#Celebrimbor/Orodreth

Note
gil-galad/elrond for 23 (as encouragement), OR celebrimbor/orodreth for 54 (out of envy or jealousy)?
Celebrimbor/Orodreth is a really big-brained ship. I was very won over by Visitor's version of it in the Mamma Mia AU (btw everyone should read the Mamma Mia AU: here we go again)
Unfortunately, this is not that.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Túrin looked grave as he always did, a permanent line etched between dark brows, but his mouth softened when he saw Finduilas holding out the wreath of flowers.
Celebrimbor's stomach twisted, ugly thoughts rising to choke him. Just a few months ago he thought he could feel only happiness for Finduilas and would have rejoiced to see the soft smile she now turned towards Túrin as he accepted the wreath. But a few months ago he had not seen the bewitching beauty of Túrin: raven-haired, eyes of fascinating matte-grey, smooth pale skin that contrasted with rough black hair on his chin and chest, and shoulders that stunned whether draped in thin linen or chain-mail.
After an evening consuming copious amounts of apple brandy with Finduilas to soften what felt like a stiff parody of their old friendship, he had confessed his jealousy of her.
Her musical laugh had discordant notes. "Túrin son of Húrin loves me not; nor will," she had said before discarding her glass to drink straight from the bottle.
Those were her words, yet in a city full of adoration, only Finduilas seemed capable of eliciting any warmth from Túrin.
"Hmph."
Celebrimbor turned to see Orodreth standing next to him with a look of sour discontent that mirrored his own heart.
"You too?" Celebrimbor asked.
Orodreth startled; a guilty look flashed over his face before his scowl deepened. "Valar forgive a father for looking in sadness upon his daughter's entanglement with a mortal," he bit out. "You cannot understand the pain."
"Of course not, my liege." Celebrimbor echoed Orodreth's sarcasm. "Our positions are utterly dissimilar."
Túrin set the wreath upon his head after an elaborate bow to Finduilas. Finduilas laughed and straightened the flowers, standing on tip-toe to do so. The two turned towards the table where Celebrimbor and Orodreth stood.
Celebrimbor thought for a moment that he should try to smile, to at least pretend that envy did not eat at him, but before he could summon the strength, Orodreth grabbed his shoulder and pulled him close.
Their mouths met in a rather painful bump. Celebrimbor's mouth open in surprised while Orodreth's was still in a tight frown. Then Celebrimbor snapped his lips shut as Orodreth opened too wide. He jerked back.
"What!" Celebrimbor could not quite manage a question.
"They're watching!" Orodreth hissed.
Celebrimbor's eyes darted over to Túrin and Finduilas. Túrin's frown had turned adorably quizzical, but Finduilas was staring at them chalky with rage.
Orodreth had a wild look about him, but he was very pretty, and did have the fetching gold curls Celebrimbor had once thought his greatest weakness before being introduced to the concept of chest hair.
They met again in alignment, with sweetly parted lips and gently questing tongues.
There were worse ways to try and mend his broken heart, Celebrimbor thought. And maybe he could finally get Orodreth to let him remake his horribly boring crown.
House of Finwe ranked by how much they look like Finwe
Uncanny resemblance tier:
Lalwen - Literally just her dad but genderbent. Same facial structure and blue-grey eyes and gorgeous raven black hair. Only difference is that her hair is wavy rather than pin straight like Finwe’s.
Fingolfin & Argon - Exact same facial structure and eye color, Fingolfin is almost as tall as Finwe but not quite, Argon is taller than Finwe (& the same exact height as Maedhros). They have a very dark brown shade of hair instead of black however.
Aredhel - 60:40 blend of Fingolfin & Anaire but looks more like Fingolfin and therefore looks a good deal like Finwe. She gets her black hair from Anaire rather than Fingolfin but it still adds to her resemblance with Finwe.
Gil-Galad - Finwe’s genes may have almost skipped Angrod & Orodreth entirely but somehow he ended up 57% Finwe.
Maeglin - Looks mostly like his gorgeous mother except he has Eol’s eyes and somewhat of a sharper bone structure than Aredhel though.
Very similar but still notably different tier:
Aegnor - Looks the most like Finwe out of all the Arafinweans. He has the same smile, a very similar face shape, & the same nose. He’s around 55% Finwe, 40% Earwen, & 5% Indis.
Maglor - 53% Finwe, 40% Nerdanel, 7% Miriel. His body type, his eye color, & his freckles are from Nerdanel. A lot of his facial features are Finwe’s but he has a heart shaped face like Miriel and a similar eye shape.
Finarfin - Exactly 50% Finwe & 50% Indis. Some of his facial features are a lot like Finwe’s except people (including both Finwe & Indis) focus way more on his Vanyarin coloring to realize it. His hair is also loosely curled along with being gold like Indis’s rather than straight.
Finrod - Looks just like Finarfin with Earwen’s eyes.
Curufin - Read Feanor’s and then come back. Unlike Feanor he does get his eyes from Finwe but his are more silvery & sparkly.
Feanor - Barely behind Finarfin in terms of resemblance to Finwe but several people would dispute this and say he looks more like Finwe between the two. He’s 50% Miriel, 47% Finwe, & 3% something original entirely. Neither Finwe nor Miriel have his radiant shining eyes that look like they have shards of pale jewels within them but some argue his eyes are a variation of Finwe’s grey ones. His silky raven hair is undeniably Finwe’s but his is wavy. His stature & body shape are similar to Finwe’s but like Fingolfin he’s still a little shorter. His face is a mixture of Finwe & Miriel’s most beautiful features, but he has a little more of Miriel’s.
Celebrimbor - Almost looks exactly like Feanor except his eyes don’t burn with quite the same intensity. There’s also a little something of his mother in his smile.
Caranthir - Canonically got his hair from Finwe, but also got his complexion from Nerdanel. I see him as as 45% Finwe, 50% Nerdanel, & 5% Miriel.
Fingon - He looks very similar to Aredhel but he’s 60% Anaire and 40% Fingolfin whereas she’s the opposite. He looks more like Anaire but also eerily resembles Maglor in some angles due to specifically inheriting a very similar set of features from Finwe (not sure if this makes his relationship with Maedhros more or less weird depending on your interpretation).
A fair deal of resemblance but also looks quite different tier:
Turgon - 50% Anaire, 30% Fingolfin, 20% Indis. Looks the most Vanyarin out of his family, no wonder why he’s the closest to them. Still looks very clearly Noldorin at the same time though. His hair is still the lightest brown out of his siblings.
Elrond & Elros - 30% Finwe, 10% Earendil, 60% Luthien. Due to genes skipping generations like with Gil-Galad, they look more like Finwe than Idril & Earendil do. If you look closely they kind of resemble Maglor despite how far apartly they’re related to him. Maedhros sees a lot of Fingon in them though.
They have about 1 notable feature in common with him tier:
Galadriel - Same eyes as Finwe, she gets her smile from him too, which she also shares with Feanor. She’s 55% Earwen & 45% Finarfin, but she got more of her dad’s Indis features than his Finwe features.
Maedhros - His diamond face shape & high bridged nose are Finwe’s.
Amrod & Amras - They have his eyes, both the blue-grey color and the shape. Nothing else though.
Findis - She’s almost entirely Indis but she has grey eyes and caramel hair between brown & gold. Her Noldorin heritage shines through due to those 2 things but she doesn’t look her dad particularly.
They just don’t look like him tier:
Celegorm - 95% Miriel, 5% Nerdanel. Almost the spitting image of his grandmother but he gets his height, eye color, & freckles from Nerdanel. His hair is straight so maybe 0.5% of him is Finwe but does it really count?
Idril - Takes a lot after both Elenwe & Anaire but she didn’t get Finwe or Fingolfin’s features.
Earendil - Around 60% his mom, who doesn’t look like Finwe, & 40% his dad, who isn’t related to Finwe.
Angrod - Olwe with Vanyarin hair.
Orodreth - Has grey eyes, but he probably got them from his mother rather than Finwe.
Finduilas - Looks almost like a female version of her grandfather and a golden haired version of Earwen.
I know their ages are all wrong, but please imagine Baby Celebrimbor, Idril, and Orodreth in one of the most awkward play dates of all time.
Finwë set it up and gave Curufin, Turgon, and Angrod no choice but to bring their children along
Just how willing members of the House of Finwë are to 1v1 Dark Lords (or 2v1 - 5v1? - but then Gil-Galad achieved his purpose so I'll cut him some slack here) would make me concerned about their general sanity if I wasn't already aware the collective amount is only not at zero because Finarfin is an outlier adn should not have been counted
What did Celebrimbor see in Finduilas' eyes?
As their fathers dueled with words over the throne of Nargothrond, over Finrod's life, when Celebrimbor's tongue was knotted in his mouth and words choked in his throat, did his eyes desperately latch on to the family member closest to him in age? The only Finwean who had also been silent during this whole exchange? Did he look to her for some help, some commiseration as their family ripped itself apart again and they stood helplessly by, again?
They were full-grown in the years of the Eldar but each was a child still in the sight of their family, and when their fathers yelled at each other they certainly never stopped, not even for diplomacy, not even for their children, so what would be the point of taking a stand. Could he even take a stand against his own father? Against the Oath? Did Celebrimbor look for sympathy in Finduilas' eyes?
Did he find condemnation there instead?
forgive me for rambling but i just realized turin being in nargothrond meant he would've met celebrimbor and ain't that a sight. like i don't expect friendship from these two but its funny af to see them beef with each other (especially the bridge issue) with orodreth as a mediator lmao
lmao! for some reason this formed an image in my head: orodreth finding himself in a room with the two of them (bad luck, very bad luck) and, as one does, attempting to keep cordial and civilized conversation going. his smile is strained but you would only notice that if you're really close with him. meanwhile celebrimbor and turin nodding along with him while staring straight at each other the entire time. they never exchange words directly -- they only ever speak to orodreth -- but they never break eye contact with each other either. orodreth is sweating at this point but again you would only notice that if you're really close with him.
Finweans ranked by Aura
Feanor - So powerful he sucked the life force out of his mother, invented a ton of cool shit, had more children with his wife than any of the other Eldar, died in battle while his body combusted into flames because he was just that hot, & the King of the Valar who he hated cried over him.
Earendil - Cool as hell, has a wife who's cool as hell. Predestined to be a hero even though he comes from a basic vanilla bloodline (besides his great grandpa Fingolfin). Even though most of his ancestors were nobodies or flops, most of his descendants that came after him were cool as hell.
Maedhros - Might have been higher than his father & cousin if he didn't khs, Lowkey an Aura loss moment but he makes up for a lot with his gorgeous red hair, height, surviving Morgoth's torture, & sorta fulfilling his dad's dumb oath.
Fingolfin - The only good thing his bland vanilla mother did was give birth to him. He was a total badass I've got to admit even as a Feanorian stan. Him crossing the helcaraxë & his death were top Aura moments.
Elrond/Elros - They're twins so they can share a spot too. Both badass as hell.
Fingon - Called "the Valient", braids gold into his hair, saved his sexy redheaded cousin, & became King of the Noldor. Everything about him screams Aura.
Galadriel - Despite the fact she's a Feanor anti (Booooo!!!), she admittedly has a ton of Aura. She's smarter than possibly everyone else here given she survived when the rest of her generation either got themselves killed or spends all their time being a sad beach cryptid.
Gil-Galad - Cool as hell, managed to make an alliance Maedhros could only dream of.
Maglor - Has a couple Aura loss moments but in the end he LIVED which is an Aura gain. Also gets Aura points for having the best voice in Arda.
Celebrimbor - Pretty rad dude, love how he's more like Feanor than his father Curufinwe Jr is, unfortunately he died.
Finrod - His death is cool as fuck. Looses points for cockblocking his little brother & dying for that basic joe Beren though.
Caranthir - Goth Icon. Love how despite his raging anger issues he's also an awesome guy you'd want to be friends with.
Finwe - A massive flop in a ton of ways but definitely still has Aura. Looses Aura points for failing Feanor & choosing to marry an unsexy Vanya when he could've waited for his sexy talented silver haired Noldo wife to come back to life. Only good thing about him besides his awesome hair is that he's Feanor & Fingolfin's father.
Aredhel - Cool as hell but has terrible taste in men. Her whole white aesthetic & her wild personality gain her Aura points though.
Turgon - The only cool thing about him is that he built Gondolin which wins him some Aura points. Looses Aura points for getting played by his nephew & dying pathetically though.
Idril - She's cool I guess, the only thing of note that she did was give birth to the chad Earendil. Tuor is such a basic guy though, he's not the worst but she could do better.
Aegnor - Cool hair. Pulled a baddie. Fumbled the baddie.
Angrod - Not the most stand out Finwean but he seems to be a mama's boy & he didn't do anything wrong so I'll put him above the family flops.
Finduilas - She's a sweetie but she looses Aura points for falling out of love with a great guy like Gwindor & falling in love with Turin the walking L.
Celegorm - Stupid as hell for trying to use a powerful half-Angel as a political weapon against her father. Looses more Aura points for getting abandoned by his dog & dying at the hands of said half-Angel's 30 y/o mortal son while he's over 1000 y/o. Gains some Aura points for being able to talk to animals, his hair, & his hot bastard energy.
Curufin - Feanor with 99% less Aura. His only achievement is having Celebrimbor yet he still couldn't even succeed at being Feanor 2.0 and having 7 kids to continue the family line. Had the chance to kill Eol but didn't which led to his favorite cousin dying (that's a huge L).
Finarfin - Takes after his mother in the sense he's vanilla af. The tiny percent of Aura he has is from his Noldo side obviously and he used that to pull a baddie like Earwen. All his kids get their Aura from their mother's side.
Orodreth - I like the guy, but he's definitely a dumbass with no Aura. He inherited a kingdom but isn't particularly good at anything. His only accomplishment is possibly fathering Gil-Galad.
Maeglin - Orodreth might have no Aura but this guy has negative Aura. His childhood sucked but he's such a walking L that's he's somehow more of a loser than both Celegorm & Eol combined.
Of Curufin, Celebrimbor and the throne of Nargothrond.
Curufin : In an hour you will be king.
Celebrimbor : And Finrod never wanted this.
Curufin : That's not true.
Celebrimbor : He had so many years to name me his heir and he never did.
Curufin : He changed his mind.
Celebrimbor : He could have but he never did, because he dind’t like me.
Curufin : Were his words before he left, he whispered to me that you should take his place on the throne.
Celebrimbor : Do not toy with me, I know what you did.
Curufin : You have no idea the sacrifice that we made to put you on that throne.
Celebrimbor : Sacrifices? Are you talking about sending your husband, my father, to his death?
The generational interplay with the Noldor is so interesting.
Celebrimbor and Idril were so young during the flight. Did they hear Feanors speech? Did they understand the magnitude of the decision to leave? Did they witness the Kinslaying? They likely didn’t have any agency in those decision and you can see the impact of that in their future actions.
Celebrimbor breaks with his father (and likely all the Feanorians). He didn’t take the oath and isn’t driven by the slimarils, allowing him to escape the fate of his family. This break with his family is pretty shocking since their loyalty to each other is like, a defining trait of the house, but it shows some pretty good judgement (in short supply for the first age elves).
And Idril…. She just fucking. Left. Middle-earth before the exiles were actually allowed back! All of the ships that had attempted to reach valinor were never seen again except for Voronwe who was saved by Ulmo. That’s an objectively BONKERS things to do. And not only that. She took her mortal husband with her!! And then it workkkkkked
They both strive to take agency over their decisions even when it goes against their family or like… the will of the valar.
I love them so much.
💖/🕊 Celebrimbor?
Unusual Headcanons Ask Game!
💖 - Romantic relationships or ships. (This could be as simple as sharing a rareship you enjoy, or an unusual interpretation of a popular/canon ship!)
Narvi - I headcanon that Narvi was actually the first partnership-relationship Tyelpe entered into, not that he wasn't aware that in Valinor and during the First Age he did attract the attention of people. He was just a workaholic and preferred to research, nerd and make things than turn his eyes and look for a potential romantic partner.
Tyelpe was also averse from romantic relationships for such a long time because he saw Curufin and Helwe's relationship deteriorate as he was growing up. Also, Tyelpe didn't quite like the idea of marrying someone, because he knows the burden of a marriage to Eldar, having seen his parents be trapped into an unhappy and loveless union and unable to free themselves from it.
Finrod - in my non-CuruFinrod verses, I also think of Tyelpe having a tremendous one-sided love for Finrod. This was a youthful thing though, developed during their stay at Nargothrond, simply because it's impossible not to like Finrod -- gold, beautiful, and kind. Tyelpe thinks he is being discreet with his very obvious preference for blondes (which will be detrimental for him later on), and Finrod does not act on it.
Annatar - oh, he loved that strange elf. He loved how their minds and spirits seemed to in sync, but you had to hand it to Tyelpe because even if he was so in love, he was still able to clearly perceive red flags in the relationship and was even strong enough to initiate the break-up, even if it cost him his life.
But out of all of these three, Tyelpe considers Annatar the would-have-been love of his life.
🕊️ - Platonic relationships (friends, enemies, etc).
He was particularly friendly and close to Idril and Orodreth growing up. They had some sort of 'gang wars' as children; Idril and her girl friends against him, Orodreth and their friends where they tried to ambush each group with paint balls at every weekend after school and lessons. They were oblivious to the building quarrels and tensions of the family when they were children and genuinely enjoyed each other's company. Idril turned to them to 'fathom how boys acted like so,' and in turn Idril was their source of knowledge on girls.
Tyelpe mourned the deterioration of their friendships when the family got estranged from each other. Tyelpe loved and craved close friendships as he was an only child.
