Avery shifts against the wall and pain zaps through her shoulder, blaring a reminder that no, she isn't. "Emh— I'm fine. But why are you here? That's part of the whole 'who' question: are you with that gu—"

The cat on Thea's shoulder flicks her tail. "Meow!"

Memories of a tumbling mess of claws and limbs surface. Avery squints, trying to compare the cat in front of her to the furry blur she remembers. "Right, I didn't get a good look then, but... aren't you the one that saved me from that teleporting guy?"

"Raow!"

Avery turns to Thea. "So the cat was with you?"

"O-oh, no. Not e-exactly." Thea stands there silent; searches her mind. Unable to find an answer there, she darts her eyes over the knickknacks cluttering the desk — Valerie's desk — between them. Binders and loose papers mostly, but there's more. A couple leafy begonias; a blade-thin computer monitor; a digital picture frame showing a compact, middle-aged man. He stands in front of an old exhibit and beams a smile. Valerie's husband.

Run! She's looking for something to kill you with; that picture frame could do it, heavy and perfect clobbering-size as it is.

Since I did Avery’s concept sheet last week, I’ll do Thea’s this week. Her’s may be my favorite. I’m probably biased though since she’s the character that originally inspired this book.

Have you tried Longhorn's Crispy Brussle Sprouts? I first had this in when I went to Florida and it was sooo delicious! I got home in New Jersey and I found out there's a couple here too, so I went and they still taste great. I'm glad they're consistent with the recipe!

So. According to my husband, I cook him lunches so good I broke their office's only vegan.

I made the spouse creature one of his favorites. Salmon with crispy skin, crispy parmeasan brussle sprouts, and some ginger and maple pickled beets... incase you're wondering. And the poor kid was like "wow that looks amazing."

And this week he started bringing fish and chicken in his lunch sometimes.

If you haven’t already I HIGHLY recommend supporting your local vegan restaurant. This was the first thing I ate going to Veg and one of the many reasons I keep going back, aside from the lush bushy green decor that causes a beautiful and distinct separation between you and the ugly outside city. I've eaten vegan before but never like this.

This dish was light and natural in flavor, and had beautiful ingredients; turmeric white corn grits, hard seared Cajun oyster mushroom steak, fried brussle sprouts w/ applewood smoked salt and umami shallot oil, sweet and sour caramelized bacon agridulce, and raw cashew Parmesan.

The drink is called Blue Butterfly Iced Tea 🦋 contains blue butterfly flower, lemongrass, ginger, orange peel, and chrysanthemum 🍋🫖🍊

I can’t wait to eat here again!
