Mack wakes up to the soft rustle of sheets and the faintest sigh, the kind that tugs right at his chest. It’s still early—barely dawn if the pale light peeking through the blinds has anything to say about it—but there’s a familiar warmth pressed close against him, a gentle weight that makes him smile before his eyes even open.

Will.

Of course it’s Will. His omega.

Mack blinks the sleep from his eyes, turns his head just enough to see Will curled up beside him, wrapped in Mack’s giant hoodie—the navy one with the faded Sharks logo and the fraying cuffs that Will insists is the most comfortable thing on Earth. His face is half-hidden in the collar, nose tucked in like he’s trying to breathe Mack in whole.

Mack doesn’t say anything at first. Just watches. He always feels a little awestruck when he wakes up like this—to Will, soft and sleepy and safe. His omega. His whole damn world. He shifts a little closer, careful not to wake him yet.

Except—

“You’re awake,” Will murmurs, voice muffled but unmistakably smug.

Mack snorts. “You were faking it?”

Will lifts his head, revealing the flush on his cheeks and the mischievous glint in his eye. “Not faking. Just…waiting.”

“Waiting for what?”

“This.” Will doesn’t elaborate, just scoots closer until he’s practically in Mack’s lap. Not that Mack’s complaining. He automatically opens his arms, and Will settles into them with a pleased little sigh.

“You’re so needy in the mornings,” Mack teases, nosing into Will’s hair.

“Only because you make me feel safe,” Will mumbles. “And warm.”

“Yeah?”

Will hums, but it’s not quite enough today. Not for him. Because a moment later, he’s tugging at Mack’s oversized sleep shirt.

“What are you doing?” Mack asks, watching with amused confusion as Will pushes up the hem.

“Getting closer,” Will says simply, like it should be obvious.

And then he’s crawling beneath the shirt, wriggling in until his arms are wrapped around Mack’s waist, face pressed to his chest, breathing slow and content.

Mack just…melts. There’s really no other word for it.

He wraps his arms around the lump of his omega under his shirt, running his hands up and down Will’s back slowly, soothingly. “You’re ridiculous,” he murmurs, but it comes out so fond it might as well be a love letter.

“You love it,” Will says, smug even when his voice is going all sleepy again.

“Yeah,” Mack says, quiet and reverent. “I really do.”

There’s a pause. Then, softly: “You know you’re everything to me, right?”

Will doesn’t say anything for a second, and Mack thinks maybe he’s already drifting off again. But then there’s a soft squeeze around his waist, and Will’s voice, muffled but certain:

“I know. You are to me too.”

Mack holds him tighter.

And if they don’t move from that position for the next hour, well…there’s nowhere else either of them would rather be.

ears twitch gently to the sound of his voice. he'd almost been lulled to sleep, the thumping of his tail slowing until rin spoke up. perhaps the vampire had expected him to be asleep when he admitted that, and he nearly was. shidou doesn't say anything, letting himself enjoy rin petting him a while longer before stirring and letting his rose colored eyes land on him, a small smile spreading across his face.

“is that true? how sweet of ya,” shidou purrs, leaning into rin's hand and lapping over his exposed forearm. even though he knows rin's feelings for his late husband would always be there, he understand as well that rin's feelings for him are different and separate. it fills him with a kind of warmth he never knew existed prior, but he enjoys it. ryusei leans in to lick rin's cheek, grinning cheekily and fully awake now. “just so ya know, i never cared about anyone before you, so yer special ta me. ya always will be.”

rosie is accustomed to mr. wexley's communal updates by now. the residents gather in the atrium, seeing as it is the largest open space for them to fit. it is noticeably fuller with the new arrivals, now they are out of official quarantine. at least there is enough seating for everyone, more so than the lobby would have provided were it accessible. that is her fault, but rosie doesn't regret setting the charges on that first day of panic, collapsing the front entrance in clouds of billowing cement and wood, trapping the infected outside.

with the owner of the building concludes today's brief message, most disperse. Introverts slip away to their apartments and penthouses, while the latest recon group gather together to review their upcoming departure. she stretches like a lanky cat, fingers twined together in front of her with arms straight out then raised before dropping back down to her sides. her ivory sweater is a bit too warm now the temperature outside is rising, but she'd rather be hot than cold.

whether or not immunity, delayed or doomed susceptible to maxed out rabies status is meant to be a secret, the results never are these days. those first tests back in the fall were passed out privately, but could they even be trusted? vince turned so quickly even though his results, like hers, reported delayed.

rosie hasn't heard what maisie's results are -- that gossip hasn't reached through the vine yet. will any of them be surprised if she's delayed ? what with her current sickly state ? no one within her radius has turned yet, thankfully.
