"Eloise is only friends with Cressida to spite her!"
"Penelope couldn't have told Eloise about LW because Eloise would have blabbed!"
"Pen is a great friend who only writes about the Bridgertons to protect them!"
"Colin is going to be fine with Pen being LW and is going to tell Eloise off for not forgiving her instantly!"
First Episode of Season 3
Eloise defends Penelope from Cressida, who in return shows Eloise a moment of introspection and speaks about how hard it is making friends.
Eloise has kept quiet about LW the whole year, not even blaming Penelope for the rift to Colin, just saying they've grown apart.
Penelope meanwhile is already slagging off Colin through LW following her argument with him in the garden.
Colin reads what LW writes about him, and remembers how she hurt Eloise and Marina, and swears he would ruin LW if he finds out who she is.
Episode ends.

So, I watched Bridgerton S3 and I have to say although not bad by itself, compared to the previous seasons it's a downgrade.
Some of the biggest writing inconsistencies I noticed for Pen are:
Firstly, in S1, her actions towards Marina (as wrong as they were) could still be understood as her looking out for her friend by not letting him get into a marriage without all the facts. But in this season, she does the exact same thing Marina does, get into an engagement with Colin without revealing her LW identity. This just made her look like a hypocrite.
Secondly, if I remember correctly, in S2 her reasoning for outing Eloise is that the Queen would never believe Pen if she confessed. But in S3 she does exactly that and the Queen not only believes her but also absolves her of all consequences. So, what even was the point of outing Eloise?
Thirdly, Pen's claim that LW tells the truth made me laugh. I don't know why they made her say that. It gave me the ick. She publishes gossip, not truth. It's dangerous to equate the two.
I love Pen as a character. She is flawed, makes mistakes and that makes her interesting. The girlbossification arc with her giving that speech at her sister's ball just did not land for me. Pen struggled with feeling loved and desired, so imo they should have focused on that, instead LW takes the lead and Polin takes a backseat.
The whole Cressida shit show. How am I supposed to not root for her after knowing how she was raised and what circumstances she was facing?
Eloise turning away from her when Cressida needed her the most. That's character assassination of Eloise. It could have been a moment of growth for her. But bad writing strikes again.
Violet and Edmund's first meet parallel with Francesca and Michaela would have been very cute if Michaela had the tongue-tied reaction instead of Fran.
The atrocious costuming! Not asking for accuracy, just maintain the aesthetic established in previous seasons. There's only so far you can stray before it breaks immersion.
It just felt like the show had shifted genres. Previous seasons were romance with a pinch of drama. This season felt like drama with a pinch of romance. I don't know if that makes sense.
I hope Ben's season turns out better.

the racism and antiblackness in the bridgerton fandom might be the only period accurate thing about this show.

Bridgerton in s1, s2, and the spinoff essentially: LW has done nothing helpful, she only adds harm to society's reputations, especially that of women and young girls who have little means of ways to protect themselves. It's why so many are scared that their every move is being watched. It's very evident that, whoever she is, has nothing better to do and probably wouldn't be accepted or forgiven by the Ton if their identity was revealed.
Bridgerton s3, for some reason: Oh LW is amazing (because it's Penelope) and is a true testament to how someone can overcome such harsh trials and come out on top (because, of course, being "ignored" gives you the right to weaponize your power and privileges to harm others, even those who you've never spoken too, just because you want to be seen, even though you hide behind an anonymous gossip sheet). Some people should even be jealous of the feats she's overcome (because, yes, it perfectly makes sense for a feminist character to be jealous of someone who's only used their power to hurt women and young girls for some cash and entertainment, totally makes sense).

Penelope is a Wallflower…BY CHOICE
Tumblr media
Aight, I’m tired of this “Even a wallflower can bloom” propaganda that Netflix keeps trying to force feed. Penelope is a self imposed wallflower. Through season 1 and 2, Penelope has not tried once to befriend debutantes or talk to anyone in the ton that’s her age, at least from what we’ve seen. It’s not like she tried and people were like, “gtfo my face” and that no one wanted to talk to her. Hell, Edwina tried to strike a convo with her and she ended it quickly to go sniff out Colin’s ass.
I understand how hard it can be to put yourself out there. A full blown introvert is writing this shit right now, but you can’t complain that no one notices you tied with your constant “pretty bridgerton” asshole comment when you put zero effort in talking or courting. That’s the kicker for me, she complains about being a wallflower when she made herself one. But we all know why she didn’t try to socialize; how else was LW supposed to get her content.
Penelope isn’t a victim. Penelope chose to not interact and be unseen cause she wanted to be a fly on the wall for LW for exploit, profit and disdain, more son in S2. She didn’t care about courting cause she only wanted Colin. One of the reasons why she’s doing what she’s doing now is because of Colin saying he didn’t want to date her(should’ve stuck to your guns Colin).
The upcoming season is proof that if she just tried, she would’ve been seen.
It’s not cause she’s shy, it’s not cause she has anxiety, it’s not cause she’s reserved. She is awkward, I give her that, but when it comes to men. She’s completely fine engaging in talk with women(and completely fine in tearing them down).
You know who really embodies a true wallflower: Francesca. From what we’ve seen and known from spoilers, trailer and even her promo, Francesca is reserved and rather stay to herself. She won’t deny anyone a conversation, unless the people are obviously creepy or the topic gets uncomfortable, but she’s nervous cause it’s her first time out on the marriage mart and sticking to the walls is what comforts her at the moment; it’s how she copes.
Francesca doesn’t want to be seen cause she feels she ain’t ready for the marriage mart and is nervous.
Penelope doesn’t want to be seen cause she’s a borderline sociopathic gossipmonger.

you’re telling me the bridgerton writers really said “we’ll have benedict suggest john throw rocks at francesca’s window as a bold declaration of love” knowing full well that eloise was throwing rocks at penelope’s window in season one and had eloise staring longingly after penelope all season and have had eloise essentially always be short with colin and made it canon that as a child she wanted to be a knight with penelope and they said they’d be spinsters together and i’m somehow supposed to buy that she wasn’t in love with penelope? sure

it's so funny that this whole "which bridgerton would cheat" discussion was started only to put down colin bridgerton but now that more people are getting involved the fingers are pointing towards everyone including anthony, benedict and even mrs frannie kilmartin 🤭

Why I hate Male!Michael & why that's got NOTHING to do with Heterophobia.
I feel like it's important for me to make this post, so y'all understand WHY I've made this blog.
So, first off - the central theme of Francesca’s book is moving on from the love of her life.
You do need to actually wait for Francesca, Michaela, and John to have more than 1 minute of screen time together to know more about Francesca's feelings for John in contrast with the instant sexual attraction (or as some may say "letting her pussy drop") for Michaela
Tumblr media
That's super interesting. & 2nd CHOOSING a partner she knows she can't have a kid with is entirely different from not being able to have a kid because 1) Queer people are also infertile and also choose to give up being able to have bio kids to be with their partners and 2) Francesca is literally able to have children in the end because of Julia Quinn Magic Dick???
Most of you are the making the case "oh, they can still do all that" which is TRUE
I'm a proud lesbian woman.
Using Francesca’s story for our issues is AWESOME
Tumblr media
Also Eloise should be queer too.
She could have easily chosen not to have the kids she ends up having & be content raising Marina's children with Philip. She's a nonconformist already! It wouldn't have been a stretch for her to fall in love with Philip's sister, who's raising the kids after both Philip and Marina died. It wouldn't have been a stretch for her to move in with the lady who doesn't care about society, only for her studies and children.
It IS NOT a stretch for Francesca to marry a man after being raised her entire life with everyone telling her that marriage is her entire purpose, attempt to have a child with him, lose that pregnancy after the tragedy of losing said husband, while struggling to understand her confusing feelings for his cousin since she literally has no idea what they mean and has no idea queer women are even a thing. she may think she can never really be with michaela in the way she wants to when she decides to remarry in the books. she may think she can never have a family with michaela - the way she yearns to in the books. she may fear she won't ever be accepted as her partner in the society she grew up in ON THE SHOW! but since this is Bridgerton there will be a Happily Ever After ending based on REAL LIFE LESBIANS who were able to live together, raise families together, and even get approval DIRECTLY FROM THE REAL LIFE QUEEN
Doing this to Fran is AWESOME! because of the genderswap and the talented actresses Masali and Hannah and Victor!
[Excluding this section from my satirical repost because this is a serious part and I genuinely resonate with the OP here and wouldn't belittle their experience here]
Francesca's story always spoke to me on a personal level. & I love Michael's gender change and am excited to see how the relationship between John and Francesca is also handled
This was the way to do it!
Also - I feel like it's important to say this : Don't go harassing the actors over this. Don't start blogs where you say the actress isn't suited for the role and where your icon is literally her face with an X over it. If you have to - get a life and some hobbies instead of going after Jess, Shonda, Netflix & Julia.

Wait...
There are people who insult those who don't validate / don't like the kiss between Rhaenyra & Mysaria as homophobic ?
Really ?
Are we at this level again ?
This is on the same level as being called homophobic and queerphobic for not 100% agree with the gender change from Michael to Michaela in Bridgerton (although, if you have read my posts on this subject, you know that I am not completely opposed to it and that part of me can't wait to see what the Franchaela season will bring).
Yes there are homophobes, but not everyone is like that, it’s ridiculous !
You are no better than these disgusting bigots by going to insult people who were just attached to a literary male character who has existed for years and are waiting to see him come to life on screen, or who do not validate a stupid ship between two women who don't exist in the original canon of the book from which the show is adapted, but who are also written in a stupid way in the show itself and have no fucking reason to be there !
It's crazy though.
Besides, it kills me that people really ship Rhaenyra & Mysaria.
They even have a fucking ship name ; Rhaesaria...
This all infuriates me.

“Edwina got jilted because she was stubborn and refused to take Kate’s word that Anthony didn’t love her!”
No, Edwina got jilted because Anthony was a wishy-washy moron who proposed to her knowing he loved Kate and only changed his mind at the altar! Blaming someone for getting jilted is gross, idk why people are apparently still doing it. I thought we all agreed Anthony was in the wrong there??
Also, people fail to consider that Edwina likely hoped Anthony would either fall in love with her while courting her, or after they married. A fantasy, considering her own sister clearly believed otherwise? Perhaps. But not unrealistic for someone who’s only just made her debut—she’s fairly young still.

Cancel me, but Pen is literally doing the exact same thing to Colin that she criticised and ostracised Marina for doing. Sure, her being lady whistledown isn't as serious as a pregnancy, but it still counts—its still betrayal. It's one of the reasons why I genuinely cannot like people defending Penelope and presenting her as this totally innocent victim who's done no wrong or whatever. I love penelope because the actress is just so great, and even the character is well written at times, but her and her fans' own hypocrisy is funny because Pen does the exact same things she criticises other people for doing.
