on one hand, I know in a cowboy au, the UNIT lads wouldn't be cowboys (because yknow, they're authority figures.. so they're sheriffs and deputies and such)
on the other hand, they got the close-knit vibe you'd more likely find with an outlaw group, plus, lets be honest, it's more fun if they're cowboys
also they would look hot as cowboys, and they deserve that

I like to think that whenever the Brig is being Particularly Difficult the Doctor is just like "Alright, Brigade Leader" and the Brig doesn't entirely know the context for that but he gets the idea and also context clues

not to promote a fic i haven't even finished yet let alone published but anyway i have this whole minor plot point where the commander-in-chief of the first order army corps of engineers steps down in 19 aby and gets hux to replace him (despite hux having just turned 20) and it becomes a HUGE controversy in the first order with alllll sorts of in-universe Discourse. the former chief of engineers who stepped down for hux gets lowkey blacklisted by the other boomers for "betraying" his generation. someone tries to assassinate hux. pure clownery. i have put way too much thought into the timeline of hux's career and it involves him designing the resurgent star destroyers in his mid teens

During the battle of Gettysburg, it was his cavalry division that first arrived at Gettysburg and, recognizing the importance of the army attaining the high ground, conducted a holding action against numerical superior forces. This allowed the Army of the Potomac can secure the high ground south of the town.
