"Once upon a time... there lived a boy named Timothy Hunter. He seemed like a very usual sort of boy. Except. There was one thing that was not usual..."

A quick note about Neil Gaiman.
So, in one of my recent essay posts (this one), I made a reference to comic book author and novelist Neil Gaiman. I will not make it a secret that I've been a fan of his work for years. Not the most prolific reader of his works, but I love Sandman, and a pile of his other DC stories and runs that I've read, not to mention the iconic Marvel ones. Plus, American Gods is awesome, and has heavily informed how I view adaptations of classic mythology. His writing is honestly quite evocative and enjoyable, as well as deeply thought-provoking.
Which is why I was heartbroken to hear about the allegations last summer...and absolutely and inexorably disgusted to see the full report from one of his victims (God, that's harder to say than I thought it be), his former nanny Scarlett Pavlovich. I'm a firm believer in separating the art from the artist in the vast majority of cases, and I'm not going to mention Gaiman in name after this post. Because I love his work, I really do. And I'll continue to love his work for what it is. But the author himself is disgraced, and what he's done is deplorable. I won't proliferate Ms. Pavlovich's trauma here, but it's...bad. It's incredibly bad. It horrifies me that something so incredibly vile could be proliferated by someone who's known for such progressive ideals and stories. The idea that that could live within a person like that...it's frightening. It's sickening.
It's sad.

Jon Foster, gothic, atmospheric horror art covers from "Hunter: The Age of Magic" featuring Timothy Hunter from the Books of Magic series, 2001 - 2003
It should be noted that whereas Neil Gaiman originated the character, he had nothing to do with this particular series.
