That is so fair lmao, it's pretty impossible to get a handle on what goes on in any one of these games without experiencing them and they are very much not for everyone.

Hmm, there's plenty of directions I could take this in, ones that are more relevant and less talked-about, but most of them are not fresh on my mind now that it's been a while since I finished them all so I think I'll spend it on the one that gripped me so hard initially I nearly had to drop the game to go make art about it immediately: the coathanger angel.

Asakura's chapter of Slow Damage is... dubious, and not handled very gracefully. But one thing it did give us was this beautiful piece of imagery even divorced from anything else that happens in his segment. I don't know why it hit me so hard to be honest; most of my thoughts on it are nonsense that have nothing to do with the actual themes or narrative intent. But it's about the concept of it, the visual, I'll figure out if it means anything coherent by the time I finish writing this probably

For the tiniest bit of context [spoilers, if someone like Muse is reading this *squint*], the chapter in question follows a pediatric doctor with a fixation on cherub imagery and culminates in surgically attaching a set of homemade wings to Towa's back to "make an angel."

The first time we see the wings it's just this glimpse, peeking out of the exam room drawer with no context, while Towa offhand wonders if they're a tool or something. I can't say for certain it was the intention since it's never described as such, but to me the apparent color, gauge, and corners of the wire felt obvious that they came from metal coat hangers.

The leaps my brain made here the first time did not end up at all correct when the chapter's mysteries were later laid out. But when presenting an image of bent wire hangers in a medical setting, especially one with an intense focus on children? There's some immediate associations there, at least from an American perspective. You could have given me a year to ponder it and still don't think I would have figured out where this storyline was going to go, but I was truly surprised that at no point did any character even guess it could relate to unsanctioned abortions.

And then there's Towa — our patron saint of bad decisions, apathetic and selfish. His offer to become the angel is still self-serving, sure; he set out to grant Asakura's wish even if it had been something completely different, because that's just what he does. But we see him taking distinct interest in the little boy the doctor keeps around, in a way he really doesn't even with the other euphoria models. Him taking Hayato's place for the operation is specifically an uncharacteristic act of protection, which of course has some implications that we get greater insight into in the true route later on.

When Towa is laid out with the wings complete, it's possibly the most striking image in the game. It's already powerful on its own at the time, but finishing the game and getting all of Towa's backstory just leaves even more scattered metaphors for me to scrounge up and drape over the picture.

A broken person being recreated in the warped image of something holy. Innocence of snow white angel wings now reduced to skeletal remains, its leftover feathers bedraggled and bloodstained. The juxtaposition of delighting in excruciating pain while being turned into an image of purity, an object of worship for these men whose dark desires consume them until laid as sacrifices on his altar. Jagged edges of twisted, torn wire jutting out from the bastard child of a powerful man's mistress, whose birth we never really learn the circumstances of.

There's a CG of the finished product that inspired the art in my header, but I'm probably using that one in a later ask and I'm also not sure if it will be too sensitive for tumblr's poor image automod, so I'll save it to avoid two posts getting nuked in the event that it is.

It speaks to the depths of Beckett Mariner's trauma and the self worth issues that have stemmed from the events in her life, that her entire arc on the show has pretty much been Boimler's one episode plot in "In the Cradle of Vexilion".

Because at a base line, they're having the same crisis at these moments. It's just that Boimler is having that crisis without any of Mariner's trauma or past experience, and so T'Lynn's logical explanation of the situation was free to sink in without being too personal, too horrifying, too cold. It's not too hard for him, he gets to have distance from this that Mariner cannot, distance that's she's genuinely not capable of.

Her backstory isn't surprising, the fandom had mostly guessed way before they confirmed it that she'd served in the war, but it still hits.

All of her walking contradictions make sense. She is sabotaging herself to remain an ensign because she doesn't feel she's worth much more if Sito wasn't. It's a punishment. But it's also genuinely the comfort zone that she wants, if she's the proverbial metaphorical red shirt of the starfleet pecking order then there's no way her decisions can kill other people she's in charge of. She has lived in a space of simultaneous comfort and self distain as an ensign for a while now, and that's not something that you just drop.

I like that this all started to fall apart for her in the second half of the season, she managed to deal with it for a while before it all got just too much and she went Too far to the point that everybody who cares about her was deeply worried.

It's also fun that both Boimler and Mariner had this crisis this season, but they never could have helped each other through it. They both had other people talk them through it/knock some sense into them. They are besties, but in this situation they'd have only fed each other's fears.

Warrior Cats Sketch Dump 3: Birchfall and Whitewing Edition (2022-2025)

Hi hello, Prism here. If you follow this blog or have seen a few art pieces of mine it'll probably come as no surprise who my favorite warrior cats are (Birchfall and Whitewing).

I figured that, for this compilation, I could narrate some though processes behind these sketches (and two finished art pieces) and what not .

My first time drawing these guys! This piece was made as a cover for a spotify playlist of mine (about them, of course)

An "attempted" dive at realism (where fur is concerned) and mimicking warrior cat covers. This would have been for a theoretical Birchfall novella titled "Birchfall's Passage".

Sketch of Birchfall I did to get a better taste for how I wanted to design him. With this one I started to implement the "freckles".

Another sketch, this time he's spooked. Context was Dark Forest but I don't remember more beyond that.

Art piece sketch for my Third Cat Whitewing AU that I desperately need to revamp TvT

Context: Whitewing has had enough with Starclan omitting the truth and no longer wants to enact her part of the prophecy. Yellowfang tries to reason with her (they somehow contact her don't ask me how Starclan works) but Whitewing stands her ground, having none of it.

It's the family, again :) Tired and exhausted parents rest with their newborns Ivykit and Dovekit

Their friendship is so intriguing to me, because we only see the most of it during PO3. Makes me wonder a few things: did Birchfall become more arrogant and hotheaded because of his friendship with Berrynose? Did he influence Berrynose the same way? Did they only bring out each others negative traits? How deep was their friendship, or was it one of superficiality?

In any case, Berrynose had a huge hatred against the warriors who trained in the Dark Forest, and I think that's what causes the friendship to break off for good.

Berrynose is rambling about something, but Birchfall isn't to sure if he agrees this time...

My headcanon is is that the older they get, the sappier they become

You expect me to believe that these two didn't do anything when it came to protecting their vulnerable grandchildren when Imposter Ashfur was prisoner in Shadowclan camp?

(Especially since Birchfall was Ashfur´s first victim! There could have been a convo between Birchfall, Bristlefrost and Shadowsight but alas..)

I gotta write a fic where they bring Shadowsight to Thunderclan after they become aware of how he was treated
