People in the Inquisition would not have known Solas = Fen'harel, but there are so many cracks in his disguise that they can reasonably conclude "this elf is purposefully hiding his past." It's not even his magic/the Fade - Solas as a person doesn't quite add up.
He claims he's a random apostate elf from some nowhere village up North. He studies the Fade so extensively that he knows it better than anyone the Inquisition can find. So far, so good tbh - he's "self-taught", and the Fade is something any mage can readily access. Even being a Dreamer isn't a stretch to believe. That's something that comes to some people naturally, and with no Circle or clan to warn him off of it, it's a logical thing for a mage to develop. His aptitude with spirits is another thing that makes sense - he knows how to keep the more dangerous ones at bay so benefits from the knowledge and friendship of the kinder spirits.
His scars and fighting style are also not problematic. Everyone in Thedas has scars, and anyone outside of the nobility could be involved in a fight, especially living in the wilds. Solas appears to be in his 40s. That's a long time living on your own, and on the run from Templars and bigots. Even the sophistication of his magic isn't a problem. Bull's right to notice it doesn't "clunk", but it's not unrealistic for a disciplined self-taught mage to get good enough at the same menu of spells over the course of around ~40 years.
The main problem is everything else. He maintains he was always alone, but has no problem navigating any kind of social circle with an easy charisma. He lived in the wilds all his life, yet has a breadth of knowledge that suggests academia. He has Josie get him books from all cultures, both translated and not, that cross several Ages. He claims that he belonged to no organization, yet has sophisticated insights into politics and diplomacy. He paints in an intricate, difficult style of art with a talent that is perfected, but where would an apostate living in the woods be able to practice fresco painting? He is incredibly passionate about things he'd reasonably have no experience with - slavery, the Qun, the plight of mages, and while yes, it's a moral standpoint anyone could take, he talks about it like he knows it and admits he's taken up his fair share of causes. And then there's General Solas, who slips out occasionally to give sound, on-the-ground tactical advice and admits he's fought in an "elven skirmish."
The disguise is helped by his reticence and ready admission that he doesn't want to give anything away about himself. That's logical for an apostate in a Chantry institution. But even without his knowledge of ancient elves, Solas knows too much about too much.
#for rp i love people questioning his past like Viv and Bull do or thinking he's purposefully hiding it. we ALL did when we first played#people could logically think he was an escaped circle mage; escaped tevinter slave; or even a sentinel elf post-temple of mythal#what i dont love is the jump from “this elf is hiding his past” to “so he must be the Dread Wolf” ive had too many bad experiences w/ that#but in general? go ham dig in call him out#headcanons (some have wisdom for those willing to listen.)#INQUISITION |

On Matters Of Child Minding
for @awordbroken for the @fallenlondonficswap.. hi charm :3c chance saw fit to assign us, so it seemed only par for the course that I write about a shared topic of interest~ I hope you like it <3
Summary: Mr Fires finds itself yet again tasked to watch over Mr Transport on a day is was not scheduled to care for it.
Words: 1.8k
Also on ao3!
Mr Fires burned with a deep, bitter resentment. This whole matter was indignant and insulting, a true sign of its colleagues' lack of aptitude. There would be hell to pay in response for this insult, this calamity, this-
Its raging thoughts were interrupted by the chirping of the delighted child hanging off its arm, seemingly enjoying the motion of Fires pacing around the room. Its ire simmered down to embers as it moved to scratch the child under the chin where it hung.
Of course, It did not blame Transport for this matter - it bore no responsibility for the failings of its colleagues - but this did not change the fact that it work had been so sorely interrupted.
It had already done much to accommodate its schedule for when it was its turn to care for the child, and yet, somehow it found itself being tasked with it on a day entirely out of planning. It did not care what ‘emergencies’ came up, it had its own work to do - logic that of course was heeded no mind to. Leave it Fires to be the only one to properly follow schedules around here!
Most irritating of all, was that this was not the first time this matter had occurred. For some reason, its damnable colleagues kept finding a way to pass off the caring duties onto Fires whenever the schedule came up dreadfully lacking, as if its work wasn’t a matter to be considered. It knew very well it was far more equipped and experienced then its colleagues, like with most matters, but that didn’t suddenly mean it had all the free time to spare.
Fires couldn’t help as its mind wanders back to oh so long, of times that had passed before with other, smaller chirping things. It shook its head to clear its thoughts; there was no time for pondering the past, nor for the aching emptiness that threatened to creep up in quiet, inactive moments.
It had been this matter of its busy schedule that had kept it from child rearing of its own, of course. Far too busy with work, dedicated to its plans for its factories, for London, all the matters dictating why it hadn't dedicated its time to producing any children in quite some time.
And unlike a certain colleague of its, it would not unfairly pass off its duties onto others.
With the energy of this particular child, and no playmates to help entertain it, it was a full time task in and of itself. Fires almost wonders if it's a matter of its parentage that leads it to being so particularly rambunctious, or if it had simply been far too long since Fires had been around pups. It knows from experience just how much chaos little ones could cause, of how much focus and dedicated time was required to properly care for. It couldn’t help but ponder slight concern on the matter of its soleness - it would be an unideal matter of socialization, to be raised without a creche of other pups.
As it was, Fires went on, doing its best to keep the child occupied, begrudging its lack of work hours all the while. Thinking of the reports delayed as it yet again fetched the child's model train to slobber on, keeping its time preoccupied with tiring out the rambunctious little thing. It knew if it did not entertain it, it would find something else to play with, and Fires was not inclined to have any items in its rooms destroyed.
If perhaps its mood softens at the delighted squeaks and chirps of the child as it played, that was neither here nor there, now was it?
With all due time, even a child as energetic and destructive as Transport was bound to settle down, its new set of teeth proudly shown as it let out a tired yawn. Fires held it gently as it scooped the tired pup up, settling it gently under its arm for the moment, as Transport snuggled its head down finally, finally, nap.
And then Fires was left to ponder in the silence.
It would of course do no well to sit around while the child napped, now would it? The most efficient use of its time would be to get a start on the work it was missing while it napped. It's not like the child could go far, or anyone would duly notice if Fires attended to its own office, and Fires knew itself well enough to know it would not be able to sit still and waste the hours.
It was a simple, logical plan. Mr Fires would simply go to one of its offices, work on the backlog of paperwork that was piling, and make at least some use of time while the child rested.
Yes, it was the simplest course of action.
Or at least, the concept of it was.
As it goes with any matter of trying to organize and work, it was only a matter of time before frustration rose. People’s lack of aptitude and capability never ceased to anger it, and time and time again it found its employees falling short. Sorting the ins and outs of its various factories and experiments is one thing, but the job becomes near impossible when people can't even get their work done on time! Sure, it was behind in delivering its own reports, but that was extenuating circumstances. Its factory managers had no excuse in the matter!
It was only when it came across the third missing report that it gave up altogether, huffing a puff of smoke out from its hood as it dropped the papers back on its desk. Fires drummed its claws on the desk as it considered its course of actions; It would have to seek out those reports from the factories itself.
With a quick check to ensure the child was still sleeping, Fires moved out of its office with a quick gesture towards its staff. It would have to be quick in the matter- there was no telling when it's time would run out, and it was playing a risky game it knows - but it was damn well going to get that report even if it had to drag it out of the foreman itself.
It would need to make the most efficient use of travel time - a matter that would of course involve its dirigible. Sure, all in its city was fair enough to walk between, but why waste time traversing around the scattering ants who would get in its way?
It boarded its ship with a determined moment, deciding to limit it having any crew when it took more than 3 seconds for its pilot to come aboard, electing to travel itself and the rest of its staff would have to find their own way there.
Once it was in flight, directions in order, firm in its plans, Fires looked to check on the child again.
It was not there.
A sharp pang of panic suddenly shot through Mr Fires, of which it quickly worked to rationalize. It shook its own limbs, as if it would suddenly notice the child clinging somewhere else.
It was not there.
Oh. This was… most certainly not ideal. If it misplaced the child, it would never hear the end of it, let alone the chaos of what would happen if it ventured outside to the public. It was most certainly not panicking and fearing for the safety of the child.
It forced itself to think rationally on the situation - it very clearly remembered the child's grasp when it had ventured onto the dirigible, so by all accounts, it could not have gone far. Yes, of course, Fires must have simply gotten distracted during the venture on board and it did not feel the child wander off.
Thus, a thorough search must be conducted on board, it reasoned, and there was no sense in considering the panicked thoughts of if it had wandered off before then, and if Fires would have to search much, much farther before anyone became aware.
It was relieved it had chosen to limit the staff on board as Fires searched around the airship in a fit, moving so quickly it was liable to start catching aflame and smoking the ship out.
It throws open the supply closet door - nothing, not even as it moves around a discarded broom, and lifts up a toppled over bucket.
It checked the side quarters it very, very occasionally rested in - no sign of it there.
Even the smaller backroom of which its employees were to wait in was astoundingly empty.
It was about to truly fall into a panic, rushing back into the control room, when it finally took a moment to glance down at the control panel.
Of course, there Transport was, happily gnawing away at one of the panel’s levers, seemingly overjoyed at its new found ‘toy’, none the wiser of its caretaker’s fearful fretting.
The anxious fury cooled down to embers as a wave of fond amusement passed through Fires at the sight. Had it been here this whole time? Why had Fires not thought to look in the very place it started to panic.
“Ah, I should have known. Fond of the dirigible, are we? Industry is a particularly ideal specimen.” Transport looks up at Fires with its big, bright eyes as it speaks. “Bigger than your little toys, I'm sure. I imagine you and I are going to have quite the manner of arguments when you’re grown, hm? I won’t be separated from my ships without a fight.”
Transport, of course, paid no mind to its comments, continuing to happily gnaw away on a lever.
The child came with only a little manner of tugging its mouth away from the lever as Fires scoops it up, Transport moving to hang happily off its arms as Fires walks closer towards the airships panels. It delights in telling the pup all about the inner workings of the machine, as it watches aptly with bright eyes. Fires wasn’t sure if it was quite at the capability to understand what it was saying yet, but proper education starts young, after all. As it was, its ears peaked up and swiveled around with Fires’ voice as it paid apt attention - at least as much as an energetic pup could.
The matter of the factory reports was all but forgotten as Fires continued to delight in showing off its airship to the little one, moving from the controls, to the panels, to the view out the window as it speaks of its great affection for all it transpires. It doesn’t even mind that the child moves to bite on its sleeve as it talks.
Perhaps it was not so grand an insult to have been left to watch the child unplanned for.
Spices would still be getting through earful later, though. Insults, even minor ones, must still be accounted for.
#when i saw i got you for my partner i absolutely knew immediatly i wanted to write about fires and transport#this is of course the fires and baby bats zone after all right#so! i hope this is indeed enjoyable <3 finally got my brain to sit down and write lmao#fallen london fic swap#fallen london#mr fires#mr transport#my writing

i’m gonna be honest the notion that jean paul/azrael are bad at detective work/skills annoys me. they're not BAD at it. they're not PATIENT enough for it and find it boring. because of this they seem bad at it, but actually being bad at it and not having patience for it have COMPLETELY different characterization implications, imo.

from batman: sword of azrael (1992) #3
(see above) from one of their very first appearances jean paul is shown to be very adept at problem solving and logical reasoning, both skills important in detective work. and this is with practically no experience, beyond what was implanted in the system.
i do understand where people get the idea that they're "bad" at detective work from--it is stated constantly throughout the knightfall saga that jp/az, and i do see most of these as azrael character moments, are bored by/don't like detective work. but i think it's very important to remember the context of those issues. they're in the middle of severe emotional and psychological dysregulation, and have less capacity for things like slowing down and doing detective work. but that doesn't mean they aren't able to, especially when they're not in active crisis. and this is proven throughout azrael: agent of the bat. jp and azrael are not absolute expert detectives, obviously, and they're still impatient and immature in a lot of their casework, and rush into situations before knowing all the details. but they still display a natural aptitude and skill in detective work, something that bruce wayne comments on in his own narration about jean paul/azrael!
also! according to the azrael secret file below, they were barely twenty-one during the events of SoA 1992! of course jp/azzy are impatient and immature sometimes!
azrael secret file from batman: no man's land secret files #1
i just think it's too easy to say that jean paul and azrael are bad detectives when, in my opinion, the majority of that evidence is taken out of context (knightfall saga and the fact that they were in the middle of a mental health crisis) and also doesn't acknowledge the fact that they are early to mid twenties AT THE MOST, with VERY little actual training in detective work. or in anything outside of being a brute force assassin only used to kill and send threats.
am i saying they're good at utilizing these skills and actually doing the detective work? no. but i think that just saying "they're bad at it" is an oversimplification that can lead to the development of mischaracterization, or at least unfaithful characterization, of jean paul and azrael
#id in alt text#also#this is not directed at anyone ! i just see a lot of people say this as a blanket statement#and i fear that people who haven't done complete readings of jp/az could see that and take it as absolute unassailable truth#which we all know the dc fandom is very likely to do#also this was my first time image id'ing comic panels so if you have any tips/corrections in how i did it i'd be happy to hear them#jean paul valley#jpv#azrael

Can I get something with Miguel with a fem s/o that's a witch. Like they're both from the same dimension and he barely finds out she's not really using modern technology much, as she is using her own magic to complete daily tasks? 🎃
that is interesting,,, SURE ANON !!!
(reblogs are greatly appreciated, it helps get my content out there! if you guys like what you see, please reblog it too <:D)
miguel o'hara x witch!reader (headcanons and blurbs !!)

miguel would not be the type to believe in anything mystical nor magic, though after meeting you, he might've had some second thoughts when he saw your powers in action.
he used to think you were using simulations or advanced holographic technology to cast your spells and illusions, he is skeptical to a FAULT, he refuses to believe anything that can be explained beyond science exists.
showing him your magic for the first time scared him, because he couldn't explain through a scientific or logical manner how phenomena like that is possible. he did get amazed by how you can use your magic in practical ways, though, but he stands by the use of technology, he doesn't think he can do magic very well.
"this is... very intricate technology you have here." miguel said as he looked at the translucent creature you summoned, inspecting it all around. you looked at him with a raised eyebrow, "technology?" "what is it, nanotech? holograms? don't tell me you're an arts and design major, because as impressive as the design is, i can't believe you'd plant a million little cameras all for this." he said in subtle awe as he reached out to touch the 'hologram', when all of a sudden... it licked him; the creature reached out and licked him.
you chuckled as you placed your hand on the creature's snout, with it purring and nuzzling towards your palm. miguel stepped back a little and tried to comprehend what just happened. "it... licks." "it does." you said with a smile as miguel's hand felt wet and sopping. "how did you, um, program it to... to salivate?" "i didn't program, i summoned." you corrected him as he muttered under his breath something in spanish. "no, it's... it's a hologram." "familiars aren't holograms." miguel stayed silent as he tried to come up with a logical answer as to why the creature you had was able to salivate, and seemingly blink, breathe, smile, nuzzle up to you as if it had a corporeal form, and have a heartbeat. no way was magic the reason, right?
every time he calls for you to get him something, it's always there in an instant, even when you're lying down or lounging around because of your telekinetic magic. you don't have to fold clothes or get up to make a coffee for yourself, you do all that and more with your telekinesis, and... miguel is super jealous you don't need that much brain power to multitask, unlike him.
if you had teleportation magic, miguel NEVER gets used to you just randomly popping up behind or next to him. he always gets spooked by you whenever he just turns around and sees you there or hears your voice so closely that he jumps out of his skin.
your summoning magic is not only very helpful, but it kinda makes miguel a little competitive with you. he thinks he can make lyla summon stuff faster than you, but ultimately, AI just can't beat raw talent, and of course, your raw talent and aptitude at magic cannot be beaten.
he doesn't know too much about technology, however, since he majored in biology, but he thinks using technology is much more convenient and tries to teach you how to at least use a basic communication device.
you both have one thing in common, though, you both suck horribly at using 21st century technology.
"what the shock am i doing?" you asked yourself aloud as you tapped on the screen of the phone you borrowed from a random stranger to try and contact miguel. being stranded in the past is awful, especially when your powers were on the fritz that day for some reason and you couldn't contact miguel through any medium other than through the technology of the 21st century. the stranger tried helping you out, with you failing to understand fully how to make a call to him, but when you did call him, you were surprised to see his face so up close to the screen.
it took you both a few tries to talk through the phone, but eventually, you both managed to have a very choppy and unintelligible conversation that was courtesy of bad signal and free crappy wifi at the local coffee shop miguel was at. "man, fuck this." you muttered as you handed the stranger their phone back and tried to find him, but without technology from 2099 nor your powers, you were in for a shitty day ahead of you.
he will admit, though, your magic makes up for technology's shortcomings. your magic hardly fails or screw up badly since you've been a witch for a long time already, though he says it in the most forced out and long-winded way as possible like ,,,,
after you saved miguel's tight ass from that eldritch monster that threatened to destroy nueva york from the ground up with only the raw magic you could muster and the abilities you were taught from a very young age, miguel had... sort of admired you for what you did for him. he was relieved he was saved, but to know magic was what would save him and not the technology he invested so much of his time on, he had felt a little embarrassed that it couldn't hold a candle to your talents, but he shouldn't have to be surprised that you were this strong this whole time.
"um..." he began as he got to his feet, with you helping him up with your powers. "yeah?" "...you did very... very little to destroy the city more than that monster had. it's very commendable, o-on your part. i'm... i'm glad you understand your powers well enough to... to keep mass destruction from- from occurring." he said with a slight bashfulness in his tone. "...and thank you for... helping evacuate all those people. i-i mean, i could've done it, but, y'know, the monster and all had like, 8 tentacles and i only have 4 limbs, so..." "you're welcome, miguel." you said with a bright smile, which made him even more flustered and embarrassed at how humble you were, how you didn't brag about how right you were that magic truly was a powerful asset, even in the 22nd century.
he tried not to expose himself for his embarrassment and tried to tell you how you could use the tech he gifted you to your advantage, but he couldn't even do that when he realized his tech couldn't even hold the monster back and had to get you to help him with your magic. "if it's... possible, would you like to... teach me some basic... basic... shock it, would you please teach me some basic magic?" he finally blurted out, to which you immediately said, 'yes!' to. he couldn't believe he was doing this, but, he had to admit, your magic was a force to be reckoned with; you were a force to be reckoned with. he wants to keep his home, family, friends and... you safe, of course, so to do that, he'd have to learn from the best of the best to get a little more creative and find better solutions to keep this city safe.

Hailing Frequencies (Part 2)
A/N: Yes, it's finally here! I don't know how many of you were waiting for it, but Springworld is back and it's getting gayer as we speak! Follow for Part 3, or if you're feeling nostalgic, head on over to the Springworld site on Neocities which I have somehow taught myself enough HTML to make work on both desktop and mobile. (There's a cute cursor on desktop though.)
[art by @rain-bowflame]
[Part 1]
Petal was a smuggler. You wouldn't think that looking at him. Or maybe you would. I don't know you. But be aware, he was just a little guy. A bunny boy! Even for a lagoform, his ears were big, and the way they flopped down beneath that fluffy mess of red hair obscuring his face gave him the air of an adorable plushie come to life. He was a lop, and with all the intended impartiality in the world, it was hard for most creatures to see him as anything other than a cute, cuddly fuzzbrain who didn't know the meaning of the word "smuggler," let alone how to trawl nullboards for illicit spacehop jobs.
Their mistake.
It's not like Petal had intended to be a smuggler. Few young bunnies stand up at Show & Tell with a hacked datapad and regale their classmates with aspirations to a life of crime, danger, and paranoid self-isolation, and fewer still are the guidance counselors who might advocate for such a path, or the career aptitude tests that would mention the criminal profession outside the bounds of a heady word problem on the math and logic portion. But things happen, life doesn't always go as you think it will, plans change, and career aptitude tests have always been of more use to the people who run factories and armies than to the people taking them. Imposed destinies are a dime a dozen, but they don't come in very many sizes, after all. The fact is, Petal was good at smuggling, though he hadn't been doing it very long, and if creatures tended to underestimate him due to silly things like the shape of his ears, so much the better—as long as his employers knew he meant business, it was better that way. Who did he think he needed to impress?
It's not like he had many folks to impress, anyway. Planetside, maybe. Not out here where you weren't weaving through traffic so much as looking for three molecules close enough to juggle. It was quiet out here, not in the way that nighttime is quiet on the far side of your local star, but in the way that death is, or the time before you were born. Fathomless, both in yawning depth and mystery, unshrouded but empty, unresponsive, baffling in every way. It was space, but it wasn't a place—just an unlit alleyway between where one system ended and another began. A distance like that couldn't be reckoned like a little jaunt between planets, the numbers lost all meaning in the face of actually traversing such a gulf. Even time didn't work right out here, not if your engines were functioning properly, and you couldn't rely on your own senses to tell you much more than if you were hungry, sleepy, or needed to piss. A trip like this, a job like this one, could only ever be properly accounted for by the fuel it took to propel the agreed-upon cargo from point A to point B, and by the evident wear on the ship whenever the work was done.
There was a reason most of these long-haul jobs went to bots and augments—nobody paid extra for the psychological toll it took to spend so long alone, surrounded by nothing but the ship you rode in on and the certain knowledge that, if something were to go wrong, the chance of a rescue was effectively zero. It wouldn't even be worth trying to recover the cargo. Nobody with a lick of sense was going to let themselves be implicated in this venture, even if they knew where to look, because plotting a course through deep space meant sticking to approved lanes for approved travelers, or avoiding them like the plague if you weren't one.
Petal somehow got the feeling that he wasn't one.
That had never stopped him so far, though.
Turning to the viewscreen, Petal once again examined the readout: SHIP ON COURSE. NO EXTERNAL HEAT SIGNATURES DETECTED WITHIN HAILING FREQUENCIES, it had said for the past however long. Though he wasn't technically supposed to be using this lane, the chances of running into anyone else out here, even on an approved shipping route, were literally astronomical, and the onboard navigation system collaborated with an impressive array of sensors to make sure he really was alone out here. SHIP ON COURSE, he read at a quick glance. EXTERNAL HEAT SIGNATURES DETECTED WITHIN HAILING FREQUENCIES. There, you see? Nothing to worry about.
He sighed, curling up in the pilot's seat, once again thanking his past self for having the foresight to install aftermarket smart-gel cushions in the old craft. They buoyed his soft body up against the effects of artificial gravity out in space, or real gravity planetside, and protected his neck from whiplash during sudden bursts of real acceleration. He didn't know what the old transport pilots used to do in such situations, back when this ship had been used for more above-board operations. Die, he guessed. Maybe that was the reason he'd gotten the ship so cheap, after all. Damn. He thought it had been his boyish charms.
Petal pulled out his datapad and checked the manifest for the 13 billionth time. Of course, it didn't have the actual names of what he was carrying, that would have been a risk, and boyish charms or no, Petal was not inclined to fly in the face of fate from too many directions at once. A light on the primary viewscreen blinked, barely registering in the corner of his vision as he scrolled through the list in front of him. PREFABRICATED ALUMINUM SANITATION UNIT x12, said the first entry, causing him to yawn at the sheer dullness of it. That was good, maybe too good. He'd intentionally chosen aliases for his illicit goods that wouldn't inspire many questions, but now he wondered if he'd gone too boring. He'd have a hard time accounting for his supposed cargo if simply reading the names was enough to put him to sleep. Then again, it didn't take much. He was a cozy creature, at his center. It didn't matter if he was curled up in his overstuffed bed at home or halfway through a perilous leap between the stars, he couldn't help but get comfortable wherever he was, and if you were comfortable, who could help dozing off a little from time to time? Or all the time?
"And there's nothing wrong with that," he said to the absolute absence of anybody, who listened dutifully.
He turned back to the manifest again, blinking slowly just as the viewscreen blinked back, missing it entirely this time. PREFABRICATED ALUMINUM—no, that was the first one again. His head nodded downward as he put one small paw on the datapad, underlining the second entry.
Ah.
REFURBISHED PERSONAL/SMALL INDUSTRIAL CONDENSATION AGGREGATOR x8, he read, barely getting the words to sound aloud in his brain before tumbling out the back of his skull. He'd once heard that prehistoric lagoforms had had brains that were literally smooth, and while he'd have been insulted at the insinuation coming from someone else, he sometimes secretly wondered if he had more in common with his distant ancestors than not.
Petal sighed again, a comfortable sound, and let the datapad dip down as he held it, his eyes beginning to droop closed as his leporine face relaxed. It would probably all work out, he thought. It always did. He stretched his arms out and yawned wide, then gathered himself in, slipping further into the accommodating embrace of his seat and tucking his knees up beneath his chin.
The light on the main viewscreen began to blink out a slow, methodical rhythm as a fuzzy chest rose and fell, a warm machine's silent lullaby for a very, very sleepy bunny boy. As Petal nodded off, the datapad slid lethargically from his paws and, with the damning grace of a melting glacier, began to press a button on the screen. To be continued in Hailing Frequencies (Part 3) . . .

I would love to see Odin headcanons, he’s my favorite god king. I love how he’s both logical and also a warrior
hmm ok i did a lot of thinking on this ask and i think i have some stuff!
first of all. yes, as you said, i think Odin is a very logical guy... maybe too logical at times. i don't see him as being very emotional or sentimental, he just does what he knows will serve him best.
above all things, i think Odin is ambitious. super super ambitious. he craves knowledge which i feel is just another term for power, but not power in terms of how much land you own but power in terms of "knowledge is power" power.
i think Odin hates to lose. he needs to come out on top every time. as a result, he has a terrible anger. we know this already from the punishment of Loki-- i mean, he had to be seriously angry to do what he did to Narfi and Vali.
while he is a bookworm, Odin is also a warrior. he loves to fight and clash swords with another. given the viking tradition of wanting to die in battle, i think Odin prizes fighters and looks down on those who do not wish to fight.
that's not to say that Odin doesn't like peace. this is very important too. but i think Odin likes a balance of it. he doesn't shy away from war, or desperately try to avoid it if he knows he can't.
that's actually how i sort of hc Odin to have met Loki. i think, in the beginning days of the Aesir, Odin went to Jotunheim to maybe take over it, and in a recon mission, he got caught by the giants and was imprisoned.. in prison he met Loki,, a trickster full of guile that Odin admired.
i think they became friends after this point, much to Frigg's annoyance, and of course, Loki joined Odin in Asgard. i like to think about a "peace" treaty between Jotunheim and Asgard to outlaw any outright wars from either side, and that Loki, being of Jotun blood, was there to facilitate matters.
in terms of Frigg and Odin. i like the idea that Frigg was Odin's second-in-command in their early days. i realise this has no basis in lore but i just love the idea of Frigg being a warrior like Odin.
i don't think they were "heavily" in love, but Odin did admire her more than any other lover of his, and Frigg also admired Odin, so she accepted his proposal to be Queen. and i think she does an awesome job at it.
in saying that, i think they are far more in love with each other at the beginning of their relationship than at the end of it.
in terms of Baldr, Hodr, and Hermod. i hc that Baldr and Hodr are twins, though Baldr is the older of them. they are Frigg's first children but not Odin's, however, since Frigg is Odin's wife, Baldr is the "crown prince".
Hodr is blind from birth. i think that Frigg has always loved both children equally. i think Odin has a preference for Baldr because Baldr is like, the most perfect guy in every way, and Odin has a lot of high hopes for him,, and i do think this affects Hodr.
i don't think Odin intends to do this, but as i said, he is very logical. he knows that Hodr is blind and cannot participate in a battle as Baldr can. he knows also that Hodr was born second and will likely never become crown prince in Baldr's place. so he feels it is best for Hodr to stay indoors and he doesn't really dedicate too much time to teaching Hodr to use a sword, as he does with Baldr.
but, i do think Odin loves Hodr. Hodr, i think, is quite smart and i like the idea of him having an aptitude for runes and history moreso than Baldr. i think Odin would spend a lot of time with him to discuss such things. the death of both children is a tremendous loss that changes Odin and the rest of Asgard for the worse.
in terms of the rest of Odin's children by other women. i think Odin has a lot of kids primarily for political reasons. all of them have a home in Asgard and i love the idea that all of them get along with Frigg and her children... there are literally no quarrels about who's the better son or the better lover or anything like that. i don't think Odin would indulge it. i don't think Frigg likes Odin's various affairs, but i think she has always known that that side of him exists and is at peace with it. i also like the idea that Frigg and Odin are not each other's first loves..
i think Frigg might have had a "wilder" streak in her youth, when she was just a warrior and little more, but stops after becoming Queen because it no longer interests her; being a queen, a warrior, and a mother occupies her time in a far better way. i say this largely because i'm sick of there being loyal, modest queens with uncontrollable kings for husbands. i would like there to be a couple who start on "equal footing".

I changed Irina's design a bit, because I wanted it to be connected to her past.
Irina was born with a beautiful voice and an aptitude for musical instruments, because of her parents. Her mum and dad were members of an old band. Her father was a vocalist and her mother was a guitarist. The band was not very popular. They only played in pubs at night. They were good, but they broke up before they were discovered. The reason for this was that the drummer of the band left the band to go to university.
Anyway, let's get back to the main topic. Irina's mum and dad met through that band and fell in love with each other. They both had abusive parents and chose music as their only salvation. They both left home as soon as they came of age and joined the band. So it was not difficult for them to get close. They became lovers before the band broke up and after the band broke up they moved to a slum they could afford to make a life together. The place they were in was bad, but they would manage somehow. Shortly after they settled in the slum, they got married. A few months after their marriage, Irina's mother became pregnant. They were both 21 years old when this happened. Of course they were happy to have a child. After all, they could offer her the life they could not have.
After Irina's birth, things started to get worse. They were faithful to each other. There was nothing wrong with that. But the problem was that they had children with their immature minds. With their immature minds, they believed that each other was the love of their lives and brought a living being into the world. Isn't that logical?
To make a long story short, after Irina was born, their relationship deteriorated because both of them were not ready for this responsibility. This wore them down and they could no longer tolerate each other. They divorced when Irina was 4 years old because they could not continue this all their lives. Irina's custody passed to her mother and her father left home.
Irina's mother was not a wonderful person. She was angry with her ex-husband and secretly regretted giving birth to Irina. She had to work to raise her and this made her even more tired. She was becoming a tired and irritable person. Her tolerance level was getting low. It is bad to live with a parent who is always angry. On top of that, she neglected her. Irina's mother was like a bomb to explode and neglected her all the time, so Irina was not a child who could behave as she wanted.
Back to the present day, her father finally got a steady source of income and took Irina in. He promised to buy her anything she wanted. He allowed things like buying a guitar and adopting a cat. Now Irina was freer and there was no one to resent her for being childish. But there was also no one to tell her what she was doing wrong because her father thought that if he gave her everything she wanted, he would have brought her up. Irina's father was a man who thought money would solve everything. If Irina wanted something, he bought it and did nothing else. He thought that Irina fulfilled her need for affection by holding things in her hand. They had a normal budget. Although it was like a dream for someone living in a slum. Irina's father didn't take care of her so much that she didn't even worry about it when she went to the Heavy's house. He is actually only care her financial need not emotional needs.
I couldn't find anything to write after that because I'm sleepy. I'll continue tomorrow. That's all for now. Thank you for reading.

IIMs in India: A Comprehensive Guide to the Indian Institutes of Management
The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) in India are world-renowned for producing some of the most successful business leaders, entrepreneurs, and professionals. These prestigious institutions offer top-tier management education and are considered the pinnacle of business schools in India. Whether you're an aspiring MBA candidate or curious about the legacy of IIMs, this guide will help you explore all the essential details about IIMs in India.

What are IIMs?
IIMs, or Indian Institutes of Management, are autonomous public institutions offering management education programs such as the Post Graduate Program (PGP) in Management (equivalent to an MBA) and doctoral-level Fellow Programs in Management (FPM). They were established by the Indian government to enhance the quality of management education in India. The first IIM was set up in Calcutta (now Kolkata) in 1961, and today, there are 20 IIMs spread across the country.
List of Top IIMs in India
While all IIMs provide excellent education, some are considered the cream of the crop due to their history, faculty, and placement records. Here's a list of the top IIMs in India:
IIM Ahmedabad (IIMA) IIM Ahmedabad is arguably the most prestigious business school in India. It has consistently ranked as the top IIM due to its world-class faculty, rigorous curriculum, and excellent placement records. Its flagship program, the PGP, is highly sought after by students across the country.
IIM Bangalore (IIMB) Known for its lush green campus and innovative teaching methods, IIM Bangalore is another top-tier management institute. It has strong industry connections, and its focus on entrepreneurship and innovation makes it a standout choice for MBA aspirants.

Admission Process for IIMs in India
The process of getting into IIMs in India is highly competitive, with the Common Admission Test (CAT) serving as the primary gateway. Here’s an overview of the admission process:
CAT Exam: Conducted annually, the CAT is a computer-based test that evaluates candidates on their quantitative aptitude, verbal ability, reading comprehension, data interpretation, and logical reasoning. Candidates must score exceptionally well to secure a spot at the top IIMs.
Shortlisting Process: After the CAT results are announced, IIMs shortlist candidates based on their CAT scores, academic performance, work experience, and diversity factors like gender and academic discipline.
Personal Interview (PI) & Written Ability Test (WAT): Shortlisted candidates are invited for the second round, which includes a personal interview (PI) and a written ability test (WAT). These rounds assess a candidate's communication skills, clarity of thought, and ability to handle business scenarios.
Final Selection: The final selection is based on a composite score that includes CAT scores, PI/WAT performance, academic background, work experience, and other criteria specific to each IIM.
Programs Offered by IIMs in India
The IIMs in India offer a variety of programs tailored to meet the needs of students, working professionals, and even international candidates. Some of the key programs are:
Post Graduate Program (PGP): The flagship two-year program, equivalent to an MBA, offered by all IIMs. It prepares students for leadership roles in the corporate world.
Executive MBA (PGPX, EPGP): A one-year full-time MBA program designed for professionals with significant work experience. It offers a fast-tracked route to career advancement.
Fellow Program in Management (FPM): This is a doctoral-level program designed for those interested in research and academics. It is equivalent to a Ph.D. in management.
Integrated Program in Management (IPM): A five-year program offered by select IIMs, such as IIM Indore, that allows students to pursue an undergraduate and postgraduate degree in management.
Career Opportunities and Placements
One of the major reasons why students aspire to join IIMs in India is the excellent placement opportunities they offer. Each year, top companies from diverse sectors like consulting, finance, marketing, operations, and technology recruit IIM graduates with lucrative salary packages.
For instance, the average salary package for IIM Ahmedabad graduates in 2023 was approximately ₹34.5 lakhs per annum, with international placements reaching even higher figures. Companies like McKinsey, Goldman Sachs, Amazon, and the Boston Consulting Group are regular recruiters across various IIMs.

Alumni from IIMs hold leadership positions in some of the largest corporations globally, and many have gone on to establish successful startups. For the short campaign I tested Ava in, I accidentally slipped out of lawful good character by having her manipulate someone - something Rou would do if needed, and Zhalien gladly, but never Ava. Well, maybe never. If it were that or an innocent life... I'm leaving it open to react organically in play.
Anyway, I decided to put some more thought into her characterisation so I don't end up pulling a Rou or Zhalien by mistake if I ever play her again. Adam Cartwright is the foundation, but just playing Adam Cartwright would feel unsatisfying, like I wasn't molding the character myself but trying to follow someone else's writing lead.
The first difference I thought about was "Well, she's not emotionally repressed. She grew up with both her parents, always in the same stable home, and her life was and is very difficult but she's always had strong support (not that Ben doesn't support all his sons but 60s norms don't always let it come through)."
But it didn't feel like it fit to have Ava openly talk about her fear and pain, and I really liked the idea of having her lie about the severity of her injuries in combat so the other players have to catch on (which of course might be impractical in play I'd have to clear it). So I started thinking about how Ava could end up in a similar place from a different start and for different reasons.
...I really need to characterise Ava's parents. And uh write down their names so I don't come up with names and forget them again. Them being good, loving, and protective parents to their daughters is probably as much detail as needed - Rou's father and grandparents never came into play, but it was clear she had a good relationship with them and cared about how they'd feel if anything happened to her.
Bobbin, though, is Ava's main Backstory Person, just as Ava is hers. And Bobbin is not Joe Cartwright. Which is important. She's naive, overenthusiastic, chaotic, always getting in Ava's way because she's grown-up too after all - but sweet-tempered to a fault, and really couldn't care less about chasing romance. She gets annoyed when Ava treats her as a child, but idolises her openly rather than showing any resentment.
So Ava feels very protective of Bobbin, while thinking of her as a naive child (no longer a child, really) who doesn't understand how dangerous the ranch life really is. After all, things have been quieter recently, and Bobbin was still a child while Ava, a decade older, was already facing all kind of threat alongside her parents. And while she finds this perceived childishness frustrating, she does her best to keep remonstrance gentle and avoid personal attacks - which, with Bobbin's slowness to anger, isn't much of a challenge. She does greatly admire Bobbin's mechanical aptitude, sometimes wondering if she ought to try herself but dismissing the idea as impractical.
Putting all this together:
Ava is her kid sister's hero, and, despite a decent modesty, knows it. Bobbin sees her as brave, strong, practical, cunning... Traits that don't mesh well with things like fearing battle, being hampered by injury, or showing emotional pain. In Ava's mind, at least. And Bobbin's more sensitive nature means she wounds easily even though Ava goes through worse, not even realising her unflappable rock is constantly shunting pain aside to focus on her. Well, Bobbin's still a kid (19), right? Adults should be there for kids even if it's not always convenient for them, right?
Oh, yeah, and there's that second sister, born just two years ago. Ava has a baby in the house again, and she's almost thirty years old! Shouldn't she take some pressure off her parents and deal with her own problems as an adult?
And so, with an easier childhood and better relationship with her sibling than Adam, Ava reaches a similar point. Hiding her feelings not due to trauma and parentification, but from what feels like an entirely logical and not entirely conscious sequence of decisions.
I really hope I get to see how this translates into play sometime.

so this is a continuation of the Inner Circle Baby Names list I created, and I wanted to give characterization and details to these characters.
Athena Thunderheart Archeron: Pt. 1
i have a headcannon that Cassian gives all his kids what he thinks are sick as fuck middle names to represent how they came into the world. so they never forget who they are, an old Illyrian tradition that he passes onto his children. As a reminder of their heritage, the one he loves so much.
Cassian and Nesta have reservations about becoming parents.
Cassian because of how has little to no experience with the concept of fatherhood. and Nesta because of her own traumatized parental experience.
either way when they get pregnant. they both have a long discussion about it and for better or for worse they love each other too much to not try the parenting thing.
late a night when Nesta would be fast asleep Cassian would talk to the Athena in the womb.
he would tell her of adventures, battles, and how much he loved her and her mother. how he was excited to meet her. how he would do anything to give her the childhood he didn't even know he wanted but will make sure she has.
In return all he can hear is her thundering heart.
Because of how she grew up Nesta has some fears about the gender of the baby. She assumes that Cassian will want a son. This of course is not true and all he wants is a healthy baby but after a bit of communication this is quickly resolved.
Nesta has some form of chronic vaginal pain that generally made getting pregnant difficult so once it was confirmed that she was pregnant Cassian urges for her to take it very slow. which she does, but when its time for her to have Athena there is a lot of stress around Nesta's pain level and ability.
luckily this first time around the birth goes off without a hitch.
the name Athena they had decided on beforehand but as Cassian is holding her and looking into her eyes for the first time he can hear that thunderous heart just beating away, he knows that's her name.
which he sometimes calls her as a nickname.
growing up Athena shows a generally high aptitude and love of learning.
it is around this time that the Night Court is implementing a form of general accessible public education both in Illyria and the greater Night Court cities, towns & villages.
she in contrast to Nyx (whose education is overseen by private tutors) goes to one of these public schools in Velaris.
because she is very intrentched W/ "gifted kid syndrome" she can often times suffer from hubris & and a intense habit of attaching of her accomplishments to her self-worth.
but nevertheless, her main motivation is to prove how her intelligence is all she needs to make it and survive in life.
that means she will spend the rest of her life subconsciously trying to out do her parents. She is aware of what was sacrificed and she will do anything to not squander the life her parents have built for her.
she was born with the typical Archeron coloring with the tawny brown hair and paler skin, but she has Cassian's deep brown eyes. and no wings. very high fae features.
out of all the Nessian children to come she is the most like Nesta in terms maturity, wisdom, & temperament. growing up she always thought through all of the potential possibilities and goes with whatever is the most logical decision that she can find. very much a planner.
Cassian notices this early and in addition to her public education he tries to cultivate an understanding of strategy. although he never expects her to be a warrior, in fact he literally hopes she will do anything else. he hopes that for all his children, this hope eventually is found to be futile.
the only reason he encourages strategic thinking and study is because he views stategy as necessary life skill in a tricky fae world.
Athena is kinda who Nesta would have been if not raised in the patriarchal high society of the mortal realm. this makes Athena & Nesta’s bond stronger, with Nesta viewing Athena as the embodiment of the wrongness of that society righted.
it’s like Athena has a different unburdened gait from childhood going into adulthood.
because Athena is logic driven she is very blunt in a way that is still diplomatic but she does not beat around the bush for to long. her opinion will be known and it will be known that her opinion is superior and yours is stupid. when she is speaking it is in such a matter of fact way that the instinct is to just agree because she just sounds so sure and reasonable.
most of the time she is right because she has studied and learned so much she has a lot of the information and context to make the right conclusion. but she is still young an inexperienced in many ways so it is hard to know everything, she has some blind spots. her inability to acknowledge those areas are a hard lesson that she has to learn. and trust me it is not gonna be easy.
she is born 5 years after Nyx so they grow up together and are among the closest pairs compared to the rest of the next gen kids among the the various families and dynamics going on. they are close because they're friends not just because they are family.
they grow up together as sort of this dynamic duo which eventually morphs into Athena taking the role as Nyx's second and most trusted advisor into adulthood and eventually when he becomes High lord.
in the main story she is approximately 75 years old.
she lives in Velaris in the House of Wind for the first eight years of her life until Cassian & Nesta decide to move to Illyria with the birth of their second & third daughters, Torunn and Bellona respectively. who are born with wings and very Illyrian looking features.
she splits her time between her home in Illyria where she lives with her family, Velaris public school, and Valkyrie training that she has just begun with Nesta.
the Valkyrie have become part of the Night Court military (separate from Illyrians) with about 15 legions each run by a captain & lieutenant. the training was standardized for about 8 years before officially becoming a Valkyrie and about 2-3 years to become a captain or lieutenant to lead a legion.
Athena goes this route eventually becoming a captain and leading her very own legion following Nesta's example. Only serving for 10 years and eventually becoming a night court emissary alongside her mother.
she is a bit of a clean/neat freak. all her clothes are ironed & pressed, not a hair out of place. She likes to wear billowy slacks and long sleeved shirts.
when her sisters come around she is a little hesitant a first because she is unsure how her parents will be changing her routine and its a growth period but once she realizes that sisters are built in playmates every thing evens out and the three of them become thick as thieves.
although she doesn't partake in much of Illyrian culture she is fluent in both Illyrian and the common tongue.
she has this impervious, intimidating look about her that lets you know that she will tear you down before you can even blink so unless she talks to you or you have something relevant to discuss with her leave her alone. a no nonsense attitude.
she does not inherit any of Nesta's death magic (everyone assumes that since Nesta gave up the bulk of her death magic she wont pass it onto her children but we don't see until later that the cauldron works in mysterious ways). she does inherit some of Cassian’s killing power but ultimately it does not matter because her intelligence, wisdom, & ingenuity solve most of if not all of her problems. the fae are known for their crafty trickery after all.
the Valkyrie adopt a Pegasus calvary imported from an alliance with the Day Court.
Athena rides a female grey pegasi named Beruna into battle and her weapon of choice is a silver spear.
