Gulf migration is not just a major phenomenon in Kerala; north Indian states also see massive migration to the Gulf. Uttar Pradesh and Bihar accounted for the biggest share (30% and 15%) of all Indian workers migrating to GCC1 countries in 2016-17 (Khan 2023)—a trend which continues today. Remittances from the Gulf have brought about significant growth in Bihar’s economy (Khan 2023)—as part of a migrant’s family, I have observed a tangible shift in the quality of life, education, houses, and so on, in Siwan. In Bihar, three districts—Siwan, Gopalganj, and Chapra—send the majority of Gulf migrants from the state, mostly for manual labor (Khan 2023). Bihar also sees internal migration of daily wagers to Delhi, Bombay, and other parts of India. Gulf migration from India’s northern regions, like elsewhere in India, began after the oil boom in the 1970s. Before this time, migration was limited to a few places such as Assam, Calcutta, Bokaro, and Barauni—my own grandfather worked in the Bokaro steel factory.

Despite the role of Gulf migration and internal migration in north Indian regions, we see a representational void in popular culture. Bollywood films on migration largely use rural settings, focussing on people who work in the USA, Europe, or Canada. The narratives centre these migrants’ love for the land and use dialogue such as ‘mitti ki khusbu‘ (fragrance of homeland). Few Bollywood films, like Dor and Silvat, portray internal migration and Gulf migration. While Bollywood films frequently centre diasporic experiences such as Gujaratis in the USA and Punjabis in Canada, they fail in portraying Bihari migrants, be they indentured labourers in the diaspora, daily wagers in Bengal, or Gulf migrants. The regional Bhojpuri film industry fares no better in this regard. ‘A good chunk of the budget is spent on songs since Bhojpuri songs have an even larger viewership that goes beyond the Bhojpuri-speaking public’, notes Ahmed (2022), marking a context where there is little purchase for Gulf migration to be used as a reference to narrate human stories of longing, sacrifice, and family.

One reason for this biased representation of migration is that we see ‘migration’ as a monolith. In academic discourse, too, migration is often depicted as a commonplace phenomenon, but I believe it is crucial to make nuanced distinctions in the usage of the terms ‘migration’ and ‘migrant’. The term ‘migration’ is a broad umbrella term that may oversimplify the diverse experiences within this category. My specific concern is about Gulf migrants, as their migration often occurs under challenging circumstances. For individuals from my region, heading to the Gulf is typically a last resort. This kind of migration leads to many difficulties, especially when it distances migrants from their family for much of their lifetime. The term ‘migration’, therefore, inadequately captures the profound differences between, for instance, migrating to the USA for educational purposes and migrating to the Gulf for labour jobs. Bihar has a rich history of migration, dating back to the era of indentured labor known as girmitiya. Following the abolition of slavery in 1883, colonial powers engaged in the recruitment of laborers for their other colonies through agreements (Jha 2019). Girmitiya distinguishes itself from the migration. People who are going to the Arabian Gulf as blue-collar labourers are also called ‘Gulf migrants’—a term that erases how their conditions are very close to slavery. This is why, as a son who rarely saw his father, I prefer to call myself a ‘victim of migration’ rather than just a ‘part of migration’. It is this sense of victimhood and lack of control over one’s life that I saw missing in Bollywood and Bhojpuri cinema.

Modi launches projects worth over Rs 68,000 crore in Odisha

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated and dedicated several development projects in Sambalpur in Odisha. These projects valued at over Rs 68,000 crore comprise of energy, infrastructure, and education. The Prime Minister visited the model of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sambalpur and attended a photo exhibition during the event. In a first, Jharkhand all set to launch air ambulance from seven locations

According to Sinha, one can reschedule the flight with a precondition that it does not affect the bookings of other applicants.

RANCHI: In a first-of-its-kind initiative to boost medical transport facilities to higher medical centers in emergency-like situations, the Jharkhand government will roll out air ambulance service from April 28. According to officials, the ambulance will be ready within two hours of booking and it will be equipped with emergency equipment and doctors.

“This is first of its kind initiative taken by any state in the country. The air ambulance service will be launched by Chief Minister Hemant Soren on April 28,” said Civil Aviation Director (Operations) Captain S P Sinha. Keeping the safety of patients in mind, the air ambulance will have a multi-engine facility to avoid any glitches during the transportation of patients.

According to Sinha, one can reschedule the flight with a precondition that it does not affect the bookings of other applicants. Apart from Ranchi, air ambulance services will also be made available at Deoghar, Dumka, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Giridih and Jamshedpur, he said.

The destinations specified so for the service are New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Varanasi, Lucknow and Tirupati. To avail of the service, one can contact 918210594073 and 0651-4665515.

Service charges range between a minimum of Rs 3 lakh for Ranchi to Kolkata and up to a maximum of Rs 8 lakh for Ranchi to Tirupati or Chennai. For routes other than specified destinations, Rs 1.10 lakh will be charged on an hourly basis.

Officials claimed that though air ambulance is already available on call, the involvement of the government will make the service reliable and dependable. It will reduce hidden charges, they claimed. They also informed us that they are planning to ensure that at least one air ambulance remains static in Ranchi to ferry people from any district to required destinations in the shortest possible time.

The official informed that they have tied up with multiple agencies offering air ambulance services, who have been empanelled with the state government. Earlier in January this year, Soren had assured that the state is making continuous efforts to strengthen the health facilities in Jharkhand.

6 Planets Conjunction in Capricorn

All six planets are coming into conjunction in one single sign. This isn’t a common phenomenon, but nonetheless, it has occurred at times in the past. This time it's the Sun, Mercury, Moon, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn coming together in Capricorn on Feb. 12, 2021. For so many planets to be constituted in one sign, it is usually not considered auspicious as they do not indicate anything good, as only bad things come to the forefront because of this.

On many occasions in the past, I have seen something similar with respect to various signs. Some of the conjunctions that occurred in the past were:-

In the sign Virgo (Oct 10,1950) and where Ketu, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Sun had conjunction. Some of the events that occurred are mentioned below:-

25 January – Election Commission is established.

26 January – Dr Rajendra Prasad moves into Rashtrapati Bhavan as the first President of India.

On February 5, 1962, a solar eclipse was witnessed in the sun sign Leo where all the other planets (Sun, Mercury, Moon, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn) were in conjunction. The major events that took place in 1962, Some of the Events occurred are mentioned below:-

On December 26, 2019, there was a solar eclipse wherein Saturn, the Moon, Ketu, Jupiter, Ketu, the Sun, and Mercury were in conjunction. Some of the events that occurred are mentioned below:

In chapter 17, “Planetary Conjunctions” has a special mention in the Brihat Samhita. According to the text, conjunctions are mainly of four types:

Bheda, the conjunction occurs when the disc of one of the planets has been eclipsed by another planet.

Ullekha, the conjunction occurs when the disc of one planet rubs against the disc of another planet.

Amsumardana, the conjunction occurs when the light of the planets is mixed with one another.

Asavya, where the conjunction occurs when the planets are distinctly apart from each other.

Various results have been attributed to the above conjunctions. There will be a drought inland. Friends and family will turn into enemies when the planets are in Bheda conjunction.

And when the planets are in Ullekha conjunction, good food will be in abundance, but there’s a possibility of war in the land wherein the princes will quarrel with their enemies.

Lastly, when the planets are in A Sumardana conjunction, kings will be involved in different wars, whereas mankind will suffer from weapons, hunger, diseases, etc. The rulers will be in conflict with each other if the conjunction is that of the Asavya (Apasavya Planet).

According to the new Moon chart, as stated above, the conjunction of Feb 2021 has occurred in the sun sign Capricorn. The degrees of various planets are given below,

Sun at 29.07 degrees

Moon at 29.07 degrees

Mercury at 22.07 degrees

Venus at 18.38 degrees

Jupiter at 18.28 degrees

Saturn at 12.23 degrees

In astrology, planets seem to be at war within the 1-degree orb. ASAVYA conjunction refers to those planets which are beyond the 1-degree orb. The sun is also known as the Akranda planet when it is in the mid-heaven, which is the 10th house. Similarly, when it’s either in the east or west, it's known as the Paura and Yayin planets, respectively.

The Paura planets are mainly Mercury, Jupiter, and Saturn.

The Moon is said to be known as the Akranda Planet.

The rest of the other planets like Ketu, Mars, Rahu, and Venus fall under the category of Yayin planets.

In conjunction, sufferings will be caused to the objects represented by the planet that defeats. But there’s a chance that objects may prosper if planets manage to conquer them.

If Paura planets defeat one another in conjunction, citizens and rulers will have to suffer. Also, if Yayin planets defeat one another in conjunction or an Akranda planet defeats another, misery will be suffered by the objects that have been represented by the defeated planet. This remains true in the case of either a Paura or a Yayin planet defeat in conjunction or vice versa.

On Feb 12, 2021, Jupiter and Venus were within the 1-degree orb. In comparison with Venus, Jupiter is lesser in degree. Conjunction between the two happens only once a year, making it a rare phenomenon considering too many planets are in conjunction.

An ancient Indian Kingdom called the Kingdom of Kosala also known as कोसल राज्य in Sanskrit was corresponding with the region of Awadh ( presently in Uttar Pradesh ), Kalinga ( a historical region in India) which is generally defined as the eastern coastal region between the two rivers i.e Mahanadi and Godavari. However, its boundary has fluctuated with the rulers of its territory. The main territory of Kalinga now encompasses a huge part of Odisha and the northern part of Andhra Pradesh.

The Kalinga region also includes a part of present-day Chhattisgarh to its widest extent.

The Vanga was an ancient kingdom and the geopolitical division of the Ganges delta in the Indian subcontinent. It is one of the namesakes of the Bengal region, located in southern Bengal, with the main region including present-day Southern West Bengal (India) and southwestern Bangladesh. Prominently, vanga resides in the epics and tales of ancient India as well as in the history of Sri Lanka.

Anguttara Nikaya mentions Vasta also called Vasma ( Pali & Ardhamagadhi) Vaccha, literally meaning “calf” as one of the 16 Mahajanapadas ( Great Kingdoms) of Uttarakatha in ancient India.

Vasta or Vasma was in correspondence with the territory of Odeon Allahabad in UP, at the confluence of the rivers Ganga and Yamuna.

The Matsya Kingdom (300–700 BC) was one of the Solasa 16th great kingdoms (Mahajanapadas) that were described in the Hindu epic Mahabharata and also in the Buddhist text Anguttara Nikaya during the Vedic era.
