Doctor Who spinoff comic: Lytton issue 1
Eric Sward’s Lytton is fantastic, mainly thanks to Barry Renshaw’s art. Here are 6 stunning pages. I have no clue what is going on with the story, but I love it.

CutAwayComics Launches with Doctor Who Related Comics
CutAwayComics, an independent comic imprint based in Manchester launches this summer featuring worlds and characters from BBC’s Doctor Who
CutAwayComics, an independent comic imprint based in Manchester launches this summer featuring worlds and characters from BBC’s Doctor Who drawing them into darker recesses of a dangerous, unpredictable cutaway universe.
Mixing writers new to comics with experienced artists, Cutaway Comics will bring a new perspective to characters from the worlds of Doctor Who using British writers and artists.
Publisher Gareth Kavanagh explains: “I was always fascinated by strips in the back of Doctor Who Weekly that didn’t feature the Doctor. Instead, the monsters took centre stage - and the stories were terrifying. Those strips launched the careers of Alan Moore and David Lloyd amongst others, and this is our homage to those unpredictable and wild stories with the next generation of talent.”
The first 'chapter' of CutAwayComics includes a visit to the giant tower block of Paradise Towers, the rogue God Omega attempting to free himself of his black hole prison and a dimension-hopping trip to 1970’s Soho in Lytton.
A noir thriller perfect for fans of Sin City and Criminal, launch title Lytton, featuring the intergalactic soldier seen in Doctor Who is a brand new story written by his creator Eric Saward and featuring art from Barry Renshaw (2000 AD).
Intergalactic soldier Lytton has swapped the battlefields for a jazz club in 1970's Soho. If only it wasn’t for the strange noises in the sewers, rumours of vicious aliens in the dark alleyways, and a terrible sense of murder in the air then everything might be perfect.
Further stories to come from CutAwayComics include Omega: Vengeance, which sees rogue God Omega pulling the strings to escape his black hole prison - but will the society of Minyos fall as a result? Influenced by Greek mythology, the mix of cosmic and mythologic will appeal to fans of The Sandman and Promethea.
Written by Mark Griffiths whose children’s book series Spy Toys (written under the pen name Mark Powers) has been optioned by Dreamworks, Omega also features art by the legendary John Ridgway.
Following Omega: Vengeance will be a return to the world of Paradise Towers, a giant tower block with teenage gangs, murderous old 'rezzies', and underground whispers that might topple the tower block once and for all - think The Thirteenth Floor meets Halo Jones. Keep looking on the CutAwayComics website for more about this story including the opportunity for artists to be involved.
Beyond the comics, each issue ordered directly from the CutAwayComics will include an exclusive bonus DVD with the following content:
Video commentaries on the comic featuring artist Barry Renshaw and writer Eric Saward
An introduction to the series from Eric Saward
New interviews with Eric Saward and Barry Renshaw
Newly recorded audio commentaries for ‘Gangsters’, the series that shot Lytton actor Maurice Colbourne to fame featuring series creator Philip Martin and BFI Historian Dick Fiddy
A newly recorded audio commentary for ‘The Caves of Androzani’ featuring Salateen actor Robert Glenister
Deleted pages, and concept art
CutAwayComics has launched a Kickstarter to raise awareness of the project, offering exclusive perks such as digital copies and the chance for you to appear in a future Lytton comic.

Klondex Releases Year-End Update and Guidance for 2017
The release of Klondex Mines’ full-year and fourth-quarter numbers for 2016, as well as limited guidance for 2017, prompted commentary by analysts following the company’s operations in both the United States and Canada.
In 2016, Klondex Mines Ltd. (KDX:TSX; KLDX:NYSE.MKT) reported that, “operations at Fire Creek and Midas produced a record 43,264 gold equivalent ounces (GEOs) during the fourth quarter, bringing the full year 2016 Nevada production total to 150,099 GEOs, slightly above the top end of the Company’s guidance of 145,000 to 150,000 GEOs. Fourth quarter production benefited from planned higher grades at both Fire Creek and Midas as well as planned higher mining rates.”
Also in its Jan. 18 announcement, Klondex stated that it “expects to produce between 210,000 and 225,000 GEOs during 2017 at an expected cash cost of $680 to $710 per GEO sold. This represents an increase in GEOs sold of approximately 37% from the prior year as the Company benefits from bulk sampling production at its Hollister project in Nevada as well as higher production from its True North mine in Canada as ramp-up continues. Fire Creek and Midas’ 2017 production is expected to be in line with the prior year.”
Commenting in a research report released Jan. 19, Mackie Research analyst Barry Allan observed, “KDX continues to achieve good operating results while at the same time digesting two new mines that presented prior operators with challenges. Adding value for the newly purchased Hollister mine and upgrading our forecast for 2017 and beyond, coupled with a drop in the share price, allows us to upgrade to BUY from HOLD.”
“We expect 2017 to feature strong production growth,” Heiko Ihle of Rodman & Renshaw wrote in a Jan. 20 research report. The analyst noted that, “In our view, operations at both Midas and Fire Creek should remain somewhat steady in 2017,” and added that Rodman & Renshaw anticipates “production growth to come from two of the firm’s newer assets: True North and Hollister.”
In addition, Ihle wrote that his firm expects “Klondex to reach record production in 2017 and think[s] gold equivalent production could reach approximately 220,000 ounces for the year, which would represent an approximate 46% production increase YoY.”
Jamie Spratt of Clarus Securities, in a Jan. 19 research report, noted that “2016 was another year of meeting guidance with full year production of +150 koz beating the high end of revised guidance of 145150 koz. While we see production growth of +25% from True North that will be fully ramped up in 2017, we see further growth in 2018 from the Hollister mine, which could see AuEq production expand to 300 koz. Overall, we see further upside remaining in the stock given management’s successful execution track record and the growth left on the table.”
In addition, Spratt wrote, “Overall, we continue to believe that KDX is well positioned to deliver compelling production growth of ~100% supported by True North and Hollister mines that would boost production to ~300 koz by 2018, the best growth profile among its mid-cap producer peers. . .Our thesis continues to be that KDX offers best in class production growth, low cost production and a solid management execution track record.”
PI Financial’s Philip Ker, in a Jan. 19 research report, stated, “given the high-grade nature of Fire Creek and the potential of Hollister coming online sooner than anticipated, Klondex could potentially see production above its current guidance.” The analyst added that PI Financial believes “further ramp-up of the True North mine and its recently acquired Hollister mine into the Company’s production profile will be critical for Klondex to realize an increased production profile, help support reduced costs and help generate increased cash flow.”
“The evolution of Klondex continues and 2016 was a banner year in many ways,” company President and CEO Paul Huet stated in the Klondex announcement. “We are excited to enter 2017 with four mines and three mills in Nevada and Canada. Fire Creek and Midas continue to be our flagship operations. We are also pleased with the progress thus far at True North in Canada and the recently acquired Hollister project in Nevada. We are well positioned for yet another record year in 2017.”

Cutaway Comics - Update
Latest from the news site: Cutaway Comics, the new independent imprint featuring worlds and characters from the world of BBC Television’s Doctor Who, had announced stretch goals for their hugely successful Kickstarter. The project has already raised over £8,000, far in excess of the £678 goal. The top goal will be a pilot for a new series of comics featuring ORCINI: Master of the Grand Order of Oberon, as played by William Gaunt in the 1985 Doctor Who story Revelation of the Daleks . This is a return for one of Eric Saward’s most celebrated creations. Oricini is a space knight, who battles evil across the five galaxies with his loyal squire, Bostock, at his side. The tales of this legendary caste of space knights who dedicate their lives to fighting against evil are known across the Galaxy. The legends of these quasi-mystic beings speak for themselves. For reasons we have yet to learn, one of their number, Orcini, has been excommunicated from the Order. Cast out and dishonoured, Orcini has been reborn as a Soldier of Fortune. Accompanied by his faithful squire, Bostock, this mythical pair have embarked on a galaxy-spanning quest to vanquish evil and maybe, restore their honour.Orcini has had many adventures. Songs of his victories are sung across the Five Galaxies. The legends talk of a man who needs just to breathe on his enemies to make them wither and die. But the latest assignment has Orcini at a disadvantage. On paper, it seems a straight rescue, but is life ever that simple at the Outer Systems of the Galaxy? Publisher Gareth Kavanagh comments: Orcini and Bostock are a refined double act, played with flair, and completely in keeping with some of the finest duos to have grace Doctor Who’s screens. The thought to bring them back for this Kickstarter was irresistible, and a perfect way to reward those who have pledged their support to the project already if we can meet the stretch goals. Orcini is available to those backing the Cutaway Comics Kickstarter and will be issued if the top funding goal is met. Other goals include merchandise packages which include new commentaries for classic Doctor Who serials, and prints and posters based around launch title Lytton. The Kickstarter can be found online along with information on the project and an introductory video. More information can be found on the Cutaway Comics website or in the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine which features an article with interviews including Eric Saward, Bob Baker, Stephen Wyatt and artists Barry Renshaw and John Ridgway. http://www.doctorwhonews.net/2020/08/cutaway_comics_update.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=tumblr

Surging Sanders, Emboldened Trump Unnerve Democrats on Eve of New Hampshire
For the past year, Democratic voters have been anxious to settle on a savior capable of defeating President Donald Trump.
The first week of primary balloting was supposed to speed the winnowing of an outsized field of candidates and showcase Democrats’ readiness to take back the White House in November. But an embarrassing meltdown in the Iowa caucus vote count, and a dismal showing by Joe Biden, once seen as the safest choice to unseat the Republican incumbent, have only heightened fears among some Democrats that their party isn’t up to the task.
The early strength of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, the liberal stalwart who has vowed to upend American healthcare and go after corporations and the wealthy, has some voters worried that Democrats will blow their chance to unseat an unpopular president if the party veers too far to the left.
Tuesday’s New Hampshire primary may do little to dispel the collective unease or help bridge the deep ideological split between the party’s liberal and moderate wings. Several recent polls showed the top two vote-getters in Iowa – Sanders and former South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg – as the favorites in New Hampshire.
While the primary season is young, voters such as Millie LaFontaine are already feeling a touch of panic. Interviewed Saturday at a Biden rally in Manchester, New Hampshire, the 69-year-old said she wants to back the candidate best-positioned to knock off Trump, but she isn’t sure who that might be.
“I’d like to vote strategically, but we Democrats are in disarray and I don’t know what strategic is,” she said. “I am afraid.”
GOP UNITED, DEMS DIVIDED
Adding to the party’s jitters, last week was one of the brightest in Trump’s three years in office. His impeachment trial ended in acquittal. The economy continued churning out jobs. A Gallup poll showed 49% of all registered voters surveyed approve of his performance, the highest mark of his presidency – including an overwhelming 94% of Republicans.
Meanwhile, results in Iowa showed that Democratic voters appear far from a consensus.
After leading in the polls for virtually the entire campaign pre-season, the 77-year-old Biden limped to a fourth-place finish in the caucus. It was a blow to Democratic traditionalists who consider the avuncular former vice president the surest bet to unite the fractious party and defeat Trump.
The strong performance of Buttigieg, the youngest candidate at 38, has boosted his profile as a centrist alternative to Biden. He is projected to have won 14 delegates, two more than Sanders. But polls show he has not attracted much support from black voters, a cornerstone of the diverse Democratic coalition. And some worry America isn’t ready to elect an openly gay president.
Adding to the uncertainty is an ascendant Mike Bloomberg, the billionaire former mayor of New York who has positioned himself as a moderate who can win independents and Republicans. Bloomberg is skipping the four early voting states in February but is competing from March 3, known as Super Tuesday, when nearly a third of delegates will be awarded from 14 states, including Texas and California.
After spending more than a quarter-billion dollars nationwide on advertising since November, Bloomberg has surged to third place behind Biden and Sanders, according to a Reuters/Ipsos national poll conducted Jan. 29-30.
Sanders, 78, won the most votes in Iowa’s complicated caucus system. The independent senator boasts a large grassroots network that is passionate about his calls for transformational change. But his candidacy terrifies many moderates, who believe a self-described “democratic socialist” stands no chance in a general election.
Trump already has seized upon the label, saying during last week’s State of the Union address that “America will never be a socialist country.”
Sanders backers contend he is the only candidate capable of bringing out young people and others who normally wouldn’t vote. While there is evidence that Sanders did pull in more young voters in Iowa, overall turnout was significantly below record numbers posted in 2008, when Democrat Barack Obama rode a wave of enthusiasm to the White House. That casts doubt on Sanders’ argument that his brand of left-wing populism can inspire enough new voters to defeat Trump, said Rahm Emanuel, Obama’s former chief of staff and the ex-mayor of Chicago.
“There wasn’t this magic army” that materialized in Iowa, Emanuel said. “The cavalry wasn’t coming.“
SHAKY START
The Democrats’ rough week began with a debacle in the Iowa vote count, caused in part by the failure of a ballot-tabulating phone app. Days of delays in announcing the totals drew mockery from Trump and, ultimately, a call from Tom Perez, chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), to re-canvass all the precinct results.
“We’re a party in chaos,” Rep. Marcia Fudge, a Democratic congresswoman from Ohio, told Politico.
Former Pennsylvania Gov. Edward G. Rendell called the bungled count a “fiasco.”
“We don’t look very good when one of our biggest arguments against Donald Trump is that he’s incompetent, and every day something happens where we screw something up,” Rendell, a Biden supporter and former DNC chair, told Reuters.
Others worry the party will fail to capitalize on Republican vulnerabilities on issues such as healthcare if the eventual nominee backs solutions perceived as too radical by middle-of-the-road voters.
Sanders and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren favor Medicare for All, a universal government system that would eventually replace private health insurance. Biden, Buttigieg and Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar want to improve the existing system and add a public option for those who want it.
Voter Chris Kane is weighing his options. The 65-year-old ecologist from Concord, New Hampshire likes Klobuchar, but he’s open to backing Warren, the choice of his wife Eve Oyer. The couple attended a Warren event at a middle school over the weekend, while their son Ben Kane, 32, came up from New York to canvass for Sanders.
“What’s the right decision?,” said the elder Kane on Sunday. “It’s complicated.”
CULLING THE HERD
Sanders backers point to their candidate’s momentum, both in votes and fundraising, as evidence his proposals are catching fire. The campaign said it raised $25 million in January, most of it small donations from 648,000 people.
New Hampshire resident Anne Lichtener views Sanders’ anti-establishment credentials as an advantage in winning back blue-collar voters who defected to Trump in 2016.
“Bernie probably appeals to the working class more than any other candidate,” said the 28-year-old lab manager, who lives in Enfield.
The Buttigieg camp, meanwhile, is looking to pick off Biden donors following the former vice president’s flop in Iowa, according to a Buttigieg fundraiser who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
“People who were for Biden were for him because they thought he could win. That’s no longer the case,” the person said.
On Sunday, in a jam-packed hotel ballroom along the New Hampshire seacoast, Biden told supporters to keep the faith.
“No matter what happens in this state…I’m going to keep moving,” Biden said, predicting he will perform well in states with a greater number of African-Americans and other voters of color.
Like Iowa, New Hampshire is overwhelmingly white. Nevada, which has a large Latino population, and South Carolina, with a heavy concentration of black voters, are next on the primary calendar this month.
With the prospect that several viable candidates will roll on into the spring, the race could remain undecided for months – perhaps even to the opening of the nominating convention in July in Milwaukee.
Democratic voters are buckling in for what some fear will be a rough ride.
Barry Nestor, a Biden supporter in Milford, New Hampshire, said he is particularly worried about Trump’s “socialists” tag sticking to the party’s liberal candidates.
“Trump is going to go after them,” Nestor said. “It’s just not going to be good.”

Klondex Releases Year-End Update and Guidance for 2017
The release of Klondex Mines' full-year and fourth-quarter numbers for 2016, as well as limited guidance for 2017, prompted commentary by analysts following the company's operations in both the United States and Canada.
In 2016, Klondex Mines Ltd. (KDX:TSX; KLDX:NYSE.MKT) reported that, "operations at Fire Creek and Midas produced a record 43,264 gold equivalent ounces (GEOs) during the fourth quarter, bringing the full year 2016 Nevada production total to 150,099 GEOs, slightly above the top end of the Company's guidance of 145,000 to 150,000 GEOs. Fourth quarter production benefited from planned higher grades at both Fire Creek and Midas as well as planned higher mining rates."
Also in its Jan. 18 announcement, Klondex stated that it "expects to produce between 210,000 and 225,000 GEOs during 2017 at an expected cash cost of $680 to $710 per GEO sold. This represents an increase in GEOs sold of approximately 37% from the prior year as the Company benefits from bulk sampling production at its Hollister project in Nevada as well as higher production from its True North mine in Canada as ramp-up continues. Fire Creek and Midas' 2017 production is expected to be in line with the prior year."
Commenting in a research report released Jan. 19, Mackie Research analyst Barry Allan observed, "KDX continues to achieve good operating results while at the same time digesting two new mines that presented prior operators with challenges. Adding value for the newly purchased Hollister mine and upgrading our forecast for 2017 and beyond, coupled with a drop in the share price, allows us to upgrade to BUY from HOLD."
"We expect 2017 to feature strong production growth," Heiko Ihle of Rodman & Renshaw wrote in a Jan. 20 research report. The analyst noted that, "In our view, operations at both Midas and Fire Creek should remain somewhat steady in 2017," and added that Rodman & Renshaw anticipates "production growth to come from two of the firm's newer assets: True North and Hollister."
In addition, Ihle wrote that his firm expects "Klondex to reach record production in 2017 and think[s] gold equivalent production could reach approximately 220,000 ounces for the year, which would represent an approximate 46% production increase YoY."
Jamie Spratt of Clarus Securities, in a Jan. 19 research report, noted that "2016 was another year of meeting guidance with full year production of +150 koz beating the high end of revised guidance of 145150 koz. While we see production growth of +25% from True North that will be fully ramped up in 2017, we see further growth in 2018 from the Hollister mine, which could see AuEq production expand to 300 koz. Overall, we see further upside remaining in the stock given management's successful execution track record and the growth left on the table."
In addition, Spratt wrote, "Overall, we continue to believe that KDX is well positioned to deliver compelling production growth of ~100% supported by True North and Hollister mines that would boost production to ~300 koz by 2018, the best growth profile among its mid-cap producer peers. . .Our thesis continues to be that KDX offers best in class production growth, low cost production and a solid management execution track record."
PI Financial's Philip Ker, in a Jan. 19 research report, stated, "given the high-grade nature of Fire Creek and the potential of Hollister coming online sooner than anticipated, Klondex could potentially see production above its current guidance." The analyst added that PI Financial believes "further ramp-up of the True North mine and its recently acquired Hollister mine into the Company's production profile will be critical for Klondex to realize an increased production profile, help support reduced costs and help generate increased cash flow."
"The evolution of Klondex continues and 2016 was a banner year in many ways," company President and CEO Paul Huet stated in the Klondex announcement. "We are excited to enter 2017 with four mines and three mills in Nevada and Canada. Fire Creek and Midas continue to be our flagship operations. We are also pleased with the progress thus far at True North in Canada and the recently acquired Hollister project in Nevada. We are well positioned for yet another record year in 2017."
