Tech as a father Chapter 54

There will be a lot of what a lot say will be fillers. But I just write down random moments. Also when a chapter will be with an Episode, I do not feel comfortable sort of writing it differently. So I may just skip then, from a point to the next when it is important.

Chapter 54: The GAR of stuffed animals

Tech, ever the multitasker, expertly balanced his responsibilities as a father and a soldier. As he moved around, handling various tasks, he allowed Orion to explore his surroundings, even if it meant occasional attempts to grab Tech's face or adjust his goggles. The unpredictable nature of caring for an infant seemed to blend seamlessly with Tech's efficient approach to his duties.

As Orion's eyelids drooped with the fatigue of exploration, Tech's smile softened. Carefully cradling his son, he made his way to the bunk, the bent breastfeeding pillow ready to provide a snug and secure spot for Orion's rest. Despite the usual resistance to the railing, Tech executed the task with practiced quietness, ensuring that the transition from exploration to slumber remained undisturbed. With Orion settled, Tech took a moment to observe the peaceful scene, marvelling at the contrast between the energetic curiosity of a waking infant and the serene repose of a sleeping one. The blend of parental duties and soldierly precision had become a harmonious symphony in the unique rhythm of Tech's life.

Tech's fingers danced over the datapad's interface as he composed an encrypted message to Amanda, updating her on Orion's latest culinary adventures. He detailed how their son displayed a clear dislike for the Bekka beet puree, creating a playful narrative around Orion's discerning taste buds. The message was infused with a touch of humour, showcasing Tech's analytical mind even in the midst of parenting updates. As he sent the message, Tech couldn't help but anticipate Amanda's response, knowing she would likely find amusement in Orion's developing preferences. The exchange of such updates became a small yet cherished routine, reinforcing the connection between Tech and Amanda despite the physical distance that separated them. Amanda's response brought a warm smile to Tech's face as he read her words on the datapad. Despite the challenges and distance, the shared moments of Orion's growth and antics provided a sense of unity. Tech typed back a message expressing his own anticipation for their eventual reunion, acknowledging that the video updates were a small but precious way to bridge the gap between them. The exchange, while brief, carried the undercurrent of shared parenthood and the longing for the day when they could experience these moments together in person.

After another mission, the strange yet loving small family, decides to check out the local market. The marketplace bustled with activity as the squad strolled through, drawing curious glances from the locals who weren't accustomed to seeing that strange looking clones, let alone a baby adorned in miniature armour. Orion, snugly secured in his carrier on Tech's chest, seemed unfazed by the attention, his bright blue eyes wide and curious. Wrecker couldn't help but enjoy the reactions, grinning broadly as he noticed people pointing and whispering. "Hey, little buddy, you're a star!" he teased, making goofy faces to entertain Orion, who responded with a happy gurgle.

Crosshair, typically indifferent to such attention, observed the surroundings with his sharp eyes, ensuring there was no potential threat. Echo, having experience in blending in, tried to keep a low profile, but the unique sight of a baby in armour was hard to miss. He would much rather go about it quietly and unseen.

Tech, while acknowledging the attention, focused on his surroundings, scanning the market for potential supplies or information that could proof valuable later on. Amidst the glances and whispers, the squad continued their stroll, a unique family unit drawing eyes in the busy marketplace. Orion's happy babbling filled the air as he smacked his tiny hands against Tech's cheeks. Tech, undeterred by the playful assault, chuckled softly, enjoying the bonding moment with his son. The locals, witnessing the adorable interaction, couldn't help but smile at the sight of the miniature clone trooper engaging with his father.

Wrecker, noticing the attention, decided to join in the fun. "Looks like he's practicing his combat moves, Tech!" he exclaimed, earning more giggles from Orion. Crosshair smirked at the playful scene but continued to keep a vigilant eye on their surroundings. Tech, with his son's laughter echoing in his ears, couldn't help but feel a warmth in his chest. Despite the curious gazes of the marketgoers(?), the squad continued their stroll, creating a memorable scene that would be etched in the memories of those who witnessed the unique family dynamics of Clone Force 99.

But soon Wrecker spots a stall with a bunch of stuffed animals. “Tech, look at those. Orion needs them!” “Sure Orion needs them or you want them?” Crosshair asks as he follows Wrecker’s gaze. “Orion has quite enough of stuffed animals. All which are still stored away. Besides these look also rather large to have any use for Orion as of now.” Tech states matter-of-factly as he pushes his goggles up yet again.

Wrecker, undeterred by Tech's reasoning, grins widely at the bantha stuffie. "Come on, Tech, he needs a bantha buddy!" Wrecker insists, picking up the oversized plush toy and gesturing at its impressive size. "Imagine him hugging it. It's perfect!" Crosshair, with a smirk, adds, "Yeah, Tech, he's got a point. Plus, it's bigger than Orion, he'll love it." Only fueling Wrecker's resolve more.

Tech sighs, realizing he might be outnumbered in this particular decision. "Fine, get it, but only if he doesn't have trouble sleeping with it later on," he concedes, knowing that Orion's comfort is the top priority. Wrecker happily purchases the bantha stuffie, imagining the joy it will bring to Orion. As they continue their stroll through the market, Wrecker proudly carries the large plush, excited about the surprise gift for their youngest squad member.

As Orion becomes rather fussy, his tiny fists now smacking at his father’s chin, Tech moving his fingers into the carrier to check Orion’s diaper, recognizing the urgency of the situation, quickly scans the market for a suitable spot. Spotting a nearby restroom, he swiftly navigates toward it, all the while soothing Orion with a gentle sway. Once inside the restroom, Tech efficiently changes Orion's diaper, ensuring his son's comfort while managing to keep the process discreet. As he finishes up, Tech looks down at Orion with a smile, reassuring him softly. “All better little trooper.” With the diaper changed and the fussy episode resolved, they resume their stroll through the market, determined to enjoy the rest of their outing.

Wrecker's eyes light up with excitement as he spots a tauntaun stuffie at another stall. The thought of adding another plush companion to Orion's collection seems irresistible to him. Without hesitation, he picks up the tauntaun plush, comparing it to the bantha one he already acquired. Echo, amused by Wrecker's enthusiasm, raises an eyebrow and remarks, "Another one, Wrecker? Orion might end up with a whole menagerie of plush creatures."

Wrecker grins, undeterred, "Can't have too many buddies! Besides, this one's a tauntaun. It's different!" Crosshair, leaning against the stall, smirks and adds, "Well, if the kid's going to have a plush army, might as well make it diverse."

Tech shakes his head with a small smile, realizing that this impromptu plush collection is becoming a new tradition within their unique family dynamic. “Wrecker really he has no need for all those yet. He actually plays with everything his hands are able to grasp. They will collect dust, till it is safe enough for Orion to have them.” Wrecker ignoring Tech, satisfied with his choice, secures the tauntaun plush alongside the bantha one under his arm, ready to present it to Orion.

Tech looks for some kind of help to Hunter, before the whole plush thing escalates. “Nope, don’t look at me for help. I bought him a Porg one too. Smaller than those, but it is our choice how we spent our credits.” Hunter states with a grin. "And besides, this is your fault for bringing a baby to the squad." He adds, earning a laugh from the others. And Tech just sighs, they probably never going to live him that down, despite the love they have for their nephew.

As the squad continues their market exploration, Wrecker eagerly anticipates Orion's reaction to the new addition to his growing plush companions. The camaraderie and shared moments, whether in the heat of a mission or the light-heartedness of a market stroll, solidify the unbreakable bond among the clone brothers and their pint-sized addition.

Today is fun and memorable for yourself, Tony, and your three Munchkins because you will visit a Christmas market for the first time since Paxton was born almost a year ago.

Both Hudson and Orion have dressed themselves, and you're sitting on the couch while eating some fruit, watching TV, and breastfeeding your son while your husband, Tony, is whipping breakfast for himself and the twins.

''Sunshine, where did the cinnamon go?'' you hear from the kitchen. And you have just taken a bite out of a piece of apple, making you unable to answer, and it comes out in a stumbling mess.

''Where is it?'' he asked, his head poking around the corner because he didn't hear you.

''Sorry, I just took a bite of my apple! It's in the cupboard with the cereals and baking supplies, where it always is,'' you tell him, and he returns to let you know he found it so he can finish the waffles for the three of them.

It doesn't take long before the smell of waffles fills the air, and you close your eyes as you feel content. It's a nice winter day outside, and the house is filled with laughter, warmth, and an all-encompassing coziness.

Tony is making waffles, and the twins are coloring at the dining room table to keep themselves busy; you're catching up with the latest episode of RuPaul's Drag Race, and Paxton is almost falling asleep while feeding him. Perfect.

Your attention gets ripped from the TV screen when you see Tony walking into the room; his sweats hung low on his hips to reveal the perfect V leading into his pants, his abs on display, making your mouth water. He can walk around shirtless every second of every day, and you wouldn't complain for a second.

''I made one for you as well, Sunshine. Didn't want to leave my best girl out when I'm making her favorite breakfast,'' he tells you as he places the plate with the waffle next to you on the couch for easy access.

''What did I ever do to deserve such a sweet husband as you? I must have been a saint in a past life to deserve you, I swear!'' you say with a smile adorning your face. Tony leans in for a sweet kiss, leaving you hungry for more.

''Thank you for being my amazing wife, Sunshine,'' he whispers, followed by a kiss on your forehead before heading back to the kitchen to finish the waffles and have breakfast with the twins.

Paxton is a hungry boy this morning, and when he's done, you do not need to pump the excess, though you still make a mental note to bring it with you just in case.

When your fruit and waffles are gone, and Paxton is burped, it's time to head toward the Christmas market.

''I'm going to change this little hungry monster and get dressed as well, so I'll be right back,'' you tell Tony, who replies with a thumbs up as he just shoved the last piece of waffle into his mouth.

Paxton's diaper is changed in no time, and when you're dressing him in today's outfit, you feel a pair of strong arms sliding around your waist and pulling you closer.

''How's our Little One doing today?'' Tony asks as his head leans on your shoulder, and you let yourself melt into his touch while dressing Paxton.

''He's good; he's finally eating again, so I'm happy. I'm still bringing the pump in case he won't eat as much later, but I think it won't be necessary.''

He's been sick with a stomach bug for the last week, but now that he's healthy and eating again, he's his happy, chubby self and stealing everyone's hearts.

When you're about to finish dressing him, he lets out a huge yawn, making you giggle at how cute he is. He's the exact copy of his Dad, and you're very thankful to have gotten the gift of your little boy last Christmas.

''Someone's still a little sleepy, aren't you? That's okay, Little One; you can have all the naps you want today to regain some of your energy. Being sick for so long isn't nice, huh,'' you coo at him before picking him up and planting a loud kiss on both his cheeks, making him giggle uncontrollably.

''There's my happy boy again!'' you say before handing Paxton to Tony, who was already dressed in the outfit you laid out for him so you could match with him today.

''I'll be right with you if you can get everything ready and loaded; we'll be ready to go in about 10 to 15 minutes,'' you tell Tony, who nods, and as promised, 15 minutes later, you're fully dressed and in the car and off to the Christmas market.

''Mommy? Are we having a sleepover in the living room again tonight? It will be the first one with Paxton, too, and I want to sleep with all of you on the big mattress!'' he asks excitedly.

''Of course we will, Baby Boy! It's our tradition, after all! But before that, we will watch a Christmas movie, drink hot chocolate, and cuddle with everyone. How do you like that idea?'' you tell him, and both twins cheer happily in the backseat.

Tony grins widely, and his hand has found its home on your thigh, squeezing softly now and again. The drive to the Christmas market goes without a single problem, and you can park relatively close to the entrance, for which you're thankful.

You're about to get Paxton out of his car seat when you notice that he'd fallen asleep during the car ride, and you turn to Tony for help. You're usually carrying him at home when you're doing chores, but outside, you prefer to have Tony do it since you'll be walking a lot.

''He's a little sleepyhead today. Can you carry him in the cloth sling as we walk over the market?'' you ask him. Tony gets the sling ready for a smooth transfer and doesn't wake up once.

''You're still sleepy, huh? Are you comfortable in there, Little One?'' when he hears Paxton's soft snores, he kisses him on the crown of his head. When he's wrapped up and comfortable, it's finally time to stroll over the market and do some last-minute holiday shopping.

Hudson and Orion are holding one of your hands, and Tony has one hand in his pocket; the other is resting on Paxton's back over the cloth. It is a sight you will never get enough of, and you can't resist taking a few photos immediately shared in your family group chat.

''Mommy? Can we get a Santa plushy for Paxton's birthday?'' Orion suddenly asks when she's spotted a big Santa plushy, and she practically pulls you over to the stand.

In front of you is a big, 15'' crocheted Santa, and you can never say no to your daughter, so not even 5 minutes later, you're one crocheted Santa richer and $90 lighter, but it's all worth it to see the smile on your daughters face.

''He'll love it, Mommy, I know it!'' she tells you before running off to Tony so she can show him her present for Paxton.

After a bit more strolling, it's time to get something to snack on and a hot chocolate for everyone to warm up, and you have found the perfect stall. They sell hot chocolate with marshmallows and lots of different Christmas treats.

''Can we have a Cupcake, Daddy?'' Hudson asks, and Tony nods, ordering a red and green cupcake for the twins and a big slice of caramel pie for you and him to share, paired with hot chocolate for everyone.

''You can find a place to sit, and I will bring everything over in a minute,'' he tells you, and Hudson and Orion storm off to find the perfect spot while you're strolling after them, and it doesn't take long for them to find one.

''Who's ready for some hot chocolate and a snack?!'' you hear Tony say, and the twins instantly perk up at their Dad's question. The drinks and snacks are gone in no time, and before you know it, you're in the car back home, and your holiday shopping is officially finished.

When dinner is finished, Tony drags both the big mattress from the guest room and Paxton's travel bed down the stairs, and the living room is transformed into your own sleepover room.

With everyone wearing matching pajamas, you're getting ready to watch Home Alone before bed, and Tony is preparing hot chocolate for you and himself, and all three kids will have some warm milk during the movie.

Tony is sitting on the lounge part of your couch with you between his legs as you cuddled into his hold, and you're giving Paxton his last bottle of the day, and Hudson and Orion are cuddled up together under a big blanket as they're enjoying their warm milk too.

This is your favorite Christmas tradition, and when Tony places a soft kiss on your head before giving you a small, reassuring squeeze, you know it was the right choice to share your life with this man.

When the movie is finished, you transfer Paxton into his travel bed, and Tony and the kids have already found their place underneath the comforter, ready for you to join them.

''Is there room for one more, or do I have to tickle someone to make room?!'' you ask playfully, and you slide in next to Hudson before pulling him against you. Orion is cuddling with her Dad, and not long after, all four of you are asleep.

One thing is sure: Christmas has become much more enjoyable after you met Tony, and you wouldn't change anything for the world. Life has never felt this perfect, and you can't wait to do this with your grandchildren one day.

If she thought the end to the horrors would come the moment she had a baby, she was half wrong.

She could’ve stayed at home with her baby boy and avoided all of this, but she didn’t want to miss a chance to see Jack openly and couldn’t vouch for him from home. It was also Matty’s first year as mentor and she’d be stupid to throw him to the wolves like that.

Times like this she misses Luca. He would’ve never let this happen, in fact Evert would’ve been pushing daisies already. Shelby should really get to that already.

“Some of them, like Lawerence Evert, think we are gods and goddesses and they privileged enough to be nourished from our breast.” Cecelia makes a face as an avox helps her into the ultramodern breast pump.

Eva wonders if dairy cows feel as used as her as she sees her own milk be put in rather fancy jars instead of the usual baby bottles a company gave her to promote them.

She’d been treated like a queen by the Capitol’s companies, showered with everything a baby and new mother could ever want or need because nothing provides better advertising than a Victor doing it.

Laurie’s name had caused controversy, but babies were being named Lauren or Laurentius by the dozen now. Cecelia’s pregnancy had led to a rise in births and now hers would continue until it went out of fashion. The speculation of Laurie’s paternity was not dying down, however.

Any blue-eyed man she’s been in contact with has been mentioned in gossip columns and shows. Jack had laughed at how the last man she was sold to had to come out on television and deny they ever had sex. Only a few had come close to guessing it was Jack, but they were talked out of it because even for the peacocks of the Capitol fucking your brother’s murderer was too fucked up.

“So, you and Jack, huh.” Cecelia had immediately put two and two together much like every mentor here. They were not as discreet as they should, but unlike Rose Evert and Alfie Solomons, they wouldn’t get into trouble over it.

“Yeah. Kinda just happened.” She lies with a sheepish look; better people think it was unplanned and not that they had tried for two years because a post-partum body isn’t sexy to the capitol. If only they couldn’t speak honestly here.

“At least he’s one of us, the moment Alfie fucks up like this he’s done for.”

It is an open secret that Alfie Solomons, mentor for 9, is fucking his stylist. Not just fucking, but in love too given by what Aveline told her in her tirade against it.

“Yeah, I guess.” Pretty ballsy, or pretty stupid, but Rose had enough money to put Alfie out of the market so maybe they’d get away with it. Luca got away with killing any man who breathed near her and with keeping her in the Capitol a while longer for a holiday to an arena that had a beach.

Maybe Rose and Alfie could get away with things she and Jack can’t.

For now, Eva tries to remember the names of the herbs that lower your milk supply.

Jack is having a few beers waiting for whoever’s gonna tell Shelby’s he’s in when a somewhat sober Haymitch tosses him a large pack of condoms wrapped in a bow.

“Did you and your girl think what’s gonna happen when you train the baby’s killer?” the surly man helps himself to the beer Jack had been drinking on his lonesome and plops himself down on a bench.

“I only thought of how she’d be off the market if lost her figure for nine months.” Can’t say that’s not going to happen because they don’t even know if it will work. “Who knows maybe in twelve years the games won’t exist.”

“Well, you know what they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.” The mentor for 12 comments and accepts Jack’s answer with little suspicion. “Who knows maybe Lauren will take after Evie and survive her games.”

“Laurie, after the dead brother, and they’ve got twelve years to figure that out no use in bringing it up now.” Solomons, the only mentor in an even worse situation than him, comes up as if he were invited.

“Here, got some for you too.” Haymitch tosses a condom at the Victor of 9 from his pant pocket. “Nelson, give him half your box, none of us want to find out what happens when district scum knocks up a Capitol broad.”

“Why is he here, Solomons?” Jack doesn’t hate either guy; they just aren’t friends.

 Eva’s the one everyone likes because she’s a great gal and charming and hot, Jack’s the guy they tolerate because of her. He’s been called an asshole by most mentors here because he won’t change his blunt ways. Haymitch is fun sometimes mostly when he’s not being a pessimistic asshat, Alfie’s too busy with his stylist anyways.

Come to think of it, they’ve never talked much. The whole career vs normal district didn’t help either.

“Cause we’re your new friends, fuck face.” The blond drunk smiles at the words.

If it wasn’t for his family’s lives being on the line, he would’ve tossed the fucker off the roof and see how hard that force field tosses him back.

“Welcome to the club, Nelson. With any luck your niece and your son won’t have to survive an arena like we did.” He extends his hand and Jack shakes it.

Jack Nelson has officially become a rebel.

The children this year show promise, Eva has long since known that promise doesn’t mean much in the arena.

“How do manage this every year?” Matty asks after they send the children to sleep. He is barely twenty this year, been told the hell that awaits him here and is troubled by his own ghosts to accept the task.

“A support system, we mentors have to watch out for each other.” She says drinking the herbal tea guaranteed to temporarily dry up her milk supply. She hasn’t told him about her relationship with Jack, but Mathew is a smart guy and probably figured it out now. “Abilene, bless her heart, was too far gone to be of any help, but Clemens knows more than he lets on.”

“2 is the dad isn’t he?” There it was. The resentment at 2 and 1 for believing they are better, the fear that what they are doing is wrong and the whole she killed Jack’s brother thing.

“It’s not illegal to fraternize with fellow mentors, Laurie is my son with Jack and named after the brother I killed.” Eva finds relief in publicly saying that to people she trusts. Mat won’t tell knows better than to do that. “Before you ask, yes he knows, we both picked out the name together.”

“Volcano girl said 9 is screwing his stylist, is that permitted too?” the young man asked, and Eva shrugged.

“Rose Evert can afford to fuck Alfie, as long as she has money Snow doesn’t give a shit. You’ll find everyone here does what they can to cope with this hell, so don’t be too quick to judge.”

A pool had been added to the training center, swimming lessons were optional and to Eva’s dismay her tributes had not chosen to take up the offer.

Sulema because she already knew how to swim, Fabian had a phobia of water because when he was little, he almost drowned in a river. They hailed from the southern villages, their darker complexion and shorter stature setting them apart from the lighter skinned and taller folks up north.

10 covered the span of two countries, the United States and Mexico, well what was left of Mexico. It had been a country known for its beauty and diverse lands. It had a desert, beaches much more beautiful than the ones in 4 and fertile plains where livestock can thrive.

10 had plenty of rivers and lakes, some had dried up during the Dark Days and others made toxic, but they had an advantage over some districts in that. They were not as great at it as 4 where everyone knew how to swim, but they might have a chance to survive a body of water.

“We should do something nice for the kids.” Aveline says resting under the umbrella of the tribute center’s outdoor pool. Contrary to popular belief, they aren’t cooped up in here for the entire time. Most have some degree of freedom, and it provides the Capitol a chance to see more of them.

“Do you think they’ll let us?” the young mother asks knowing its probably a no unless the right people say it. Cashmere might have some sway, Lyme too. Finnick would agree immediately if it meant he could spend more time with his female tribute who was his schoolmate and whom he obviously really liked.

A doomed romance that can only end with Annie Cresta dying horribly in the games. Snow knew what he was doing when he had her reaped after Finnick tried to speak out over the abuse they suffer.

“Likely not, but most of us here do what we want when we can.” Linnie shrugs and gives a disarming smile to the paparazzi taking seemingly candid photographs of them. Wiress and Beette had outdone themselves with the earrings, they were never caught off guard now.

The afternoon before the interviews is spent with 24 children and their minders having a pool party and forgetting they’d all be killing each other the next day. A good memory before they all die, even the one that survives the games.

“Do you think people look at us the same way we look at them?” Jack rests his chin on her head as they watch Finnick and Annie enjoying their last moments together in the water.

“I suppose so, but who here isn’t as doomed as us, my love.” The only difference was that they couldn’t be killed in an arena.

Kaeden pulled her hair over her shoulder, keeping it out of her teething baby’s grasp. Padmé grunted and wiggled unhappily in her baby carrier.

She sighed and tried to ignore the little kicks to her back as she rolled the maij leh (Togruti: meat leaf) Ahsoka had managed to acquire on her last supply run.

The thin, soft chewy fungus was an ideal teething toy, at least until they got their hands on a proper teething toy. Due to the Empire's xenophobia, many species had taken their more odd products off the galactic market, they didn't have the fuel to spend on a trip all the way out to Shili for a chew toy.

She dipped her finger in the sticky paste that came with it and applied a generous portion to the end to hold the little roll together.

Her baby fussed more as she went to the table and set her down. Padmé gave her a huffy glare and snorted at her.

“Oh calm down, I'm done.” Kaeden told her, handing off the teething treat to her daughter.

Padmé eagerly took it and started chewing happily on the faux meat.

Her teething was just about to enter the phase where it would start hurting and the maij leh would do less for her. They needed to get a teething toy soon.

She sat with Padmé and waited for everyone else to get up, she had always been an early riser. Padmé took after her in that way.

She biologically took after Ahsoka, she behaved and had many more Togruta traits than human ones, her digestive system for example was similar to Ahsoka’s, though at the moment it looked like it could digest things outside of a carnivorous diet. They obviously hadn't tried anything too risky yet, they didn't want a sick baby on their hands. The only thing that gave away that she was a hybrid was the fluffy hair covering her back lek, and some of that hair was blue. With the Empire's attitude towards human hybrids, it was probably for the best.

Zevra said from experience that hybrids were widely variable in which traits they took from each parent, usually the more useful ones were selected. The majority of human hybrids would inherit the more alien features, there were exceptions that looked more human, but because the alien features were more useful, the very basic human traits frequently got overridden.

For hybrids between aliens, it was a lot more variable, but tended to follow along the same lines of trying to select the best traits for survival.

Some hybrids would look exactly like one parent just with their other's skin coloring.

Padmé was definitely one that took after her alien parent.

Luckily, that made her easier for medicines and vaccines once she got old enough for them.

Padmé kicked her little feet as she gummed the maij leh. Right on cue, something fell a few seconds later with a crack that rang out through the ship. It sounded like glass.

Kaeden sighed and picked Padmé back up to go check what her daughter had managed to knock over this time, with the broom and dust pan.

Her budding Force powers were definitely strong.

She came upon a broken glass cup that had been left out and subjected to Padmé’s untrained power. She cleaned it without much trouble and dropped the shards into the trash compactor.

Padmé started making her hungry noise, so she sat down to feed her.

Togrutas stayed on breastfeeding for a bit longer than humans, it was uncommon to start weaning at six months, unless there was no one to feed them, but their diet should stay more milk than not until over a year old. Teething chews didn't count as part of weaning. Kaeden was thankful that Togruta instinct told babies to stop biting around the time they developed teeth, it would have been a very painful process otherwise.

She settled in and waited for either Ahsoka to wake up or for Zebra and Rinu to come back.

The couple and their family were supposed to be back this morning with everything necessary for a proper Life Day celebration.

Zevra celebrated the Wookiee holiday the same way it was celebrated on Kashyyyk due to her upbringing under a kind old Wookiee, Gweersuw. They had taken her from a shitty orphanage on her birth planet and taken her in as their own cub.

Zevra had spent more of her life with the old Wookiee than she hadn't, the woman was practically a Wookiee herself. She was raised on Kashyyyk before the war and was well versed in shyriiwook. She'd even planned to take Kanbi back with her before her life took a turn for the worse.

Kaeden didn't know all the details but by the end of it, Kanbi was dead and Zevra had two infants and a freshly traumatized son.

Zevra hadn't seen or heard a thing from Gweersuw since shortly after meeting Rinu.

Sadly, it was looking unlikely that Zevra would ever see Gweersuw again.

The Empire's treatment of the Wookiees and the subjugation of Kashyyyk was a pretty bad sign.

The proximity alert went off, she pulled up the security feed, Rinu and Zevra were back.

A few minutes later, Xan was running through the halls to tell her all about what they were doing. The little boy loved to tell anyone who would listen about his day.

He jumped onto the bench next to her, practically shaking with excitement.

“Aunt Kay! We got a tree! A real tree! We've never had a Life Day tree before! Isn't it the best?!” The young boy exclaimed loudly.

“That does sound awesome.” She agreed.

Raada didn't have many trees, the moon had been mainly grasslands and rocky out-crops. The idea of having a tree in her home was a strange one to Kaeden.

“Yes, and it'll be more awesome if you watch your siblings while we set it up.” Zevra said suddenly grabbing her son by his waist and lightly tossing him over her shoulder.

The boy giggled gleefully, trying to squirm out of his mother's grip. Zevra dropped a box onto the table.

“That's for you and your trouble makers.” She said with a wink.

“Thanks…?” Kaeden said.

The Tholothian headed off to the main room of their new base, which probably wasn't the intended application of that space, it was just the biggest room they had cleaned up and remodeled so far, serving as a play and family room for now.

Kaeden got up with the box and headed back to her room to wake Ahsoka if she wasn't up already.

Seriously, how much sleep does a Togruta need? She shook her head, sighing affectionately.

Luckily for Ahsoka, she was awake when Kaeden got there.

“Well, well, well, look who's finally up.” She said, leaning against the door frame.

“Shut up.” Ahsoka groaned.

Kaeden chuckled, walking in and dropping the package on their bed.

“Early gift from Zevra, she says it's for my trouble makers.” She smirked.

Ahsoka rubbed her face with an annoyed sigh. Kaeden set the package on their bed, sitting down to plant a kiss on Ahsoka's cheek.

“Wanna see what she got us?” she asked, resting her head on Ahsoka's shoulder.

Ahsoka opened the box. Three ice blue sweaters with white snowflake patterns on the front and matching blue sweatpants.

“She got us matching life day sweaters!” Kaeden laughed while Ahsoka cringed.

"Please no, the last time I tried that; Anakin and Obi-Wan ended up fighting the whole night and back to the temple!" She groaned.

"They were really that bad?" Kaeden asked through her chuckling.

"The. Worst." Ahsoka nodded seriously.

"If they were that awful, then we can't do worse." Kaeden winked and nudged Ahsoka.

The Togruta chuckled then stopped for a second, wincing as Padmé chomped onto her hand while aiming for one of her lekku.

"Looks like the little joy is also a little pain." Ahsoka joked.

"Oh if she's anything like you she'll be a bigger pain when she's a teenager." Kaeden teased.

Ahsoka rolled her eyes. Kaeden laughed.

"So, should we help set up?" She asked.

"Yeah, they’ll need all the help they can get." Ahsoka agreed.

Setting up for a proper Life Day celebration was definitely a challenge with and eager to help and more eager to please six year old, a pair of well meaning toddlers and a Force sensitive baby who didn't know what was going on and kept dropping things.

Luckily, Padmé couldn't get anything too high of the ground, she'd only reach about an inch before she'd give up and look for something more entertaining.

It was chaos.

Ahsoka loved every bit of it.

It reminded her of the chaotic parties Anakin threw for the 501st.

She was currently hanging up lights in the main room with the Force because no one else could reach. Padmé was sat in the couch, distracted by Aatoo. The yellow and green Tooka was sitting above her with his tail dangling down in front of her face. Padmé giggled and tried to grab it, the tail retracted just out of reach then came back down. He brushed his tail through the fuzzy hair on her head and ruffled it up.

Padmé reached above her to grab the tail but ended up falling back. In a flash, Aaato was behind her and keeping her from falling. Padmé giggled and hugged him.

Ahsoka felt the joy her daughter had as she sent it out through the Force. She was a little beacon of light.

"Ahsoka, Padmé's cute and all but your in the way." Rinu said with a very noticeable tease in her voice.

Ahsoka blushed as she moved out of the way. Zevra came from one of the makeshift storage rooms, stopping Rinu as she passed.

“Have you seen the Life Day Orb? It's not where I put it.” She said.

Ahsoka glanced around for the orb, missing Rinu’s response. She heard Aatoo’s collar jingle, glancing at her daughter revealed the Tooka was suddenly gone from the scene. Padmé was gleefully babbling, crawling towards the Life Day Tree in the corner of the room.

“Zevra, I think your cat stole it.” Ahsoka said, spotting the yellow feline hidden in the tree.

Aatoo hissed and yowled at her ratting him out.

“You little shit!” Zevra exclaimed, fishing her Tooka out of the tree.

The mischievous feline had the orb clutched in his paws, he hissed at Zevra, tail lashing wildly, when she took the orb from him.

“Cats.” Zevra rolled her eyes.

Their Life Day was spent celebrating, exchanging gifts, eating and telling stories.

Miara had been able to stop by, bringing Artoo with her. The little devil had pestered Bail until he let him visit them for the holiday. She also came with Iolanthe, a Mikkian pilot friend of hers.

Kaeden didn't pay much attention to the story Miara and Iolanthe were currently telling all the kids who could pay attention, basically everyone but Padmé, she was content to sit back and enjoy the relatively peaceful atmosphere.

She kept an eye on Padmé of course, watching her eagerly crawl after Aatoo, who was sitting on Artoo to make the little game more interesting.

She pulled her loose hair up into a half-hearted bun, just to get it off her back. She felt Ahsoka's warm hands on hers.

“Mind if I take care of that?” Ahsoka offered, settling in next to her.

"Not at all." Kaeden smiled to herself and leaned into Ahsoka.

Her wife was braiding her hair back if the rhythm of gentle tugs was anything to go by. She left out the smaller braids by her face that Xan had done earlier.

“I have something for you, it's an old Togruta custom I'd like to share with you.” Ahsoka said almost nervously.

“Why Soka, are you nervous?” She teased, casting a cheeky glance at her wife.

Ahsoka scowled with a noticable tinge in her cheeks. She grumpily made her face forward again.

Her wife mumbled to herself as she wove something into her braids. Kaeden held back a snicker.

Ahsoka tied off her hair with a huff, Kaeden leaned back and kissed her cheek.

“It's cute when you're huffy.” She said.

She blushed and pushed her face away. Kaeden giggled and grabbed her around her waist, pulling her wife closer, resting her head on her shoulder. Ahsoka purred, loudly much to her embarrassment.

“Kaeden!” Ahsoka squealed, her face turning a deep blood orange.

“It's cute that you purr.” Kaeden told her.

“It's embarrassing!” Ahsoka exclaimed.

“And cute.” Kaeden kissed her cheek.

The Togruta shut up for a few minutes, stewing in flustered embarrassment.

Kaeden played with the end of her braid, Ahsoka had intertwined a dark orange ribbon woven from material she'd never seen before into her hair. Glancing back at her moody wife, she saw that Ahsoka had a similar ribbon tied around her left montral.

“What are these?” She asked.

“It's this Togruta custom, apparently you make a ribbon from this hard to gather material, it's kind of like a silk I guess? I don't know it was hard to find for a decent price, but you make a ribbon with it and then you weave it or tie it to the headdress of loved ones. I don't know exactly what the reason is but it also asks the Shili gods for protection, specifically this one called Grut Daaark (Togruti: hunter moon), I think she's pretty important, but these ribbons are supposed to be for affection and protection.” Ahsoka rambled, it was cute to see her so interested in something.

“Thank you, it's very pretty.” She thanked her wife with a kiss on the cheek.

“Would you like me to get yours?” She asked, gesturing to the other ribbon in her wife's lap.

With her permission, she took Ahsoka's headdress off and wove the ribbon around the front of it, leaving a long tail on either side.

“Can you sit in front of me?” She requested.

Ahsoka shot her a confused glance as she moved to sit in front of her. Kaeden set the headdress back in its place, she took the long ribbon tails and wrapped them around Ahsoka's back montral, tying it off right enough to be secure but not restricting.

“There, now we match.” Kaeden said, leaning over Ahsoka's shoulder.

“Thanks Kay.” Ahsoka gave her a quick kiss.

Kaeden glanced down at the other ribbon in Ahsoka's hands.

“Is that one for Padmé?” She asked.

“Yeah, but it's not recommended to give to babies until they're a bit older. They try to rip it off. Or eat it.” She said.

“That's a smart call.” Kaeden hummed.

Right as she said that, Artoo came back over to them with Padmé on his head. Aatoo must have made a break for it.

The astromech tilted forward, dropping the infant into Ahsoka's lap.

Before they could process what was happening, the droid's camera flashed and he snapped a picture of them. He let out the droid equivalent of a chuckle at whatever the picture looked like. Kaeden rubbed her eyes, glaring at the little metal devil.

Padmé clapped her hands gleefully at the droid’s prank.

A few embers suddenly sparked out of her clapping hands.

She stopped with a curious coo, examining her hands.

Kaeden stared in shock as her daughter clapped her little hands again.

A small red flame spurted from her clapped hands.

Padmé giggled and went to clap again, Kaeden quickly grabbed her daughter's hands to stop that from happening again. Her baby looked up at her with a peek baby confused face.

“Um, what was that?” Miara's voice had her noticing everyone staring at them.

“Pyrokinesis?” Ahsoka offered nervously.

“That's a thing?” Kaeden whispered.

“It's not super common, it's one of those things you kind of have to be born with to use, or really, really extensive training.” Ahsoka explained.

“Is she gonna burn the place down?” Rinu asked, looking understandably concerned.

“Nah, this old place is definitely fire proofed.” Zevra told her.

“I don't think she can make much more than sparks right now.” Ahsoka assessed.

“So it should be okay?” Kaeden wondered.

“Yes. I think so.” she nodded.

“That's good enough for me.” Miara shrugged and went back to the game she was playing with Iolanthe and the kids.

"Are you going to be trouble for mommy?" Ahsoka asked, wiggling their daughter's little hands.

Padmé made spit bubbles and nodded.

"Are you going to be adorable while you do it?" Kaeden cooed, tickling under her chin.

Padmé nodded again then, with a suspiciously naughty Ahsoka like smile, tried to clap.

Ahsoka caught her hands, earning the ire of their baby.

Gweersuw glanced up at the hooded stranger who entered her cave. She hadn't expected any company, sad, it was Life Day, Life Day wasn't meant to be spent alone, it was meant to be spent with family.

And in an interesting twist of fate, family was here.

Perhaps a sign from the Force, she wasn't Force sensitive herself, but she understood it well enough. She was no Lohgarra, but she had been around for a while, her time taught her much about the workings of the Force.

Considering a dead man stood before her, it really did work in mysterious ways.

“As relieved as I am that you are alive, I would have preferred to meet at a better time.” She scolded in her native language.

The Jedi nodded, observing her sparse dwelling.

“It appears that you are preparing to flee.” He commented.

The Wookiee crossed her arms and growled, “yes, I am going to find my cub and any others of my kind who have escaped. My home world is in trouble.”

The Jedi gave her another nod.

“Your cub has a rebellious spirit, from what you have told me. I am certain she has found a way to survive and protect her family.” The Jedi said.

Gweersuw frowned, she'd known this Jedi for a long time, since he and his master visited the home world. She knew when he was something on his mind.

“Spit it out, I know when you have a plan.” She growled assertively.

“Perhaps in your search for you cub, you could help me find a safe place to lay low. There are a few things I am set on accomplishing before I even think about getting killed by the Empire." He said.

Gweersuw sighed.

“Fine, you may join me. Just don't attract the hounds.” She said gruffly.

“Thank you for your kindness, Gweersuw.” The Jedi said bowing his head in thanks.

Gwerrsuw's hard, annoyed expression softened as the Jedi's hood slipped off and exposed his injuries.

Burns and scorch marks covered his face. He was missing some of his skull near the crown of his head in the back and looked like he had patched together a breathing mask with whatever he could find and likely somehow got illegal, rudimentary cybernetics to make up for the damage.

He looked nothing like the way he used too physically, a good thing since that would mean he was less recognizable, but Gwerrsuw could see and practically feel his spirit.

It was much like it had been when this Jedi was a mere padawan in the beginnings of his training. Just as committed to justice and equality and just as caring and understanding, yet a thousand times more wounded and broken.

It didn't take a Jedi to see how hurt a being was, all it took was experience and knowledge.

And the wounded Jedi in front of her was broken in so many ways.

Gwerrsuw smiled as the Jedi sat down, remembering when he came to her as a young Padawan for help with cuts and bruises, or a cracked mask.

"You are hurt, young one. Let old Gweersuw heal you."
