I’m just asking for us to be more honest with ourselves. To think about why these issues are happening. And to not be so reactionary; to be responsive, and to be critical.

Quotes from The Comfort Book - Matt Haig
- Love is not something you deserve only if you reach a goal.
- It’s okay to be the teacup with a chip in it. That’s the one with a story.
- The hardest question I have ever been asked is: “How do I stay alive for other people if I have no one?” The answer is that you stay alive for other versions of you. For the people you will meet, yes, sure, but also the people you will be.
- At our lowest we find the solid ground of our foundation. And we can build ourselves anew.
- Writing, then, is a kind of seeing. A way to see your insecurities more clearly. A way to shine a light on doubts and dreams and realize what they are actually about.
- Hope isn’t the same things as happiness. You don’t need to be happy to be hopeful.
- I have had moments of pain so strong I wanted everything to end. But standing back, they’re just shadows accentuating light.
- Of course, it is humiliating trying to learn anything side-by-side with an eleven- and twelve-years-old. It is like trying to learn to swim beside a sailfish. But it was great to make progress, to actually play, and to realize that there is no cut-off age for development.
- As Ayishat Akanbi put it, “If you’ve decided your healing is dependent on other people acknowledging their faults you’ll still be waiting in your grave.”
- Nothing is stronger than a small hope that doesn’t give up.

“To stop talking with people you disagree with is one thing, but it’s crassly egocentric, immature and overbearing to demand other people to dissociate from everyone you dislike.” —Ayishat Akanbi
I love this quote. I feel it’s important in today’s world where we are cancelling people left and right. It’s becoming more common to see in media, not only someone being cancelled, (even sometimes, rightfully so) but also their friends, family, coworkers, and lovers for not disowning them, or for simply not “speaking out” against them in a way that is appeasing to the public. It’s ridiculous to think of artists who are barely adults being cancelled for the occasional verbal mistake, or for even simply associating in any way with someone who may have already been “cancelled.” Of course, this quote goes for situations outside of mainstream media as well.

'Problematic' is often a word people use when they can't articulate why they are uncomfortable with different perspectives but want to sound smart nonetheless.
