I step out of my cabin, my boots sinking into the thick moss, and I adjust my bowtie. My friends and I take each others hands and start walking towards the center of camp

The sky is ablaze of the setting sun, coating everything in honey light. Sticky from the fading summer heat, rich from the buzzing of insects

Long strings of fairy lights trail from tree to tree. We meet up with others from the two other cabins. Long skirts brushing the grass, puffy sleeves bouncing, coat tails fluttering

The air is alive with music, I can feel it in the ground. People have already begun to dance

We dance long into the night, until the sky is a dark blue sea above us, until fireflies rise from the long grass. Shedding their soft light on our last night together

The sky is crying today. Heh-it would be fun if I didn’t feel the same way.

wild ones

i met a wild one, once. 

we crossed paths at the forest’s edge. i’d wandered from the trail, tripped over a gnarled root, and cried out like a lost fawn. 

after all, i’d been a child, curious to the point of stupidity. i’d thought myself invincible, the way all of us do at such an age. only after the world itself had pulled the rug out did I even think to feel fear. 

and that was when she found me. she was tall and thin, maybe a couple years older than i had been. she wore a ragged old dress, woven together by moonlight and petalthread. her blonde hair was pulled back in a braid. 

we talked about constellations and coniferous trees. she pressed a poultice to my swollen ankle. we talked about our homes. she told me about the shadow mothers. 

 i went home grateful. grateful for the help. grateful i had a home to go to. and grateful she had one, too. not one that i would know, but a home all the same. i’m grateful she’d be found.

first day outfit at a new school✨🌙

i did have a white dress with me but i forgot to bring a belt, so i put this on. in true dcd fashion, i’m wearing my “protect our oceans” tshirt with my big girl boots. to tie it all together, my favorite jacket (?) that i got for my birthday this year

question: if you caught me waltzing through campus, how gay would you think i am?

A stair in the woods

overgrown with moss and ferns

strange lights blink softly in the damp air

something moves in the trees around it, watching

waiting

the three eyed deer steps into the clearing

the third eye trained on the staircase

waiting

then a child crashes through the underbrush

dirt on face and stick in hand

the deer lops off into the wood, startled

they climb onto the first step

waiting

a shadow materializes at the top of the stair

tall, thin, vaguely human-like

it reaches down with it’s long arms and lifts the child onto its back

the child laughs as the shadow swiftly carries it though the forest
