Self promo for my newest card game, Jewel Thief; but you can play it for free! First, though, let's cover the basics...

"What is Jewel Thief?"

It's a card matching game with a villain; one player tries to match jewels in a 36 card grid while their opponent, the titular Jewel Thief, periodically steals cards from the board. You can check out its page on The Game Crafter for more information, but it'll spoil the rest of this post

"What makes it special?"

The game's turn structure would theorettically allow you, perhaps via some kind of infinite cloning machine, to play a round of Jewel Thief til the heat death of the universe. While I wouldnt recommend that, its lack of a player cap (and ease of set-up; seriously, all you do is put cards on a table) makes it a good party game choice.

But that's not all!

There are three extra rule variants that drastically alter the gameplay while keeping card matching and stealing as main mechanics. I believe the cards are versatile enough to allow for many custom games, too

"Okay, but why should I buy a silly game from some bug nerd?"

First off, ouch. Second off, that's the best part; you dont have to buy it to play it! Jewel Thief can be played with a standard 52 card deck. Here's how:

Step 1. Remove the 10s, Jacks, Queens, Kings and Jokers

Step 2. Download the free rules from the shop page

Step 3. Play the game, matching cards based on their values. You'll need to designate a value as the Diamond jewel for game 4

Today I'm releasing an indie game! You can play it for free on PC, Mac, Linux, and Android! After dipping my toes into game design work in early 2023, my wife and friends hosted a Game Jam for my birthday (The Gamiel Jamiel). With the theme, 'Season', my team started brainstorming an overcooked inspired card game. 48 hours later we had a workable game with basic mechanics, four levels, and a short narrative. As narrative/writing lead, I learned a ton that weekend but in the following months, my group started talking about polishing the game. We built a plan around additional jams and throughout 2024 kept working on More Than You Can Chew. We added an arcade mode, expanded the story( and added voice-over), and our developer went ham on UI and game feel bringing it to an incredible level of polish. I'd say more about the narrative but will leave that for another time, once it's out in the world for a bit. It's available for PC, MAC, Linux, and Android all via Itch! I hope you enjoy :D

i know it's just a typo but "evil bad family" is perhaps the truest and realest description of the masters ive ever seen. found family but all of them suck and hate each other and don't want to be here, god bless <3

as for her preferred genre of war crimes, well... ive alluded to it a number of times already. simply put, the scoundrel follows the "canon" blueprint for power ending characters, which means she eventually takes the title of Mr Cards.

in practice, this means she's a master (and notorious hoarder) of deception and probability. the CEO of gambling, essentially. lotteries, casinos, card games, gacha games- you name it, she owns it. she isn't very influential now, but come the neon future?

...there's no better way to put it than saying she's a master of addiction. specifically the sort of insidious, commonplace addiction we have regarding microtransactions in the modern day. think of all the times people have been hit with FOMO over a limited-time event, or all the stories of people going bankrupt over genshin impact pulls. the scoundrel thrives off of that. she uses her natural charisma to entice people into playing all sorts of perfectly polished luck-based games, where you're never strictly forced to spend money, but there's always just enough stinginess to make you want to spend just a little bit more. just one more roll of the dice. just one more round at the slots. just one more draw of the cards.

he's very popular, in-universe. people claim he's the fairest master of them all. and he is! no other master is so kind, so generous, so convincing. he just wants to entertain. he just wants to spread joy. can you really deny such an earnest dream? of course you should spend all you have to support him! he needs it! he deserves it! just one more small purchase, just one more lucky roll. it's just enough to keep you going. it's just enough to keep the world going.

you can't stop. you won't stop. she's convinced you that you don't want to ever stop. sure, sometimes you blink and you've spent nearly 40 grand chasing a single lootbox item, but who cares? who hasn't? you've already invested so much time, so much energy, so much of your life- you can't stop now. you're nothing without this. you're nothing without her.

and then your wallet is empty, and she abandons you, and you're nothing at all. but it's not her fault. it's never her fault. she just wants to entertain. she deserves the world.

contrary to popular belief, i work on other things that aren't ruikasa...

this past semester i've been working as the artist for a game called "coffee for cthulhu"!! i joined a team of two other people, our game designer + programmer, who had an idea to make a cozy coffee shop game that combined elderich horrors.. that are cute?

i've been grinding away at the art, and we finally released the game today!! it's on steam (windows pc) for $3.99, we've been working pretty hard on it, it's a cute and short game to play through.

it's our capstone project for our major, the first video game to come out of our specific program! super cool.
