To me aromanticism is an orientation, a life philosophy, a political stance and a big fuck you to heteronormative and amatonormative society and I think that's beautiful! So shout-out to all aros, your experiences are worth sharing and your aromanticism should be celebrated!

DIY Pride Gear

In honor of Aromantic Spectrum Awareness week, I thought I’d make a list of some resources for making some DIY aro pride gear!

Aro Rings

For anyone who doesn’t already know, an aro ring is a white ring worn on the left hand middle finger, signifying that the wearer is on the aromantic spectrum.

If you want to make one yourself rather than buying online or searching through local stores trying to find a suitable ring, AUREA made a pretty detailed tutorial on how to make an aro ring, which I’ve linked below.

It’s also pretty simple to make rings out of polymer clay if you would prefer an easier method.

Pride Flag

This tutorial is for a rainbow flag, but if you would prefer to make an aromantic flag, you could just use the same method with different fabric colors. (Since the aro flag is a 5 stripe flag, you’d probably want the fabric strips to be around 20.4 cm wide by 150 cm long if you want to get close to the dimensions of the flag in the video).

Pins

Great if you want to make something cheap and easy with a pride flag on it, especially if you want to make something with one of the more obscure or complicated flags, since those can be harder to sew or buy.

Patches

Aroworlds is aro-specific and thus includes many different aro flags, but the tutorials in the two videos can also be easily done for pretty much any horizontal striped pride flag.

Some good news for my arospec followers from the US:

The state of Wisconsin has officially recognised this year's Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week!

This was the effort of Patrick Bex (fluentlyaspec), an aroace content creator who is from Wisconsin.

Aromantism an umbrella for romantic orientations that experience little or no romantic attraction.

Aro ≠ ace. You can be aromantic without being asexual and vice versa. Aro people also can have romantic relationships if they wish, but that's their business.

To be more aware of aro people, read about aro identities and experiences & be kind to your aro friends.

You know, I may be aromantic and aplatonic, but like. I do still want to be a person who people do grand dramatic gestures for. I like attention! Not having attraction doesn't mean I don't want attention and to feel appreciated and like a person worthy of doing big things for.

Which is to say that my FWB apparently went on Grindr and found another trans guy to sleep with, just so she could practice her skills and be better at sleeping with me. Literally did an entire hookup just so they could fuck me better.

It doesn't matter how aro you are. You can still find people who appreciate you that much. Love is not a requirement for dedication or effort on either side.

Anyway, that's my contribution to aro week. Giving you all proof that aro joy is real.
