Dwarf Princess
Haldir x Dwarf!Reader
Warning: prejudice from elves against dwarves, angst, happy ending
a/n: For the sake of this story many things were changed in the original, also this has been in my drafts for about a year lol.
Deep within the forests where the birds sang surrounding a beautiful dwarf whom sat against a tree staring at her dear uncle chatting amongst the humans and the hobbits and his new frenemy, Legolas, the prince of Mirkwood.
She would not lie that he was pleasant site, he stood tall with long beautiful hair that fell down his back and broad shoulders that carried a head with a beautiful face adorned to it.
" Y/n" called Uncle Gimli. She got up from her seat and walked towards him," Yes uncle ? " she asked.
" What's got ya sitting by all your lonesome."
" Just thinking."
Legolas smiled at her and placed his hand upon her head, ruffling her hair as she pouted.
" Do not fret, we will soon pass over and then you can sleep peacefully on a bed." She smiled at him at the last word, bed. Oh how she longed to lay on a soft and fluffy bed, Do not get her wrong, she loved the great outdoors but she missed the comfort of her very own bed and the fluffy blankets that kept her toes warm and the morning cup of tea her mother would make her.
" I just hope we get there soon, even if it is just for a night."
" Well Lass, one more night in the woods will not kill ya." replied Gimli as he chucked. She sat down near the fire, feeling the bitter cold nip at her fingertips.
" At this point I feel like the cold will kill me before the orcs do." She chuckled as she looked up to see Legolas hand her some Lembas bread.
" Eat little one we have a journey ahead of us tomorrow."
" I AM A GROWN ADULT !" she huffed before golfing down the bread and beginning to set her cot near the fire. Legolas chuckled, he had grown quite close to y/n, he saw her as a little sister, after all it was her first journey and he felt a need to always protect her, that and her fascination of elves as he recalled their first encounter.
.
.
. flashback.....
" Uncle Gimli, look it is an elf."
" aye aye lass, be careful, they lack coordination and are coy."
Legolas chuckled to himself as he stood tall in front of the dwarf.
" funny for someone who can not even see over the table."
" Why you !!" That began the bickering friendship between the two while y/n was full of questions.
" how tall are you ?! What is your diet ?! Are all elves blonde ?! Where do you reside?!"
Legolas had never been asked so many questions in his life as of right at that moment.
.
.
.
end of flashback....
Gimli looked at his niece, she was in deep sleep.
" She is quite tall for a dwarf." Said Legolas.
" Aye..I believe her father was a human, although my sister never shared anything of it."
He nodded understanding that the topic was sensitive.
" Ill take first watch." said Legolas before Gimli turned around and said," What do yah think I am not capable of-"
" My friends there is no need to argue.." Aragorn spoke trying to defuse the situation.
.
.
.
The next morning was filled with dread, everyone was tired and the cold and hard ground did not aid their back pain. They simply longed for a warm home filled with delicious foods of all kind.
Aragron had pushed them to continue walking for hours without breaks or even lunch. Their stomachs were grumbling and the mud was piling on their feet making them feel as if the world was weighing them down.
" This is where Lothlorien should be." said Legolas as they continued trekking into the woods. It was foggy and ominous, nothing like the rumors that have spoken about the beauty of it. Legolas himself shared some stories he often heard as a small child about it.
"Daro !" spoke a voice commanding from the trees above. They all stopped as Legolas whispered to them to standstill and to not move a single muscle.
"who are they ?" whispered Frodo. " They are elves." replied Sam. Despite the fear in the other hobbits and even Uncle Gimli, Y/n could not help but feel excitement bubble up in her stomach, although she was also weary, perhaps they may not take a liking that they are stepping within their domain.
An elf dropped down in front of Legolas smiling, "Welcome!" They all looked around, they were surrounded by the elves pointing their arrows in case one wrong move was taken. " How many are there of you ?" asked an elf, Y/n's eyes widened as she stared at the elf before her, sure Legolas was beautiful but he, he was simply gorgeous, he stood tall and proud. Legolas replied with," myself, four hobbits, two men, and two dwarves."
" two Dwarves ?!" yelled the dwarf. " Is the woman a dwarf ?!" he questioned taking in her appearance, she was a beauty despite the mud on her clothes and the matted braids on her head, but she still radiated despite that.
" I can not let the dwarves pass." he declared, Frodo had done his best to try to reason with him, but another elf whispered in his ear that the Lady was expecting them. The elf presented himself as Haldir, he continued to explain that he would have to blindfold them in order to be taken to the Lady, whom was expecting them and turned to look at the dwarves, " keep a close eye on them."
Despite the beauty of Haldir, Y/n was hurt at his words, how could he say such cruel things when she had not done anything to hurt his trust. She pouted, but soon widened her eyes as she saw her uncle beginning to unsheath his axe and yell at the elves.
" We are not spies !" yelled Uncle Gimli, Y/n grabbed his wrist as she noticed the elves beginning to take aim.
" Uncle Gimli, we are on their land, we must abide by their rules and customs out of respect, the same way they would in our home." Haldir glanced at y/n she seemed uncomfortable with the accusation as she stared down at her feet rubbing her arm and tried to keep herself from looking at him.
he cleared his throat and put his axe away," very well."
As they began to be blindfolded, y/n could not help but hold her breath. She felt the cool fingers of Haldir push her hair behind her ears, his breath fanning her face as his arms came around to tie the cloth around her head and cover her pretty eyes. He questioned her lineage considering she was almost the size of an average human woman, but still quite a short stature. He grabbed her hand gently and began to lead her, unbeknownst to her, the rest of the company followed by grabbing onto a rope.
After some time, y/n felt the blindfold being removed, the sight before her left her speechless. The trees were tall and beautiful, the sun casting a beautiful glow within the forest, the air felt clear and pure, the aura of Lothlorien was unmatched. It was truly a sight.
" Lady Galadriel knows of your presence, you may wander freely." said Haldir.
As y/n began to walk away Haldir grabber her wrist," my apologies, my lady, can I perhaps show you something ?" He found himself bewildered that he even let his curiosity get the best of him, he wanted to find out more about her, he was also blinded by her beauty.
She nodded and followed closely behind, what choice did she have, he was holding her wrist afterall. From a distance, Legolas held Gimli back and smiled as the two ventured off somewhere else.
" Will you let me go you imprudent fool, that idiot is running off with me nice !" yelled Gimli
" now now, Sir Gimli, let your niece live her youth, she is a young woman afterall, she can make her own decisions." Said Aragorn.
.
.
y/n and Haldir reached a large tree. He let go of her hand and climbed up then looked back down to offer his hand towards her. She smiled and took it as he helped her up the tree.
" Is there something you wanted to show me ?" asked y/n.
" Look ahead."
There she gasped as she the vast land of Lorien, the beautiful light casting on the land, the calm waters and the beauty of nature.
" It is so beautiful." she said as she smiled and felt the wind tickle her cheeks. He stared at her mesmerized by the light in her y/e/c eyes," yes, it is."
She felt herself blush as she turned around to make eye contact with him. " Sir, Haldir, um...."
" just Haldir is fine."
" Haldir, may I ask, why did you want to show me this ?"
".. I...I don't know, I felt compelled to, as if we were destined to see this together." said Haldir.
Her eyes widened as she stared into the blue eyes of Haldir both leaning in, " Lass get down here this instant !" she felt herself almost slip if it weren't for Haldir wrapping his arm against her waist. He then held her and jumped down from the tree.
He landed in front of Gimli and Legolas," Watch yer step !" yelled Gimli as he tumbled back onto his bum.
" y/n/n, you just met this elf and you're already run off and been seduced ?! " yelled Gimli, causing y/n cheeks to turn a crimson red and stomp her feet," Uncle Gimli, I am not a child anymore ! And I am not being seduced ! Hmph." She walked away as Gimli tried to go after her but Legolas held him back sighing as he whispered to Haldir to leave at once before Gimli turned his attention to him.
It did not take long for them to meet again as a small feast was being held. They offered her a change of clothing, a beautiful lavender dress which she had not worn one since she left. She felt comfortable being freshly bathed and groomed. She had long waited to wash her hair and many of the Elven ladies helped comb and braid her hair which had grown throughout the journey. She sat next to her uncle at the table excited to eat, the seat in front of her was taken by no other than Haldir.
" You look beautiful " complimented Haldir, Y/n looked down at her lap and felt her cheeks flush as she thanked him for the compliment.
"tch." Gimli was angry at the interaction his young niece was smitten someone, an elf at that.
but that all changed when he laid his eyes on Lady Galadriel, she truly was a beauty and the air around her seemed to glow as she welcome them. The company could not help but laugh at seeing his cheeks turn red when she spoke to him.
" What was that about being seduced uncle ?" chuckled y/n. Haldir smiled to himself as he stared at her smile.
The feast went on smoothly, many retreating to their sleeping arrangements. Y/n spoke to Lady Galadriel briefly and she spoke about loving someone, y/n was confused as to why she would talk. about that but Lady Galadriel smiled," my dear child, afterall you are still young and have such a long life to live, do not fret and continue forward." She thanked her for such encouraging words as she walked away to go to sleep.
Somehow Lady Galadriel had a worried gut feeling.
The next morning the company was to leave, Haldir felt saddened that he did not get so speak to y/n, but was content when he saw her in his dreams that night. He felt a connection and could tell they were destined."
" Haldir, perhaps we may see each other again." smiled y/n
He smiled as his bent forward to place a kiss upon her hand and looked into her eyes and spoke once more," I have a feeling we will my Lady. " He said and smiled sweetly.
Despite the two barely meeting, they had a feeling that they had lived before, perhaps in their previous life they were lovers.
And yes, they met again but in unforeseen circumstances, as they fought against the orcs in Helms-Deep, protecting the people of Rohan, the elves of Lothlorien came to aid the company and the army of Rohan.
When y/n laid eyes on Haldir, she could not help but smile at his presence. They all fought bravely, to the end, but once the battle ceased, y/n tried to look for Haldir. She was held back by Legolas
" Legolas, let me go, I need to find Haldir." She felt a gut wrenching feeling, " Please y/n.." Said Legolas. She finally broke free and saw the Many dead men and elves. but her eyes traveled to where Haldir laid. HE was still blinking looking up into the sky. She quickly fell to her knees and called out
" Haldir !" she felt the tear rushing down her cheeks as she stroked his cheek trying to clear him of the blood that stained his pale skin.
He reached a shaky hand and placed it against her cheek, he began to speak," I do not know why the stars led me to you, but I...I-I am glad to have met y-"
" please save your energy, you're going to be okay !!" yelled y/n as she gripped his hand tightly. She kept repeating to herself 'you're going to be okay ' , but it was far too late as he let out his last breathe. She placed her forehead against his and closed her eyes as she cried out silently to herself. The company whom had been separated from Master Frodo and Samwise stood looking at the two, Aragorn himself could not contain his sadness as they all mourned the death of many, especially the death of an ally.
Gimli felt pain for his niece, but did not know what to do other than place his hand at her back. She did not want to let go of Haldir but Gimli told her they must. She placed a kiss on his forehead and stood up fists at her sides. She decided in that moment she would avenge his death.
And she did, together with lady Eowyn she found the strength within her and the company to strike down Sauron and many Orcs. She fought bravely.
Upon returning to Rivendell where many elves had now taken their departure to Valinor. It was now time for her departure as well along Bilbo, Frodo and Gandalf. Her uncle and Legolas were going to stay behind but as she looked into her Uncle's eyes she noticed tears within them. " Do not cry Uncle Gimli, we will be reunited soon, please take good care of him Legolas."
She embraced the both of them as she cried and soon they set sail.
Just as Haldir predicted, they soon met once again....

“You are alive!” — “ And you are still here,” he replied for he did not see how she – who had barley ever left Mirkwood – could survive without a guard by her side and thought she had retrieved like the elves he had known before her. But both sides were glad to see each other breathing, with nothing more than mere scratches and the blood of Orcs on their hands, they had grown rather fond of each other although neither of them were ready to admit that they had become friends.

Wild and Divine: Not What They Seem (Pt 2)
Dire wolves. They weren't the beasts Guinevere had been looking for, but they were what she had found.
The crunch of bone was accompanied by a pained whimper as Guinevere slammed her warhammer into another wolf's skull, but hardly had the beast's body crumpled beside the corpses of four of its fallen brothers before more of its pack lunged for the dwarf. Sidestepping with mere seconds to spare as blurs of fur and teeth converged on the spot she had been only moments before, she allotted herself only an instant to swiftly survey her surroundings. While she spied at least half a dozen remaining dire wolves closing in on her from multiple angles, there appeared to be no signs of the naughty cat that had lured her a bit too close to the pack's den. Either he had escaped while the wolves were preoccupied with her or had already been gobbled up by the beasts as an appetizer.
"I swear, if I have to dig through dire wolf entrails to find that stupid earring-"
By the time her mind registered the low growl echoing behind her, it was already too late as a powerful jaw clamped down on the cleric's shoulder, the sheer force of the bite sure to leave a nasty bruise even if the creature's teeth couldn't quite pierce her plate armor. Finding purchase on the groove where her breastplate tucked beneath her pauldron, the wolf hoisted the dwarf off of the ground with all of its might, its grip holding fast even as she kicked and flailed in hopes of wrenching herself free. Amid her squirming and beating her fist against the beast's head, Guin caught a glimpse of the two other wolves that had somehow managed to slink up behind her, each flanking the first on either side, and as one of them tried to snap at her legs, it was rewarded with a blow to the jaw for its efforts.
The next thing she knew, the entire world had transformed into a blur as the wolf began violently shaking the dwarf to and fro, her head aching as her brain rattled painfully about in her skull. Nearly biting her tongue more than once as she struggled to blurt the necessary incantation, Guinevere slammed her palm against the beast's temple as soon as she glimpsed the spell's telltale necrotic green glow emanating from her hand. The pressure bearing down on her shoulder vanished in an instant, the wolf's pained cry piercing her ears, and the little cleric went soaring through the air before crashing down onto her stomach. However, she couldn't even scramble up onto her knees before two massive paws slammed down on her shoulder blades, driving her face first back into the ground. Her arms instinctively flew to cover her head and neck as more teeth and claws snapped and swiped at her, the pack closing in on her from all sides. Her lungs crushed beneath the weight of the wolf on top of her, Guin gagged on every earth-infused, shallow breath, hacking as dirt coated her throat and nose, and though she tried to cry out whatever spells she could think of, the words dissolved into an indecipherable wheeze before they could even escape her throat.
"Crap, this is bad. If I could just get my hands on the knife in my belt, maybe I could get this massive mongrel off of me. Problem is, I'd be giving the others an opening by moving my arm, and if one of them gets their jaws on my throat, I'm really screwed. I don't really have any better options though…Helm, please let this work!"
Her hand shooting down to her hip, Guinevere curled her fingers tightly around the hilt of her small blade and swiftly yanked it free of its sheath. Aiming as best she could with her face smushed in the dirt, she thrusted hard behind her and was rewarded with warm blood dripping down her fingers as the knife plunged into one of the wolf's front legs. The moment she sensed the beast's weight shift unsteadily on top of her, she rolled onto her back and threw her free hand into the air, wisps of radiance already coalescing in her palm as a string of syllables spilled from her lips. She squeezed her eyes shut just in time to avoid being blinded by the brilliant flash of divine energy from her fingertips, and as several of the wolves yelped in pain and wiped futilely at their stinging eyes with their massive paws, she launched herself at the nearest one, angling her body so that her shoulder rammed into its leg as she barreled past.
Even the adrenaline saturating her bloodstream couldn't completely defang the sharp stabs of agony emanating from her still tender side, but the dwarf nonetheless pushed herself to sprint while blinking rapidly to clear away the involuntary tears that welled up with every painful step. Behind her, she could already hear the hurried footfalls of the pack gaining ground, but she fixed her gaze firmly on her best hope: her great grandmother's warhammer, lying idly on the ground where it had landed after slipping from her fingers when she was tossed through the air. Not until her outstretched hand firmly grasped hold of the hammer's shaft did she chance a glance over her shoulder only to witness a sight that made her blood run cold. One of the wolves closest to her had sprang into the air, its hungry maw already agape in anticipation of the nearing kill as it sailed towards her with only mere feet separating them. By the time she managed to raise her weapon, it would already be on top of her, ready to tear at whatever flesh it could reach while its brethren swarmed her once more. As she stared into the mouth of glinting, knife-like teeth, her heart shuddered—shuddered as it had that day that felt like yesterday and yet also so long ago when she had faced off with the Dragonborn mercenaries attacking her home.
"Helm, you delivered me then. Please deliver me now. Don't let this be the end of my story. Don't let me have been led out here to die!"
When the ground shook beneath her, Guinevere automatically assumed it was her legs finally on the verge of giving out, having been pushed to their limit, until a guttural roar overpowered the drumming of her own heartbeat in her own ears. Out from the nearby trees hurdled a massive, dark blur, and with the swipe of a giant paw, the wolf before her was sent hurtling in another direction before hitting the ground with a sickening crack. The other members of a pack all skidded to a halt, eyes darting between the little dwarf and the wall of fur and muscle that now loomed between them and her. The cave bear held the wolves' gazes, its lips curled back in a snarl that revealed its own sharp teeth while it pawed at the ground, its deadly claws carving deep grooves into the dirt. As one of the bolder beasts tried to slink off to one side, clearly attempting to sneak around it, the bear lunged, snapping its jaws and swiping at the mongrel until it swiftly scampered back to safety amongst its brethren with its tail tucked between its legs.
After several tense moments, the wolves furthest from the bear finally started to creep back, refusing to take their eyes off of the hulking ursine until they were close enough to the mouth of their den to dart safely inside. One by one, each member of the pack followed until the only evidence of their presence at all was a brief glimpse of their glittering eyes watching from the darkness of their cave.
Guinevere's thoughts screamed for her not to move a muscle, but her body seemingly had other plans as her knees buckled abruptly beneath her, sending her falling onto her rump with a series of clanks and a thump. The dwarf's breath caught in her throat as the bear's massive head swiveled in her direction, locking her in its golden gaze, but the beast made no effort to approach her, opting instead to just stare at her with those eyes that felt…strangely familiar. In fact, now that she could get a better glimpse of the creature's face, her brow furrowed in perplexity as she catalogued the series of familiar details: golden eyes, dark fur with a slight greenish tinge to it, and a series of markings along the beast's forehead that closely resembled a set of antlers. The thought sounded absurd even as it crossed her mind, her mental faculties struggling to make sense of it all, and yet she could think of no other explanation without disregarding the evidence before her.
"What are you?"
The question hung heavy in the air between them, Guin's gaze boring into the beast as she waited for some kind of answer. Though she couldn't tell exactly what was taking place behind those abnormally intelligent eyes, she could only assume that whatever or whoever this was before her was currently weighing his options very carefully. After what felt like several minutes but was probably in fact only a few seconds in real time, the bear silently reared onto its back legs while the cleric's stomach lurched with dread. However, as she watched, a pale light began to emanate from the creature until it had swallowed his whole body, bathing the immediate surroundings in a soft radiance. Before her eyes, the glowing form began to warp and change, shrinking and slimming in some areas while sharpening in others, until a humanoid figure gradually began to take shape. Though her heart still pattered uneasily within the cleric's chest, the nervousness could not quite overpower her sense of awe at the sight unfolding before her, a kind of magic she had never once touched upon herself. Once the last few curves and lines settled into place, the light dispersed with a flash, and as her eyes readjusted to the dim of twilight, Guinevere found herself gazing up at a man unlike any she had ever seen. Dark olive skin with splashes of freckles hugged a lithe yet toned figure, the earthy tones of the stranger's complexion contrasting rather nicely with the slightly brighter reds and softer creams of his attire. A thick, lustrous braid of dark green locks dangled down his back all the way to his hips while some shorter, unruly strands curled and coiffed as they pleased around his face and atop his crown. Eyes of gleaming irises and dark sclerae, like rings of refined gold set against beds of obsidian, peered over an elegant hooked nose and set of supple lips currently pressed into a firm line, and from one of his large, pointed ears dangled a golden hoop that the dwarf had definitely seen before. The most striking thing about the elf's surreal appearance, however, had to be the large set of magnificent antlers that protruded from his head, adding another several inches to his already lofty height.
"He's…beautiful."
For an instant, Guinevere was spellbound—but only for an instant before a thought occurred to her, a thought that shattered the wonder of the moment. As reverence soured into bitterness, her free hand at her side started to curl into a fist only for her fingers to close around something brittle and knobby that crackled a bit in her grip, and not even sparing it a second thought, she hurled the object with a frustrated screech at the stranger.
Dodging the projectile with little trouble, the elf shot the small cleric a baffled and perhaps slightly amused look, "Did you just throw a pinecone at me?"
"You! Jerk!" Guin continued to shriek, snatching up a few more pinecones and chucking them as well. "You could've changed back like that at any time, but instead you let me chase you all around the woods for the past several hours?!"
"You're the one who decided to be stubborn and come after me instead of taking the hint that I wanted to be left alone." The elf retorted, dodging a few of the cones and batting the others aside.
"So then you decided to lure me in front of a dire wolf den to finally get me off of your trail?!"
The man flinched at the accusation, his pointed ears drooping a bit as he glanced away from her. "I figured the pack would still be fast asleep; that obnoxiously loud armor of yours must've woken them. I didn't plan on you actually getting attacked…"
"Ah, of course it's my fault that your attempt at scaring me off backfired and almost got me killed. My mistake." Guin snapped before she set about rummaging around inside her satchel for her other healing potion, having run out of pinecones to angrily toss at the man. Sensing the druid's suspicious gaze shift back to her, she sighed and rolled her eyes. "You can relax; I'm just looking for my other healing potion. My hip is killing me, no thanks to you. You could've saved us both a lot of trouble by just talking to me, you know."
The elf's eyes narrowed slightly, his arms folding over his chest as he shifted his weight somewhat sassily to one side. "You really expect me to believe it would've been that easy? That you wouldn't have just attacked the 'fearsome demon' on sight and asked questions later?"
"You're not a demon though, otherwise the detection spell I was using would've exposed you hours ago." the cleric refuted, her expression brightening slightly as she finally pulled the desired vial of red liquid from her bag and brought it to her lips. "I was prepared to fight if I had to, but that doesn't mean I wanted to. I'd much rather solve all this without bloodshed if I can."
"Well that might be how you feel, but I'm inclined to think the villagers don't share your sentiment." the elf retorted, his hand instinctively reaching to massage along one of his ears. "Let me guess, you were fed something along the lines of me attacking those hunters first, right?"
Her eyes following his movements, Guinevere finally noticed with a churning in her gut the dried blood crusted around a tear in the stranger's earlobe, the injury appearing to be in the early stages of healing. "Yes…That wasn't the case though, was it?"
"If I had started it, they would've disappeared without a trace." the stranger scoffed, and though the gesture was subtle, Guin noticed that his arms seemed to protectively tighten their hold around him. "I was minding my own business foraging for supplies when we crossed paths. They saw something they didn't understand, and like many before them, they decided in all their wisdom that the best solution was to kill it. I fought back but only until I could figure out a way to give them the slip, not that that means a damn thing to anyone. Now, they've sent you to finish me off. Well, you've found me, so what's next?"
Tense silence seized the air once more as Guinevere sat peering down at the now empty vial in her hand, mulling over the torrent of new information flooding her brain. His initial wariness ebbing slightly, the druid watched the dwarf curiously, his head tilting slightly in order to get a better view of her face only for his heart to abruptly leap into his throat when her eyes suddenly found his.
"To start, you can let me take a look at that ear. My magic's almost completely tapped out, but I might have just enough left in me to heal that tear up so it doesn't become infected."
The elf's brow wrinkled skeptically. "And why would you do that?"
"Consider it a peace offering. Don't get me wrong, I'm still pissed at you for stringing me along for the past several hours. However, given what you've shared, I can understand why you did what you did." the cleric answered while extending her hand towards him. "I meant it when I said I'd rather resolve all of this peacefully if possible, and if you'll allow me, I'll prove it."
At first, the druid just squinted at her open palm as if it was a viper poised to strike, but eventually, he crept closer and knelt down just barely within Guinevere's reach, wincing ever so subtly as her fingers brushed along his wound. Watching her closely out of the corner of his eye, his gaze flitted from her free hand clutching her holy symbol to her slightly weary face as the words of the healing incantation flew from her tongue. Gradually, a pleasant, buzzing warmth permeated his ear, swallowing the stinging ache that had lingered there, and once the gentle heat dissipated, he reached up to trace along the now smooth skin of his earlobe, detecting not even a hint of a scar. Fishing his other earring out of his pocket, he slipped the golden hoop back into place before turning to face the little cleric, some of the ice having melted from his gaze.
"So if you're not going to kill me, what is your plan? Those villagers won't be too happy if you come back empty-handed."
"Well, I'm not too happy about being lied to, so the feeling's mutual." Sighing, Guin continued to rub her holy symbol between her fingers, furiously racking her brain for even the smallest something that she could work with. "If I do nothing, they'll just send someone else after you."
"They can try, but it won't really do them any good. I was just passing through this area, and after my less than warm welcome, my goal was to make it as far away from this place as possible by the end of today. Of course, that was before a certain spunky dwarf got thrown into the mix and unknowingly botched my whole plan."
Guinevere wasn't sure what she found more irritating: the hint of an impish sparkle in the man's eyes or the way that very glint made her heart flutter in her chest. After a few more moments of contemplation, she tightened her grip on her amulet and forced herself to her feet, wincing as her leg and hip still throbbed with dull pain; apparently, the potion had only partially mended whatever she had done to herself by tumbling out of that tree. "The day isn't over. If we leave now, you should still be able to cover some ground and I should be able to make it back to the village before sunset."
The elf blinked at her, rising to his feet as well. "You're going back there? Why? You've no quarry to bring them, so what is returning going to do except make more problems for you? Just continue on your way and put this behind you."
"…I can't," Guin replied while slinging her warhammer over her shoulder, grunting slightly beneath the weapon's weight that seemed a bit more cumbersome than she previously recalled. "You got hurt because of these people's ignorance, and unless something is done about it, you won't be the last."
"And if they don't want to change?" the druid sighed with a woeful shake of his head, "There will always be ignorant people in the world. Some of them really are just naïve, but others choose to be that way of their own free will."
"Their choice or not, it doesn't make it alright!" Guinevere snapped, surprising them both. Steadying herself with a deep breath, she added a bit more calmly, "I'm aware that there's no guarantee of my efforts making a difference, but if there is even the smallest chance that I could change just one person's mind, I can't justify walking away without trying."
She could feel the elf's eyes upon her as she began to slowly trudge back in the direction from which she had come, her lips tightly pursed in an effort to suppress the occasional hiss of discomfort as she shuffled along. However, she had hardly made it more than a few yards when light footfalls greeted her ears just moments before the stranger planted himself directly into her path, forcing her to halt.
"That injury is just going to get worse the more you push yourself; I would've thought a cleric to understand that." he chided her gently as he knelt down before offering his hand just as she had done. "While I would argue that you bear most of the responsibility for your current condition, I also can't deny the role I played in it. Consider this my peace offering."
Guinevere's gaze shifted from the elf's outstretched hand to his face, scanning his features for any small tell she could grasp onto to help her decipher what exactly was going on behind those eyes of molten gold. "What happened to wanting to get away from this place as soon as possible?"
"Well, it won't do me much good if people continue to just assume that I'm a dangerous demon wherever I go. Perhaps traveling with a holy woman will dissuade some of them from jumping to conclusions." he crooned, holding her gaze without a hint of hesitancy. "Not to mention, some of those villagers aren't going to like the truth you're preaching, and you're in no condition to fight on your own if they decide to get hostile. If you're going back there to stand up for myself and others like me, the least I can do is provide you with some backup."
"So that's your angle…" Guin's brow wrinkled in contemplation for a few moments, her gaze growing distant as her thoughts momentarily seized her full focus before snapping back to full clarity again. "I understand that you can use magic and that you saved my life. However, that is where my knowledge of you ends. If I'm going to start traveling with you, I'm going to need more than that."
The corners of the elf's eyes crinkled slightly as his smile grew, and Guin prayed silently that the warmth blooming in her chest was not steadily creeping its way into her face.
"Fair enough. I'm Mar. I'm a druid, and I'm currently…searching for answers about something. Honestly, I'm not quite sure what; that's one of the things I'm hoping to find out, I guess. And how about you, little disciple? You're a holy woman, so perhaps you're on some kind of divinely ordained expedition?"
"It's more of a pilgrimage…but without a particular destination." the dwarf frowned, and for the briefest moment, Mar noticed something grim flicker across her features before swiftly vanishing again. "I'm Guinevere, a servant of-"
"Helm. I heard your prayer, not that I was trying to eavesdrop. Actually, that reminds me: there is one other pressing question I need you to answer before this goes any further."
"And what is that?"
Guin realized too late the grievous error she had made as an impish gleam lit up Mar's face.
"So, your divine magic is able to determine whether a creature is a demon or not, but it is incapable of identifying a target's gender? Or is a certain little cleric secretly a bit naughty and enjoys trying to sneak a peek? If it's the later, I'm afraid I'll have to withdraw my offer; sexual harassment isn't something I can condone."
Pure, burning mortification set every inch of Guinevere's face ablaze with the vibrant scarlet heat of a dozen suns, her eyes widening like two silver shields while her lips and tongue tripped and tumbled over each other. "I-I-I-I THOUGHT YOU WERE A CAT!"
"I'm hearing an excuse; I think somebody has a guilty conscience." the elf jeered, his amusement undeniable. "Then again, perhaps I should travel with you to ensure you do not 'unknowingly' objectify any more druids in their beastly forms…"
Nurtured by the heat flowing in her veins, another angry blaze flared in Guinevere's chest, rising up her throat to escape her lips in the form of an angry screech as she sharply smacked Mar's hand aside. "Forget it! I don't need your help! Leave me alone!"
Her aches and pains momentarily overshadowed by her stoked temper, the cleric tried to push past the cackling druid and hobble away, but amid his gleeful snickering, he managed to grasp her by the shoulder before she could slip beyond arm's reach. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry. It is only a joke, I promise. You should be more careful in the future though; you might actually offend the wrong person if you do that again, even if your intentions are innocent enough. Now, I really have to insist we get you off of that leg. There will be no more jokes made at your expense, I promise."
Though she shot him a glare over her shoulder, Guinevere did not try to pull away from Mar's grasp. At this, the druid knelt down low to the ground whilst sliding his hand off of her shoulder, upturning his palm and offering it to her once more. Begrudgingly, Guinevere placed her hand in his and followed his lead as he guided her up his back and onto his shoulders, his stomach lurching a bit as she felt his other hand lightly press against her side to help support her weight as she climbed. Once her legs were draped over his shoulders, she reached for his antlers to help steady herself, curling her fingers around the smooth structures only to immediately release them again at the abrupt hitching of Mar's breath accompanied by a powerful shudder reverberating throughout his body.
"Sorry!" she blurted before tentatively draping her arms around his neck instead. "Is this better?"
As the tension in his shoulders gradually released and his breathing evened once more, Mar nodded. Rising to his feet, his smile returned and the corners of his eye crinkled slightly when he felt the dwarf's arms and legs instinctively clench to keep her from sliding, although he could tell she was intentionally using only part of her strength to keep from hurting him. He could already taste a playful quip on the tip of his tongue, but he had promised her she would not be subject to any further teasing for the moment. He was not about to break his word, tempting as it seemed.
"I'm sorry again that you got hurt trying to help me. However, in my defense, I didn't think you'd really climb that tree to try and get me down, Guinedeer."
"It's Guinevere."
"I'm aware."
Biting back the heavy sigh that she knew would only further encourage her new comrade's antics, Guinevere rested her temple against the back of his head as he began to walk, his gait surprisingly smooth despite her added weight. Mulling over everything that had happened in the last several hours, all of it strange to say the least, she directed her gaze to the heavens above as she crafted another silent prayer.
"Helm, please continue to watch over me—over us—because I have no idea what the hells I've just gotten myself into."

thinking about an elrond x durin reveal situation where when legolas comes home having shotgun married gimli during the war, thranduil is like. ‘oh shit. legolas is a prince. he got married. i have to throw them a wedding even though i would rather fall on my sword than throw a dwarf a party. but Policy Dictates It.’ so he swallows his pride and throws the party and everyone comes to the greenwood for it, including elrond, who when he sees legolas is like ‘dwarves, amiright?’ and legolas is like. HUH. and elrond with this far away look is just like ‘ahhhh durin… what a lover he was…’ legolas walks away from him with a horrified and bewildered expression and is like ‘gimli. gimli. i think elrond and durin…. i can’t even say it.’
gimli of course is very tipsy, because it’s his wedding and his family would hardly pass up the chance to drink thranduil’s cellars dry, and therefore has no decorum and sees no fault in shouting at elrond across the party “DID YA FUCK A DWARVEN KING YA POINTY EARED SCOUNDREL!” and elrond’s just like ‘actually he was a prince at the time’ *sips wine*
the whole situation is ten thousand times more confusing for legolas than finding out that bilbo and thorin got married. tauriel is laughing her fucking ass off at him.
#this is of course an everyone lives au for peak chaos#i just love legolas being like ‘no elf has ever loved a dwarf this is such a scandal’ and BAM. elrond.#elrondurin#is that the ship name???#elrond x durin#gigolas#trop#lotr#nellie.txt

Braiding affairs (Elf!Reader x Kili)

Summary: You are both not familiar with each customs. So it leaves confusion and panic with both Kili and you when he braids his hair with yours. For a dwarf it means a marking, for an elf it is preserved for only loved ones.
It was quite the sight. Dwarves stepping on Elvish ground. If it wasn’t for Gandalf, they might have never set foot for a thousand years more. Now there were not one, but twelve dwarves at Rivendell. Roaming and stomping their lump feet around. It needn’t be obvious to anyone that both parties disliked this situation.
The Elves wanted them gone as soon as possible and the dwarves wanted away before they took another breath. Shuffling after each other like clumsy fools, nudging each other with each step to move on. Elves pulling up their noses in their presence. A common agreement that no one liked the other party. Too deep of a wedge between the two folks.
“To believe we must even host a diner for them.” – an Elf spoke, glaring at the dwarf folk heading for the table. Another elf joined his side, leaning in. – “I’d say we only give them vegetables, serves them right.” – chuckling afterwards at his own playfulness. The other elf began to snicker as well. – “Nónena lle nísë?” – you said making the two Elf men turn their heads abruptly. – “Only you would defend the weaker foe.” – one of them stated with a pulled up nose.
You glared softly back at him. – “Do you think they would be kind to you?” – the other one asked. – “If one does not show kindness, it cannot expect kindness in return.” – you replied in a soft tone. Moving between them with a bowl. Both of the scoffed, making you turn back to them. – “If not for them, then for Mithrandir.” – gesturing with your chin in the direction of the grey wizard. Standing by Lord Elrond’s side.
Both of them swallowed. Gasping when they saw Mithrandir’s gaze head up in their direction. Seeing a seriousness in them, they could never understand. The elves started to panic. Nearly knocking each other over. Turning the other way around, one snatched the bowl from your hands. Making you blink surprised as he went down the steps to the table.
The other one had taken a chalice to pour out water. Chuckling soft, you couldn’t help but laugh. Eyes meeting up Mithrandir up ahead with Elrond. His gaze settling on you for a moment, before throwing you a wink. In return you bowed your head to him. Going down the steps, you wanted to see the dwarves from up close. For it would be the first time you would look upon such folk. By the end of the stairs, you were being held back. Two swords crossing each other to block your path.
“Na-mel, I just want to see for a moment.” – begging them to let you pass. Even if it was for a moment. Both of them shook their heads. – “Na-mel, Y/n. Return to your chambers.” - Faelar spoke with pleading eyes. Hinting to you to return inside with the other lady elves. Lowering your gaze, you gave in. Returning back up the steps. It was unfair, but you could understand.
No Elvish women was allowed near them. Not wanting them to lay their eyes upon their Elven ladies. For they feared they would steal them. Picking the hem of your dress, you ran back inwards. Yet, you agreed to not meet them, you didn’t say anything about watching from afar. Scurrying between passing Elves, you couldn’t stop chuckling with excitement. Running to a remote place where you had the best kind of view on them. Climbing up, you reached a railing. Sitting down to glance down at them from between the bars.
Looking down upon the dwarven table. Silently counting them. Eleven of them at the table. Furrowing your brows, you wondered where the twelfth dwarf was. Not far from the table sat a man from a folk you were not familiar with. Smaller than dwarves. Listening in you tried to catch glimpses of their conversation.
“Where’s the meat?” – the bald one grunted out. Hand scooping in the bowl of lettuce with annoyance. – “Maybe… they don’t eat it?” – another one spoke sitting across from him. His voice made you drawn to him. Settling yourself better to look at him. He appeared to be younger than most of them. Perhaps it was the lack of long beard that made him appear so. He laughed making you blink bashful.
Wondering how this dwarf wasn’t as ugly as you were told. He seemed almost out of place between the other rugged dwarves. Each with beards and faces that could tell stories. His was different.
Intrigued, you leaning in more, if only it wasn’t for these bars making it impossible. He laughed again, falling back in his chair. Stomach shuddering with pleasure. His laughter made you snicker softly against the back of your hand. The moment he started to lean back forwards, his gaze went in your direction.
Needing to do a double-take to be certain he was seeing someone. Eyes widening, you gasped loud, turning yourself around. Back resting against the railing. Panting loud, chest rising and falling with swiftness. Lowering your hand, you dared to look once more. Slowly turning your body back to the front once more. You needn’t search for him for he was still looking.
Gazing with a gawk. Startled you jumped up. Fully revealing yourself. His eyes slightly widened with a fondness. A silly smile appearing on his lips. Shocked, you went back down, out of sight. – “Where are you looking at Kili?” – you heard one of them ask with loudness in their voice. – “Nowhere.” – Kili mumbled in return, lowering his gaze. He kept looking down at his own plate, until he dared to glance one more time.
Only to be met up with disappointment as you were no longer there. Having rushed down, panting loud once you were out of sight. Hand pressed against your chest. Unsure what this dwarven man was doing to your heart for it to beat so fast. For it was something no Elven man had succeeded in doing so. Was this the dwarven charm before they kidnapped girls? Shaking your head, you rejoined the crowd once more. Needing distractions from the thoughts swirling in your head.
Fili quirked his eyebrow up when he noticed his brother holding onto his knife a bit too tightly. – “What are you doing?” – he asked leaning in with a hushed tone. Kili clenched his hand harder on the knives handle. – “Nothing.” – he replied. Fili kept giving his brother a strange look. Uncertain of his intentions for he didn’t understand them.
Fili wanted to take the knife from him, but he wouldn’t let him. – “Kili?!” – he called out with confusion. Kili inhaled deeply, expression tensed. His gaze hardening on the Elven men. Hand trembling. – “Enough!” – Fili moved his hand down to his wrist. Kili reacted by moving his hand up.
Grabbing a piece of his hair and cutting it off. – “Brother?!” – Fili panicked, taking the knife from him. Kili stared at his own hand with the pluck of hair in it. Panting softly at what he had done. – “What have you done?” – Fili questioned. Kili stared with shock back at his brother. – “I…I…I don’t know… I just did.”- voice panicking a bit.
“Why would you cut your hair?” – Fili asked. Wanting to know what was going on in that head of his brother. – “I…I…I did it for her.” – he let out, staring back at the pluck of hair in his hand. – “For who?” – Fili spoke with confusion. – “I…I…” – he his gaze going towards the Elven men. Glaring at them with jealousy.
“I must find her.” – he spoke, shoving his chair back. – “Find who?” – Fili said, unable to reach his brother for he took off. – “Where is your brother off to?” – Balin asked. Fili simply shrugged his shoulders. Shaking his head at his brother’s foolishness. Kili started to search around. Ignoring the Elves, telling each one another lie as to why he was going around.
Turning his head every way to not miss a face in the crowd. Reaching a railing, he grabbed onto it. Panting softly as his gaze went downwards. Widening at the sight of the Elven girl from before by a graceful tree. Looking around, he searched for a way down. Hurrying over as quick as his feet could carry him.
Reaching the graceful tree, out of breath. – “Pl… please.” – he panted out, hand pressed on his chest to steady his breathing. The sudden voice made you startle. Jump up from your position and leap back. – “It’s you.” – you pointed out. He curled up a smile, still trying to steady his breathing. – “You aren’t supposed to be here. Return to your Dwarven kin.” – you insisted upon.
Kili finally managed to steady his breathing. Moving his hands behind his back. – “I came here to see… you.” – he said with curiosity. Tilting his head a bit, approaching you nonchalantly. You blinked startled with a soft swallow. – “I’m Kili.” – he introduced himself.
Awaiting for your name with a silly smile. – “Y/n.” – you replied in return with a brief curtsy. His face lit up by the hearing of your name. – “You are quite tall for a dwarf.” – you stated with a curious glimmer in your eyes. Kili chuckled upon that remark. – “It is my flaw.” – he responded. – “It is not?” – you gasped out, intrigued by him.
Kili chuckled once more. – “It is.” – ending his sentence with a smile. You came sitting down as Kili began his story. A story of when he was younger and clearly taller than any other dwarf. How they ridiculed him for it and made jokes. You listened in with great eagerness. Captivated by his story and voice.
You laughed at his silly jokes which only made him smile even more. Kili had come sitting down as well after a while. Listening to a story of yours now. Gazing with nothing but wonder at you. Whilst speaking, you couldn’t stop smiling bashful that he kept staring at you with such wonderous eyes. – “May I give you a present Y/n?” – he asked after a while. It made you blink surprised but nodded at his request. –“You must close your eyes for it.” – he said.
So you did, closing your eyes to the world in front of you. Kili got up to his feet. Going behind you. – “Tell me more about your world.” – he asked, taking out a small lint. Taking a strand of your hair. You began to speak, barely noticing him working through your hair. Braiding the stray of hair of his own in yours with a lint. – “This will mark you as mine…” – he whispered under his breath.
“Done.” – he said making you stop your tale. Open your eyes, expecting there to be a present. Furrowing your brows confused when Kili came from behind you. Turning your head, you felt the sudden heaviness in your hair. Making you grab for it.
Feeling the newly laid braid. – “What did you do?” – you questioned with a shocked expression. – “Nothing.” – he replied, pulling his shoulders up. – “Did you braid my hair?” – asking him in a panic. His smile faltered, seeing the panic in your eyes. – “Did… did I do something wrong with it?” – he wanted to know. You kept staring at him with shock in your eyes.
“This is only reserved for mellyn enni.” – your Elvish tongue slipping through. – “For what?” – Kili asked confused – “I…I…I…I didn’t know that… I was just marking you.” – he went on. – “Marking me? For whom?” – Fluttering surprised with your eyelashes. – “I…It’s a dwarven custom.” - he reassured you.
“What you just did is a Elven custom.” – you called back. His eyes went wide with a panic. Getting back up, heading to go behind you once more. – “I’ll… I’ll take it out then… I don’t mean to offend your ways.” – he uttered nervously. – “No!” – you shrieked out, keeping a hand on the braid. Kili stared at you, confused.
“You… you don’t want me to untangle it?” – questioning your intentions with furrowed brows. – “I…I…I’m not sure…” – you replied lowering your hand. Kili came back to your front. – “I still have to decide…” – you told him as he came sitting on his knees in front of you. Smiling bashful that you let it in… for now.

Lotr/the hobbit x druid!reader pt2
Ori x reader, Thorin x reader, Elrond x reader
Here is the >> part 1 << thank you so much for +500 likes/reblogs for that one! I hope you like this one too! ^^
Ori
🧸 You're the most beautiful being he has ever laid eyes on. At the start he would be too shy to approach you. So he will ask his friends about love and relationships, but also what they know about druids, which isn't so easy since druids aren’t common at all (at least in my fanfictions).
🧸 Ori LOVES your animal forms, specially the ones with fur and he will ask you as nicely as he can master, if he can pet you in any of it's form.
“Excuse me y/n, if you ever would have the time to transform into any animal, would it be alright if i could pet you? Of course only if you would be fine with it and if it wouldn't make you uncomfortable?”
🧸 If you came with them on their journey to take back Erebor, Ori will tell you awkwardly and a bit shyly, that he doesn't mind holding you if you ever get tired of flying/walking.
🧸 He is going to try so hard for you! You are so strong, dependable and just so amazing to him. Ori is really looking up to you and he wants you to feel like you can depend on him too! He wants to protect you too, even if he isn't so strong, but he will train extra hard for you! You probably have to tell him once in a while that he is good enough or he will think he is unworthy of you.
Thorin
💎 Doesn't believe Gandalf when he tells him that a druid will be supporting them in their journey.
“Nobody I know has ever met a druid and hearing about them isn't often. I bet they are nothing but a myth”.
💎 When Thorin meets you he still doesn't believe you're a druid. Just probably an odd wizard/witch that is playing tricks on him. Until you transform…holy shit! Can wizards/witches do that?? He looks at Gandalf only to see him smirking.
💎 It isn't your animal forms or element abilities that interest him, but the way you transform. The way your body bends and takes shapes after whatever you are supposed to transform to. The moment you change, the moment he has his eyes on you. It may be weird for you or him, but Thorin can't help it! It's so fascinating and it's like he is trying to figure out how you are doing it, but always fails.
💎 Thorin has probably been looking at you a little too much during battles because the way you fight with your abilities makes you look so gorgeous. Which could leave him getting seriously injured if his teammates didn't watch his back.
“Y/n stop distracting Thorin! Or he loses his focus and dies before making it to Erebor!”
“What!? I didn't do anything?!”
Thorin: “S-shut up!”
Elrond
🍁 He knows the moment he sees you, that you're a druid.
“It was a long time ago I met a druid. I’m glad to see there's still some more out there”.
🍁 Elrond will invite you over for dinner and have them serve you the best they can make. And he’ll offer you a place to stay for a few days if you're not in a hurry somewhere else.
🍁 Elrond love's to watch you using your ‘magic’ on flowers and plants. He loves to watch how you move your hands so gracefully and shape the plants the way you want it. It's so stunning every time!
🍁 The first time you showed him your powers. You'd asked Elrond about the beautiful flowers in his garden and if you could take some seeds with you. Elrond of course accepted and was about to go and get you the seeds but he stopped in his tracks and watched you move your hands around one of the flowers and give it enough energy to have it grow the seeds you needed. Elrond stood there speechless. That was something he’d never witnessed before and it was so magnificent.
“Would you like to have some other flower seeds as well?”
Thank you for reading! Have a good day! ❤ Reblogs are very appreciated 🥰
