So this year’s The Poeming challenge is BYOP - Bring Your Own Poeming. In previous years each October was a horror (or horror / spooky / adjacent) author and everyone would get a book. This year you can bring your own text.

I’ve been debating what I wanted to do. Poe? Stephen King since I missed that year? Something else? There was one text I wanted - for the name and for the possibility. And I think I’m actually gonna do it.

I still need to create the Tumblr page before I begin, but I’m gonna use the contents of Letters to the Pumpkin King by @seananmcguire

There’s essays I can do blackouts from, there’s poems I can remix, and I’m excited to take on this challenge. It may not be entirely spooky, but it’s a poem a day in October. An ode to the Halloween Girl herself.

'Worship The Whip' by Be Your Own Pet

A band I followed around religiously in the aughts, my own Grateful Dead, have finally returned after an unintentional 15 year hiatus. The fallouts have flamed out; bridges have been mended. Now older and wiser, but no less angry, the Jack White-annointed Nashville quartet are picking up right where they left off with Mommy, an 11-track reentry into the world of shit-kicking punk anarchy.

"He commands get on your knees / Yes daddy punish me..." Jemina snarls throughout “Worship The Whip”, a song that takes a blowtorch to the Pavlovian power dynamics that work to dominate and control us. It’s no coincidence that she’s sporting the same latex dom suit that adorns the album’s cover. We’re gluttons for pain and pleasure, and BYOP’s new adult form delivers both with a razor edge kink.

They began their journey in 2006 with Damn Damn Leash, but in the intervening years all they’ve done is trade the leash for a lash. They sound just as urgent as they did back then, though their message may sting a little harder. Yes, we are easily enslaved, but BYOP still have me firmly in their grip. Sorry, Mommy?

Submissions are always open. Submissions for a specific prompt are open as soon as that prompt is posted and never close. We’ll accept content for any prompts even after that month has ended. The more Rexsoka content, the better!

No underage Rexsoka, unless it’s platonic. This means no content where Rex is an adult and he is sexually attracted to Ahsoka when she is a minor. Unless their ages are adjusted, no explicit romantic content before season 7. Pre-relationship fluff and Ahsoka having a baby crush are acceptable.
