Blue Link Analysis

This is an analysis of Blue Link from the Four Swords manga. Link to the other parts, along with a more in-depth explanation of what this post is about.

Personality:

Blue is short-tempered, hot-headed, and fiercely competitive. He’s the most aggressive and physically expressive of the group, often acting on impulse and emotion rather than thought. Despite his brashness, Blue is courageous and, deep down, cares deeply for his friends, even if he struggles to show it.

Behaviour:

Early Attitude: At the start by the Four Sword temple, Blue is convinced he is the “original” Link, going so far as to try to take Green’s clothes to prove his point. He’s resistant to teamwork, preferring to act independently and prove his own strength. His impatience and frustration often manifest as physical outbursts, especially when things don’t go his way.

Later Attitude: Blue becomes less obsessed with being the “original” and more accepting of his place in the team. He learns to control his temper, shows more patience, and expresses genuine care for his friends. Blue’s loyalty and protectiveness shine through, and he’s able to joke and bond with the others, revealing a softer, more supportive side.

Interactions:

With Green: Blue’s relationship with Green is defined by rivalry and competition. He constantly challenges Green’s authority and decisions, seeking to prove himself as the strongest and most capable. However, beneath the rivalry is a grudging respect, and as the story progresses, Blue begins to trust Green’s leadership and even looks to him for guidance in critical moments.

With Red: Blue is often harsh with Red, blaming him for mishaps and even lashing out physically. Red’s optimism and innocence initially irritate Blue, who sees them as weaknesses. However, after Red saves him from the ice, Blue’s attitude begins to shift. He starts to appreciate Red’s unwavering support and kindness, even if he can’t express gratitude directly. Blue’s protectiveness grows, and he becomes more mindful of Red’s feelings.

With Vio: Blue and Vio have a dynamic marked by sarcasm and frequent clashes. Blue’s straightforward, action-oriented approach often conflicts with Vio’s calculated, strategic mindset. Their banter turns more healthy after Vios ‘betrayal’ was revealed and they became supportive of each other [They probably learned how to act better due to the others present…to some degree at least].

With the Group: Initially, Blue resists the idea of teamwork, believing he can handle challenges alone. However, after being saved by Red and facing situations he can’t overcome by himself, he gradually accepts the group’s importance. He becomes more supportive, especially in moments of crisis[fights], and is the first to check on Green after his duel with Vio, showing his deep, if hidden, care.

Motivations and Morality:

Blue is driven by a desire to prove himself and be recognized as the strongest. He wants to be a hero, but his pride and impatience often get in the way. Over the course of the manga, he learns that true strength comes from relying on others and that teamwork is not a weakness but a source of power.

Development:

Blue acts impulsively, often letting his emotions dictate his actions. He’s the team’s most direct, always ready to fight and (later) protect his friends, even if he doesn’t always express his feelings well. As he matures, he becomes more patient and accepting of the group, learning to trust and care openly.

How Blue Would Act:

Blue would approach situations with newfound patience and a sense of responsibility toward his friends. He probably would be somewhat more open about himself towards the others.  He jokes and bonds with the group, using his strength to support rather than overshadow. Although when conflicts arise, he is still the first of the group who would act physical, but would let the others talk first. Don’t be fooled, he is still short tempered and aggressive, just a bit more laid back, as his colour would normally promise.

Day 19 of FS Winter's Delight lets go!!!! Every now and again i reread the manga and get reminded of just how silly they all are despite being heroes. I love their interactions so much.
