Analog versus Digital, It's Not Just About the Music
Ever since the introduction of digital recording in the 1980s there has been an ongoing controversy as to the merits of the new medium over the old. And unlike the leap from acoustic to electrical recording which happened about 1929 and the move to stereo recording in the mid 1950s the adoption of digital recording in the 1980s was not universally embraced as a step forward in recording…
I have some questions about karaoke night, Alex Hirsch. Very Important Questions. Which I will happily scream at a poor hapless baby triangle who can have no answers for me, and possibly also does not have object permanence yet.
Follow-up that is I guess suggestive, but let's be real here, Bill's a fucking triangle:
Dude slipped right into his birthday suit, lmao
this is so stupid :D
Anyway, I don't care what anyone says, this brilliant individual knows what's up - Bill is absolutely way more of a monsterfucker than Ford could or ever will be, full stop.
Sounds That Have been Made, EP 89: Manchester Collective+ performs "Weather" from Michael Gordon
I found a used copy of Michael Gordon‘s Weather in a bargain bin some time near the end of the 90s, and it stuck with me.
Gordon is co-founder of the Bang on a Can musical collective and attendant festival, and his work is often pretty interesting for it’s weird mix of accessible orchestral motifs, drenched in minimalism (think Steve Reich) and adventurous stretching (think Kronos Quartet) but…
Hey stayblr, I've been thinking of ways we can unite to help Palestine in the current genocide. If you cannot donate
- please reblog and share around!
- stream hind’s hall (all proceeds will be donated to unrwa!

05.05.24 Michael Gordon’s Rushes for an ensemble of seven bassoonists, is an ambient journey into quasi-meditative, at times ecstatic waves of melody and sound. Referencing both the reeds of the instruments and the mental state it produces, Rushes becomes a journey through a primordial marshland featuring tonal and timbral aspects of the bassoon that you may have never heard, or knew existed, until now. After agonizing about writing a “best of” blog and publishing it before January 1, I decided to take a pause and enjoy the holidays. So here I look back on my 2023 in the rear view mirror but with memories still pretty fresh.
Regular readers of this blog likely already know of my oft shared opinion of the superfluous nature of “best of” lists and of my acquiescence in…
