i support all pess-es but i particularly like borzoi pess because i like to imagine edgeworth having absolutely zero sense of humour about his ridiculous dog and being incensed every time phoenix calls her a weird horse or puts a googly-eyed sock on his hand etc. which only makes phoenix do it more often

Was thinking about Hisuian Zoroark design earlier at work [as I often do] . Initially thought that Spice probably shouldn't have the long ears + borzoi face I draw him with since arctic animals typically have short ears to conserve body heat; on second consideration tho I think it might actually make more sense if Hisuian Zoroarks aren't at all suited to their environment since their whole deal is that that they couldn't survive in the icelands.. would also add to the uncanny valley vibe they have if they look completely out of place in their environment so. I think Hisuian zoroarks should look like maned wolves or smthn with fuckoff long legs and ears

Pet! SAHSRAU (part 2)
Reader's pronouns: -
Warnings: implied cult behaviour (?), possible out-of-character
Notes: reverse isekai, characters turn into animals, Stellaron Hunters
------------------------------
Borzoi! Kafka who likes to annoy any other pet that's not in her "family", especially Welt and Himeko. She doesn't provoke anyone when you're around, but once you're outdoors she "accidentally" bumps against Himeko or "unintentionally" upsets Welt's water bowl (you knew that she was behind all of that anyway). Kafka seems to have a particular fondness for Caelus and Stelle. The way she stops bothering Himeko when Caelus wants to play with her, or the soft look in her eyes when Stelle squeezes herself in between her and Welt to stop them from starting a fight. Sometimes Kafka tries to steal the twins away when they're cuddling and napping with their "family", but has never succeeded...yet. The twins' "family" is not happy when they wake up to the sight of Kafka picking up one of the twins by the scruff and taking them away. Kafka will then come to you for help, circling you and looking at the raccoon twins. She knows that you'll find a way to bring the twins to her.
Russian Blue! Silver Wolf who loves your electronic gadgets. She's exactly the type of cat that insists on sitting upon the keyboard of your computer or laptop. Countless times you had to remove her from your room forcefully so you could study/work properly. She'll yowl, pace, try to open the door or squeeze through the crack between the floor and the door, but nothing works. Expect an angry Silver Wolf sitting on her spot in the cat tree, glaring at you silently for the rest of the day unless you give her headpats and cuddles (treats won't work either). Silver Wolf definitely competes with March 7th as to which "family" gains more attention than the other. Blade and Welt will collect Silver Wolf and March respectively from your sides if the look on your face tells them that they're being too noisy, what with Silver Wolf's constant hissing and March's sharp barks.
German Shepherd! Blade who competes with the other pets for your attention, but only secretly. While the others are busy fighting over who gets to sit next to you on the couch, he'll sense that you had a bad day the minute you return home. The sad look in your eyes and your slumped posture basically said it all. Blade will follow you to your room and wait by the door to see if you wanted his company. He decides that you do when you start rubbing at your tear-filled eyes. Blade will sit by your side and nuzzle against your arm till you look at him, and you swear there's a softness in his eyes, so sudden and rare, that just makes you feel much better. You sigh and hug him, he acts indifferent but deep inside he enjoys your embrace. Blade will starting growling at any other pet who dares interrupt his time with you, even if they're just passing by the room.

Kinda obsessed with the guan being on Shen Dogqiu's ass
I started doing it with my horse art because it doesn't rlly make sense to tie a horses mane up in a single bun since it grows all the way down its neck, so just putting it at the tail is much simpler and looks clearer (and irl it's common to put draft breeds tails in buns with very cute decorations at the top)

imagine the twins getting more fascinated with their baby brother as he gets a bit older, their attention is caught when he was trying to sit and crawl, and they try their best to help him even if they don't know how to treat such a delicate kid. and then they try to help him walk, with one twin on a different extreme and encouraging their brother to walk to where the other is standing.
AAAAAAAAAAH ANON YOU ARE A GENIUS
Ru and Lu really love their little brother! Their parents did their best to prepare the two for another child soon settling in the household, so there is hardly any jealousy in twins. If anything they have so many questions about the baby, asking mom and dad to compare how was it when they were little, asking for their baby pictures, asking to make similar baby pictures of Cyrus... Despite him being so little they like spending time with him (especially after growing more curious from the stories their elder cousine told them of the time she watched them growing from babies to what they are now). At the time they could spend hours standing at the crib and just staring at him. Ask mom to carry him around a little. Showing him everything in the winery, introducing to every maid and worker (if they are outside and under watchful eyes of their parents or Adelinde), even if the little boy doesn't understand anything yet.
While inside and done with classes and too lazy to go and explore the ground around the manor for the Nth time, they like to hang out either in their dad's home office or with their mom and clearly their baby brother is with one of the parents. They feel a great sense of responsibility when they are trusted to watch Cyrus (even if Diluc or their mom is still present), and try to include him in their games as much as possible.
They are there to witness him crawling and sitting for the first time, watching him moving around in fascination. Wow, he is growing.
When the first attempts to stand up start though, they are at such loss. Especially when no one else is in the room. They heard that mom and dad helped them a little to stand up and they assume that that's what they are supposed to do immediately too. Maybe they do argue a little, trying to figure out how to assist him, debating whether it's better to offer him a hand or just take him by the waist and put him on his feet. I can honestly see their dog coming in the middle of that 'battle' and just let the baby grab onto the fur on its side, nudging his back with it's long snoot (I remind you it's going to be a borzoi) and by the time the twins notice anything, their brother is already standing, tightly holding onto their pet. Isn't it funny? 🤣
Realizing they both lost this battle, they instead opt to try and coax him into walking. One would help to free the fur from little fingers and hold them to keep the little body straight, while the other twin would sit just maybe a few feet away, reaching out his hands and encouraging Cy to waddle to him.
The pride with which they are going to tell their parents of what happened is unmeasurable.

“Ok Borzoi so why don’t you like Dirkjohn” - somebody, who didn’t ask, but I want to ramble.
I guess it’s funny as a crack ship but in actuality, i feel it would fall incredibly flat and only be viable in an unhealthy way. Canonically, they've got little to nothing to do with each other, and their relationship branches on bullshit in the epilogues and HS2 which just isn't a good judge of Dirk and Johns character so much as a butcher of it.
First, lets get their characters down. Dirk, very introspective to the point of destruction, who’s prone to rambling, overcomplicating and accentuating things in a way to keep up his aura of coolness, of being “totally in control and all knowing”, and sort of socially awkward, failing quite a few times to read jokes as jokes.
John, upfront, more likely to push forward without really thinking, keeps things simple and asks not much, and very much a protagonist figure. He’s blunt, he’s teasing in his humour, and he likes to take the mic out of people and make his own fun.
Dirk is very active. He's willing to go through many hoops and talk around himself, and he needs a conversational partner willing to spar him on it, however, John is anything but that. He's upfront, he brings a hypothetical hammer down into the bush that dirk is walking around. Jake will indulge, so will a lot of the alpha kids, but the beta kids by far are more blunt and straight forward. John would see whatever bullshit Dirk is pulling and think it's stupid and ornery, and shut him down..Dirk would go "okay" and then either try to counterpoint to be shut down, or walk away. This conversation is a relaly good point of reference for how it would go. Note how roxy is going through the general alpha kids bullshit theatrics and ornery, and john instead of getting it, cuts it down with "no thats stupid", and doesnt get the joke.

dirk wouldn't know how to handle someone actually being completely straight up and refusing to humor him, being open about not giving a shit about whatever tangent dirk is on.  it might humble him which he definitely needs sometimes but most of the time itd just make him go "ok. whatever man im going to jake's"
Tumblr media
(art by my boyfriend)
Nobody puts up with dirk and jakes bullshit as much as dirk and jake do each other
DIRK: "I'll get this blue gumball son of a bitch this time. He's gonna be so perplexed by the bullshit im about to spew he's got no idea the storm that's wafting in on the wind."
and then john says ratio and dirk is reduced to ash.
John and Jake also have a bad habit of comparison in a negative sense, like how he did with davesprite. Jake does it out loud with no regard for others, and John is the type to drop a single “x has already made this joke” because his preference of Dave is so much stronger than Dirk. Dirk wouldn’t be able to beat Dave to the ironic punchline because most likely, Dave has already said it in a language John understands, and John has made fun of him for it already. John doesn’t have patience for long winded games, if he’s not in the mood he’ll just fuck off.
Personally feel like John would be acutely aware that Dirk hates when he shuts him down, but he just genuinely cannot sit here and listen to a “worse version of dave talk like hes pretending to be rose. I just cant.i don’t have it in me.”
I mean I think they’d be funny somewhat, but they would not be happy together at all it would be awkward as hell. Dirk needs someone to pull him out of his bullshit but John just won’t do that. He won’t consider it really that much. They could have funny moments, but the toxicity of their potential relationship sours most of it for me. Dirk is pretty fucking intense in a lot of ways, and hes prone to being a lot.
the alpha kids in general are just way intense due to their fucking isolation whatever thety smoked in those years made them volatile like fucking potent like a chili peppers but thats words for another ramble.
John just isn’t able to match Dirk. He doesn't think enough, he's just going with the flow and dirk needs someone who can either match him on an intellectual level or someone who can match him in an interest way. John just wouldn’t take the relationship seriously enough, which would lead to Dirk trying to figure out something that isn’t there to really figure out. John matches well with someone who has known him for a while and doesn’t have a specific way they want things to go.

thank you for such a thorough answer to my question about COI!! i don’t know anything at all about dog breeding, all of mine have come off the streets lol. it is BONKERS to me that the breed average for collies is 40%. so does that mean that most of the collies i see out in the world are kind of related? also i know you said w dobermans there’s not really any way to breed away from it, is it the same with collies? are breeders working to move that average % down?
thank you for sending me an ask that tickled the 'adhd special interests' section of my brain lmao
so are all collies related - yes and no. yes, in the sense that they all descend from the same ancestors and share genetics. no, in the sense that on paper they're not related. for example: stellina comes from a long-time breeder of show dogs on the US east coast. @as-old-roads audrey (my beloved) was a rehome who originally came from a midwest puppy mill. our dogs do not have any shared members of the family tree for several generations back. they're, at best, extremely distant cousins. and when we compared their DNA test results... they were 50% genetic matches for each other. that's not from being actual relatives - that's just because the collie gene pool is small enough that if you take a random scoop, you overlap with someone else 🤷
is there a way to breed away from high COI - not really, which is the tricky part of it. COI will always accumulate over time, meaning that as long as no new blood is introduced, each generation will have higher COI than the last. the way to combat this is A) start with a very large population of founding dogs (obv not an option for collies anymore, as the breed was developed in the 1800s); B) allow new blood through an "open studbook" (anyone with a collie-ish dog can breed their dog and have the offspring registered as collies if it's determined they look enough like a pure collie); or C) dedicated outcross programs (specifically seeking out unrelated collie-type dogs to cross to pure collies and then breeding those offspring back to pure collies to try and add more diversity without sacrificing the breed type)
the first option (large founding population) isn't viable anymore - we know that the original collies were developed from the native working farm dogs in whats now the UK, and then people said 'hey these dogs are pretty' and started breeding them specifically for bench/show moreso than herding, which is what makes the collies such a (IMO) lovely blend of herding and companion/family dog. we know other dogs were crossed in during development, but we don't have records of what: we've heard rumors that borzoi were added, and gordon setter, among others, but we can't say for sure. but regardless, this ship has sailed.
the second two options - the open studbook and outcross problems - are workable in theory, however they're not magic fix-alls. while COI/diversity is very important, it's also not the end-all be-all to health (as evidence by the fact that collies as a breed are doing really good health-wise). however, the biggest positive is also the biggest negative: you're diluting what's already in the gene pool. collies have high COI, but they also have very unique temperaments - they're very gentle, polite, exceptional with children, watchful but non-aggressive, intelligent, driven but not obsessive. i love the collie personality - that's what makes them collies, and not just random fluffy herding dogs. the idea of bringing in non-collies to the studbooks and creating generations of dogs that didn't have that same unique collie personality is so, so sad for me to think about. and yes in theory you can try and breed back to the traits you like, but what if you've now introduced, say, resource guarding into the gene pool? or fearfulness? or a health issue like DCM? there's such a fine line as to what makes a breed a breed, and it is very easy to deviate from that, even accidentally.
are breeders working to move the COI down - 😬 ymmv but most of the breeders i've talked to have a very "well it's not a problem so i'm not concerned" type of thinking about it. which, again, yeah the dogs are healthy now, but i think it shows a serious lack of foresight to not be concerned. but, these high COI show dogs are producing very consistent puppies who are doing consistently well at shows, so that's whats being bred. and that means that the breeders who are passionate about breeding and showing The Collie, and the breeders who want to do outcrosses and open studbooks, tend to have very, very little overlap. i've not seen any outcross programs that are worth following IMO (and i don't consider "old time scotch collie" to be outcross programs, as those OTSC dogs are supposed to be significantly different. if you're not aiming to keep your dogs part of the original breed, then it's not an outcross, it's a different breed).
i would love to see collie breeders and the collie breed club actually work together and focus on specific, dedicated outcross projects. or a formal procedure for allowing new blood into the studbooks. but unless something happens to really light a fire under their asses, i doubt it'll happen. so for now i'll stick with my worryingly-high COI dogs, with the temperaments and health that i love, and hope that the breed manages to defy the odds and stay healthy.
