I normally don't do any art challenges outside of inktober season. However, I remembered MerMay existed as I did a doodle yesterday, and ended up doodling 15 mermaids in one sitting. If I do MerMay, I definitely won't have the kind of effort/planning I put into October, buuut....maybe some mermaid doodles will be featured this May.

Went to a cryptid/conspiracy themed event with friends this week and we decorated alien cupcakes and got 2nd place in trivia! (These are the ones I made; personal favorite is the cow being abducted)

Some *canonical crushes* amongst the monster girl gang!

Bonnie and Slime Girl are movie buffs, with Bonnie loving Vincent Price best and Slime Girl being a big Boris Karloff lover. Meanwhile, Adaline (werewolf girl) has been down bad for Bonnie ever since she met her (it was love at first sight on her end. Unfortunately, Bonnie is an idiot). Caramilla is unabashedly trying to seduce Terar (who perhaps has a bit of reciprocation to it?? But is too tsundere to admit it? 👀) and those are the first burst of Canon crushes! I've yet to share info on Caramilla's ex or on other pairings, but I love shipping/interpretations of any of my ocs. Send me asks if you want to q&a!

Monster Girl October (tarot deck) Day 31: Gorgons (and other symbols associated with female monsters across cultures and history) as the cover of the tarot deck!

The gorgons are one of the most ancient female monsters in literature; fitting for the card covers of our literary monster girl tarot deck! Thank you for joining me for year 3 of Monster Girl October!

Monster Girl October (tarot deck) day 30: Grendel's Mother from Beowulf as the Empress card!

The last of my major arcana! The Empress in tarot is the divine feminine and represents a mother figure. Grendel's Mother was an instant choice, both in name as well as in her actions. Whereas Grendel lays seige to the meadhall due to the noise and attempts to flee battle once caught by Beowulf, Grendel's Mother attacks only in revenge for her son's death and fights valiantly! The battle with her puts Beowulf on the defensive, and her character could be described as the most noble (and in my opinion, the most interesting) of the 3 monsters Beowulf faces. Remember to call your mother!

Monster Girl October (tarot deck) day 29: The Bride of Frankenstein from Frankenstein as the Death card!

Having been destroyed by Victor before being able to live, I thought of the Bride of Frankenstein as the perfect figure of death for the card! (I do LOVE the universal studios version design though)

Monster Girl October (tarot deck) Day 28: The Eldritch goddess Shub-Niggurath from H.P. Lovecraft's stories as The World card!

"Iä! Shub-Niggurath! The Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young!"

Monster Girl October (tarot deck) Day 27: Princess Iron Fan from Journey to the West as the Page (or princess) of Pentacles card!

Here she is trying to shoo off Sun Wukong (disguised in fly form) while in her treasure room.

Monster Girl October (tarot deck) day 26: Queen Tera from The Jewel of Seven Stars as The Emperor card!

(I'm double dipping into Bram Stoker a bit with this one). The Emperor card implies power, responsibility, and the payoff of hard work. Queen Tera (aside from being a ruler) fits the card for her intelligence and planning ability to bring about her own rise from the dead through possession and murder! If you want to read it, the 1903 version has a far more compelling ending than the 1912 edit which changed it to a happy marriage ending due to controversy.
