lost and found II Georgia Stanway x Reader
Tumblr media
masterlist I word count: 2044
a/n: based off this request.
“G will love your surprise visit to the England camp.”, Keira Walsh exclaimed happily. Surprised Lucy Bronze lifted an eyebrow:” Wait a second, you really didn’t tell her about it.”
Amused by the reactions of your Barcelona teammates you answered:” Not a word, otherwise it wouldn’t be a surprise anymore, right Lucia?”
“Okay, smartass. Just wanted to know if you dropped some hints.”, the defender replied. You smiled at her in amusement: “No lo hice.”
After you realized she didn’t understand what you were saying to her, you added in a teasingly tone: “I see Ona has been lacking in her Spanish lessons with you.”
“Shut up”, the older woman groaned. Clearing her throat Keira drew back the attention to her:” Girls be quiet the other lionesses are arriving.”
For a moment you three stopped talking and were closing your eyes enjoying the warmth of the Sun which shone down on Marbella.
You were filled with excitement as the arrival of the rest of the English players meant that you were one step closer of seeing your girlfriend which you hadn’t for quite some time due to both of your busy schedules.
“Hi Kei, missed ya.”, Georgia Stanway chirmed while hugging one of her closest friends. Equally delighted Keira greeted the Bayern Munich player:” Hi G.” “How are you?”, the younger midfielder asked.
Beaming the Barcelona footballer told her:” Great, how are you.” Proudly Georgia nodded: “I’m alright, we’re still leading in the Frauen Bundesliga-“, when your girlfriend paused taking in your sight. She gasped out loud: ”Oh my god!”
“Oh, look at G, she’s getting all flustered!”, Chloe Kelly grinned. Giggling Alessia Russo observed: ”She’s turning all red.” “Like a little tomato.”, Ella Toone remarked laughing.
You tried to ignore their remarks and went straight to your girlfriend pulling her into a hug:”Hello, mi amor.” “What are you doing here?”, Georgia wanted to know.
A crooked smile was on your lips:” I wanted to surprise you.” “Well, you just did that.”, the midfielder muttered, while her arms were still embracing you, as she wasn’t ready to let you go yet.
In awe Alex Greenwood hummed:” Just look at Georgia. She obviously missed her little Spanish girlfriend.” “Adorable.”, Lucy playfully rolled her eyes.
The red cheeks on your girlfriend intensified because of her teammates comments so you suggested in a low voice:” Want to go somewhere more private, Georgia?”
“Yes, follow me.”, she sighed relived. Georgia really loved the English player, but she couldn’t let the chance slip away to have a quiet moment between only the two of you.
Winking Keira shouted after you both:” See you later, lovebirds.”
“Ugh, Kei.”, Georgia groaned, her cheeks turning pink. You chuckled and put a hand on your girlfriends back; “Ignore her.” “I always do.”, she smiled back at you. “Good.”
“Let‘s go.”, she continued to lead you away from her teammates. You patiently followed; “Please.” Georgia opened the door to her hotel room and let you walk in first.
You took in the plain but chic room. A large, soft looking bed occupied most of the space. With a long sigh, you let yourself fall onto it and kicked off your shoes. Your girlfriend climbed next to you on the bed, watching you attentively.
“You‘re probably asking yourself why I‘m not back with the spanish team…”, you said into the silence. Georgias eyes widened, giving away that you were right with your assumption. “I am.”, she admitted.
You nodded wearily and explained; “The changes are not enough. The former co-coach is now our head coach… Mapi and the others including me want them to do better.” “Oh.”
“Yeah.”, you replied, a silent understanding between the two of you. Your girlfriend shook her head in confusion; “I really thought things would get better after they dropped Vilda.” “Me too.”, you agreed cooly.
Carefully, Georgia pushed the hair out of your face; “I‘m sorry.” “Not your fault, Gee.” “Still. I know you‘d want to play for your country.” You shrugged casually; “It is what it is.”
Something on your girlfriends upper arm caught your attention, letting you forget the previous topic; “Wait, is this a new tattoo?” “Uhm…” “Let me take a look at it!” You grabbed her wrist and turned her arm towards you. Sighing, the midfielder gave in; “Fine.”
“Wait, is this…? Georgia, you’re insane!”, you exclaimed, staring at your own initial under your girlfriends skin. She winked at you; “Or am I a genius?”
“Guess your lionesses teammates will judge about it later.”, you laughed, still in slight disbelief. “I‘m okay with that.” “Yes, you can handle them.” “I can.”, she assured you with a grin.
Out of words for how grateful you were to have Georgia in your life, you leaned forward and kissed her passionately. She returned the kiss impatiently.
“Jesus! Glad I didn‘t come later! Time for dinner, you two.”, Keiras voice exclaimed. You drove apart immediately, staring at the midfielder who leaned in the doorframe and grimaced.
“Kei!”, Georgia shrieked. You threw a pillow in her general direction; “Get out!” She moved out of the way, the pillow hitting the wall next to her; “Come on, girls.”
After another glare from her teammate, she finally closed the door again. Georgia laughed incrediously; “Why is she like that?”
“She loves to catch us off guard I just know it!”, you fondly rolled your eyes. “I guess we have to go know.”, your girlfriend announced, still out of breath from kissing and laughing while getting up from the bed.
With a loud sigh you got up with her:” Yeah, we do.” “Come on then.”, with a cheeky grin your girlfriend took your hand pulling you into the direction of the place where her teammates were having dinner. Smiling you whispered into her ear:” I’ll follow you.”
Once you sat down with the rest of the lionesses Lucy curiously looked at the Bayern Munich player:”Gee, did you told y/n the story of your football boots, already?” “Football boots?”, you repeated puzzled.
Slightly embarrassed Georgia explained:” I had them in my big suitcase which got lost.” “Your suitcase got lost?!”, you asked her concerned.
Enjoying the sheepishness in the voice of her best friend Keira added:” And she was too scared to tell that Sarina, so..” “So?”, you urged her to continue to speak about it.
Your girlfriend stared annoyed at the Barcelona midfielder:” It’s fine now. I got my stuff back.” “That’s good.”, you told her relieved.
Back to her confident self Georgia said: “I trained with shoes from a U23 player for the first two days.” “You did? Nice of the fellow baller.”, amused you lifted up an eyebrow.
Giggling she admitted: “She was the only one with the same size.” “Lucky girl.”, you hummed, your lips only millimetres away from brushing against eachother.
Clearing her throat Keira interrupted the kiss before it could have happened, begging:” We’re eating now, please don’t kiss again.” “Don’t be a baby, Kei.”, Georgia told the only slightly older woman, sticking her tongue out into her direction.
You couldn’t help but to remind your teammate from Barcelona:” Laura and you are so much worse and don’t even get me started on Lucy and Ona.”  “What do I have to do with that now? I don’t care if you make out here or not?”, the defender protested.
Happily, Georgia responded:” Thanks for understanding this Lucy. Munich and Barcelona are just so far away.” “True.”, you mumbled biting your lips to hold back all the emotions coming to the surface you were feeling because of your long-distance relationship.
Frustrated Keira pointed out:  “So are Barcelona and Rome.”  “No, the distance between the two cities is less.”, your girlfriend countered.  Pouting her friend defended herself: “It’s still shitty for a relationship.” “It’s.”, Georgia admitted.
Helplessly Lucy groaned hiding the face in her hands: “Can you stop fighting about who has the worst long-distance relationship? I’m trying to eat.” “Sorry, Lucia.”, you apologized with a crooked smile. The older woman looked up to you:”I hope you’re.”
“Love, want to share a dessert?”, Georgia chirmed.  Delighted by her question you swiftly replied: “Sure.” “Perfect.”, she beamed at you.
“Disgustingly cute.”, Keira reacted with gagging noises in the background. Immediately Lucy was calling her out:” Keira!” “What? It’s true.”, she protested.
You were ignoring the two as you and your girlfriend were too focused on the dessert in front of you. With closed eyes you confirmed:” It’s delicious.” “Agreed.”, Georgia said cheerfully.
Keira watched you attentively; “Will you watch the game against Austria?“ “Of course. Can’t miss out on it.“, you replied around a mouthful of your dessert. Georgia winked at you; “You shouldn’t.“ “I’ll wear your jersey.“, you promised your girlfriend with a laugh.
She raised her eyebrows; “You’ll?“ You grinned back at her; “Yes. Why not? Can’t go with my Spanish one.“ “No, better not. I don’t think the girls would like to see that.“, Georgia shook her head. With a wink, you gave your girlfriend a sympathetic look; “Brings back sad times. I can’t do that.“
“Please don’t.“ “I won’t.“, you promised, amused. “Thanks. I’m sure we can get you a shirt.“, the midfielder thought out loud. “Thank you.“ Georgia quickly kissed you on the cheek; “You’re welcome.“
Englands friendly against Austria was about to start when a familar voice called your name.
“Stanway looks good on you.“, Leah Williamson smirked as she took the seat next to you. “Lee, hi.“, you greeted her, a big smile on your face. “Hi.“ You pointed down towards the pitch; “Gee’s a captain tonight.“
“Happy that she gets to be captain for a bit too.“, Leah replied, clearly torn between being excited for her friend and her own frustration of missing out on the camp.
Gently, you put a hand on the defenders arm; “She was so excited to play with you again.“ “Me too, trust me. But I’ll be back for the next camp. I can’t wait to wear that jersey again.“, she said, a defiant sparkle in her eyes.
“And then it’s the three best friends and Lucy again.“ Leahs mood seemed to get better at the thought; “Lucy will hate that.“ “Yes, but she secretly loves it.“, you joined her laugh. “I’m sure she does.“
When the match ended with a clear win for England, you impatiently looked at the Arsenal defender; “Want to say hi to the girls?“ “Sure.“, Leah agreed and followed you.
Georgia was flanked by her Austrian Bayern Munich teammates Sarah Zadrazil and Katharina Naschenweng when you entered the pitch.
“Your girlfriend is here too, Georgia?“, Sarah asked. With a proud nod, Georgia replied; “She’s.“ “Hello, Kathi and Sarah.“, you smiled as you approached the trio.
“Hi y/n.“, they said in unison. “Great to see you two again. Did G tell you about her new tattoo yet?“ Georgias cheeks turned pink while Kathi nodded with a grin; “Yes, she did.“
“What is it?“, Lucy joined the group, bumping her shoulder against yours. “Girls, stop it. You weren’t that excited for my other tattoos.“, your girlfriend laughed, a bit of defensiveness in her voice.
Ella Toone grabbed her arm, turning it so the new tattoo was visible. Excitedly she yelled; “Georgia Marie Stanway, the woman that you are!“
“What? Let me see!“, Alessia Russo pushed her best friend aside to have a look as well. Georgias face turned even more red; “It’s just the first letter of her name.“
“That’s so romantic.“, Alessia cooed. Keira rolled her eyes; “No, it’s stupid.“ “Shut up, Kei!“, you and your girlfriend called at the same time.
Leah pulled your Barcelona teammate in a hug; “Come here, Kei.“ “G, Lucy and y/n need to join too.“, she demanded, her cheek against Leahs shoulder.
Sighing, you wrapped your arms around the two of them; “Come here, you big baby.“ Georgia immediately followed suit and joined the group hug. “
Ugh, not a hug.“, Lucy grimaced disgusted. Leah gave her an unimpressed look; “Don’t be a bitch, Lucy.“
“It’s okay, that’s just how she is.“, your girlfriend laughed, grabbing Lucys arm and pulling her into the direction of the growing group of football players.
Reluctantly, she finally gave in. You smiled to yourself. There was no place you would rather be right now.

the offside rule || j.h.s
Tumblr media
Summary: Jake learns that his girl is crazy about football, but not the kind he expected.
Warnings: jake being a sweetheart, no use of y/n
Word Count: 1.5k
Pairings: Jake Seresin x f!reader
Authors Note: This is inspired by @roosterforme's Sundays Are for the Boys and @teacupsandtopgun's Jake and Flick universe. This is also very self-indulgent and somewhat based on parts of my life.
Tumblr media
“What are you doing?” Jake emerged from the bathroom, only to find his girlfriend on the couch, watching what looked like soccer.
“I’m watching football, what does it look like?” She didn’t take her eyes off the screen as she reached for the beer bottle on the coffee table.
Jake didn’t know how to respond. He knew what soccer was, he wasn’t an idiot but he never knew that his girl enjoyed the sport.
“Soccer, baby. It’s called soccer.”
Jake knew it was the wrong thing to say as she turned around, an unimpressed look on her face.
“I’m going to forgive you this time. But in the future, for your information, it’s called football. Not your ridiculous term soccer.” She was all business, a sharp edge to her tone that Jake hadn’t really experienced in their relationship so far.
There was a sparkle in her eyes that told him she wasn’t as serious as her tone suggested though. Jake flopped down on the couch next to her, plucking the beer out of her hands. “Is this MLS?”
She snorted, rolling her eyes as she looked him up and down. “MLS is a shit league. It only got interesting since Messi signed for Inter Miami and it’s still shit. You know, we call it the retirement league because it’s where all the greats come to wind down and just kick around.”
“Hey!” Jake protested. “Doesn’t it have a somewhat good reputation?”
She shook her head. “Baby, I love you but you’ve been greatly deceived.” She patted his cheek, opening another beer, seeing as he had stolen hers.
Jake grumbled, sinking lower into the couch. Granted, his soccer knowledge was limited but he thought that MLS at least was a popular league.
“What’s this then?” He pointed to the screen where the game was playing.
His girl clapped excitedly, tossing the cap onto the table. “This is the greatest league in the world. I give you the Premier League.” She dramatically spread her arms, as if showing him something of great importance.
In a way, Jake guessed that she was. He had no idea she was this passionate about this but he found it endearing that she did.
“I recognise that, it’s England, yeah?” Jake was 80% certain he was right but he could also be wrong. Like he said, his knowledge of soccer was limited.
“Yes! PL is played in England and it’s hands down the most popular and watched league. But there’s obviously others as well.”
He was a bit intrigued and Jake also wanted to know more about something that made his girl this excited. “Others?”
“Oh, you’ve got La Liga for example, and Ligue 1. And then there’s Serie A and Bundesliga. My dad used to watch a lot of Eredivisie too. He was a lifelong fan of Ajax.” She quieted down a bit at the end, a sad smile on her face as she remembered her dad.
Jake pressed a kiss to her shoulder, hand finding hers. He gave a supportive squeeze. He understood now why this was so important to her.
“Did you guys watch a lot together?” He asked as the game seemingly was paused, the players leaving the field.
“Yeah. He took me to my first game when I was 4. I barely remember it but I remember the feeling. And he coached my team for as long as I played.”
That surprised Jake. “You used to play?” It wasn’t something that had come up but he guessed it was somewhat of a sore subject.
“From the age of five til I was fifteen, maybe sixteen,” she paused. “Uh, I quit playing when he got sick. He wanted me to continue but it just wasn’t the same. It was our thing and then all of a sudden he wasn’t there and..”
Jake pulled her into his arms, lips pressed to her forehead. “Baby, why haven’t you told me about this before? I would have loved to know more about football if I knew it meant this much to you.”
She smiled when he called it football and Jake counted it as a small victory. “I honestly don’t know. You’re more of an American football fan and I just figured you didn’t care about this.”
“I would have cared if you told me. Hell, I know you don’t really care about the Cowboys but you still hang out with me when they play. And wear the jersey.”
She laughed then, leaning back from his embrace but kept their hands intertwined. “I wear the jersey because I know it gets you all hot and bothered.”
“Well, that’s definitely a perk. You do look very good in blue.” Jake kissed her then, hands sneaking under her shirt to trace her skin.
She was blushing when they pulled apart and Jake grinned, proud to be the one to make her that way.
“So is Ajax your team?” He asked, playing with the hem of her shirt.
“No. As much as I respect and enjoy Dutch football, the Premier League always called to me more. And then I fell in love with Manchester United.”
Jake’s eyebrows shot up, teasingly pinching her sides. “Fell in love, huh? That means I got competition?”
She rolled her eyes, pressing a chaste kiss to his lips. “Don’t worry, I won’t leave you for the Red Devils.”
“Good. Is this them then?” He gestured towards the screen, where the game had resumed.
“No, they play Aston Villa tomorrow. This is Newcastle vs Arsenal.”
Jake watched as the team in black and white kicked the ball back and forth. “Okay, you’re going to have to explain this to me. I know nothing.”
She launched into the game, explaining what was happening as well as informing him about the rules and terms. Jake tried his best to keep up but figured he was going to have to do some independent studying to catch up.
If this was important to his girl, it was important to him. He watched as she kept on talking, gesturing back and forth with her hands, eyes alight with excitement.
“But there must be leagues outside of Europe, yeah?” He asked after learning that the ones she had rambled off earlier were all based in European countries.
“For sure, but those are the most popular ones. And considering how much of an impact the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League have, it’s difficult for leagues outside of Europe to compete.”
Jake’s mind was reeling, trying to piece all the information together. “Wait, Europa League and Champions League? Conference? Where’s that?”
“All of those are played by teams in Europe. You qualify for UCL when you win your league in your country, and the second tier goes on to play in the UEL and third tier in UECL.” At Jake’s confused expression, she smiled apologetically.
“Sorry, this is way overboard. How about we keep that for another day and we just keep to the basics for now?”
Jake breathed a sigh of relief. “Yes please.”
She handed him another beer, smiling softly.
“So, do I get a Manchester United jersey? It’s only fair, I got you a Cowboys one.” Jake asked.
He was comfortably leaning back against the armrest of the couch. Initially he had tried to get her to snuggle with him but quickly found out that she wasn’t going to sit still while watching the game.
“Babe, you’ll get a jersey when you deserve one. Maybe earlier if you can explain the offside rule to me.”
He was screwed then. “Never mind. I’ll wait.”
“It’s really not that difficult. A player would be seen as offside if their entire body is in front of the last defender of the opposing team, on the opposing team's half.”
Jake tried to imagine what it would look like but his mind came up blank. “You’re just speaking gibberish, that doesn’t make sense.”
She smiled softly, a gleam in her eye. “Don’t worry, I’ll make you a football fan. Just you wait.”
“I can’t wait. I’m also very excited to see you watch your team play.”
The game was now over and she climbed into his lap, hands finding the back of his head. “Oh, you’re in for a wild ride.”
Making the most of their position, Jake grabbed a hold of her thighs as he stood up, ignoring her squeal as he headed towards the bedroom. “How about I give you a ride right now?”
Tumblr media
Two months later, when Jake officially got the offside rule right, a package was waiting for him on the kitchen table when he got home.
His heart swelled as he pulled out a bright red Manchester United jersey, embroidered with his callsign on the back. There was a note inside the box as well and Jake laughed as he read what his girlfriend had written.
Now you’re a real football fan. Glory glory Man United!
Ps. Come find me ;)
“You’re playing a dangerous game, sweetheart.” He called, jersey in hand as he stalked the house.
Her laughter echoed through the house. “Come claim your prize, cowboy.”

one shot with one heart
lena oberdorf x uswnt!reader
summary: what if germany and the united states made it to the semi-finals of the 2023 world cup? how would the two lovers handle it?
disclaimer/warnings: guilt, longer fic, i took real life events from the uswnt vs sweden match, and mallory never got injured before the world cup in this fic.
Tumblr media
to you, the stadium could’ve stretched for miles filled with red, white, and blue colors– also white, red, orange, and black colors.
one of the semi-finals of the 2023 women's world cup came down to germany and the united states. the other game involves australia and spain.
you didn’t care so much about the oceania country and spanish country going head-to-head. at least for now. the world cup has taken over your mind for the last few months.
back in your home in munich, you pushed yourself during your games in the bundesliga. you’ve been with bayern munich since 2021, after a transfer from manchester city. at first, it took some months for you to settle in a new place. you’ve been away from your hometown of washington dc for many years, so readjusting wasn’t new to you.
then, you’ve made friends with your entire team. your closest friends being lea, sydney, and giulia– until georgia and sam tagged along in the later seasons.
lea schuller, your bestest friend, threw a small gathering at her apartment on a winter night in 2022. at first, you didn’t want to go. you had many chores that needed to be finished in your apartment– laundry, dishes, vacuuming– you name it. however, you suffered from a tiny case of FOMO. you decided to go at the last minute.
as you were walking into lea’s apartment, you saw two girls that you knew from wolfsburg. being the only non-german in the room you were surprised. lea introduced you to jule and lena– since you’ve never talked to them before. except for clashes during the rivalry games.
lena and you hit it off right away. everyone noticed how neither of you could leave the other alone. a month after talking- which happened to be a week after your birthday– lena came to visit you from wolfsburg and asked you to be her girlfriend. you said yes– and you guys have been happy since.
the long-distance between wolfsburg and munich hasn’t been as hard as you guys have suspected. you both hoped that you will be closer together someday.
now the game between germany and the united states ended in a 3-3. lea scoring a brace and alex popp with a goal for germany— sophia smith, lynn williams, and you scoring one goal for the united states.
the semi-finals needed a winner. so after no goals for both sides in extra time, the game came down to penalty kicks.
andi sullivan, number 17, takes the first shot in the penalty match. you look ahead, not wanting to blink in case you missed something big.
she scores! you let your arms wrapped behind mallory and sophia go as you clapped in support. you didn’t want to celebrate too much, since this penalty match can go either way.
you turn your head to see your bayern teammate, giulia, stand at the penalty spot. you swallow in nervousness as you hated to wish that she missed.
giulia scores! you hear all of the german girls, just 20 feet to your left– support your club teammate as she runs back to her line with a light smile.
you look down at the grass before seeing your national team captain, lindsey, go up to kick.
in your heart, you knew that lindsey wouldn’t miss. after her swift kick, you clapped in support knowing that you were right.
alexandra popp took a shot and didn’t miss, which caused your breathing to slow a tiny bit. you were nervous. even though you won the world cup at the age of 18 in 2019– you are ambitious and want your second by 22.
as kristie stepped up, you had a faint smile. the mewis sisters were the older sisters you wished you had as the older sibling of your own family. a small amount of hope shined through your fears as you saw the back of kristies head look forward at berger.
kristie scores! you pump your fists into the air as she runs back to the run with you. this time, she high-fives your hands before falling back into line. now, she is beside you on your right– with mallory to your left side.
you were distracted at the thought of kristies penalty kick– so your eyes widened when you saw your bestfriend at bayern– sydney– go and take the penalty shot next. again, you felt guilty about wanting her to miss the goal.
and then she did. sydney’s foot launched the ball far into the crowd which made you relieved. the germans in the crowd sigh as the americans cheered. in your heart, you wanted to comfort her– in your mind, you were relieved that she missed.
mallory’s right arm slowly leaves your waist as she heads towards the penalty spot. she was next.
“you got this swanson!” you yelled, hoping that she heard you over the loud crowd. she is one of your best friends on the national team and you knew a goal would lift her nervous spirit.
she didn’t get it, she missed. your heart dropped to your stomach as mallory walked back into line beside you. the ball she kicked was successfully blocked by berger on the right corner.
klara, one of your bayern teammates you love, goes to take a penalty kick. she missed which caused the german crowd to sigh in disappointment.
all of your fans, friends, and family knew that you weren't enjoying this. in fact, you would’ve preferred a 90 minute game with a clear winner over this climactic scene.
lena’s parents saw you briefly before the semi-final game and wished you luck. they’ve looked and loved you like one of their own. obi’s mother saw the nervous look in your eyes and reminded you that they would still love you even if you beat germany.
you have the same nervous eyes looking ahead at sophia smith going to take the penalty. your stomach turns and your eyes widen at the realization of her kick.
if sophia scores, the uswnt goes to the world cup finals. the entire country is looking at sophia on their tv screens. you can’t imagine how that would feel on the girl who's months older than you.
when the ball goes above the goalpost, you frown as sophia covers her face with her hands. at first, you thought she started crying. you weren’t too far off. sophia tried to cover her sad looks with a poker face that wasn’t working.
after she got back in line– on the opposite side of mallory from you– you reached your arm from behind and patted on sophia’s back. you wished you could’ve done more in that moment.
your heart beats hard as you look ahead at your lover jog to take the kick for germany. you find yourself glued to your spot, a knot of nervousness tightening in your stomach.
you want to cheer for your girlfriend, to hope she scores, but the conflict within you is undeniable. a small part of your mind, the part driven by the fierce desire and competitiveness to see your team advance, wishes for her to miss.
the guilt that accompanies that thought is overwhelming, making it hard to breathe. some of your teammates tilt their heads through the line to try and look at you– seeing a nervous and guilty look plastered on your face.
kristie and mallory, standing beside you on both sides, notice your inner turmoil through your clenched jaw.
kristie glances at you, her eyes filled with understanding. she knew the feeling after facing australia in the olympics against sam. however, she couldn’t imagine a scenario where penalty kicks were involved.
she already had her arm wrapped around your back, so she takes her hand and squeezes your shoulder gently, a silent gesture of support that steadies you momentarily. you’re reminded that your teammates do acknowledge you and the significance of lena being on the opposite team from you.
lena is your rival on the club level, but that is nothing compared to a world cup semi-final.
on the other side of your body, mallory does the same thing kristie did, her hand resting reassuringly on your lower back.
you stare at lena’s body the entire time, refusing to blink. lena takes a deep breath, and you do the same, feeling the tension grow tighter within you.
obi steps forward, striking the ball cleanly. for a fleeting moment, you hope, and you fear— you feel everything all at once.
when the ball passes alyssa’s fingers, going into the back of the net– lena jumps and yells in celebration as she jogs back to her teammates. you look at her the entire time with a straight face, but your eyes showed your small happiness for her.
you love her so much. seeing her happy makes you happy, even with these circumstances.
alyssa removes herself from the goal-post line and goes to the penalty spot. the older woman told you about her love for taking penalties before. the woman in green gave you a sense of confidence.
“come on alyssa!” you yell as your teammates yell in encouragement for her.
as her shot sprints past ann’s fingers, going into the net, you pump your fists into the air knowing that you trusted your goalkeeper to score.
now the penalties are 4-3. this terrified you.
on the lineup, you were the penalty kicker that went after alyssa. as an attacking midfielder, you were good at penalty kicks. if the next kicker, which looks to be svenja huth walking to the penalty spot, misses— the fate of the uswnt going to the world cup final depends on you.
you silently curse at the scriptwriters who could make this shit up. y/n, the american girl who plays in a german club and has a bunch of friends on the german national team along with the love of her life, might have to crush their dreams of being in a world cup final.
svenja’s shot was blocked by alyssa. the ball slammed right into alyssa’s gloved fingers. your heart sunk to your stomach and suddenly, your legs felt like lead that could snap in one wrong move.
the weight of the semi-final settles on your shoulders. it's your turn, and the realization hits you— if you score, the uswnt will advance to the world cup finals, possibly leading to their fifth win ever.
your entire team on the pitch yells words of encouragement at you.
“you got this, y/l/n!!!” you hear julie ertz’s voice.
“we love you!” naomi gave you reassurance.
all of your german teammates felt fear in their bodies as they saw you walk up to position the ball on the penalty spot. out of anyone that could take the deciding shot, they were shocked that it was you. you can handle pressure, but not as much as others can.
lena swallowed on nothing as she stared at you, the same way you stared at her taking the shot. instead, she knows that you will win the game if you make the goal.
she knows what's at stake, both for her team and for yours. the wolfsburg midfielder is questioning how you’re handling the pressure. the tension in the stadium is suffocating, and she can feel every heartbeat echoing in her chest.
her teammates notice her tension, offering silent pats on the back the same way the uswnt did for you with her kick, but lena barely registers them.
she bites her lip, her hands clenched tightly together, her gaze fixed solely on you as if you were the only one in the stadium.
the stadium is a cauldron of noise. the german supporters are trying to distract y/n while the american supports hold their breaths due to the intensity of the situation.
you managed to block it all out, focusing on ann-katrin berger, germany's goalkeeper. her eyes lock onto yours as she gives you an intimidating look, a silent challenge passing between you.
"this could be it, folks. it all comes down to y/n l/n. one goal to send the united states to the world cup finals for the fifth time." a male commentator speaks to the tv audience, where millions of people have their eyes watching your every move.
"y/n has been phenomenal this tournament. her goal from outside the box earlier could be nominated for goal of the tournament, but can she handle this pressure? this is the moment where the legends are made." the female commentator speaks up alongside the man.
“she was just 18 years old when she assisted rose lavelle’s goal in the last world cup final against the netherlands, she has the quality that can send the united states to another win.” the male commentator defends you.
"that's true– but we know that ann-katrin berger has been solid for germany. will she rise to the occasion or will y/n find a way through?" the woman responds.
the world seems to slow down as you take your steps back, your mind focused solely on the goal ahead. the stadium seems to stop as you begin your run-up, each step is measured, and your heart pounds in your chest.
“y/l/nnn!” the commentator drags your last name as your foot strikes the ball cleanly, watching as it sails toward the goal.
ann dives, her fingers brushing the ball as it was stopped over the goal-line. from your eyes, it looks like the ball went over the line. however, you know you’re biased.
your heart stops for a quick second—did she save it? the ball did hit the ground just behind the line, and the stadium erupts in a series of shock.
your shaky hands cover your dropped jaw as you stare at the ball that lays behind the net.
ann and you run to the assistant ref who stands closeby, ready to protest your sides.
"was it in? did it cross the line?" you begged through for shaky hands. your lungs force itself to take deep breaths as you felt tortured,
"the referee is checking var now, wait!"
you stand frozen as your eyes couldn’t even blink, your heart in your throat.
the referee waits for confirmation as her fingers hold onto her ear-piece, the seconds stretching into what feels like an eternity.
the first thing you do is turn to look at your coach, who nods his head in support. he knew you made it, but the refs made the final call.
suddenly, you look back to see the ref staring at you. at the same second she blows the whistle and points to the center circle—- FINAL GOAL!
all of the nervousness in your body was replaced with an overwhelming rush of relief. your teammates on the pitch and benches sprint towards you in excitement after hearing the whistle.
some of them tackle you to the ground and they all start a pile in excitement. their cheers echoing in your ears as they embrace you. all you could do was giggle and tear up in excitement, the nerves overwhelming your tired body.
on the other side of the pitch, the germans stand in shock–. their faces are a mix of shock and sorrow, the dream of reaching the world cup final snatched away in that single moment by their bestfriend and girlfriend for lena.
your closest national teammates, trinity, tierna, and mallory, are the first to reach you after, their faces alight with joy. this is ten minutes after the VAR call, so you calmed down from the excitement that took over your body.
they embrace you tightly in a group hug, shouting praises, songs and congratulations.
as they pull back from your warm body, they notice the fake smile on your face. through your eyes they can see the guilt and sadness etched on your face. also, they reflected the inner turmoil you’re struggling to hide throughout this happy moment.
"y/n, we're going to the fuckinggggg final thanks to you!" trinity exclaims, hoping that she misunderstood the look on your face. her smile fades slightly as she sees your smile come and go in the same moment.
tierna places a comforting arm around your shoulder. "are you okay? you don't look happy for someone who just sent us to the world cup finals."
mallory, always perceptive, follows your gaze to the german benches, where lena sits in denial– beside laura freigang who has tears in her eyes.
“you're sad about lena?"
you nod, your heart felt heavy. your national teammates knew how in love you were with lena. they’ve heard about her throughout your international breaks. there is never a day where you aren’t on facetime with lena when you’re back in the states for camp. they’ve met lena once and love how much you both care for each other.
"i– i just know how much this meant to her— i feel like i just snatched something important from her." you say as your eyes wander around the german benches. you see many of your bayern teammates sad, you hope they didn’t hate you.

“i’m scared too– you guys might be my teammates here but most of the girls over there are my club teammates in germany. I don't know what to do.” you confess.
the washington spirit forward pulls you into a side hug. "awhh sweetie it's okay to feel that way. your feelings are valid but thi is just the nature of the game. they all know that– lena understands that, even if it's hard for them right now."
you bite your nails out of bad habit as you stare at tierna’s cleats unintentionally, “i might give obi space for a few days– i don’t want to poke into the wound.” you mumble.
"no no no! you need to go to her. lena needs you right now more than ever even if you think that she doesn’t. she loves you."
mallory nods her head in agreement after taking a sip from her water bottle.
"obviously it's going to be tough for her to move on from this loss, but she knows you're not her enemy. she knows that you might feel guilty as much as she feels hurt. she needs her love right now, not her american opponent."
after a few more minutes of girl talk, your heart pounds as your feet carries you to the german benches, fear taking over your insides.
what if she resents you for this? what if the loss drives a wedge between you?
you gripped onto your black windbreaker jacket as you step closer to the benches. before you could reach lena, you feel a tap on your shoulder.
“good goal, y/n.” alexandra says. you pull her into a hug as you breathe deeply. she wasn’t your teammate at bayern, but she knows you due to lena. she is the captain so she knows how much importance you have in lena’s life– just as much as lena has in yours.
“thank you– i’m so sorry.” you mumble as you pull away from your body.
“don’t apologize. you deserve the win.” alex gives you a faint smile and pats your back.
“yeah but–” you cut yourself off as you turn your head to look at lena, who had her head in her hands.
“obi needs you– go talk to her.” alex says before stepping away from you.
you play with the zipper on your windbreaker as you approach your girlfriend. she sits on the bench and can’t see you with her hands on her eyes, so you kneel down to be eye-level with her.
“obi baby..." you place your hands on her shoulders, rubbing them back and forth as you pull her attention.
in a quick motion, she reaches out and pulls you into a tight embrace, her body shaking with disappointment. she wasn’t crying with tears, but you know she would’ve if she wasn’t in public. lena didn’t want another euros 2022 aftermath to happen to her.
"lena, you don’t understand how much i hated doing that to you, i’m sorry" you whisper, your own tears starting to fall.
"i know. I know. it just... it hurts so much right now." lena clings to you, her grip firm yet trembling. she hasn’t felt this way since the EURO 2022 finals. you give mini kisses on the side of her head, hoping to comfort her in some way after taking away her chance to go into the world cup finals.
“i'm here for you baby, always. i’ll stay with your for a few weeks once we are back in germany before the pre-season– i am so sorry." you mumbled the last part a few times.
as the minutes pass, neither of you broke away from the hug. the noise of the stadium fades into the background.
all of the german and american players give you both space, understanding the delicate situation between you both.
trinity, tierna, mallory, savannah, sophia  watch from a distance, their support unwavering. they didn’t know lena much, but everyone knows that lena would never hate you over this.
“you played so good y/n. i am so happy for you, please don’t believe otherwise. it's just... hard to accept the loss right now."
you nod, understanding her pain. you place your hands on the side of her face as you gave her a hopeful smile.
“i love you obi baby, i’m sorry.”
“stop apologizing— and i love you more liebe.”

11 with jude please 💖
so ik there were a lot of reqs for #11, but this was the first one I received so this will be my #11;)
2nd person pov
“Why do you have chicken in your purse?” You asked your best friend, Natalia as you both looked on at the pitch.
“Not paying for that over prices stadium shit.” Natalia explained, as she happily ate her chicken nuggets in peace while people began to fill in the seats after half time.
You two were both huge Bayern fans. So when they posted on their social media, a giveaway for two tickets up close to the pitch, it didn’t take much for you two to submit about a thousand entries. And somehow, you guys won.
The score was 0-0, against Bayern’s biggest rivals, Dortmund. In honesty, Dortmund usually tended to get thrashed by Bayern, but they were the biggest competition in the Bundesliga.
“Look! Bellingham!” People called from behind you.
You angled your head and saw as Jude Bellingham was leading the charge back from the break onto the pitch. The nineteen year old captain had even the Bayern fans in awe of him.
“I hate him but he’s hella fit.” Natalia admitted, to which you only nodded in response.
He was good yes. Okay fine. He was really good. But you considered him overrated.
“There are way more options for captains though. I don’t know why the nineteen year old is the captain.” You grumbled, honestly a bit angry because of how close Jude had gotten to assisting.
“Says the one who’s no older than nineteen. Also bro, you know he deserves to be captain. Have you seen the way he is on the field. Captain material. And I say this as a lifelong Villa and Bayern fan.” Natalia responded.
You looked to her to see a brow raised in your direction.
“You’re more competitive than half the players I swear.” Natalia laughed.
“Chicken?” She offered, holding her hand out.
You chuckled before waving her hand away.
“Second half’s about to start.” You mumbled.
“WOOOOO MIA SAN MIA!” Natalia cheered, eliciting more cheers from fellow Bayern fans.
“What does Mia San Mia even mean?” You asked her, as Dortmund made their way up the pitch.
Natalia scoffed and turned to you, “You do not deserve to be wearing that Alphonso Davies kit right now.”
“In my defense, I’m not German!” You exclaimed.
“Y/N! I am literally from fucking Ecuador, I don’t know German either but at least I know Mia San Mia! Fake fa-”
She started to say before being cut off by you. Dortmund’s offense was getting suspiciously close to the Bayern net. You were tempted to grimace as Neur was out with a knee injury, not that his replacement was bad by any means.
The stadium almost fell silent as the ball made it to Bellingham’s feet. He was successful in weaving in and out of players, before the ball was deflected. And it was coming straight at you.
Your worst nightmare. You’d love football since you were a little girl. You’d watch it all the time, with or without your family. The one thing that kept you away from live matches as a kid was potentially being hit by a ball. The thought embarrassed you to no end. And now, it was about to happen, in front of tens of thousands of people.
This was what you deserved for sitting in the front row.
“DUCK!” Natalia screamed into your ear, physically pushing you down.
Luckily the ball didn’t hit you, and went flying to the row behind you. Hitting a poor unsuspecting boy.
“Oh shit.” Natalia looked at the wailing kid sympathetically.
You also felt your heart pang in sadness for the clearly hurt boy. But you also thought it was kind of funny. He’d been kicking the back of your seat for the whole first half. And you wanted to smirk and mention karma, but you were better than that.
You grabbed the makeshift ice pack in your bag, which was really just a bag of a lot of ice you’d bought at the stadium and handed it to the boy’s mother.
“I don’t have much but this might help.” You said, placing the bag in the mother’s hands who smiled at you gratefully.
The boy also thanked you, silently calling a truce.
You and Natalia told the boy jokes to help distract him from the pain but eventually it was drowned out by cheering on your side.
“Turn around!” The injured boy gestured.
You did so and saw Jude Bellingham jogging over to your area. Hence why you could barely hear anything. You turned back to see the gleaming boy, figuring it would probably be easier if he was closer to Jude.
So, you picked the boy up and transferred him to your seat, closer to the pitch, while you climbed over to sit a row behind.
Unbeknownst to you, the kind act did not go unnoticed by Jude, who’d seen it while approaching.
“I’m sorry about that bud.” The footballer smiled apologetically, ruffling the kid’s hair.
The boy just smiled, “It’s okay. You weren’t the last one to hit it anyways.”
“You doing better now eh?” Jude smiled.
“Yeah! She helped me by giving me ice and telling me jokes.” The boy answered, gesturing to you while he spoke.
This caused Jude’s eyes to flicker towards your for a second. A smirk found its way onto his face while you started blushing red.
“Ah well your sister seems very nice.” Jude emphasised the “sister”.
The boy quirked his brow.
“She’s not my sister. She just helped me after the ball hit me.” The child explained. “Ah, should’ve figured based off of the opposing kits.” Jude replied, noticing now that you sported a Bayern kit while the child was decked out in BVB gear.
You turned to Natalia who just sat there smugly, watching it all happen.
“Don’t talk much now do you?” Jude asked you, the smirk ever so present on his face.
You wanted to stop from blushing again. But you couldn’t. Instead you had to switch the topic.
“Don’t you have a game to play smart one?” You shot back, snark in your voice as you forced him to turn back to the field where the players were still waiting.
“If I were you, I’d go back to playing now. The quicker you lose, the quicker you get this over with.” You advised.
That flared some sort of pride and fighting spirit in Jude. He smiled to himself turning to go back to the pitch.
But just before that he looked at you and said, “I’ll show you why I’m the golden boy for a reason.” before stocking off.
Within a few seconds, the game resumed.
“I swear the golden boy was Gavi.” Natalia wondered aloud.
And you couldn’t help but laugh.
Approximately 48 minutes later, the match was at a standstill 2-2. Jude had already smirked in your direction after scoring. You however didn’t return anything because what if he had a girlfriend or something that was directed towards?
“Fuck fuck fuck.” Natalia breathed as Adeyemi made his way up the field.
That boy was faster than lightning.
Adeyemi handed it off to Jude who then passed it to Gio, outside of the box. The American faked Alphonso fucking Davies and shot the ball at such an angle that no one expected a goal out of it. But it was. It was a goal indeed. You bit your lip as Dortmund players and fans alike celebrated, going insane.
You could only think to keep your head down to shield yourself from the embarrassment.
15 minutes later
Most fans had left but you and Natalia hung around to take pictures considering how close you were to the field. Your back was currently facing the pitch as Natalia stood on top a seat to get your optimal angles.
“You look so good!” Natalia smiled, clicking away.
But she stopped abruptly.
You noticed.
“Oh are we done? Should we go now?” You asked her.
“Turn.” She commanded.
You whipped you head around to see Jude Bellingham shirtless. Kit in his hand, elbows leaning against the miniature wall.
“You.” You gulped, waiting to get trashed after seeing the look on his face.
“Unfortunate that you guys lost today.” He smiled.
“Yeah well match fixing’s always a possibility. Sure you know a lot about the match fixing.”
You referenced the interview which got Jude fined in the previous year.
Jude’s smile stayed, turning into an ever present smirk.
“Touché I suppose.” Before handing you his kit.
You grasped it, before looking in disgust.
“I don’t do Dortmund kits.” You tried handing it back to him.
You were actually freaking out on the inside.
“This is a Jude Bellingham kit though.” He bit his lip as he maintained eye contact with you.
“Even worse.”
He just laughed.
“Listen sweetheart. I’d take a good look at that kit before you feed it to the dogs.”
And with that, he winked, jogging into the tunnel.
“You better fucking open that kit.” Natalia commanded, holding it up.
Both your eyes shot to something scribbled in the corner.
Call me;) 49*** *** **** -Jude
Your mouth hung wide open at this point. He was into you.
“W fucking rizz Bellingham. W rizz.” Natalia muttered.
“You’re going to be a WAG Y/N.” Natalia’s hands clamped over her mouth.
You rolled your eyes at your best friend’s wild imagination. But secretly, 99% of you, hoped that what she was saying, was true

Episode 307 - Interview with HeyJulien, Football RPF and Carraville writer
Tumblr media
🎧 Episode available on any podcast app, Spotify, or stream here!
Like a bicycle kick goal at minute 95, Sara finally completes editing on a much overdue interview with fellow Carraville author @heyyjulien !
Sara and Julien talk about the world of football RPF (as in soccer, for all you Yankees); specifically the delightfully odd-couple rivals-to-lovers ship of English football pundits Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher. Other talking points scattered across the pitch include: football as war, derby days and football rivalry; the joys of local non-league football, the Bundesliga and fußballkultur; to switch POV, or not to switch POV; the annoying beauty of David Beckham; and of course, we discuss the tragically under-utilized in fic friendship of Paul Scholes and Gary Neville (or, Scholesy as the Kermit to Gary Neville’s Miss Piggy).
Join us, if you like!
Correction - at 03:27:40 we incorrectly refer to our wonderful fellow Carraville author as ‘player1604’-- their handle is @player1064, which is a reference to Gary Neville’s England legacy number. Gary was the 1,064th player to play for England’s National Team. More notes, references, and time caps below the cut.

Photographer
Caro Simon x reader
Tumblr media
“EYYY.” Caro Simon screams as she gets up from the grass, shouting at the Leverkusen player.
She had the ball and was running towards the goal, the other player was storming towards her and grabbed her by her jersey, forcing her to fall down.
The referee blew the whistle, but not because of the clear foul, but rather because Caro hold onto the Leverkusen player and they fell down with her.
“WHAT?” Caro adds as the referee gives Leverkusen a free kick.
While almost the whole stadium is as upset about the referee's decision as the Bayern Players are, I smile.
Not because I think it was a good decision, because it really wasn't, but because Caro is now exactly lookin in my direction.
Giving me a perfect chance to take some photos of her.
Since last season, I work as a photographer for the Frauen-Bundesliga. I can be right on the edge of the pitch, always there when they play and take photos of them.
Right now I’m staying at the edge of the field almost at the half way line, trying to get some good shots.
After one of the Leverkusen players, kicked the ball, the Bayern team quickly got it back.
I look up as I see the Bayern Players running towards the goal but before they reach the box, some Leverkusen player kicks the ball away.
Caro gets it and try's to shoot it to Maxi Rall who's standing just a couple of meters away from me, but she misses her.
And before I even realize it, the ball is hitting me in the face, and I fall back.
A pain goes through my head and I feel something warm running down my face.
I press my hand against my nose, turning on my back.
“Oh fuck.” I hear someone saying, before I feel a hand on mine.
“I’m so sorry.” the same person says before another voice cuts them off.
“Turn her, on her side, it will help with the bleeding.”
I feel the first person, taking there hand from mine and then softly grabbing me by my shoulder and waist, carefully turning me on my side.
“What happened?” a man asks and I open my eyes a little.
Some players are standing around me, from both sides, Leverkusen and Bayern.
Kneeling on the ground next to me, there is a man with the logo of the Bayern Team on his shirt. And as I look up, I directly look into a pair of blue eyes.
“The ball hit her.” the blue-eyed person says, her voice full of fear.
“Wow.” I say, completely ignoring the pain in my face.
The blue-eyed beauty gives me a irritated look before taking a tissue from the man a softly pressing it against my nose.
“My name is John, I’m a doctor, can you hear me?” the man next to me asks and I look at him.
“Yes.”
“Thank good.” The blue-eyed beauty says and then I realize who she is.
Caro Simon.
“Okay, great. Do you think you can get up so we can bring you inside to take care of your nose?” he asks and I nod.
He and Caro help me up, before another woman takes her place and they lead me inside the building next to the pitch.
“We’re gonna take you into one of our first-aid rooms.” John explains and I just let them do there thing, the room is full of medical stuff and has a big window from where you can see the pitch.
They lay me down and for a second I look over to the game.
“Okay, what's your name?” John asks and I look back at him.
“Y/N Y/L/N, I’m a photographer for Die Liega.” I say and he nods.
“Does your head hurt or do you feel dizzy?”
“Nope, if we ignore the blood spilling out of my nose, I’m fine.” I answer and he smiles.
“Okay, keep pressing this against your nose and I’m gonna put a ice pack on your neck, it should stopp bleeding soon.” he says and I nod.
From the coroner of my eyes I notice that the game is finished and that the Bayern Players are celebrating.
“They won, 2:1.” John informs me and I nod.
After a couple of minutes the bleeding becomes less and John gives me a bottle of Protein shake.
“There is some Magnesium and Iron in it, that you lost with the bleeding.” he explains and tells me to drink it and keep laying down for some time.
He tells me that he needs to go and check on his team but he will come back in a couple of minutes and that if I need anything, some other people of the med team are standing outside.
After some minute I hear a slight knock on the door and then someone comes in.
Its Caro.
“Hey.” I say and she closes the door behind her.
“I...I am Caro Simon, I’m the one that hit you with the ball, earlier.” she says and looks at the floor before looking back at me.
“I just wanted to apologize. I didn't mean to hurt you and I’m really sorry.”
“Its okay, I know it wasn't your fault.” I say and smile at her.
“How are you feeling?” she asks and steps a little closer.
“Good, the bleeding almost stoped and I don't feel any pain.”
“That very good, I know what it feels like to get a ball in the face and no pain is a really god sign.”
“Yes and really Ms. Simon its not your fault.” I say and she scrunches her nose.
“Please just call me Caro, I feel really old when people call my by my last name.” she says and I nod.
“I’m Y/N, by the way.”
“It’s nice to meet you Y/N.”
“Its really nice to meet you too, Caro.”
She opens her mouth to say something when someone opens the door.
“Hurry up, Simon. Georgia can’t distract John anymore.”
My eyes widen as I realize its Lina Magull.
“Yeah.” Caro answers and Lina closes the door again.
I give Caro a questioning look and she sighs.
“I kinda promised John do leave you alone after I apologized but I acutely wanted do ask you something.” she says and looks down at her shoes.
“Then ask if you want.”
“Can I...um...can I take you out for dinner, as an excuse for hitting you.” she says, stumbling over her own words.
Its kinda cute actually.
“Yes.”
Caro smiles at me and pulls out her phone.
“Can I have your number.” she asks and I nod.
I enter in my number and as I’m about to give her the phone back, the door opens.
“Now Caro. John is coming back.” Lina says and this time she actually comes in, grabbing Caro by her arm.
“Sorry, but she really needs to come with me or else John is going to kill her before you two can have your date.” Lina says and smiles at me.,
“I’m glad you’re okay.” he says and I stand up.
“Can I go?” I ask and he nods.
“Of curse, but if you feel any dizziness, nausea or headaches please go see a doctor.” he adds before wishing me a good day.
Most of the fans have already left as I go back outside again to grab the stuff I left on the sideline, well its actually just my camera.
My phone vibrates and I pull it out of my pocket.
Its a message from an unknown number, a video.
I open it and realize its filmed inside the locker room of the fc bayern woman's team.
“Hey, Y/N.” Caro says and she's the one holding the phone.
“Hi Y/N.” some of the players add.
I see Sarah Zadrazil, Lina Magull, Mala Gross, Karó Vilhjálmsdóttir and even some of the injured players like Giulia Gwinn and Linda Dallmann.
“We are so sorry that you missed the last minutes of our game.” Sydney Lohmann starts, one arm over Klara Bühl.
“And we are really sad about it because you take the best pictures of us.” Glódís Viggósdóttir adds.
“But I think the ones from the first 86 minutes are really good too.” Tuva Hansen  says.
“We hope that you’re feeling better soon.” Lea Schüller.
“And that we will see you on the pitch again soon.” Georgia Stanway adds.
“Have a good day, Y/N.” Caro adds and the smile on her face  only gets bigger.
“See you at the next match.” the whole team says before raising up there water bottle like they wanna say cheers to me.
Before the camera goes off and I just keep smiling at my phone.
Another massage papers under the video.
“Everyone was really sad for you <3″
And under that another massage.
“Hope you have a good night, C.”
My smile grows bigger and I press my phone against my chest before typing an answer.
“That's really cute.”
----
Its been five days since this happened and for tonight Caro invited me our for dinner.
We went to a small restaurant in Munich she told me that is absolutely great and it was just wonderful, the food was absolutely delicious and Caro was charming, funny and maybe a little fit flirty but maybe I just imagined that.
We decided to take a walk after because its a warm summer night and none of us feels like going home right now.
“So, being a professional player has always been your dream, huh?” I ask and she nods.
“Yeah, I just love having a ball at my feet and...I don't know how to explain that but its just such a great feeling to be out there on the field.” she says and I cant help but get lost in the sparkle that filled her eyes as she started talking about it.
“ I get what you mean, its the same for me with photography, being able to be so close to the players and the game is really cool.” I explain and she smiles.
“Have you ever been on the filed?”
“No, photographers aren't allowed to go on them, you know. We could damage there expensive lawn.” I say and she laughs before grabbing my hand.
I feel my heart stopping for a second and then beating like crazy, as she pulls me into a side street.
“Where are we going?”
“To my car, I wanna show you something.” she says and stops. “But only if you want.”
“Of curse.”
We drive to the north of the city and after some time I realize that we’re really close to the FC Bayern Campus.
“You wanna go do a late night work out?” I joke but she shakes her head.
“Nope, I want to show you something.” she says and stops at the parking lot of the campus.
We get out of the car and again she grabs my hand, leading me to the building that is next to the field where they normally play.
She pulls a key out of her pocket and lets us inside, but we just go trough and out at the entrance of the field.
I’ve only ever seen the field during the games or at the Media Days but now its kind of magic.
The big lights are off and there are only some small ones, surrounding the field.
“Wow.”
I see Caro smiling and she softly pulls me to the edge of the field.
“Are you ready to do something new?” she asks and I nod, laughing.
We step onto the field and walk around stop at the center spot.
“Maybe its crazy, but I always feel like there is this sort of energy coming from the field.” she says and I nod, not because it's crazy but because it's true.
It’s hard to explain, but it's like you can feel the strength and energy that everyone that ever played on this field had felt, their happiness, anger, joy, everything.
“Close your eyes.” Caro softly demands and I do it.
I feel her coming closer and again my heart starts betting like wild and as she wraps her arms around me from behind, I’m pretty sure to die now.
“Imagine, the seats are full of fans, screaming and shouting of joy, because you just won a game and your teammates are running up to you, hugging you and screaming. And the stadium is starting to sing.” she says and softly starts humming the melody of a song I know but I cant tell what it is right now.
“FC Bayern forever number one, You can call us the champions of the world, FC Bayern forever number one.” she softly sings and I laugh.
And it's almost like I can see it and hear it.
“Thats really cool.” I say and turn around, her arms still wrapped around me and only then I realize how close we are.
I notice her eyes flickering down to my lips for a couple of seconds before she looks back up at me.
“I have to tell you something.” she says in the space between us.
“I’m kinda glad that the thing with the ball happened last weekend, I mean it’s terrible and I didn't want you to get hurt but I....I noticed you already like weeks ago.” she says and her cheeks turn a little red.
“Normally the photographers we have change but you where the same for a lot of games and then you where here at the media day and I always wanted to ask you out but it would have been really wired so...”
“That way it was good that this ball hit me.” I finish her sentence and she nods.
“And your nose is still very beautiful.” she says making me blush.
Again she looks at my lips and I close my eyes before slowly leaving closer.
I feel her breath on my lips before we meet in a soft kiss, she moves her hand from my back to my cheek and pulls me closer, rubbing her thump over my skin and making my knees weak.
“I would really like to do that again after...a second date maybe?” Caro says as we break apart.
“I would love that.” I say and she smiles before kissing me again, but only for a second.
“Sorry, but your lips just look really kissable.” she flirts and I laugh.
“Don't be sorry for that, I like kissing you.”

Looking back at the 2024 European Football Championship, it is time to reveal my perhaps most controversial game design opinion: They need to make the goals bigger, or the field shorter. Bigger goals would be a problem with penalty kicks, but they could find a solution for that.
It's just good game design. Many games end 1:0 or 2:1, or in case of a league game, 0:0 or 1:1. At the national level, you get more interesting games more often, because there is just a lot more variation in skill, so you sometimes get a 4:2 or a really impressive and unlikely goal. Or maybe tournaments are just smaller and with fewer games, so you don't see that many interesting goals. Honestly, most of the Bundesliga is boring, you just see the interesting ones when you call in to vote for the "goal of the week" every Saturday.
Still, I think more goals would be good game design. No more games that end in 1:0, with the winning team carefully trying to save their advantage until the 90th minute.
There is no real way to get a favourable position and defend it for more than five minutes in sports like football or tennis or even basketball. Everything basically "resets" every so often, and the only resources you have are the stamina of your players and yellow cards. That doesn't mean football is a bad game, or a boring game, but it is very unlike chess in the same way that tennis, basketball, and ice hockey are unlike chess. At the same time football is unlike tennis, basketball, and ice hockey, because a game if football can have only one goal at minute 25 and end with a score of 1:0.
I think that's boring, and it's bad game design. Very often, I watch a football game and I think "this team played better than the other team most of the time, but they still lost."
It's not just me. I hear this from colleagues and acquaintances and TV sports commentators and "man on the street"/"vox pop" clips in the news after the game: They played really well, except for that one time when the other team scored that goal. The metrics on the screen during the game agree with that assessment: More ball possession, more attempts at goal, more shots that would have hit the goal – if it weren't for the opposite team's goalkeeper – but no goals.
It may sound like I am denigrating the strategy that goes into high-level football. I don't. I understand that football is more than just running really fast and kicking the ball really hard. When teams decide on their formations it's not just a matter of taste, it's not arbitrary. It's an important strategic choice that depends on the opposing team's formation and the strengths and weaknesses of the players that are available.
I also understand that games that end in 1:0 after one goal scored at minute 25, are very appealing to many watchers. There is still everything to play for. If your team scores a goal during minute 88, you even it out and it goes into overtime. You can still win! If, hypothetically, football games were to regularly have a score of 15:11 at minute 85, instead of 3:2, it would feel much more difficult to come back from that.
It's not like people don't watch basketball, or Olympic handball, or ice hockey games to the end. It's not like football fans never follow hockey. But football doesn't need to be hockey. The game "resets" more often in basketball, so football is more "strategic", in some ways. People who watch football already like it that way.
If they made the goals bigger, there would be less bitching and moaning about that one penalty kick, or that one off-side that decided the game.
It's just good game design.

i love the concept of leon getting banished to cringefail MLS and desperately wanting to go back home 😭😭😭 I don’t know if you’ve ever seen people absolutely dunking on leon’s skating skills but maybe he did start out with hockey but got so mad about his lack of grace on skates that he’s just like fuck the stanley cup I will score goals. on my FEET! and then he ends up watching matthew in the playoffs
anon, i'm thrilled to hear this, because i also love the concept. i have no idea what kind of situation would have to occur for a german player who is theoretically good enough to play in the bundesliga to land himself on an mls team for a season but i have full faith that with some magical fanfiction handwaving a quasi-reasonable reason can be invented.
according to generous purveyor of german knowledge @irrelevanttous, when leon tried soccer (football, yes, i know) because all of his friends were playing it, he wound up quitting because he was mad the coach wouldn't let him take free kicks, which is such a funny and petty reason that coming up with an equally funny and petty reason for him to have quit hockey instead would be great fun. it's giving "NO DAD, I WANT TO LIVE MY DREAMS NOT YOURS" vibes, except for how i feel like peter would be like "that's great son let's buy you some new cleats."
anyway, the bright side of landing in south florida for this north american soccer adventure is that inter miami has easily the best logo in the league. which would be no comfort to leon the footballer who does not really want to be there, but it's fun for me personally. he'd look great in the black and pink. this is my soapbox for more pink in men's sports, you cowards.
so, for reasons, leon the footballer schleps across the atlantic. mls season starts in late february and i assume they have training and stuff before then so let's have him arriving in mid-january. he is so grumpy, and the fact that the weather is so nice makes him extra grumpy, because he is determined not to like it here. he will do what needs to be done to get his career back on track but this is TEMPORARY, okay?
except then maybe before the season kicks off, a bunch of the guys get a box at a panthers game as a little team bonding excursion. they don't really know much about hockey, they just think it would be fun. they definitely don't know how much leon knows about hockey — i don't think anyone in the miami soccer community knows what a peter draisaitl is; people in the north american ice hockey community barely know what a peter draisaitl is — and leon's like, he enjoys hockey as a spectator now, he'll play a little pickup with friends sometimes, but once his teammates figure out that he knows literally anything, they are clustered around him while they all watch this game, asking questions and laughing at his judgey little comments, and unfortunately for leon he winds up having fun.
after the game — panthers win, everyone's in a great mood — someone from the cats' pr team or whatever is like, hey, south florida sports supporting south florida sports, do you guys want to come meet some of our guys? yeah sure why not. and obviously amongst the guys doing this little meet and greet is one-man hospitality crew matthew tkachuk, whom leon definitely noticed on the ice, and is definitely noticing now, because uh oh, charming handsome man alert. matthew is shaking hands with every inter miami guy and asking their names in a way that seems genuine, but he's also oozing this easy confidence that really makes leon want to fuck with him a little. matthew gets to leon, shakes his hand as they exchange introductions; matthew says something like "you know, i don't know much about soccer but i'll have to get out to a game this season," and leon says, "yeah, well, i know a lot about hockey and whoever taught you to skate, i think they owe you your money back."
matthew stares at him, and leon has this moment of, ah fuck i was too mean again, why are americans SO sensitive, but then matthew laughs and says, "that would be my mom, and don't worry, i will definitely let her know." he's starting to breeze on by to the next soccer guy, but leon has this weird feeling of really wanting to continue the conversation — he blurts, "tell her don't worry about it, my father taught me and i was never any good at it, either."
this makes matthew stop and catch leon's eye again, and leon can see the shift in his expression from politely friendly to genuinely personally interested. it's subtle — he's not sure he's supposed to be able to see it — but matthew's smile goes a little crooked and there's this spark in his eye and oh, what a nice little win for leon. time is limited, though, so matthew must move on and finish meeting every single soccer guy, except before they all get shuffled out matthew circles back around to oh so smoothly be like, hey lemme give you my number so if you guys want to come to another game i can hook you up.
and thus it begins… an intense flirtation that turns into fucking that turns into feelings…. two elite atheletes desperate to prove themselves in their separate sports for different reasons……… one of them desperate to make a home in south florida and the other one deserate to get out…………… i just think it would be neat :)

Thommi on LinkedIn:
Full speed ahead... Welcome 2024!
There are a whole handful of things I'm particularly looking forward to this year. The Bundesliga kicks off again on Friday with a home game against Hoffenheim. In the Champions League, we face Lazio Roma with FC Bayern in February.
We have a lot planned for the second half of the season. Due to Bayer Leverkusen's strong performances so far this season, we are currently in the somewhat unfamiliar role of the hunter. But hopefully that will change soon...
Of course, the European Championship in our own country is hovering over everything this year. It would be great if we as a nation could look forward to this great football tournament in Germany, regardless of the DFB team's recent unsatisfactory results. We have the chance to present ourselves as great hosts in these difficult political times and to celebrate a peaceful and inspiring football festival together across all nations. The 2006 World Cup inevitably comes to mind. Back then, I experienced the tournament as a 16-year-old fan. The atmosphere in the stadiums and at the public viewings was absolutely magical.
Incidentally, I see the sporting situation today in a similar way to back then. We are rightly not one of the top favorites at the moment. But perhaps we can start the tournament on a positive note - as we did in 2006 - and then grow from game to game with the support of the German public.
I wish you a healthy, happy and successful 2024 and look forward to many LinkedIn moments together!
