Laika exhibit at the MoPop in Seattle showing the set for the opening scene of the Beldam sewing Coraline's doll. I love all the different old buttons. The rig for the hands is a pretty interesting feat of engineering since the friction in the joints has to be enough to hold it into place but not so much they can't be moved by the animators. I'm no expert but that seems like it would be tough to do with so many thin, tiny segments. The thing I was delighted by was how close the prop doll looks to the merch doll I bought years ago.

I went to go see Coraline at the movies cause I thought it would be a fun experience since I’ve only seen it at home, but I was the only one in that theater and let me tell you watching Coraline all by yourself in the very middle of a huge, dark theater is NOT a fun experience.

Monster Girl October (tarot deck) day 10: The Beldam aka the Other Mother from Coraline as the Queen of Swords!

(I was smitten by the idea of a sewing needle being referred to as a sword, plus my friends and I watched Coraline tonight)

I just rewatched coraline and a thought occurred to me. Forcible and Spink have 3 dogs and all of the winged ones are organized in 3s. This made me think maybe they were once triplets and one got stolen.Because of that they were never able to leave the house, either because of thr other mother or to protect future children. And Mr b has his jumping mouse circus but and he clearly has the skills to be part of a real circus and probably was, until his brother or son got taken and the trauma made him unable to ever move from that house. I say brother or son because mr b isnt as old as forcible and spink so idk what would make sense age wise for him to be missing There are 3 other children coraline saves, one is wybies great aunt, I think one is the missing triplet and Mr b's brother/son. Like how wybies grandma continues to be the landlord there.

PLUS forcible and spink seems to have a 3 fates vibe. With match with the motif of strings/webs.

I wonder if the Shadow Sirens were inspired by the Sanderson sisters and the Orddu sisters? I'm VERY normal about this! Just wanted to point it out. :U

While I'm still Gaimanposting, does the Other Mother seem to anyone else like a weird hybrid of Peter Pan and Captain Hook? I mean, on one hand Peter is sorta the immortal god of a whimsical but dangerous fantasy world where kids can escape to, and due to his eternal immaturity he's more sinister and selfish than he initially appears. On the other hand, Hook has the animal nemesis and also the weird Freudian dynamic where he's like the fantasy world's alternate version of Wendy's dad (especially given that Hook and Mr. Darling are traditionally played by the same actor).

Since i was kid i've loved Monster High and Coraline fandoms. Have you ever think about Beldam's daughter (son) in MH universe? I think,she would be a queen of school ( sorry, Cleo)
