"…JOHN ENTWISTLE, SURELY THE MOST GIFTED BASS PLAYER OF HIS GENERATION…"
PIC(S) INFO: Mega spotlight on THE WHO's John Entwistle (1944-2002), a.k.a., "The Ox," laying down fat bass chords and solid rhythms during the recording of the "Live at Leeds" LP at Leeds University on February 14, 1970. 📸: John Rettie.
"…John Entwistle, surely the most gifted bass player of his generation, held a beat but at the same time played imaginative runs -- or fat chords -- at every notch on his fretboard. With all this going on around him, Pete was allowed the luxury of soloing at will -- knowing that if he missed a note it didn't matter because the sheer din of Moon and The Ox covered everything up -- or doing what he did best, which was to establish a chord riff and ram it home."
-- CHRIS CHARLESWORTH, "Live at Leeds" 1995 CD remaster liner notes

Dashboard Confessional - Hands Down (So Impossible version)
Me and my sophomore year boyfriend’s song. He was the only one I ever had a song with. We’d listen to it on repeat for HOURSSSSS, making out in his room. For Halloween that year, he went to school dressed like Benji Madden, hair spikes and all. We went sledding when it snowed at the park across the street from his house, where I’m pretty sure I broke my pinky finger (still awkwardly bent to this day). I’m fairly, 99% sure he broke up with me because of my controlling parents who wouldn’t let me stay out past 9, or go to shows.
You wrote our names in the new sidewalk they paved by your house. It’s still there, forever emblazoned in our lame hometown, the only evidence left of our 6 month relationship from 2002, until it erodes away and they re-pave, or knock something down for a parking lot or something.
Other songs we played on repeat with no context::
CKY - Disengage the Simulator
The Ataris - Looking Back on Today
Incubus - Vitamin

I'm getting better at doing chords on bass. And just getting better at bass in general.
Not too sure what causes the fret farts but it could just be from me not being the greatest at barring strings on bass.
Once I get better at guitar and figure out how to do something for a drum track I can finally start producing music. Yippeeee :3

i was gonna make a thing about "lullabye" from the arknights ost but halfway through i realized i was wrong so instead im just gonna post the intro melody vs. the verse melody and say how much love how simple the opening is, its all very like....expected and plain chord movements,
Fm -> C -> Fm -> F -> Bbm -> Fm -> G -> Fm
like the G at the end is a good twist, but like, change that to a C and its literally the same chords for the tetris theme. literally just using a lot of 1-4-5 chord patterns
but then you get to the verse!!! and its !!! all switched up!
Fm -> Eb -> Db -> C7 -> Fm -> Db -> Caug -> C
like its a song in a minor key, but with that darker tone in mind, it just does a lot of step downs (F to E to D to C is like going lower/down for me) with nothing but major chords. this really gives the song a dreamlike feel for me, the ear knows its supposed to be dark but youre hit with several "happy chords" in a row and then immiediately going to C7 (could also be an Edim), a super dissonant chord and commanding bass notes, its just like... a strange clash/mix of emotions. like it makes me think of something trying to make you feel safe when you absolutely should NOT trust it and are not safe
anyways this songs super pretty. i love the chords, i love the melody. love the it everything. heres the full song if anyone wants to listen and compare or something. im using 0:40 as the start of the verse

Johnny Silverhand being the guitarist of his band versus Keanu Reeves being the bassist of his band is very funny to me. Ultimate personality difference between a character and their actor.

psa to the musicians on here (yes even the ones who don’t think you’re skilled enough to count, you do, this is especially for you)
if you’re trying to cover a 5sos song and it’s turning out to be really hard?? it might not mean you’re bad at music. it might just be because their stuff (especially the recent stuff) is actually really complex for their genre, deceptively so, and I promise if you work your way up to it with some songs from literally any other pop artist you’ll be g. don’t doubt yourself

i don’t think an album has ever captured the adolescent experience as well as lorde did with pure heroine in 2013. that album is the most authentic, gut wrenchingly accurate depiction of teenagehood i’ve ever been able to hear, and now that i’m at the age when i can experience everything she was conveying to it’s fullest extent i can’t help but feel jealous of those who got to experience all this when she came out with it a decade ago
