Apollo 10½: A Space Age Childhood (2022, dir. Richard Linklater) - review by Rookie-Critic
Tumblr media
Apollo 10½: A Space Age Childhood sees director Richard Linklater in very familiar fashion. Crafting a movie that is not so much a story as it is a nostalgic, semi-autobiographical time capsule of life in Houston, TX in 1969, of being a child at the prime age to watch Neil Armstrong take the first steps on the Moon. Shown through rotoscope animation (live-action footage that has been animated over) so as to convey the fantastical nature of the time and place, Apollo 10½ manages to be fairly engrossing for a movie with barely any coherent plot outside of a few scenes depicting the main child (an obvious stand-in for Linklater) training secretly for a test mission to the Moon prior to the actual launch of Apollo 11. Honestly, I think I would have liked it even more had they just cut out the Apollo 10½ mission altogether and just made this a period piece in the true vein of most of Linklater's catalogue. You truly get a sense of what it must have been like then and Linklater has such a fantastic way of painting an exact portrait of the times and places he's familiar with that it's hard to resist the charm of his movies. This one is no exception.
Score: 8/10
Currently available for streaming on Netflix.

I drew the storyboard for this comic in bed a while ago and when I found it again yesterday I thought. I need to draw this. Immediately.
Enjoy.

Both Aphrodite and Apollo cabins are popular in camp half-blood for being full of pretty people, both cabins campers have the reputation of being the most attractive persons in miles around without exaggerating
But also a general concense is that the beauty of the two cabins is pretty much different
Apollo "the most beautiful among the gods"always was represented as a kouros his image was the perfection of a young man, the top of the bar when is about a standard
And just like their father Apollo kids often are sort kind of standar
They are an ideal of what is supposed to be attractive, being always aligned to what is the hegemony of beauty, obviously that doesn't mean that all of them are "perfect" is comun that one of two things slip out the parameters, but the point remains, they're attractive to almost everyone because they are what you always heard is supposed to be beautiful
Aphrodite in the other hand is the goddess of love and beauty as concepts , something so fluid and free to interpretation and we see that with her, because she's not an standar, an standar is closed and pretty well known, she is the beauty itself donw your ideas of it always changing because to no one she would be exactly the same
And their kids also are like their Mother, changing and indescriptible
their faces are always beautiful down what its their own idea of beauty, but for you they would look a little bit as your own ideals, and even if they weren't your type you can't deny that it's something magnetic around them, it's not just the beautiful looks but also pure incarnated Beauty that no words can describe

Imagine the Apollo, Athena, Aphrodite, Hephaestus, and Dionysus cabins working together to have a yearly musical at camp half-blood.
The Apollo kids write the songs
The Dionysus kids write the script
Athena and Aphrodite kids make the costumes
Hephaestus and Athena kids make the set
This is the only time that Dionysus acts interested in the camp

Rating all the cabins by how they are as patience on average according to me Will Solace
Cabin 1: 5/10 (I’ve only had Jason as a patient but he is constantly getting concussions to the point I had to make him wear a helmet cause he’d refuse)
Cabin 2: there are no members of cabin 2
Cabin 3: 2/10 (Percy oh my gods stop doing dumb shit and sending armies of people to the infirmary during capture the flag)
Cabin 4: 9/10 (they are great. They listen to me. A lot of the meditation comes from plants so they help a lot)
Cabin 5: 3/10 (not only do they get sent to the infirmary all the time but you also suck as patients cause so many lie about their symptoms to seem tough. Don’t tell me the pain is a 0 out of 10 when I am looking at your broken hand)
Cabin 6: 6/10 (sometimes they are the best patients and listen to me and give me detailed descriptions of their pain and symptoms. Other times they think they know more than me and try to “um actually” me.)
Cabin 7: 1/10 (doctors are the worst patients and that applies here)
Cabin 8: idk I’ve never had a hunter of Artemis patient
Cabin 9: 4/10 (stop doing dumb shit! A lot of injuries from their inventions malfunctioning. Sometimes won’t go to the infirmary until they finish an invention)
Cabin 10: 7/10 (pretty good patients. Sometimes will be annoying or try to flirt/set you up with someone while you are working. But so long as you give them pretty bandages or cast/slings they are fine)
Cabin 11: 6/10 (actually good patients a lot of the time. Help proverbs a lot of the stuff in the infirmary. The Stoll brothers lower the rating though because their pranks send a lot of patients my way)
Cabin 12: 7/10 (good patients surprisingly. Listens very well. Though sometimes struggles to explain their symptoms but they try their best)
Cabin 13: 10/10 (the best patients. So great. They are amazing. I’m not biased what are you talking about)
@crow-collective15 what do y'all think?

why is cabin 9 specifically so cursed. what's up with Hephaestus and curses. Beckendorf dies and they get cursed. Fire-power Hephaestus kids are bad luck. Their dad owns the Junkyard of the Gods (everything in it is SUPER cursed). There's random cursed items just left abandoned in Bunker 9. Apparently Hephaestus/Aphrodite/Ares relationships are inherently cursed. who hurt them.
