Thinking about a SBR!au Boostle.

Booster as Johnny (Booster Goldstar?) ; the disgraced ex-athlete trying to get his old life of fame and valour back. Blames self/feels quilty over the death of a sibling. Goes by sport-nickname. A jock(ey). Star-themed design. Shoots from hands. Skeets as Tusk!!!

Meets

Ted as Gyro; has a strained relationship with his father who wants him to uphold the family tradition/business while he has his own ideas on how things should work. Self-proclaimed funnyguy, inventor of schemes. Kind of a mentor figure/older, over-all more knowledged on things. Technical/tenchique-based skills he's honed to perfection.

NOTE: their heights and color schemes don't quite match which bugs me, but they work better this way, tho' they share some stuff the other way around too e.g. :

Gyro!Booster: goes by different name (doesn't like real name), taller of the two

Johnny!Ted: athlete but held back by physical disablity, strained relationship with dad, blue colorscheme, shorter of the two, fatter ass

thank you for your service. for anyone seeing this post who may not go here, here's a brief list of gay as hell shit that these two have been up to since the 80s:

there is more than one universe where booster has broken every rule of time travel to try and undo ted's death and gotten himself and also the rest of the world in insane amounts of trouble because he couldn't deal with the idea of living in a world without ted in it

in one of those universes, we got time travel shenanigans solely so that neither ted nor booster would die alone (and would be holding the other's hand when they died) (panels below cause they make me insane. injustice 2 is bad but this ruled)

canonically a couple in one universe (thanks for that one teen titans go???)

this fucked up parallel with injustice/main universe (closest people they have to each other at any given moment)

there's a whole comic where ted and booster are having a weird breakup/jealousy arc (extreme justice) because booster feels like ted is replacing him with a new friend. same issue where booster is angst-ing about this ted and said friend are out at a bar where they get mistaken for a gay couple and almost hate crimed. which could mean nothing.

Tora teaches home ec and AP euro and Bea teaches foreign languages and government classes. Bruce is the principal (his ass knows Booster is lying)

lol okay uh the overwhelming majority of what I read is jaytim that's rated Explicit, so there's, ya'know, a lot of patterns in there that I've self selected for, but attempting to get into a more meaningful answer, I really like the way that fanfic repeatedly digs up old shit and uses it as a catalyst for characters to gain greater intimacy with each other. The constant reinvention and re-contextualization of Jason and Tim's various fights is neat to me

A tiny detail in canon that you want more people to appreciate:

But that feels like cheating so I also want people to appreciate the asymmetrical aspects of the OG spoiler outfit, because I adore it so. I am a SUCKER for shoulder pads/spikes and 80s asymmetrical outfits.

That's... actually pretty hard to answer.

The first online community I truly got involved with is City of Heroes. Loved playing the game when it was live, and I role played in the Homecoming servers for fourteen hours a day, seven days a week, for about five years. I still play every once in a while too! If you see Dread Captain Bones, David Drakal, or Cowboy Cline around, those are me :3 The only issue I have with saying it's this one is that I'm not entirely sure this counts as a fandom?? It really is more a role playing community than anything like a fandom for the game itself, most people only very lightly engage with the setting and it's considered a tad crass to get any of the named canonical characters involved with your character's story lines.

We could very technically count Naruto simply because that was the first one I ever tried to find fanfic for but uhhhhh... I started with ff.net with a super dark E rated fic because I thought E meant for Everyone and bounced off it so hard. I'm very sorry geisha AU naru-sasu fic I read when I was like thirteen, I tried so hard to like you, but my PTSD was not having it lmao

There's also half decent arguments to be made for Marvel comics, Doctor Who, or Vampire the Masquerade simply because my parents are/were such massive nerds lmao

Both of them did a lot of LARP and one of my favorite pictures of my mom is her as either the Sheriff or the Prince of our city ripping someone's heart out via a sponge soaked with fake blood :3 so yeah I def grew up learning about the clans and the lore and such

And this is very much a Marvel household lol My parents used to do story time with me about the X-men, and like they are completely accepting of my metal head and queer stuff, but I feel like it hurts my dad's soul just a little bit that I ended up being so into DC and so uninterested in Marvel. Whenever we talk about some of my (not romance related) plotlines for my DC fics he'll substitute in vaguely equivalent Marvel characters because he simply cannot be asked to dedicate braincells to DC characters lmao

Me: "I'm really looking forwards to writing out how the super geniuses and stuff push the limits of what Jason and Tim did to the diseases."

My Dad, knowing FULL WELL that I am not including any Marvel characters in this fic: "Oh yeah, Reed Richards would go nuts trying to figure that shit out."

My dad also collected Doctor Who episodes, like the ones from 1963 all the way to modernity, I grew up watching the black and white stuff, and for sure tumblr did expose me to Superwholock, through I never felt like I was a part of that.

It might actually be DC comics itself that's my first fandom! I just never really interacted with any sort of online or fandom space directly until Boostle dragged me into DC fandom's sphere of influence.

//JLI COLLEGE AU PT. 1

Here goes my first ramblings about the JLI.

They are all in college btw! Well, university technically, but uni and college are the same in the United States anyway. They go to Gotham State University btw!

Starting with good ol’ BOOSTER!!

His major is gonna be in Media Communications!! Mainly because in the comics he is such a big sucker for self advertising and literally anything to do with socializing and/or public relations!

He’s also the star quarterback for the university’s football team! Booster and Guy r frat boys together,,

Apparently GSU’s football team is called the FUCKIN Gotham Knights in canon??

Booster roomies with Ted too (haha “and they were roommates”)!! I’ll talk more about these two when I get to Ted’s part.

TED KORD

I feel like Teddy would major in MET (Mechanical Engineering Technology)!! It’s not hands on as regular mech engineering as it mainly focuses on development n testing w manufacturing support and it’s kinda right up Ted’s alley because of that

Back to Booster and Ted being roommates! They are both juniors in college with Ted being older as his birthday is May 10th while Booster’s is December 29th.

Booster bitching about Ted staying up all night during midterms and having his desktop brightness maxed out while he’s trying to sleep, or ranting to Guy whenever Ted forgets to take care of himself and makes an absolute mess in their dorm n leaving Booster to clean it up for him (he complains but he actually likes taking care of Ted lmao)

Or more domestic interactions,, like Booster and Ted binge watching shitty comedies (or those REAL garbage high school musical types) and getting drunk off their ass while munching on some leftover pizza n passing out all tangled up in the living room.

My friend and I were on discord call yesterday and we were discussing the JLI BOYBAND stuff. He said that Booster would constantly have to find a sub in for drums because Ted sometimes ends up getting swamped with work from his major but would end up placing the band on hiatus because he doesn’t wanna perform without Ted.

Whenever they have their petty arguments and ignore each other I’d like to think Booster crashes over at Scott’s place until Barda kicks him out for staying too long and forces him to make up w Ted,,

“Technically, we didn’t go alone,” Booster groaned, rolling his head so he could gaze where they were heading. “Alone would mean only one person. Teddy and I make two people. See?”

“Hera’s mercy,” she griped. “And so, you both though going alone without me or the JL was a good idea?!”

Ted hummed, lifting his head. “Well, none of you were, and Boos and I thought it’d look good on our hero resumes!” he grunted. “Probably…”

“You are both so ridiculously idiotic!” She stepped over a broken slab of concrete, hefting the two men as if they weighed nothing. “Next time, do not do anything this stupid without me! I would be broken if either of you got hurt and I did not protect you!”

Ted kept his mouth shut save the “Yes ma’am” but Booster didn’t like to feel embarrassed and ashamed, so he shifted and asked, “Do we even weigh anything to you? Because I’m two-fifteen and Teddy’s gotta be two-hundred.”

“I am one-eighty-four! Thank you very much!” Ted retorted. “I’m compacted muscle!”

“Mhm, suuuuuuuure. It’s not that extra love on your side then?”

“I do not have love handles, you stupid giant, overgrown--”

“Both of you shut up!” she howled. “By Hera, I am going to kill you when we get home!”

Remember when I made a post about Gold Beetle? Well, for now, it seems I was wrong (and I’m so happy about it!).

Honestly, this love child looks adorable.

She says she comes from a long line of heroes and time-travelers, and I’ve read some people say that it’s Ted and Michael’s descendants but no-

If you pay close attention, none of those are their children. It’s like the Flash or Green Lantern’s mantle, it just passes to someone younger who can and is qualified to do the job. Well, here they aren’t blood related, any of them, BUT Gold Beetle is technically the first of her own “generation”/”mantle”. She’s Michael and Ted’s love child, shhh.

Gold Beetle is like Blue & Gold’s baby, because she has B.B. and Skeets. So if you ask me, this is as if Ted had a child with Michael. This is like uniting two houses. This is like marriage.

Also, the TIME BUBBLE. So cute.

Sadly, this ends up too sudden and leaves you wanting more of Gold Beetle. She’s funny and adorable, makes me think of a combination of Blue&Gold’s personalities.

I hope next time we see her (Flash #769), she keeps being fun and one of my favs. And that they give us Boostle because of this, ofc.
