Just A Little Longer (Bob Reynolds X Reader)

Despite living in the tall and luxurious Avengers tower- a tower that has hosted numerous different heroes throughout the years and is a staple in history- the people currently living in it don’t act as if they have everything they could possibly want or need at their fingertips.

They do everything on their own, never sending an assistant or anyone to do things for them. They clean their own clothes, cook their own meals, wash their own dishes. And the one thing that needs to be done the most often is grocery shopping. Feeding three super soldiers takes a lot, and food quickly runs out. They all usually take turns going out to get groceries- though Alexei has been banned from going alone due to him bothering strangers in attempts to get recognized by pointing out their specially branded cereal with their faces printed across the front.

And today, for the first time since moving into the tower, Bob gets to leave to go grocery shopping alongside Yelena.

He’s been restricted to the tower for safety reasons up until now due to his inability to control his powers, but the others managed to not only convince Valentina that he’d be fine, but to also persuade him into going by telling him that everyone else was too busy to help Yelena and he was the only one that could go. And Yelena is the one person Bob would force himself out of his comfort zone for.

So that’s how he finds himself in a seemingly massive grocery store, eyes flickering about nervously while he fiddles with his fingers, awkwardly following behind Yelena as she tosses miscellaneous items into the shopping cart while crossing them off the very long list in her hand. About halfway through the list she suddenly stops and groans, making Bob immediately ask what’s wrong.

“We already passed the aisle with one of the items in it.” She huffs slightly in annoyance at the idea of having to go back.

“I can go get it.” Bob offers, the words tumbling from his lips before he can even fully think them through.

“Can you, please?” Yelena looks up at him, her eyes filled with relief at his offer. “It’s only a few aisles away. I promise I will stay right here and wait for you.”

Once she tells him what the item is and which aisle to find it in, he nods in determination before walking away to go find it. However, the further he gets from her the more his confidence wavers. By the time he reaches the correct aisle, his mind is racing and he’s all but forgotten what it was he was supposed to be grabbing. His eyes quickly search the shelves in hopes of jogging his memory, and eventually he spots what it was he was supposed to be getting. The problem? There’s many different brands with many different prices. He knows money isn’t technically a problem, but he still doesn’t want to grab the most expensive one. Higher price doesn’t always equal higher quality, as well.

It feels like hours pass by as he stands there, staring at the items lining the shelves as if the correct one to choose will just jump out at him. It gets to the point where he feels bad about making Yelena wait for him for so long so he just blindly reaches out to grab a random brand, simply hoping that it’ll be good though. Just as his hand goes to grab it, Bob finds his breath hitching in shock when his fingertips brush against another persons hand.

He recoils instantly, yanking his hand away as if he’s been burned. He hadn’t even noticed that someone was standing next to him, too lost in thought. And he wishes he had been paying more attention because now he likely just sent a complete stranger into a horrible memory like he did to the others all those weeks ago. He’s practically spiraling at this point, thinking that he completely messed up and that it was a mistake to leave the tower.

Until he hears a voice.

“Are you okay?” The voice snaps him from his thoughts, making his eyes flicker to the stranger that he had accidentally brushed hands with. Bob half expects the person to look at him in fear, but instead he finds nothing of the sort. Instead, their eyes are shining, a soft smile on their face as they look at him with nothing but kindness.

You’re looking at him like… like he is worth looking at.

When Bob doesn’t respond to you, you simply hum in understanding, recognizing the look in his eyes- the look of someone who has experienced so much pain in life and expects too experience so much more. So, instead of pressuring him, you reach out, gently taking his hand into yours as you place the item you both reached for into his palm before closing his fingers around it. You don’t say anything. Just place it into his hand, giving his hand a soft pat, and then flash him a kind smile before turning and walking away.

It takes a moment for Bob to snap out of it. To realize what you did. He can just barely feel the warmth of your touch lingering on his skin. And as he watches you walk away, he finds himself a bit upset that he couldn’t even say anything to you. That all he’ll know you as is the kind stranger with a gentle touch and soft smile who looked at him in a way that made his heart flutter.

Bob stands there in the aisle for a while longer, still staring off at the direction you left in. And it isn’t until he hears his name being called by Yelena that he finally looks away. She questions him, asking what was taking so long and if he was alright. And all he can do in response is nod, a shy smile tugging at his lips as he thinks about the stranger he hopes to see again one day. And maybe next time he’ll actually work up the nerves to say something to you. Something that will get you to stay by his side just a bit longer.

Patty: -I think Patty would prefer an exciting first date! Things like amusement parks or fairs, extremely high energy with LOTS of things to do. -He'd want to win you EVERY toy he possibly could. Whether or not hes good at the games is an entirely different story. -Big on PDA and affection. It might be a first date but he is hugging and hand holding like it's his last day in the Grove and he'd DIE if he didn't get attention. -Tries to pay for literally everything like the lil gentleguy he is. -Date ends with you giving him a kiss on the head, he is on cloud 9 and ready to pronounce his eternal love.

Bananathaniel: -As a cinephile obviously the first date is going to be a movie date. You two watch the movie in complete silence and go out for dinner afterwards in which the floodgates are open. -You better either be REALLY into Ban, or REALLY into movies, because he is going to talk the entire time about the movie and it's themes, camera work, acting, everything. -It's hard to be too mad about it, when he asks for your opinion and is genuinely interested in your thoughts (even if he might argue with them a little. or a lot.) -Not a lot of PDA on the first date since it's entirely focused on the movie but you do get a nice hug afterwards :)

Alexei: -This is the most obvious first date ever. You go to a fast food place and eat until you both almost pass out. -There's no PDA. Only voracious feasting that terrifies the employees and gives small children nightmares. -The date ends with you both on a couch passed out with cheeto dust everywhere. It's not your couch. It's not even Alexei's couch. How'd you get into Capochin's house.

Vibiano: -Another restaurant but this one is fancier. -It's a pretty average date, small talk and awkward chatter. -He keeps checking his phone every 4 minutes before he "suddenly gets a phone call" and has to leave, sticking you with the bill. -He makes it up later with a fully customized outfit left at your door and a note to call him later so he can "make sure it fits properly". -It does fit properly, and he takes you out on a better date for the next one.

Grujaja: -How'd you even manage to get a date with this guy. -Extremely lowkey date. You hang out in a quiet field somewhere. -You do have to constantly reassure him that it's ok and everything is fine. -If he hears a loud noise he'd 100% bail and you'd never see him again due to the embarrassment. -Maybe next time just do a home cooked meal.

Capochin: -Genuinely how did you get him to agree to this. -Despite how he tries to come off, he is extremely nervous. -The date would be something chill, he would've preferred to just. Invite you to his house and make a meal there but ultimately settled for a casual (but not too casual) restaurant. -His ass HAS NOT dated since he was around his 20s. Forgot how to date at all, actually. -The date ends with him feeling like the dumbest mother fucker ever and you having to reassure him it wasn't THAT bad and you'd had worse. -Date ends with you giving him a kiss on the cheek and him speed walking away in embarrassment.

Inspekta: -The date takes place in his domain, obviously. He's wrapped around you holding you close as you watch movies on one of the various screens under his desk. -He talks a LOT during the movie, he needs your constant undivided attention. -If you ignore him for too long he'll squeeze around you tighter and tighter like a constrictor until you finally acknowledge him again. -It's as private as a date could get, if you ignore Capo irritably bringing in snacks for the both of you. -Date ends with Inspekta patting you on the head and telling you you should come back soon. Preferably tomorrow. For longer.

Hector: -Similar to the Inspekta date, but this time its on the couch with him bear hugging you from behind. -Less talkative, but still squeezes you when he wants attention (all the time). -You probably lose feeling in a few limbs from how little movement you get, but it's hard to be mad at him when he falls asleep with his head resting against your shoulder. -It's less cute when you realize he's heavier than you and you can't escape.

The situation with COVID in Ukraine can be used in the struggle for power

Any election in its essence is a practical definition of the quantitatively prevailing demand of society. But this is the ideal. In practice, additional factors are included: from administrative resources to the specifics of electoral legislation. As, for example, in the USA. In 2016, Trump lost to Hillary Clinton in terms of the number of voters who voted for him (62,985,134 versus 65,853,652 for Clinton), but won in terms of the number of electors. This is exactly what is happening in Ukraine, where local elections are scheduled for October 25. It seems that everything is not so important: where is Kiev, and where are some Horish Plavni. But the balance between central and local authorities is a delicate matter. Power is the territory of its implementation. In the parliamentary elections last year, Servants of the People won all of Ukraine without any problems, with the exception of three electoral scraps in Donbass, Galicia and the extreme south-west of the country. Forty days before the local elections, one gets the impression that even according to official opinion polls, "Servants" are turning into political outsiders. Mayors of cities and their political teams become the leading local force. Let's take candidates in key cities: Kiev: Mayor Vitali Klitschko (Strike) - 23.6%; Irina Vereshchuk (Servant of the People, 6th place) - 4.8%. Kharkiv: Mayor Gennady Kernes (Successful Kharkiv) - 41.9%; Alexey Kucher (Servant of the people, 6%, 4th place). Lviv: Mayor Andriy Sadovoy (Samopomich) - 41%; there is NO candidate who would be associated with "Servant of the people" in the polls. Odessa: Mayor Gennady Trukhanov (Trust the deeds) - 46.6%; Oleg Filimonov (Servant of the People, 4.2%, 3rd place). And it should be taken into account - these are public polls for throwing into the media space. But in the dark world of political technologies, there is also a "sociology for domestic consumption." Which reflects the real state of affairs, without the factor of publicity. Apparently, this sociology shows that the "Servants of the People" in the regional centers of Ukraine "take" only the mayor's chair in Uzhgorod. Of course, the central government can "bend" any mayor individually. Moreover, in the same Lviv, many local analysts regard Andrey Sadovy as a "secret candidate" from the ruling party. Although not only him. It is possible that all the leaders of mayoral races in large cities have agreements with the "Servants". In such a situation of "electoral peak" the natural desire of the authorities will be the desire to maintain power and avoid "shameful defeat at the elections." By any means. Such a means as the "terrorist threat" allowed the "Servants" to push through the decision of the Central Election Commission of Ukraine to deny the right to vote to voters of 18 united territorial communities in the east of the country, in the controlled territories of Luhansk and Donetsk regions. So far, Ukrainian VIPs publicly guarantee the holding of elections. “The elections will not be hypothetical, they will be held one hundred percent, because this is in line with the constitution” (Dmitry Razumkov, Speaker of Parliament, August 23). The speaker is echoed by the member of the Central Election Commission Sergei Postiviy, convincing that the inclusion of a region in the "red" quarantine zone is not a reason for canceling the elections. "As of today, we have no reason to say that there will be any cancellations." Pay attention to the word "bye" ... But on August 30, the chief sanitary doctor of Ukraine Viktor Lyashko announced that "if a state of emergency is not introduced, the elections will be held, including in the" red "zone." This Russian presidential contender has zero chance against Putin. But a man can dream.

There’s a Russian candidate for president who is wildly popular on YouTube, where he slams the policies of President Vladimir Putin. He has a nationwide political machine and a constituency of millions who are fed up with the current Kremlin occupant and his oligarch friends. Although Putin is overwhelmingly favored to win a new six-year term March 18, this contender has as good a chance as anyone to come in second.

And no, his name is not Alexei Navalny.

It’s Pavel Grudinin, the surprise nominee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, named last month to replace Gennady Zyuganov, the party’s 73-year-old leader and four-time presidential runner-up.

Grudinin, 57, has steered a formerly state-run produce farm outside Moscow into a flourishing business he markets as a showcase for the socialism he’d bring back to Russia.

Like Navalny, the 41-year-old anti-corruption activist excluded from the ballot by Russia’s election commission last month, Grudinin appeals to Russians tired of Putin after his 18 years in power. In well-watched videos with titles like “Grudinin told it like it is! And the State Duma fell silent,” Grudinin openly ridicules Putin’s reliance on “people everyone knows should’ve been in prison long ago,” and promises to repatriate billions from offshore accounts maintained by Russian elites.

As Navalny has done in the past, Grudinin addresses Russian nationalists--both men have spoken out against economic migrants from Central Asia. Both also express umbrage that Russians don’t live as well as people in the West.

“I think Russian people should live better than the people we defeated in the war,” Grudinin declared last month on the popular “Sunday Evening With Vladimir Solovyov” political talk show, referring to Germany.

Grudinin also appeals to Russians who regret the 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union--58 percent, according to a recent poll. Grudinin can show them something neither Navalny nor Putin can: the Lenin Sovkhoz, a former Soviet collective farm he has built into a “socialist oasis in the capitalist jungle of suburban Moscow,” as he put it recently.

The Lenin Sovkhoz provides fruit and vegetables to Moscow’s upscale supermarkets, which cater round-the-clock to people willing to pay a premium for fresh produce. Grudinin, who acknowledges he draws a $350,000 monthly salary, says his workers make about $1,370 per month, more than double the Russian average, and are guaranteed medical care, children’s education and housing.

Putin, addressing the United Russia political party congress that nominated him last month, vowed to fight corruption, offer greater incentives for business and spend to build up Russia’s badly underfunded health-care and education system, the Associated Press reported.

“But making new promises is risky for the president, because what was he doing for 18 years?” Russian journalist Andrei Pertsev wrote in a recent analysis for the Carnegie Moscow Center think tank. “Grudinin fills a need for promises of a better life and criticism of those currently in power.”

Now, if you’ve reading about Grudinin for the first time, don’t blame yourself. Outside Russia, coverage of the presidential campaign has focused on Navalny, whose political odyssey has captured the Western fascination with the guy who stands up to the Kremlin. We in the press have tried to explain Navalny with misleading labels, such as Putin’s “biggest rival” and Russia’s “opposition leader.” I know I’ve done it.

Navalny doesn’t lead any particular united opposition other than his own campaign organization, admirably assembled though it may be, and under very adverse conditions. Polls suggest his ability to organize nationwide anti-corruption protests has not translated into political popularity.

Navalny remained prominent primarily because he campaigned throughout 2017 while most other candidates waited for Putin to announce his intention to run in December. Russian election officials’ decision to ban Navalny over a criminal conviction he decries as politically motivated, and his subsequent calls for a boycott, have kept him in the news.

Meanwhile, Grudinin has been making the circuit on the same state-run TV channels closed to Navalny, the medium where most Russians get their news. He has yet to show up in polls, which predict a sweeping rout for the incumbent, but the more he gets his message out, the more his recognition is likely to grow.

Still, how far will that take him?

Who knows. But at least now you have a reason besides Navalny to pay attention to Russia’s election campaign.

Moscow Exchange Ready for “Fast and Easy” Crypto Trading

With authorities in Moscow still trying to find their bearings on Bitcoin, the largest Russian exchange has announced its readiness to organize cryptocurrency trading. It would be faster and easier, MOEX said in comments to local media. Russia’s Central Bank, however, has rejected calls from the Finance Ministry to allow buying and selling crypto derivatives on traditional markets.

Minfin Pushing for Trade, Centrobank Pulling the Brake

Representatives of the ministry and the bank have recently met to discuss the legalization of crypto trade on registered exchanges in the country, Russia’s Deputy Finance Minister Alexei Moiseev revealed. “The Central Bank does not support our proposals to legalize crypto trading”, Moiseev stressed, quoted by RIA Novosti. He added that his ministry was looking into alternative sets of criteria to shortlist exchanges, which could host such trade. Reluctant to reveal more details, he hinted that some of those options were “geographical”.

The Ministry of Finance is finalizing a draft on cryptocurrency regulation that should be introduced to the State Duma next month. At the end of December, Moiseev announced that his department and the CBR had prepared a bill to regulate Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs). “We’ve tried to avoid the temptation to apply to digital assets, their circulation and related fundraising, the same regulations we have in place for financial markets”, he said.

Cryptocurrency has been defined in the bill as “other property”, and ICOs referred to as crowdfunding used by startups and small businesses to attract capital from a large number of micro-investors. “Minfin” wants to limit the capital collected through a single ICO and cap the share of each “unqualified investor”.

Crypto Derivatives Must Be Within the Law

The initiatives of the Russian Finance Ministry have actually attracted attention and support from representatives of the traditional financial sector. Moscow Exchange, the largest in the country, announced willingness to provide ground for coin-based trading. “We are ready to organize the trade of financial products that are in demand, provided sufficient legal protection is guaranteed”, MOEX said in a statement sent to RBC. However, it also noted that, like any other financial instruments, crypto derivatives must exist within the legal frame in Russia. A MOEX representative also added that from regulatory and technical point of view:

It is faster and easier to implement trading of financial instruments based on cryptocurrency.

Currently, the Central Bank of the Russian Federation seems to be the force pumping the brakes on legalization. At the end of November it saw risks for the global economy in the rise of the “dangerous and uncontrolled” cryptocurrency market. The “formation of a bubble can lead to significant losses for consumers”, it warned. And, of course, cryptos were blamed for money laundering and terrorism financing. But Russia’s desire to be a major player on the world stage, a naughty one sometimes, may be changing minds in Moscow.

Coins Deemed Good for BRICS

With Bitcoin futures trading on two major exchanges in the US, Russia and other oil producing nations might be tempted to price their main export commodity in cryptocurrency instead of petrodollars, according to some analyses. Digital cash offers countries like Iran and Venezuela an opportunity to circumvent Western sanctions, and Moscow is also on the blacklist.

And even the stubborn Centrobank could not resist the temptation to challenge the “single-polar world order”. Last month it came up with the idea of creating a “joint digital currency” for BRICS members and the Eurasian Economic Union states. According to its First Deputy Governor Olga Skorobogatova, a virtual currency is not needed by one country, but a common cryptocurrency for a number of states is very promising:

It makes sense to discuss cryptocurrency on the level of several countries, such as BRICS and the EEU. It makes sense to set one equivalent for all payments.

But what’s really interesting to observe is the Kremlin’s (rare) hesitation on the topic. “In general”, “of course”, and “in the future” were all words used by President Putin in his latest contribution to the Bitcoin debate. While reasoning CBR’s “conservatism” with “there is nothing behind cryptocurrency”, he admitted that “in certain situations it can be a way of paying quickly and efficiently”. “There will be some problems that need to be solved”, Russia’s head of state insisted. With one of his competitors already embracing Bitcoin, Vladimir Putin will ask the Russians for another term in March.
