumblr media
“Wha?! WHY DID YOU DO THAT?!”
[MH](Peko) “Well…I thought they were monsters. One looked exactly like Makoto.”
[MH](Makoto) “Yeah, I’ve been wondering about that myself. Hell, there’s one of Peko and Hajime too.”
[MH](Mukuro) “…What about me?”
Tumblr media
[Mukuro](Junko) “W-…WHY…ME?”
[MH](Makoto) “Beats me. What should we do about this, by the way?”
[MH](Peko) “…Call Sayaka and our Felynes to start the boat up.”
They all nodded and got the fuck out of dodge. When the future foundation members woke up, they were treated to the sight of everyone being torn apart by vicious video game monsters, except for Chiaki who was currently skinning a Chameleos with Hajime and Nagito on the ground in the background.

                                   Journal Entry: Mercy and Kindness
I’m writing this as I’m sitting in another Elder’s house: Chammy, a Chameleos who lives in the verdant hills. I must say, of all encounters I’ve had with other dragons, this guy has to be the most kind, going so far as to serve me sushi after inviting me to his own home. I don’t even remember the last time I’ve been given such hospitality by a what is technically considered a stranger! But can I even call him that? We did introduce ourselves already and I’ve already been invited to his house.
I have to wonder what I did to deserve this though...
On that note however, I do actually remember one other time when such an act of random kindness was given to me by a stranger and as it turns out, it was a hunter. Yes, THAT hunter; the one who spared my life.
Even to this day, I can’t understand why they decided to spare someone like me: a killer dragon who terrorized human and wyverian settlements and even wiped some off the face of the world. I still remember our battle too. At first I thought the battle was going in my favor with me landing hit after hit, wind blast after wind blast, and my barrier protecting me from the hunter and keeping them a certain distance.
However as time went on, the tide of battle began to shift as we started to exchange blows. I remember how much my head would hurt whenever they threw that ball that flashed brightly in front of my face. Can you imagine how annoying it is when you’re brought tumbling down to the ground  and a headache suddenly hits you like a Duramboros tail slam to the face and all the while only seeing white? Damn hunters and their tricks.
And that wasn’t even the worst part: I’ll never forget the fiery sting of the Gunlance they used against me. Paired with the explosions that came from that damned weapon and they managed to overwhelm me minutes later. Nevertheless, I refused to let myself be surpassed by a mere human so I kept fighting on until i became too weak to even stand. I glared at the hunter as they stepped toward me. They raised their weapon and I assumed that was the end of me....
But instead, they planted the tip of their weapon on the ground and put down a red pouch of some sort of powder inside. They called it an ‘ancient potion’ if I remember correctly. And then they spoke the words that I will never forget, even to this day:
“That was a great bout I hope to have one again’st you in the future. Hope to see you again one day”
I was so dumbfounded by what had happened. Hell, I’m still dumbfounded thinking about it today. Why did she think I was worthy of mercy? Why did she spare my life? What merit did I have that got me to that point? My body was way too weak to respond back to her, and by the time I got my hands on the ancient potion, the had left and they were nowhere to be seen...
Ah, perhaps if I find the hunter again, I’ll have to thank them properly someday.

Favorite Monster Hunter Monsters, Elder Dragon Edition
Alright, so here is the list of my favorite Elder Dragons. Once again, this is in no particular order.
Please keep in mind that Elder Dragons are usually hidden or story-based monsters. There are bound to be spoilers for these games due to the nature of these monsters. If that concerns you, best to skip this list.
Let’s get this show on the road!
Ceadeus
Tumblr media
As far as Elder Dragons go, let’s start with my first love. Ceadeus was my first Elder Dragon, before I even really understood the classification in reference to the series. He was epicly huge, really powerful, and honestly didn’t give a crap about me until I started being more than a mild annoyance to him and broke his beard. Fighting him was surprisingly fun for an underwater fight, albeit a bit frustrating at times, but I think it was the story aspect that really sold me on him. The beautiful music, the lead up to his fight (including the Lagiacrus fakeout), and the fact that this village’s future is riding on you at least driving this Ceadeus off, if not slaying it outright. It just made it feel ridiculously grand. The Goldbeard Ceadeus was kind of awesome too, but it didn’t have the same impact as fighting Ceadeus in the village quests did.
Oroshi Kirin
Tumblr media
When I try to figure out if I like a monster or not, it usually comes down to the fact that monsters both frustrate me and enthrall me. So in which ones does the second happen more than the first? Kirin and Oroshi Kirin ride that fine line where it was hard to say. Both are frustrating as all hell, but they are such amazing monsters that it’s hard to stay mad at them. Oroshi in particular has an awesome-looking coat and I’ve always been partial to ice elements in RPGs.
Kirin and Oroshi are fast and have really tough hides. They were the type of fights that made me glad I was a gunner mostly in MH4U, because bouncing is never a fun time. I sat back and let loose the pew pew right on that horn of his. To be honest, I initially kind of thought of Kirin as a joke. What is this tiny little horse monster gonna do to me, right? Theeen the carting began and I realized this horse got the title Elder Dragon for a reason. Despite the frustration though, I just felt more compelled to take him down.
Plus... I mean... you know... the armor?
Tumblr media
Yeah... >.>
Gogmazios
Tumblr media
Gog was our hidden Elder in MH4U. There wasn’t really a lot to him lore-wise, just a balls-hard fight. This is a monster covered in a very sticky, very flammable oil. So sticky, in fact, that this monster starts with a portable dragonator stuck in its back. If you can manage to dislodge it, you can use it against him in addition to the dragonator already in the arena.
Gog is surprisingly mobile for his size. Some of his movements remind me a little of Fatalis and he shares that annoyingly long tail trait. Gog fires explosive fire beams from his mouth that will burn you if you’re too close to the initial fire and, if you hang around the contact point too long, it will explode and send you flying with a ton of damage. He is also capable of flight, despite his size, and he occasionally goes into an enrage phase that involves him flying around the area firing his beam of death indiscriminately in every direction. If you can’t use the binders to bring him to the ground, you generally have to leave the battleground until he’s done rampaging.
My favorite part of him was mounting. I spent half my time in MH4U gunning and the other half with an insect glaive in my hand. And this guy was super easy to mount. It wasn’t uncommon to get a multiplayer room with at least two glaive users in the fight because most people knew that was his weak point. Mount him, bring him down, everyone does damage. Rinse and repeat. It turned a monster that was almost too hard to consider farming despite his amazing-looking weapons into a monster that was tough but fun.
Lunastra/Teostra
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, so, I’ve only fought a Teostra, but I just love how the Lunastra looks and I had to include her with her hubby at least for that and the fact that in their original game, they fought almost the same way.
I love this lion-like, chimera look to them. Lunastra’s coloration speaks to me more, but I do love Teostra’s firey appearance. They look very regal in how they hold themselves.
In fourth gen, they added blast to Teostra and it is both awesome and sucks. In combat, you can get blasted around a ton and you practically have to have an enrage timer handy in a browser to time when he’s going to do his supernova move, because if you’re in melee range when that goes off, it’s gonna hurt. His blast weapons are some of the best in the game though, so I got used to fighting him pretty quick since we farmed him for weapons a lot. They tend to have less top-end than, say, Brachy’s weapons, but they have such an obscene amount of blast on them that with a quick enough weapon and enough hunters, you can just kind of chain explode a monster and cause them to flinch their ass off.
Edit: As of Monster Hunter World, I have now fought a Lunastra. I still love her, but that first unlock quest... well... I could have gone without that entire experience. lol
Hallowed Jhen Mohran
Tumblr media
Jhen is yet another Elder that I fought early on and got that special sort of place in my heart. Monsters had always, until that point, been a toe-to-toe fight with the monster in question. Toe-to-claw? Anyway, it hadn’t even occurred to me that a monster this large could exist in this game. So when the villagers were like, “Hey, we wanna take on this monster, but we need to ready a ship to fight it with, can you get us some mats?” I was kind of perplexed but went with it anyway. The result was a ridiculously epic fight that involved firing cannons and ballista at a giant sand whale, climbing on his back to break parts of his spines, and a showdown with the monster creeping ever closer to the boat with only me between them. Having the MH main theme kick in when you use the dragonator on him during the showdown was also an amazing touch. It makes you feel like “omg yes!! I can do this!! LET’S GO GENTS!!!” I didn’t always get all my carves, but it was a fun ride.
Hallowed Jhen was definitely tougher, but god he’s pretty. Jhen has just this sandy, rocky look to him that is cool, don’t get me wrong, but it’s not all that fancy either. Then out struts Hallowed Jhen in G Rank, looking like some swaggering geode that says “Yeah, just try it.” I didn’t fight him often other than when I specifically needed mats, mostly due to his difficulty and also due to the fact that the epicness of the fight sort of starts to wear on you when you have to do it over and over for certain parts, but it was definitely amazing when we did fight him.
Akantor
Tumblr media
Okay, first thing is first. Akantor is a Flying Wyvern. Yes, technically this monster isn’t an Elder Dragon. He USED to be classified as one, according to lore. You fight him alone in a volcano arena. He’s ridiculously powerful. His weapons are Elder Dragon levels of powerful. He’s an Elder Dragon, I don’t care what classifications say. :P
Akantor is like if you took a Tigrex and made him spiky and fire-based. He has most of Tigrex’s basic moveset when he moves and attacks. He has the added ability, though, to burrow into the ground and pop up elsewhere. Thankfully this is usually done rather slowly, so you aren’t likely to get too caught off guard unless you are just not paying attention. Which is bad news because if you’re not watching, you can end up with Akantor pulling himself out of the ground behind you and firing a beam that will absolutely devastate you. I guess I just have a thing sometimes for these big, slow, but intensely powerful monsters. He just looks like something you definitely don’t wanna mess with and, really, he isn’t. But he’s a fun fight. Certainly a lot more fun, imo, than his rival, Ukanlos. Shovelface can take a hike.
Alatreon
Tumblr media
Ugh, okay, it pains me to break combo like this. I’ve been using the backgroundless renders of all the monsters so far, but I couldn’t do it this time.  I couldn’t find a proper render of him that didn’t either make him look much darker than he actually is, or make him look like he came straight out of a “brown game”. Alatreon is a headache to fight. I hate fighting him. But he has some cool lore and his weapons look amazing. Sadly, I didn’t fight enough of him to be able to make his weapons in MH3U. They all have this theme of being black with glowy purple accents with some pretty cool shapes.
The idea behind this Elder is that he can use FOUR of the five elements. That’s Dragon, Ice, Thunder, and Fire. The only one missing is water. The problem is this makes him highly unstable. Monsters aren’t meant to have that many affinities, I guess. He uses all four against you in some capacity, though he can only use one at a time. The arena has a ballista binder, which is good because sometimes he will go into a flying phase where bringing him down is the better option to letting him fly around and have his way with you. In some ways he resembles the body shape of Kushala Daora and even has some of his moveset if I recall.
Chameleos
Tumblr media
Okay, so you have that endgame set you really like, right? Got it all nice and gemmed up the way you like it with optimal dps skills? Yeah? Okay, cool. Now open five of those slots up, shove some anti-theft decorations in those slots, and suck it up. No, I said suck it up. Stop crying, you can have your skills back later.
Your enjoyment of Chameleos can be inversely proportional to how many of your items he’s stolen with that long tongue of his, as well as how rare those items are. The more he’s stolen, the more you want to cry and possibly throw something. You will not be getting those items back. R.I.P.
That being said, as a whole, I highly enjoy Cham. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I had to farm him excessively, both for my status blademaster set and for several of his top tier poison weapons. But I got pretty used to his antics. A dedicated anti-theft set specifically made for fighting him helped. I still had to contend with his poison stupidity, but it’s a small price to pay.
I think Cham may be one of the only goofy-looking Elder Dragons. He just has this expression that makes you wanna laugh. Like Kirin, he’s one of those monsters that if you don’t take him seriously from the outset, he will surprise you with the amount of ass kicking he gives you.
My favorite part of fighting him was his mist. He creates mist in the area that he can vanish into unless you’ve broken his horn (at which point he’s very visible when he THINKS he’s invisible). When the mist kicks in, it does this awesome effect where his battle music become muffled, like the mist is blocking your hearing somewhat.  I liked the effect a lot and it kind of added to that immersion, like you were surrounded rather than your hunter character. His music is also ridiculously awesome imo.
Dalamadur
Tumblr media
I’m not sure if I’d put Dally as my absolute favorite, but he’s very much up high on the list for me. Dalamadur is the largest monster in the series so far. As far as I’m aware, anyway. He sits at 44039.7cm (1444.8 feet) long and is fought with his body wrapped around a mountain. At any given time, you can only reach a couple of his claws, his tail, and his chest. You can hit his head if you’re ranged or an insect glaive user. He occasionally will move in such a way that you can hit his body for a minute or two.
This guy is so big and powerful that his movements can shape the landscape. When you find him, he’s covered in this layer of stone, just kind of sleeping wrapped around a mountain peak. He wakes up, cracks the layer off himself, and comes down after you. I love his roar in particular, it just adds to this whole idea of his monster so much bigger than you. It reverbs around the whole area.
Initially, I hated this guy.  There is a lot to remember when fighting him and if you’re unfamiliar with the fight, expect wipes. Our group watched videos about how to fight him before we took him on (WoW raiding habit) and we still got toasted a lot early on.  Once you learn his phases and tells, though, he becomes manageable and kind of fun.  You definitely want to be working on different things than other people. Have someone break his tail while someone else goes after a claw. A third person can be breaking his chest, while someone else could be trying to get on his head and set bombs up there. Learning to Superman dive through his beam of death helps as well.
He’s a difficult one to carve because his body takes a long time to settle during its death throes and you could end up somewhere where his body isn’t actually landing.  That takes practice as well.  Still, taking him out is extremely satisfying.
Honorable Mentions
There are some Elder Dragons that didn’t make it on this list, but I feel like deserve a special mention, or at least an explanation as to why they didn’t make my list.
Fatalis: Fatty just never appealed to me much. I mean, he’s a large dragon and kinda cool looking, but he doesn’t stand out to me. It might be partially because I never played the original game and don’t have that nostalgia for him. I also played MH3U first and so Fatalis feels more like a more plain clone of Dire Miralis, even though I know Fatalis is the one that came first. Crim and White are too frustrating to even consider.  I don’t really have fun fighting any of these three and only really fight them when one of my friends (or myself) needs his parts.
Dire Miralis: Speaking of this guy, he almost made the list, purely based off him being the first hidden Elder I ever came across, but... he was just too aggravating for me to actually like him. There were underwater parts for no real reason other than I guess he needed to cool off his body? He also seemed to home in on you with his projectiles, even when you were doing your best to avoid them. I don’t know, I guess he just leaned too heavily on the frustrating part of things for me to love him all that much. Still, he looks pretty awesome.
Kushala Daora: This was an odd one. I juggled the idea of adding him to the list, especially with his rival Teostra making the list. But I guess rather than anything being bad about him, it was just that he didn’t stand out for me quite enough. I love Daora, don’t get me wrong, but he is a metallic, regular-ass dragon model. He uses ice and wind and his methods of using them are pretty awesome. I also like that he’s one of the Elders that has part of his mechanic crippled by poison. But in the end, I felt like I didn’t want this to be a mile-long list like the normal monsters were and in a lineup of standouts, he just didn’t stand out as much for me? Sorry Daora, I still love you. Rusted can go to hell though.
Amatsumagatsuchi: Amatsu looks fantastic and I love how his armor looks. But... while I’ve played Portable 3rd, I never actually finished it.  I never even got far enough to actually fight an Amatsu myself. So, as much as I would have liked to include him, the fact is that I haven’t fought him and also know very little about him as a monster.
Nergigante: Very similar to Amatsu.  I’ve tangled with Nergy a few times, but it’s only really been in the beta or in a few quests I don’t want to speak of where he invades for a short time and you drive him off. I have yet to get a quest to actually take him out, nor do I know anything about his lore. I feel like Nergy might become a monster I truly love once I get to know him, but for now, he’s just too much of an unknown factor to include on this list.
And that’s the end of my posts on my favorite monsters. If any of the Monster Hunter World monsters really stand out to me, I may make separate posts for them later to gush about them a bit.
I am still considering a favorite music post, but there’s a lot I need to consider and re-listen to before I make a decision on that. Thanks for reading!
