hi!!! so recently I’ve gained a big interest in building up my collection of patches to put onto my clothes and stuff in my journey to becoming more queerly punk in my presentation. my biggest goal is to make other more marginalized people in my community feel safe around me. so I’m looking into a lot of patches for BLM, stop asian hate, punch nazis, disability advocacy, etc.

I came across a bunch of patches symbolizing the BPP, and I’d really like to get one, but I do worry that that would be inappropriate in a way as a white person. I am autistic and struggle a lot to understand what is and isn’t appropriate to do/say in attempts at support and allyship, so I figured I’d ask.

my reasoning is that even though I’m not Black, the BPP is my biggest inspiration as a young activist looking to dedicate my life to racial and other forms of Justice. Their work, their platform, their impact, truly transformed my political conscience, but I know that I do not want to make the Black Power movement and the BPP centered around me, but at the same time I want to express how much they mean to me and how much they have influenced my ideas for activism if that makes sense.

it may seem like I am making a big deal over one patch or piece of clothing, this stuff is just so foundational to who I am and what I believe so I tend to be a bit seemingly dramatic about it.

anyways, I’m not here to ask you definitively yes or no if it would be appropriate of me to wear a BPP patch, I don’t want to tokenize your existence or work. But you know so much about the BPP and the history of the Black Power Movement that I really trust anything you have to say on the matter of the line between showing allyship, and centering history that’s not about me, around me. so if you’re up for answering, I’d love your personal perspective on white people using BPP symbolism to show allyship and if there’s any historical examples of why that would be good OR bad.

because i'm aware you hold a deep respect for the BPP, i honestly think it's fine that you have a BPP patch, so long as you understand that history. the BPP were pretty accepting of folks of all races, as shown through their acceptance of non-Black members/partners and serving non-Black communities. a few chapters still exist today around the country (i got to meet a few from the Louisiana chapter, some moved over from California) and they openly teach anyone that's willing to listen! it's just that their focus is on how Black people specifically are affected by systemic oppression and how we can liberate ourselves from such.

i would refrain from wearing any full regalia though, as this would definitely come off as appropriation. respect and admiration are not the same as a full understanding of the struggle! BPP was about far more than just putting on a specific outfit or throwing up a couple symbols. it was a lifelong commitment, even after you technically left. there was real, heavy trauma associated with one's membership, especially those higher up in leadership. i remember reading elaine brown's autobiography, how she felt herself becoming more violent, having folks beat to a bloody pulp right in front of her eyes. folks frequently had to live in fear that they or their partners would be killed as well. that changes a person, and so do the years spent in jail by so many of the party's members. there was ongoing abuse, misogyny, power struggles and more. it definitely wasn't all sunshine and rainbows.

Hyundai Motor UK has announced the pricing and specification of IONIQ 5, the first car in the new IONIQ brand and the first Hyundai built on a new dedicated Electric-Global Modular Platform.

IONIQ 5’s design explores a new design freedom offered by a dedicated BEV platform and mirrors the design of the 45 concept first seen at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. The 45 concept was in itself inspired by the original Hyundai Pony Coupe Concept from 1974. The IONIQ 5 highlights Hyundai’s 45-year journey to become a part of customer’s lifestyles, creating a common thread from past to present and future.

The IONIQ 5 is built upon Hyundai Motor Group’s dedicated battery electric vehicle architecture called Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), enabling it to have unique proportions on an elongated wheelbase. With E-GMP, IONIQ 5 offers innovative interior design with eco-friendly materials in many touchpoints; strong performance mated with ultra-fast charging, a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function as well as advanced connectivity and driver assistance features that will offer the ultimate in-car experience while ensuring a high level of safety.

E-GMP provides IONIQ 5 flexibility in powertrain options, with customers having the choice of 4 battery and drive types; a 58kWh rear wheel drive with a combined range of up to 240 miles1, a 73kWh rear wheel drive with a combined range of up to 300 miles1, or a 73kWh all-wheel drive with a range of up to 287 miles1. IONIQ 5 features 800V charging as standard, which when combined with a 350kW ultra-rapid charger will provide 80% charge in just 18 minutes and 100km of driving range in 5 minutes. The system also supports both domestic wall box charging and mainstream public 400V high speed charging, using the motor and the inverter to convert the voltage from 400V to 800V for optimized charge times whenever possible.

IONIQ 5 will be available in 3 specification levels, SE Connect, Premium, Ultimate, which join the comprehensively equipped special launch edition Project 45.

Starting from £36,995, the IONIQ 5 SE Connect 58 kWh rear wheel drive delivers on Hyundai’s renowned comprehensive standard specification levels and includes 19” alloy wheels, cloth upholstery, produced using naturally derived polyester resin, driver and front passenger seat height adjustment, sliding rear seat adjustment, interior mood lighting, 12.3” LCD audio, visual and navigation system with DAB, Apple Car Play™ and Android Auto™, LCD drivers instrument cluster, wireless phone charging for compatible devices, rear view camera, LED Multi-Faceted Reflector headlamps, LED stop, tail and turn lamps, rear parking sensors, electric parking brake, Navigation based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC) is standard, which will automatically adjust speed to stay within the speed limit and also automatically adjust speed to cater for road layout., Highway Drive Assist (HDA), Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA), Lane Keep Assist with Lane Following Assist (LKAS + LFA), Driver Attention Alert and frunk storage under the signature clamshell bonnet.

Available from £39,295, the IONIQ 5 Premium 58kWh rear wheel drive builds on the SE Connect trim by adding a 4 way power driver’s seat, heated driver and front passenger seats and steering wheel, auto dimming rear view mirror, dual LED projector headlamps, power tailgate, chrome side molding, Highway Drive Assist Level 2 (HDA II) with automatic lane change function, Forward Collision Assist with Junction function (FCA JX) and Blindspot Collision Avoidance assist (BCA). Premium trim also offers customers the optional Vehicle 2 Load pack (V2L). The V2L function allows customers to freely use or charge any electric devices, suppling up to 3.6 kW of power. Using a converter, customers can charge high-power electric equipment, consumer electronics or even charge another electric vehicle. The IONIQ 5 Premium is also available with the 73kWh battery in rear wheel and all- wheel drive.

The IONIQ 5 Ultimate 58kWh rear wheel drive completes the IONIQ range with a high specification including leather seat coverings, solar and privacy glass, chrome door garnish, black gloss beltline, electrically adjustable and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, BOSE premium sound system, head up display with augmented reality, standard Vehicle 2 Load (V2L), sliding center console and alloy pedals. Customers can also specify the Eco Pack which comprises Battery Heating system and Heat Pump and the Tech Pack with Front Memory Seats, Relaxation Premium Seats, BVM (Blind View Monitor), PCA ( Parking Collision Avoidance Assist - Reverse), RSPA (Remote Smart Parking Assist), SVM ( Surround View Monitor). When did you join the IT fandom? And what got you into fandom, to begin with?

Actually 23 years ago (haha I am old XD) When I was eleven I saw the miniseries with my cousins for the first time. The horror factor wasn't that important to me or maybe I didn't see it that way. It was more like an adventure story with an unfunny and nasty clown. A group of friends who had to endure an adventure. In any case, it entertained me well, even if I was not aware of some elements like that it’s a story about growing up, friendship, love and all these issues around becoming an adult XDD Then with 13 I read the book. It was a  new experience, and I loved every single word. Over the years I talked with friends and Kingsianer (XD) about it and read it for a second and a third time. At this point I could start a list with things I don’t like about the movies, but I’d rather mention on thing I really appreciate about them: they are a good opportunity for a new generation to explore this universe. Every adaption like the book itself is a reflection of a specific decade and what is more yeah… immortal, universal and diverse than a story about growing up. It was a discussion with a dear friend about book to movie adaptions some weeks ago that probably brought me back to this fandom

Nevertheless there are things from the book I would have loved to see in the movies. Let’s be honest at this point if you want to adapt such a brick of a book you simply have to cut some elements. You can’t please everyone

What are your favorite ships, or characters, if any, and why? What do they mean to you?

Ships:

Stanpat - orz q__q they are such a sweet couple and it is so heartbreaking, they never ever had a real chance to become parents. They would have been excellent parents. Imagine them on a beautiful summer day. They have a picnic with their children and Stan would watch birds with them. He would tell them all about the birds and keeps a journal about their observations with his kids

Reddie - Despite the constant teasing their realtionship seems like a natural, casual und easy thing from the start. And Eddie likes the nicknames. These secret names are like another identity. He can be someone else. They take care of each other. Their relationship is a deeper friendship that runs mostly on an emotional level and is sometimes expressed through small, physical gestures. The chemistry between them is indescribable. It is cute when 90s Eddie immediately starts to giggle as soon as Richie makes a dumb joke at their reunion. And thing about the little moments when Richie pokes Eddie and calls him cute. I am won’t quoting this one passage in the book that leaves much room for speculations, but there is no doubt their special bond is official. In any case, the decision to make Richie gay in the movies gave the ship another push. I don’t complain. I love it. Though I still think Eddie would have been a better option. There are already some scenes in the book which are like an invitation to speculate about his sexualityTheir chemistry is very obvious and believe me, there is nothing I would more appreciate than a happy end for them Q__Q

This is one of sweetest things I have ever read in a book and that is all I need to explain why I love this ship.

Fav, Characters:  Hmm when I read „IT“ for the first time I had a crush on Bill. He ist the born leader and in my childish, pre-teen way found his stuttering cute. There is something about him that cast a spell on you. It is perfectly understandable that he was a role model and an inspiration for his friends – especially for Eddie. In my personal opinion book!Bill ist the best Bill.

Richie - I love this chaotic megane dude. He is this silly type who use jokes, pranks to protect himself. His voices are like safe heaven (the same goes for Bill, whose stuttering almost disappears, when he pretends tob e someone else). He hides himself and his insecurities behind them. It is a shame that he doesn’t know what an impact he had on his friends. Richie seems to never ever shut up and sometimes his trashmouth is still talking, when he better should be quite. And I am famous to fall for funny characters. He can lights up the mood immediately ( and OMG…. I love Harry Anderson in the miniseries. A real entertainer, BUT BILL HADER…. Bill Hader…just to make it clear BILL HADER  did such an amazing job. He rocked the movie and I still think, not just because I love this dude since over a decade, without him… the movie wouldn’t  have been so entertaining)

Eddie - He is in these abusive relationships. First with his mother, who keeps him small and makes him believe that he is weak. At the end her own fears of beeing left behind prevented her son from becoming a self-confident adult. Eddie always thought he is weak and fragile. Although he knows that he doesn’t need all this medication, his childhood experience were the reason for his coping-behavior as an adult – he still uses his inhaler. He married a woman who is like his mother. Mike's call was something of a turning point. Until this call Eddie could not overcome his fears and had to face them again as an adult. I can remember. While reading the book there were several moments of silence and I stopped reading and thought: poor Eddie.

Ultimately, his story is about a hero who surpasses himself, overcomes his fears and by sacrifice himself he protects what is most important to him - his friends. It just touched me. Eddie gave his life for his friends and I think you can say he's my favorite character. His death may be a tragedy, but it was necessary for his character arc. My theory is that Eddie represents someone who has lost track in his life and prefer to stick on old but unhealthy patterns.It is almost like Eddie stands for missed opportunities, but at the same time it is never to late to change something. He is a hero. There are so many things I would like to talk about, therefore I should start an own thread XDDD

Oh and Bev - I could always identify with her (not bc of abuse or domestic violence. My childhood was amazing). She is the only girl around the losers and I was the only girl in my  favourite clique too. We spent most of our time outside  - it was great. Of course I had other friends (female) as well, but with my boys… it was always special).. As you know as an adult she falls back in old patterns. Her husband is tyrannical man like her father. Again Mike’s call is a turning point.  Maybe the Benverly arc is the most satisfying. I was… I am very happy that Bev got her happy end.

Last but no least - I like Ben, Mike and Stan too. They have all there unique character treats and you sympathize with all of them. The Loser’s club is bunch of adorable idiots who just doing their best to become adults. I think it is normal that their friendship feels more intimate in the book – I highly recommand the book.

Oh… unfortunately I am not feelin‘ very confident about my own artworks. Sometims I have the feeling I am not creative enough and that my ideas are more or less boring. Nothing special ID Totally dumb – I know. As I mentioned before I came back lately to the fandom… I guess I missed many amazing IT weeks. I participated in some weeks/mainly shipweeks in other fandoms (Yakuza/Ryu ga Gotoku, FFXV) If I find an interesting annoucement I can imagine to participate in the future ; )

In general… the fandom is really friendly – I hope so. Lately I have seen some salty comments on different stuff, topics… and well.. I have just an advice: life can be exhausting enough and time is always running. Don’t spend time on things you don’t like. Discussions can esclate quickly and worde can hurt too. So, just thing about before you jump in.

 HI!! since you asked before sending it, I knew this was coming but my First Cool Guy Tumblr Ask is so neat,, anyway!!

This is my only IT-specific account, but I post almost everything I draw on my instagram, https://www.instagram.com/fabricsofteners/ (I don't know how people make links cool on tumblr aaa) I also have an AO3, https://archiveofourown.org/users/tangledheadphonecord , where I might post this one really long fic I’m working on (maybe not, as it’s super lame but God am I putting in work)? But mostly it’s just really old stuff atm, and no IT content right now - just some random drabbles from past hyperfixations tbh.

I used to be ‘fabricsofteners’ everywhere besides here - tangledheadphonecord is a username I used for my tumblr because I want a change from the fabricsofteners brand, as I've had it for quite a few years and have just grown kind of bored - just waiting a bit to change my instagram user. I also used to be ‘unbrandedmarkers’ like, three years ago on instagram? but, that era ended fast. I think I might have an old Tumblr under some variation of ‘fabric softener’ but honestly even if anything is up on it I’d probably be embarassed to look at it now.

I watched IT for the first time in 2019, I believe, but wasn’t really in the fandom until actually like, April of this year. I entered the fandom and developed a hyperfixation (sobs) by complete mistake - I read all the fics for michael mell/rich goranski on ao3, and was on a camping trip and wanted to read some Homosexual Fanfiction and literally remembered IT on a whim (rich-to-richie association) and read a bunch of Reddie fics, and it was all down (up?) hill from there.

Unshockingly, I’m sure, Reddie is my number one favourite IT ship. I’m also an enjoyer of Benverly, as well as Stanley/Patty - IT is like, the only fandom where I actually like the canon ships. I do also think Streddie/Stozier is really cute and Bill/Mike (unsure of the shipname?) is nice when I see it!! I think Reddis is cute because I am a total sucker for best-friends-to-lovers, as well asthe  ‘I tease everyone but mostly you’ and the ‘I’m so tired of you bullying me but if you ever stop I’ll cry’ and... just, the entire dynamic that they have. Stanley/Patty - there is no reasoning, I just want Stanley to be happy. Benverly - the way they were each other’s first Meaningful Interactions in so like?? agony, they’re so cute. They both deserve to be happy, and I’m so happy they find that happiness in each other. 

As for characters - Richie is absolutely my favourite. I (unfortunately /hj) kin and relate to him on so many levels it hurts. Having a character that feels that fear of their sexuality because of a horrible environment is painfully real. covering up struggles with humour and all that?? yeah, mood (also, crushing on your best friend-). What he means to me, in a sense, isn’t really canon - I read strictly fix-it fics, because I want to feel that hope that like fanon Richie, I don’t have to hide forever. I can be myself and be happy. Obviously I can’t much look to the movies or anything for that but hey - what’re Andy or Stephen gonna do, tell me to stop reading fics? 

I also really like Stanley!! I don’t,, have a reason. I just think he’s adorable and I love his dynamic with the other Losers a lot. Stanley breathed like, once, and instantly became a comfort character and not even I know why at this point, he just is. Eddie & Bev are up there, too - honestly, Bill is the only Loser I don’t have a strong attachment too. And honestly, he’s growing on me rapidly.

I mostly draw whatever my goblin hyperfixated brain can think of, as well as rebloging just about every post that I see and like (art, jokes, edits, fics, etc.) - I start and stop a lot of fics, maybe one day I’ll finish one but as of yet I have not... Sigh.

I honestly don’t think I do have anyone to tag for inspiration? I follow IT blogs but none I would go to for inspiration (no offense to any mutuals-) inspiration for me is mostly just seeing a pose and going ‘okay’ and suddenly I have a drawing - I have no clue what happens in between.

Actually not Reddie, I throughly enjoyed https://archiveofourown.org/works/23201011 for giving me the Mike content the movies have robbed me of for too long, as well as https://archiveofourown.org/works/25262698 which is pure stanlon greatness and made my heart flutter for the boys more than once.

I don’t really have any IT fics up of my own creation, and honestly my reception in way of Tumblr notes is far better than I expected so honestly, I have none to link lol. As long as I get minimun interaction I will thrive.

I wish I could say I’ve been in anything like a zine or anything, but I have not! I’m relatively new to the fandom (and having a social media dedicated to one thing) so I wouldn’t even know where to begin to join or be qualified for one, y’know? I’ve done art weeks in the past and found them incredibly fun but haven’t seen any for IT - but if anyone does happen to know of any... Feel free to send them my way-

As for the last question - other than like, hyping up Chosen and Jeremy just as much as we do the other IT kids (which, honestly I’m not even sure if is still a problem - I’ve just seen posts about it and it’s made me wary), I’m not sure? I’ve honestly not encountered anything in the fandom I find awful and honestly, for a fandom about a movie that is... Well, IT, I’ve really just kind of enjoyed my time in the fandom thus far?

(I will say we need 200% more attention being drawn to 1990s adult Eddie Kaspbrak, who is one of the most beautiful men I have ever seen - but I also feel that way about James Ransone, so I’m not mad.)

(Also, we should be calling out the 1990s IT more, I watched it recently and it’s so bad /lh)

As a wee child I have always loved music. Being a musical mistress doesn’t mean I sing, nor does it mean I play an instrument. If I were to sing, everyone would want to put in ear plugs, dive under water and start up a chainsaw.  This is the safest way to attempt listening to the horrific sounds of my singing straight up Mermaid Style.  So in fact, I didn’t want to be a singer, nor part of the band ( except when I was 8 and wanted to be drummer). 

I was and still am to this day a professional listener. HOW the hell can I call myself a professional? Well I can’t. I can make up any title I feel, let’s be honest, but this is the best way to describe the passion that burns in my body.  

When I listen to a song, it’s not on to fill the silence in the air. I listen to feel that shit in my soul. I listen to hear the gratifying guitar, the broad bellowing sounds of the bass, and of course the dynamic drums, being pounded with precision and perfection. I then listen to the lyrics. I recite them, tasting each syllable of every word. Lyrics are used to express emotions, or tell a story.

Drinking Frans, these fellas do not disappoint!  

Atoms to Ashes started back in 2013 and are from our fave neighboring country of Canada Eh. They have a killer rock sound that has reminds me of 10 years with a nice mix of Blackstone Cherry. The song Not Gonna Break gives you that sense of empowerment. It makes you want to kick some ass, take names, and let out your inner badass. 

As a WOah-man, human, and just listener, this song is a reminder to stand your fucking ground, and take control of your own life.

“So, was there a specific incident that inspired this track? Scorned lovers, bad bosses, the whole 2020 life experience? (Mind you this track came out in 2017, and I am trying to be funny and me explaining that makes it alllllllllllllll so much less funny).

Okay, so here’s a really long post in which I screenshot a bunch of reddie content from the novel, and I think I got most of it. Sorry this took so long, but rereading IT had me super emotional, it was hard to get through.  Also, @eddiekasp I would have added this onto your original post, but it’s super long, and you mentioned a lot of this, so I’m just gonna tag you! Some of this is likely way over-analyzed, but enjoy anyway:

Okay, so, hanging out above the garage, telling Eddie about his dreams, Eddie supporting him and admiring him even if Richie’s skills are clearly not developed yet, and Eddies sorta-pov using the words “enchanting” and “charm” to describe Richie.

More like “Oh my god, he’s gorgeous, oh, shit, Bill’s looking, what the fuck am I doing, it’s just Richie...”

Not that Richie wouldn’t have stepped forward to admit that he helped with the dam, but I find it intriguing that he does this right after watching Eddie squirm, standing next to him and trying to think of a way to talk them out of trouble. It comes off as something protective, specifically toward Eddie to me.

Antsy over Eddie potentially getting in trouble and defensively blurting shit to take the attention off of him? Maybe.

Do I even have to say anything about this one?

Eddie’s adorable, and I feel like it’s not coincidental that they all start gushing over how much they love each other after Richie and Eddie bicker a little bit. _

Okay, again, I might be over-analyzing, but there’s definitely some symbolism about love in Richie and Eddie sitting at the top step, Ben standing alone, at the bottom, pining after Bev, and Bill and Bev holding hands down the street a bit, about to cheat on their spouses with each other.  _

Right. So, there’s that.  Not to mention, they immediately start talking about religion and how strange it is after this, and the things that are considered unacceptable, which also contains another of Eddie’s heavily gay-coded moments.  _

Or: Richie -is protective of Eddie- Bill -is protective of Eddie- Eddie -man, Bill’s pretty and I would die for him.- Richie -HEY- _

After Eddie’s shouting and wailing on the giant eyeball gave Richie the courage to face his fear. It’s incredibly sweet. _

Like, they’re just so close in every sense of the word, and so... in love, tbh. How comfortable they become around each other again as adults, when they remember each other, seriously makes me livid over Eddie’s death. Like It already took one man from a happily out and gay couple at the beginning of the novel, wouldn’t it have brought this shit full-circle in a much better way if after killing It, Richie and Eddie could triumphantly live their truth together? I mean, I’m not usually one to complain about tragic themes, but boy am I devastated.  (NOT TO MENTION, each of them is pretty queer-coded, but honestly, there’s a little something to suggest that probably none of the Losers are completely straight. Eddie especially. (I’d maybe give examples of that on request, but it would include having to find every time Eddie’s terrified of his orientation and sexuality, and every time someone calls him a name, and I’d cry, so maybe not.) I REFUSE to screenshot Eddie’s death, but Richie takes it the hardest, and it’s just about the most heartbreaking thing in the whole book. Richie goes on about some of the misfortune he goes through as an adult, romantically speaking, Eddie’s in a pretty bad marriage, I’m so convinced that he and Eddie could have made each other so happy, and that’s what they deserve, dammit.  Anyway, that’s all I got! I could have gushed over each of these for longer, but this is already such a long post I wanted to simplify it a bit. Again, sorry this took so long! Thanks for waiting!

Gaussin Develops Next-Gen Skateboard Truck Platform

Gaussin, a French maker that currently is understood for all-electric “shifters”, revealed that its upcoming next-generation skateboard roadway truck platform will be powered by Microvast batteries.
