Happy Independence Day to Jamaicans everywhere 🇯🇲
Jamaica gained its independence from Britain 62 years ago on August 6, 1962.
Did you know that the Red-Billed Streamertail is endemic to Jamaica? This hummingbird species is also the national bird of Jamaica, where it’s called the “Doctor Bird” because the male’s long, black tail feathers and black crest have a striking resemblance to the coattails and top hat of doctors in the past.

Where is St Lucia/Lucian and what's it like there?
🇱🇨Saint Lucia changed hands of ownership between England & France 14 times!! Lol yes a whopping 14 times (7 times France, 7 times England) until England eventually won. But there is still many remnants of French influence that can be found like in our Kwèyól (Creole) language for example. We gained independence on February 22, 1979. We’re a volcanic island and you can even explore the Sulphur Springs where the (mostly inactive I hope🤣) volcano is. The drive in Sulphur Springs is one of our main tourist attractions along with our beautiful mountain peaks The Pitons. And if you like hiking you can tackle the Petit Piton and the more difficult Gros Piton. Like most islands we have our cultural events and our yearly carnival which is super lit 💃🏾✨🪅🎊🌴🇱🇨 Lots of great food especially fresh seafood and there are weekly fish frys you can attend in different parts of the island. There’s more I could mention but that’s a little quick summary for you 🏾❤️ 🏝️

Gwoka, from the French Caribbean Islands of Guadeloupe.
Enslaved Africans in Guadeloupe had used Gwoka to communicate through music, song, and dance. Nowadays, this cultural expression celebrates and continues the legacy and stories of the people of Guadeloupe.
In this video, the barefoot dancer—a Black woman with ankle-length locs and wearing a sleeveless, white top and red flared shorts with a pleated hem that ends a little above her knees—is communicating with the lead drummer to perform the notes based on each step she makes. The specific rhythm, which the other drummers are playing, is called Léwoz. There are seven rhythms in total that express different moods and tell various stories.
