The Top 25 Perfumes Of The 21st Century... So Far
Here we go... a list of the Top 25 best perfumes of the century so far. -- Are your favourites here?
As 2024 came to an end, many of you asked if I’d compile a rundown of the best perfumes of the decade so far. I found the idea appealing — as you know, I do love a list — but then it occurred to me that 2025 marks an even more significant milestone. So, in my tireless and unashamed pursuit of geekery, I decided to go one better and try to put together a list of the best perfumes released since…

These two perfumes would be interesting to include in fanfic about the relationship between France and Spain 😭

We all, as the history nerds we are (yes, I’m talking about me and you all dear readers), have thought about what did a moment in time long gone was like, what it looked like, what it sounded like, what was worn and where it happened. Well, someone went a step forward and asked himself what did a moment in a certain time and place smelt like. That man is Carlos Huber and he’s the founder of Arquiste, a perfume brand that create fragrances meticulously researched with historical sources to transport us to another time and place. Each fragrance has its own little story with historical setting and place; so you can find something inspired by and Aztec festival in the 15th century or a night in the Paris Opera in the late 19th century. Sounds awesome, don’t you think?
And it smells even better.
Here are two of my favourite fragrances by Arquiste, both inspired by the wedding of Louis XIV and the Infanta Maria Teresa, and since we’re in a 17th century mood, I thought this was the time to share this with you all (this sounds like a commercial but it is not, this perfumes are just so so SO good that I wish everyone knew about this brand). Imagine this:
It’s June 1660, you are at the Isle of Pheasants in the Basque region of the French-Spanish border. Spain was France’s political enemy, so this marriage would give a new balance of power in Europe. Both royal courts are in a pavilion built for this occasion of pine and cedar wood.
On the French side is a 22-year-old Louis XIV, dubbed the ‘sweetest smelling monarch’, he had a never ending love for orange blossom (he imported a thousand orange trees from Spain and made the largest orangerie) and even had his own fragrance called Acqua Angeli, there he is all starchy and elegantly dressed and totally missing the protocol he presented himself to catch a glimpse of his new bride. His fragrance, Fleur de Louis, has notes of orange blossom, Florentine iris, Jasmine, Rose and cedarwood.
On the Spanish side is the also 22-year-old Infanta Maria Teresa, the Spanish Princess represents the peace between the two nations, perfumed with orange flower water (a quite clean and innocent scent), the rouge smells of roses, the Spanish perfumed leather gloves and the scented fan are there while Louis lays his eyes on her for the first time. Her fragrance, Infanta en Flor, has notes of Orange flower water, Spanish leather, cistus resin and immortelle.
Images from top:
“Portrait of Louis XIV”, 1661, Charles le Brun.
“The infanta Maria Theresa of Spain”, 1653, Diego Velázquez.
Fragrance Fleur de Louis, Arquiste, developed with Rodrigo Flores-Roux.
Fragrance Infanta en Flor, Arquiste, developed with Yann Vasnier.
Fleur de Louis main notes: orange blossom, Florentine iris and jasmine.
Infanta en Flor main notes: Spanish leather (17th century Spanish leather gloves, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston), cistus resin, immortelle.
George Blagden as Louis XIV in Versailles, 2015.
Elisa Lasowski as Marie-Thérèse in Versailles, 2015.
So, if you go to a store that carries this brand (here in Mexico you can only find it at El Palacio de Hierro Polanco), check it out and try one of their perfumes all are genderless, you’ll not be sorry (actually I wear Fleur de Louis, after a LONG time for deciding which one I liked better). Or you can simply go to their website and read about all their fragrances and scented candles (there’s one about a Japanese ship traveling from the New Spain, imagine what that smells like. Hint: strong and delicious.)

hello Genius. i’m looking for a gift for my lovely gentle sweetest in the world boyfriend. he loves earl grey - do u have any earl grey frag recs? or even something cinnamon-y but masculine ily tysm
omg hii i’ve been thinking about this for weeks! i’ve yet to find a earl grey frag but here are my favorite unisex and masculine tea scents 👅 🫖

lutens five o clock au gingembre and l’artisan tea for two are two tea classics.. both are spiced honeyed teas with the lutens feeling more golden and spice centric and the l’artisan feeling more smooth and milky with a tobacco base.
russian tea is probably the best men’s tea scent in the past ten years, it’s cold black tea and leather blushed by a little raspberry
l’ombre des merveilles is a unique cold amber centered on tea and frankincense
sideris is like thick beeswax and frankincense and tea.
i recently tried arquiste indigo smoke because of the lapsang souchong note but unfortunately it has the thin watery fresh tea note that i really don’t vibe with. i had the same critique for dear polly from vilhelm when i first tried it. a lot of cheaper tea frags center that type of tea note, which smells nothing like real tea BTW, which is why my picks (except for the hermes which goes for less expensive online) are very affluent very expensive very lucky scent 😌☺️

DATV Characters and (mostly) Niche Perfumes
I have a long daily commute which gives me a lot of time to think (when I'm not reading, that is). I love perfume. I am currently all about Veilguard. Ergo, I'm making some of my hobbies collide. Please indulge me.
Methodology is fairly simple:
I must own a full size or a tester of the perfume, therefore am very familiar with it, and
Going with my gut feeling and ignoring whatever the creator/house says the scent evokes
Obviously, this is only my interpretation, either from playing the game or the head canons I have created for my own Rooks. But I'd be really interested in whether others have also thought about this (I'm thinking this is way too niche - no pun intended - but still).
Rook
F!Rook | Frederic Malle - Carnal Flower M!Rook | Carine Roitfeld - Kar-Wai N/B!Rook | Fugazzi - Orange Crush
Companions
Bellara | Arielle Shoshana - Monday Davrin | Imaginary Authors - The Cobra & The Canary (bonus: Assan | Serge Lutens - Muscs Koublaï Khän) Emmrich | Penhaligon's - Halfeti (bonus: Manfred | Zoologist - Squid) Harding | Olympic Orchids - Night Flyer Lucanis | Arquiste - Nanban (bonus: Spite | Gucci - A Midnight Stroll) Neve | Frederic Malle - Portrait of a Lady Taash | Histoires de Parfums - 1740
Other Major Characters
Elgar'nan | DS & Durga - Vio-Volta Teia | Carine Roitfeld - Aurelien Viago | Etat Libre d'Orange - Spice Must Flow Vorgoth | Wilhelm Parfumes - Smoke Show Myrna | Juliette Has A Gun - Into the Void Strife | d'Annam - Through the Forest
And the rest (I haven't yet found a scent that fits the following)
Ghilan'nain Antoine Evka Solas Varric (maybe Kouros) Morrigan Irelin Illario (I really want to assign him something really loud and obnoxious like an Axe or Drakkar Noir or Kouros, but I don't own the first two and I refuse to associate Illario with a scent I remember fondly haha) Caterina Asher/The Viper Tarquin

so earlier this morning i listened to a podcast and it talked about the perfume tradition in France. Apparently there's this kind of perfume which "scent to be so delicious that people would want to eat it", and the inspiration is not drawn from flowers, but the scent of "french childhood breakfast drinking hot chocolate"
the "scent being delicious" part sounds like good fanfic material 🥴 but then the inspiration popped up and now i just think it's sweet and wholesome
(random information drop 🤓☝️i kinda just want you to know this so feel free to share thoughts or sth)
oh and the name of the perfume is "Angel" :p
Ohhhh, I also like to learn about this topic, haha sometimes I buy and use perfume <3
I have a passion for hot chocolate and chocolate desserts, and your description of the scent makes me very curious. They sound soooo delicious, I also headcanon France really like chocolate in general 😋
Very random but... there are two perfumes inspired by King Louis XIV and Queen Maria Teresa from the brand named ARQUISTE, I think you will want to check them 🥰

hello! long time no see 👋👋 i don't even think any of you still remember me after the abrupt inactivity so i'll be doing a short reintroduction—this is fei (or sua, where i bear more of the recognition), who previously handled the blog under the name arquistes/reverphic. this is a somewhat long psa that describes my situation and future endeavors that will clarify my inactivity for past months(?)
first and foremost, the cause behind the prolonged vacancy on this blog (or the lack of uploads, if you may) is due to—regrettably—my loss of interest in the world of hoyoverse :( the dwindling engrossment for the fandom has been staving me off from persevere with finishing my works, to the extent that i haven't been able to continue any of them for weeks.
my personal life has been perpetually adding things up on my plate, in a both good and bad way. i have been taking my time off tumblr and relish in the river banks of life, it dawned upon me that upon doing so i was able to discern that there's so much more to me than just wilt in my desk and thrumming my fingers on my keyboard. too complex? well, life has been keeping me busy and i absolutely LOVE it.
the true fate of vigiries remains inconclusive as of now; i thought about deactivating but doing so means i will discard all of my progress as a hoyoverse fanfiction author in tumblr and i don't want that. so, for now, this blog will undergo indefinite inactivity and will lack in interactions and uploads (or no uploads at all!)
i wouldn't say that this is a goodbye, it is more likened to a "see you soon"... except i'm not sure it's actually a see you soon... nevertheless, i want to thank every single one of you in advance for the endless support you have given me throughout my journey as an amateur author writing for the hoyoverse fandom 🧡 you'll always remain in my heart. take care, see you soon!

hello fellow followers, if you have seen my previous announcement i'm pretty sure this post will ring a bell — yes, i am moving blogs. arquistes has been through a lot of posted posts ever since its hatching, so i suppose it's time for this page to rest and have another one as its replacement. from now own, this page is archived. feel free to follow @iuzas, my new blog if you're still in for my works !

I'm calling it: Arquist Proft is the killer.
He is so eager to explain the symbolism of the murder scene, but doesn't even mention any of the discrepancies. Like the fact everyone heard a scream but Zegana had clearly been dead much longer, if the killer had the time to pose her like that. He also just totally brushes past the fact that the black iris symbolizes the Simic Combine in this instance. Like...how? What is the connection? Were you worried that no one else would get it?
Plus, if his invisible ink card is any indication, he's a massive egotist.

△ what scent are you wearing right now?
0/10
peau arquiste. i just got it in the mail, it's a surprisingly nice masculine scent. i am someone who prefers a gourmand, but this one was a blind purchase and i am quite happy with it.
