Tubi's whole rabbit hole campaign is one of my favorite things! I feel like they made it just for me!

Some of you may have noticed that I'm a bit obsessed with rabbits. The image takes so many forms within my imagination. I love how cute and fuzzy they are, especially their symbolism of spring and renewal and reproduction.

But when the images bring about the thoughts and feelings that edge toward the sinister and foreboding, I am beside myself with glee and enthusiasm.

Sorry I haven't been around much this summer. But I've been kicking ass in Duolingo! I have to make my daughter proud. So each 5 min chunk I have free I've been chugging away at that. But all y'all and our collective muses are always in my thoughts. Because y'all are my lifeline to sanity and sometimes the only adults I actually talk to about adult things.

Plus you can always count on my obsession to ALWAYS draw my attention back to this place.

The kind of fics our community creates are like no other writing I've ever seen. And that's not even bringing into account the smut portion of the writing here. Y'all know what I'm talking about. Nothing else compares.

Writers from this community have a far more fruitful imagination than what we can find elsewhere. And I'm not just referring to the dark or the weird, although those are priceless here—pure gold! No one writes crack fics like this community!!! But the fluff, the AUs, the angst, the horror, the eroticism, the dreamy pining, the slice of life, and the humor.

Halloween Day 20

And now hopefully back to our regular programming.

I like short stories, but they are far from my favorite form of writing, the only real exception being horror stories and particularly ghost stories. The tight format and structure needed gives the reader little chance to squirm away from their fears and gives the writer even less opportunity to get distracted from the job at hand - scaring a stranger.

the British Library Tales of the Weird series of anthologies are excellent in every way, from their choices of topic, the gorgeous covers, and their editors' deep searches for obscure scares. Of the ones i have read so far Glimpses of the Unknown is my favorite.

Got these lovely things today that I'm excited to start! They look and feel amazing! Two of my favorite works I read in fic version, I had to have the published version. Next month I will likely purchase Mistaken, because good god it was great and I need a physical copy.

A great thing about the size of the print it is easy to read! And also it is a large enough size my legally blind mother could read the text from a quick look. My mother is often too restricted from books because she needs large print books. I'm not sure if this is content she is interested in exactly, but I wanted to explain to those who need larger print.

Books published by @caffiend-queen, Arianna Fraser. She donates the money to crisis nurseries to help those who need it. The kids apparently can not hold onto a pair of socks, (a little mention that made me laugh) because I can agree- no young child can keep socks together. Please check out her work because she is a brilliant writer and an amazing person who helps with these generous donations. She clearly has a sense of humor too.

Summer Binge Reads

No summer binge read is complete without the epic perfection of my beloved @imanuglywombat​  Laura is one of the few writers who easily straddle funny and sexy in the same chapter, and often at the same time. One of my favorites is a battle to the death - or the bedroom - between spoiled Ransom Drysdale and an angry museum assistant director. Love in a Time of North Korea is glorious and clever in a way that the very best writing should be.

If your tastes are running dark on these sunny afternoons, pick Hungry Like the Wolf with Alpha Steve Rogers or one of Wombatina’s most famous stories, Die Besessenheit, with a Captain America who looks like a dream but will star in your nightmares.

Hey, guys I hope everyone's day is going spectacular! As you all know, today is Chris Evans 40th birthday!! I wanted to do something special for such a special day. Thus, I have compiled a list of my absolute favorite stories written for Chris Evans's characters.

Be advised, however, some of these are dubious consent, non-con, daddy kink, spitting, squirting, oral m/f receiving, creampie, anal, and all other manner of kinks I did not realize I enjoyed until joining the site.

Another tough choice. Synth comes straight for your heart and vagina, and you'll love her for it!

I may have bitten off more than I can chew, guys! It's so hard picking just one because there's nothing she's written that I can say is not one of my favorites. I'm telling you, get some wine or your favorite drink (alcoholic or not), put your feet up, and enjoy this lovely lady's artistry!

Back Rooms (punk!Me from Playing It Cool) - @fineanddandy

Not only did she use the fabulous @nix-akimbo edit for this one, but she makes you question if loyalty to a friend is worth walking away from a guy that genuinely wants you.

A Different Kind of Love (Alpha!Andy & Beta!Jake) - @river-soul

Can you imagine having both Jake and Andy in an A/B/O world? Read this story and you won't have to imagine!

Wear Me Down (Ari Levinson) - @navybrat817

Her fight is commendable, but you can't fight fate!

The Valentine's Cock Up (Steve Rogers) - @drabblewithfrannybarnes

God, this makes me laugh just thinking about it!

This had to be my hardest pick yet. What can I say about this ridiculously talented author? She made me lust over Robert Pronge which I promise was not an easy feat. I went kicking and screaming, but I'm here. Honorable Mention to her latest series Necessary Arrangements & Devil's Advocate.

Good Little Wife (Soft!Dark!Mob!Andy Barber) - @donutloverxo

All of her stories have a sort of soft and gentle reader that the men trip over themselves to take care of. I love it!

Goodbye Again (Endgame!Steve Rogers & Avengers!Steve Rogers) - @sweetlyscared

I can go on all day about how much I love this story! The emotions, the love, the loss, gah!!! I'll never not reblog this story.

Snowed In (Ransom Drysdale) - @the-iceni-bitch

Another author who has me lusting over Robert Pronge! I love her Ransom stories, beginning with Snowed In, because while he's still an ass, his girl gives it back just as easily.

Renewing Vows (Dark!Steve Rogers) - @gotnofucks

Dibs is one of my favorite authors. She's one of the few authors on this site that when you read her stories, especially the dark ones, you feel the obsession and single-minded desire to possess you no matter the circumstances. I love how she incorporates her culture in some of her stories as well, particularly the Happily Ever After series. You know it's wrong, but seeing the Avengers in their desi apparel still makes me go, "aww! They really want to make her feel welcomed!" P.S. I really, really came close to choosing Murder at the Whorehouse!

Dark Assassin (Dark!Silverfox!Steve Rogers) - @kleohoneyao3

It took me forever to find this story again. I've always been attracted to older men, but Silverfox!Steve is the goat! My second favorite is Of the Earth.

Little Red series (Steve/Curtis/Andy/Ransom/Johnny) - @autumnrose40

This proud Omega always gives you the best C. Evans characters stories. And she's not afraid to push boundaries with different species(werewolves, mermen, octogods, etc). I'm always so happy to see she's posted something.

Creamsicle (Robert Pronge & Dark!Andy Barber) - @sapphirescrolls

I don't think I need to list Robert as dark, do I??? While she has a cornucopia of dark writings, this is my favorite!

I Have Questions (Steve Rogers) - @royallyprincesslilly

Accidentally dirty-talking Steve Rogers? Hell yeah!

Unhappily Married (Dark!Steve Rogers) - @cherienymphe

This is a wonderfully talented dark writer. I almost chose Twice Bitten several times because (1) she writes vampires the way they're meant to be written, and (2) Steve is so unapologetically hot and cold with the reader it makes me weep. But I do love kids (set in fiction only) and poor Nathan needs a real mother!

Hirsute (Werewolf!Andy Barber) - @avintagekiss24

Whew! This was tough. I literally love all her stories, particularly Blue Ocean Floor and her latest, 'with the weight of the world at the tips of my fingers.' There's a sleek elegance to her writing that is unmatched.

Let Me Teach You (Jake Jensen) - @vannybarber

Jake Jensen does not get enough love. Luckily, he's starting to come up. This writer gives him all the love and appreciation he deserves with this story.

Tell Me You Love Me (Steve Rogers) - @lotusss-flowerbomb

We all have pasts, but if you're going to let your co-workers get drunk around your girl, give her a heads up that you may or may not have hooked up with the gorgeous red-haired spy. Loved this so much!!

Mr. and Mrs. Ari Levinson Invite You to...the Worst Wedding. Ever. (Mob!Ari Levinson) - @caffiend-queen

I've never seen Ari written like this. He's wild and crazy and utterly addicted to his new little wife.

I loved everything about this wedding, especially the author letting us see the different Jewish wedding traditions. If you didn't love Ari before this story, you will after this story!

This was fun you guys! And it gives me a point of reference in case I once again lose some of the stories listed here.

I started these reading lists a year ago to help signal boost writers as well as spread positivity within the community. I have enjoyed being able to do my part over the last year as it has introduced so many wonderful people in my life.

But with all good things there is always a negative drawback, for me it was bullying. I’m sorry to those who looked forward to these lists. Maybe after some down time I will pick this up again.

Since I haven't written fanfiction in ages - apart from co-written fanfic with the fabulous @tinchentitri - I'm going to answer a few of these as a romance writer.

— How long have you been writing fanfiction?

I became a self-published romance novelist in 2014. Though I've been writing all my life, so to speak.

— Do you have a favorite word? (One that you love. Doesn’t necessarily have to be one you use all the time.)

Absolutely JUST. Millions of it to edit out before publishing.

Also lots of 'quirked' or 'raised' brows, oops.

— What is your favorite kind of character interaction to write? — Do you have a hyper-specific genre?

Kissing scenes. And oddly, emotional scenes or quarrels.

Also, I love writing multicultural romance because that's real life. True love knows no geographic or racial boundaries.

— What is your biggest challenge in writing?

The sagging middle of each book. So much harder than beginnings and endings.

— What story or scene are you most proud of?

I've written almost 20 books and I'm proud of them all, though I now cringe at the earlier ones.

I guess as Devika Fernando, I'm proudest of the three books in the Inn Love series. The first one is set in England, the second one in Canada, and the third one in Italy.

As Gisela Grey, I'm proudest of my Loki novel and of my collaborations with the amazing @cassmichaels.

Not that I wouldn't answer for others as well, but my ratio of follow-through versus half-finished sitting in my drafts is a bit lopsided toward the latter.

#6. Describe what you do and your feelings after posting a chapter.

So I have a very difficult time finishing anything. I have so many half started and almost done fics just begging for that final polish. Unfortunately they just sit there. *sigh.

BUT WHEN I DO POST.....

I am on top of the world and can't resist telling everyone that "I did it!!" including a household of people who couldn't care less. They're no fun at all.

Validation and praise is so ADDICTIVE! Ever since the first time you, @caffiend-queen , said you thought I was funny — I've been hooked ever since!

Did anyone see it? Did anyone see it? I'll be honest. If one or two friends read and comment, then my heart is filled up to the brim. Everything comes up roses!

#11. Who is your favorite character(s) to write about and why?

Initially I wrote a few Fassbender fics - RPF or AU. I was obsessed with the idea of him in scrubs as a nurse. Nurse!Fassbender - can't you see it? (Haven't posted anything of those yet.) I was head over heels for him at the time.

Then I started seeing Hiddleston in a zillion different AU, as well as a couple RPF. I couldn't get enough reading and couldn't stop writing down thought after thought after thought. Laing and Sharpe talk VERY loudly in my brain.

@thewidowlaufeyson-blog truly boosted my confidence. I'll never forget how much fun we had knee deep in a humid murky southern AU story. Again never finished, but a huge part of my heart.

Loki has always intimidated me. But I've been pushing myself since I started hanging out with Loki's Library on Discord. They've been an excellent inspiration and so supportive, especially @latent-thoughts who showed me how exciting it is to write WITH someone and @boredbrooder, my partner in crime more often than not.

Recently I can't get enough of Sebastian Stan's characters. I've lost interest in RPF, and just choose one of his incarnations to star in the AU flavor of that day. Omg. TRULY can't get enough of him!!

I have a couple Chris Evans incarnations. But nowhere near ready to post.

#9. What inspired you to write your first fic?

I'm a voracious reader, especially with fanfiction. I can't get enough! I came for the smut and stayed for the amazing writers here. Such talent!!! And so welcoming and fun to talk to; to spitball and brainstorm with: to joke and laugh together; and share our dreams and nightmares completely free of judgement.

I started writing because I wanted to play too! I wanted to give back. I wanted to share my insane crazy wild ideas with these amazing people I met here.

Halloween Day 23

"Every inch of the cabin was sagging a hundred years later, weary of standing. Tananarive Due is the one of the greatest living horror and speculative fiction writers. Her African Immortals series sits in the perfect crossroads of the fantastic and the terrifying, and Joplin's Ghost is a chilling favorite of mine.

The Wishing Pool is a story of family and loss and sorrow. As a person of a certain again I find it perfect for a night when the wind works its way through dying leaves and you find yourself trying to remember the faces of those who you have loved and lost.

Reigning in Hel, Rapacity, Perfection, The Road to Hel is Paved with Misunderstandings, and Hel is Being Other People

do you respond to comments, why or why not?

Always.  I love comments, and I love knowing the thoughts and loves and hates of anyone reading my work.  

what’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

I’m not one for angsty endings but Falling, In Love and Elsewhere fits that description.

do you write crossovers? if so what is the craziest one you’ve written?

Not yet, but I have one in the works for Halloween

have you ever received hate on a fic?

I’ve had a little anger, and recently I had some snippiness about if a character was fetishizing a specific group or not, but that is about it.

do you write smut? if so what kind?

I do write smut.  I never write non-con, and almost never dub con. I love to write dirty talk, and kissing, and sensuality.  There is kink in a lot of my stories, though it is pretty light.  Some bondage, a lot of teasing, some toys, etc.  For me, writing sex is about writing the evolving connection between the characters, and to write about the specific language that two characters will have in bed.

I think I’ve had a story or two stolen in translation.

Not with my consent.

I am starting to worry about The Tale of the Golden Horn, my pirate Loki story.  I want to finish it, but the inspiration isn’t there.

Dialogue and characterization.

Plot and pacing.

That I am probably doing it wrong and hope I don’t offend anyone.

Yikes!  My favorite series it Loki and Nora’s Infinity Stone Playlist, and my favorite story in it is either  I Will Let You Drag Me Into Hel, or Misunderstandings.  Otherwise its either What the Hel is Going On? my Myth Loki and Sigyn story, or The Bottom of the Hourglass, which is an Only Lovers Left Alive AU.

Writer’s Spotlight | Nildespirandum

This week I am spotlighting one of my favorite writers, @nildespirandum​!  She is the Adam writer that made me both scared and brave enough to write Adam myself.  She is the weaver of worlds, the creator of characters so real you think they are sitting next to you.  Smart, funny, and an amazing writer!

I use Misreall on AO3.

How long have you been writing fic?

I am on this current round for about four years, but I did write before though that was a decade ago.

What fandoms and/or ships do you write?

Tom Hiddleston characters, though not RPF.  Primarily Loki, but I have written for Thomas Sharpe, Adam from Only Lovers Left Alive, and Conrad from Kong: Skull Island.  For all of them I have written OFCs.

How did you get started writing fic?

I had ideas for a fics for a while, but it wasn't until I started commenting and then talking to @caffiend-queen that I decided it was time to do something about it.

Story Recommendations

Which of your stories are your favorite?

I hate this question, but if I had to pick it would be the cycle of stories called Loki and Nora's Infinity Stone Playlist, both because it is my first, and because I think the relationship between the characters - not just Loki and Nora, but the cast that has build up around them - allows me to tell so many tales.

Which story are you most proud of?

Either Perfection - my Crimson Peak AU, or Reigning in Hel - A JotunLoki series.

Which of your stories do you think is the most underrated?

Probably At Hel's Edge, which is a historical mash-up of MCU Loki, with MythLoki.  The people who read it loved, it but it never found much of an audience.  Possibly because of the style I wrote it in, or maybe because the MCULoki character was a bit abstract from his origin.  But I am very, very lucky that it is getting a second life as a Webtoon drawn by @rauko-art, who is incredibly gifted and has worked so hard to make something really beautiful.

Someone is new to reading your stories, which story/stories should they read first?

For Loki, the Infinity Stone Playlist.  Otherwise, maybe Perfection.

Which story did you do the most research for?

Perfection.  I can tell you how much a yard of silk cost in 1910, both in England and the US.  

Which story was the easiest to write?

Probably my Incubus Loki first series.  It was so over the top and goofy that it was effortless.  Rapacity - my vampire Loki story - is also quite easy.  There may be a trend here.

The Writing Process

What is your favorite part of writing?

To quote Dorothy Parker, "I hate writing, but I love having written."  With that said, I love the moment when I am lost in the process, and the characters are narrating and I am taking dictation.  

What is your least favorite part?

Editing, which is probably why I hardly ever do it.  That said, I am fine editing other people's work.  

Describe your style in 1 to 2 sentences.

Breezily conversational when it isn't breaking your heart.

Who are some of your writing idols and/or influences?

I don't have time, and you certainly wouldn't have the patience, for my full list but a few key choices are Jane Austen, Anthony Bourdain, Ian Shoales, Alexander Dumas, the Brothers Grimm, Neil Gaiman, Louisa May Alcott, Balzac, Mary Roach, Bebe Moore Campbell, Douglas Adams.  But all of that said it was probably Howard Pyle, the D'aulaires, Zilpha Keatley Snyder, Winifred Madison, and Ruth Chew whose books I read over and over to the point of them falling apart are probably the writers who made me, not only on the page, but in life.

What programs do you use to write and/or edit?

I do all of my writing and editing in Google docs.   I'm a Luddite at heart.

Are you a plotter or a pantser?

A pantser.  I might have some of a story in mind when I start, but usually I start with an image and let fly.  The entirety of my Bottom of the Hourglass story came from my seeing a folded bookcase leaning against a basement door.

Do you write RPF or not?

Years ago I wrote an RPF as a gift for a friend. For the future, I never say never.

Who is your favorite character to write and why?

Loki.  Loki is the gift that keeps on giving.  While I could flippantly say that all of that emotional and mental trauma is fic writer catnip - and I wouldn't be lying - there is so much more.  He is a character of such wit and imagination, powerful, funny, wise, and a complete idiot.  The Trickster is such brilliant architype, playing both sides of the fence, fooling and being fooled, capable of great good and true evil.  He is vastly entertaining, and achingly sympathetic.  I can go on, but I will spare you.

What do you think are your writing strengths?

Dialogue, for one.  I am proud that if you read the dialogue alone from my stories you can tell who each character is, that they all have a distinct voice.

What do you struggle with?

Plot.  I get so very bored with plot.  

Favorite Trope?

That's like being asked to pick a favorite anything, I can't do it.  Ok, fine, enemies to lovers.

Favorite word to use?

Delightful.  Or Really.

What is the best piece of writing advice you have heard?

Make time for your writing.  Even when you think you can't.

What would you say to a new fanfic writer starting out?

Don't be afraid, don't shrink and hide and diminish yourself, you have to be your own first, best audience.  Also, always remember, art doesn't apologize and neither should you, as long as you feel you have given the best you can at any given time - which will not always be the same, EVERYONE has off days - then be proud of having written, of having added to the world.

What is a random bit of research you have not managed to work into a fic yet?

I did so much research on boats and ship to ship combat for my pirate story that I will never use all of it.  Generally I am pretty efficient with my research, mostly because I already have a brainful of useless knowledge that I am still trying to make pay off.

What is your favorite random detail from one of your stories?

I love that in the later Infinity Stone Playlist stories Loki's various lounging robes have magical pockets that always produce cookies.  

Any goals or WIPs you want to share?

I am determined to finish both The Frost Queen and The Tales of the Golden Horn this spring, and I have decided I am going to commit to the sequel to Perfection about Thomas and Alice's grandson that I have had in mind since I finished their story.

- @revengingbarnes Fatima’s work is absolutely stunning. I don’t know how else to explain it. She writes so beautifully and she’s one of the first people I ever followed because I immediately fell in love with her work. One of my favorites of her’s is Stable

- @hela-avenger This lovely lady has a fic based on Harry Styles’ Golden where two broken people find the light in each other. It’s really beautiful and I’ve read it on more than one occasion. You can find it here Golden

Every year for the last 8 years, I’ve worked at a haunted house to save a historic building and it’s one of my favorite times of the year. But thanks to Covid-19, that’s not going to happen in 2020.

But then I thought, maybe, I could create my own haunted house this year right here. Maybe some of my friends would want to help me? 

The Premise

A celebrity haunted house for charity will be open one night only, Halloween night.You spent days trying to get a ticket online for the event. Thanks to a bad day on Halloween, you get there only a minute before the line closes. You’re the last person to go in and thinking that’s either really bad (everyone is tired or would be in a hurry to see you out) or really good (maybe you’d get some extra time with the one you came to see). 

You are never seen again.

You select the set of the celebrity you’re there to see. When you get too close, you step into another dimension - their world -- and there’s no escape.

What happened to you? Did the “celebrity” you came to see decide to keep you? Tell us all about it.

I’ll be posting a story each of the 31 days of October for this. 😈

Rules of the Road

Do you have to follow me to participate?

Not at all. It’s always appreciated but not expected.

Limit two characters per writer. 

Limit three stories per character.

These can be reader insert or OC stories. 

Ethnic, Interracial, LGBTQ+ and polyamorous stories are welcome and encouraged.

Minimum 500 words. No max.

It must be an original work and not part of an existing series.

Must be exclusive to this challenge please.

No sexual situations with minors, no bodily functions (urine, water sports, feces), and no snuff (character is deliberately killed after sex scenario). Non-con and dub-con must fall into within the bounds of commonly posted dark fics.

What type of story do I write?

Be creative. If the character is already scary (looking at you Freezy), they may just be themselves. Maybe Clint comes at you as the Scream killer. Maybe Jefferson decides to play the Marquis de Sade. Anything goes as long as the goal is that the character claims their prey. You.
