Sun 2/16: Post about canon AroSpec characters
It's funny, or more like, really sad, that I hardly know any. The only one to really come to my mind so far is Jerome Jackson Trent from the webcomic Otherworldly.
Tumblr media
He is one of the changelings who enrolled in the program to find their birth parents (as far as I know, he hasn't yet). He is very clever, and also anxious, and his main challenge (also, as far as I know as I am somewhat behind) is that his neighbour slash old friend decided to uncover the truth behind supernatural people living amongst us. Jerome is aro ace, as confirmed by art drawn by the creator. His asexuality has already come up before the point where I'm at, but his aromantism hasn't.

For day 4 of the aromantic awareness week fandom challenge, I’m posting about grey-aromantic headcanons! I headcanon Ultra Magnus | Minimus Ambus as grey-aromantic! Though grey-aromantic isn’t referenced explicitly in the text, I touch on some of my thoughts on Magnus being grey-aro in they don’t write songs for you, which is a post-LL7 au fic, angst-with-a-happy-ending, with the happy ending being centered around found family.

Rating: Gen
Fandom(s): His Dark Materials (Books and TV)
Warning for spoilers for TV fans and/or those who haven’t read The Amber Spyglass
Summary:  Sometimes, it's good to look at things from another perspective. One might just learn something new about themselves, if they do - even people as in tune with themselves as Lee. Basically, a canon-divergence story after the events of His Dark Materials where Lee survives, adopts Lyra, and finds out he’s aromantic.
The main series (Tales of Tomorrow) focuses on Lee surviving the events of the trilogy (as in At the Edge of the Abyss) and short scenes into his life as follows where he adopts Lyra (Just North of Oxford). Most chapters in Just North of Oxford are simply one-shots, though some follow small narratives (such as Chapter 6, which is the premise of this particular story).
Happy Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week to everyone in and outside the HDM fandom!

ASAW Fandom Challenge - 2/20: Post about Demiromantic Headcanons
Let me tell you all about demiromantic Wedge Antilles!! This started out as “the only ‘major’ aspec identity I haven’t headcanoned someone with is demiromantic” and casting about for a target and finding Wedge, but it’s gained so much traction in my mind! In Legends canon, we only ever see Wedge involved in three serious relationships - Mala, Qwi, and Iella - and showing interest in a few others that don’t go very far. I like the idea that this is because Wedge has to make a solid emotional connection with someone before he starts feeling romantically attracted to them, and with the way he lives and how long that takes for him, this is hard to do. For a very long time, Mala was the only relationship he’d ever had, and he was fairly young. The Star Wars 2013 comic mentions him having feelings for a lady pilot who died at Yavin, and I can see this being devastating for him because he managed to develop those feelings only to lose her before he could even tell her. Then there’s Qwi. By the time he meets her, Wedge is aware it takes him a long time to fall for someone, even if he doesn’t quite understand why or have the word. But he likes her as a person, and he hopes those feelings will come with time. But they never do. He can’t force them. I’m very fond of the idea of their amicable breakup involving her gently calling him on this and asking about his experiences, asking if he’s ever heard of demiromanticism, and this being how he finds the explanation for how he’s always felt. And then of course, there’s Iella - his demiromanticism perfectly explaining why it took so very long for his feelings for her to come to fruition and the relationship to get off the ground.
You also get this passage from The Krytos Trap with some very validating factoids: ~Since the death of his parents when he was young, Wedge has given “little thought” to romance and relationships ~He’s found companionship with various women but never an actual partner ~He can’t explain why not
Sounds a like a good arospec boy without the vocab to describe his identity to me!

Mon 2/17: Recommend a fic featuring an Aro character (headcanoned or otherwise)
I am usually in fanfics for the shipping, so I haven’t really read any with aromantic protagonists. I haven’t written too many, either. I mean, Sherlock Holmes is always going to be aro in my fics, but it hasn’t been important to the stories in any way in the ones I’ve written. So the only one I really have is this Lone Ranger fic I wrote last year.
Uncle John
https://archiveofourown.org/works/20893127
I have written both John and Tonto as aromantic asexual and in a queerplatonic relationship, which is my personal favorite way of reading them. This is the part of the legend where they only just adopted Dan Reid (John’s nephew), and the three of them have to get used to each other. Because you can never have enough “superheroes randomly adopt children” stories. Also because I love seeing them as a family.
I have tried to write it in a way that you should be able to understand without knowing too much about the Lone Ranger mythos.

Caduceus Clay
Day 2 of the  AroSpec Awareness Week Fandom Challenge:
Mon 2/17: Recommend a fic featuring an Aro character (headcanoned or otherwise)
Ok so this is not a fic, but I headcanon Caduceus Clay from Critical Role as Aro (and Ace). Caduceus Clay is a firbolg cleric who worships The Wildmother. He was created and played by Taliesin Jaffe.
Cad is a sweet, gentle soul who worships nature and there is wonder in all he sees. He gives the best hugs, and is always around for a good chat or a shoulder to cry on.
I tried to do a little drawing of him :D
The GIF is from the opening sequence of Critical Role

For Day 3 of Aro-Spec Awareness Week’s Fandom Challenge, I’m posting about some Aromantic headcanons! I really enjoy the thought of aro Obi-Wan Kenobi and aro Luke Skywalker!
Luke Skywalker is an aro headcanon that I particularly love because he’s such a big-hearted character motivated so much by his love for his friends and family. Obi-Wan Kenobi has been an incredibly important character to me ever since I first got into Star Wars well over a decade ago, and as an aro person, reading and writing about him being aro means a lot.
I’ve written about aro Obi-Wan in More Than This, a fic centered on his relationship with being aro-ace over the course of his life, and I’ve written about aro Luke in Connections, a fic featuring aroace Luke and aroace-spec Rey.

ASAW Fandom Challenge Day 3 - Grey-Aromantic Headcanons I have two of these - one from a fandom I haven’t touched writing-wise in a long time but that I’m pretty stoked about!
Tycho Celchu (Star Wars Legends) - As I wrote in this fic, Tycho identifies as grayro - that’s what he would say if he was asked his orientation - but he’s also aroflux. He considers the microlabel less important since the romantic attraction he feels is so rare anyway. He’s only ever felt it twice - once for Nyiestra, which made losing her extra devastating since he was never sure he would be able to have that kind of relationship with someone again, and now for Wedge. He was very nervous to explain to Wedge that even though he feels romantic attraction for him, the level can vary from day to day - from Tycho feeling almost allo to being outright romance repulsed. He was so relieved and delighted, though, when Wedge was 100% ready to support him and do his own research to make sure he understood and quite simply returned his affections and decided wholeheartedly he wanted to give this relationship a try as well. Tycho is also sure to point that his identity as arospec is still very important to him regardless of currently feeling attraction and being in a relationship.
Marius Pontmercy (Les Miserables) - This one’s less developed, but I’m very into the idea of grayro Marius. I think this makes sense as to why he’s just so overcome when he falls for Cosette - he’s never felt this kind of attraction before. He’s never been in love. He’s been hearing his friends extol its virtues for years and wondered if it would ever happen to him, and now here it is, and it’s so strong. (He’s possibly arospike as well, though if it’s canon, he wouldn’t have these words.) Even Grantaire points out how unusual this show of feeling is - “Is Marius in love at last?”
