Top Cars Named After Countries, States and Planets

After doing enough digging for an off-the-beaten-path topic to write about cars, I've come across everything from driver safety tips on down to a list of vehicles named after animals. And it's the last one idea that led me to write about some of the most well-known (and relatively obscure) cars and trucks named after a country, city or even better, a planet Names For Red Cars .

On top of that, I'll give a little bio on when they were introduced to the masses, whether they were discontinued or "slightly modified" to something else. You know, like how a Cobalt became the Cruze. Has a much crisper sound to it, I guess.

So, here's a handful of cars named after some of our most popular destinations… except for outer space, unless you've been witness to it and then, well, you're lucky.

Chevrolet Tahoe: Before the name change in 1995 from its original moniker as the Chevy Blazer, this full-size SUV shares the same alias as a lively lake/ski resort in California. And with the right car accessories, you can make the Tahoe car just as swanky as the city.

Maserati Indy: This one's an oldie, but a goodie. As a homage to the great race held over Memorial Day, this Maserati model had a brief lifespan from 1969 to 1975.

Chevrolet Malibu: One of the most notable cars in the Chevrolet lineup, this mainstay in the hearts of many in the U.S. and other regions outside have related to the warm, fuzzy feelings of the beach town it's named for. Until the late 70's, this model was known as the Chevelle… not a state, but the name was catchy enough anyways.

Ferrari California: Back in the mid to late 1950's, the Ferrari 250 GT was nicknamed California, and it wasn't until around 2008 that this super high-performance vehicle was permanently bestowed the moniker of this sunny, coastal and free-spirited state.

Hyundai Santa Fe & Tucson: I figured I lump these two into each other and point out that Hyundai apparently loved the great Southwest so much it went ahead and appointed these states as much.

Chevrolet Bel Air: Noticing a trend with Chevrolet, yet? Well that's because California cities have received a lot of attention with current, and past, models. The Bel Air had a great body design that leaned more towards the "boaty" cars than current, more aerodynamic models. And it had a great run of about 25 years of production up until 1975. I'm sure if you look hard enough in auctions or the classifieds, you'll find some collectors who still appreciate their design.

Mercury Milan: I've always loved the sound of this one, mostly because I want to visit Italy (it's a bucket list sort of thing). Anyways, this car shared similar build to the Crown Victoria… but a little more slick in the aerodynamics and power. While it only had a shelf life for a little over 6 years, it was still a notable one nonetheless.

Chevrolet Vega: Now there's a little variety. Taking a break from the states and cities, Chevrolet had a subcompact car named after the constellations. One of the brightest stars in the constellation Lyra, to be exact. This model could be found on roadways between 1971-1977.

We got one name in from Ice-T American freeway it sounds kind of lame at first to some people but our son says that sounds pretty good it's not like accentuating it to the abnormal or separating it out it's also saying something that was said for a while about the freeway and I still remembers it used to go on and people go fast they weren't enforcing the speed limit as much as they do now and it was really a free way and it means it's just not a toll road but they don't call him freeways anymore so he likes the idea and we like it too and if you put it correctly like American freeway and label it on the map want to put different numbers American freeway 101 in American freeway 110 and number in some way that makes sense from the North Dallas 40 up the coasts of Cali and they're probably another one up there one in New England and people like the idea so they might start on when near the north North Dallas 40 and just run it for a couple States and get to New Mexico faster you run it from Vegas Arizona to New Mexico and then you get there faster from this side you'll probably start from Louisiana and then it will get extended to Mississippi and then extended to Alabama once they see how it works and you have to go up and over stuff or drop things down below this is below so it's just this big flat thing and the Americans will probably use it for airplanes and jets to put a concrete base down I'll send government's listening its ice t's idea but you can move regular equipment in Jets and all sorts of stuff down the road pretty quick and you can shut it down they just have to use the regular highway so it's starting to think it's good and the sun says that you'll want to attack our wall area and use it for defense so it's probably going to get built and we want it up so we can go fast and so so much of a pain in the ass getting around from time to town it takes an hour and traffic is always jammed this thing will be jammed eventually it's like five Lanes each way with a system of going slower towards the on and off ramp so when you're not nailing it you have to be like in the fourth Lane you on 70 80 miles an hour and slowly and you're going off and on the third lane is for a certain speed usually slowing down or speeding up it's a good idea when he gets it is

So we're going to donate a section of it healthy Bill Masterson's and the guy saying no no.... So it's not that name at all it's the American freeway but we're going to donate a section and it can be from one of our companies probably not a light cycle company you said have you from Chevrolet he says because the Corvette a lot of people like it you have to do something to it to make it go fast

There's a ton of interest in his idea we wanted to contribute one section and two states have requested it so we're going to sit down with them and contribute to two sections and Mac is forwarding a design it's a lot of concrete and we'll have to get it locally he says he's going to provide the concrete he knows how to do it tons and tons of it required this is going to be 3 ft thick with paving on top now that won't hold a 10-mi tank or even a 5 Mile but I'll hold all sorts of trucks and other stuff and it's not really what he's looking for it's missiles and it's defense and mostly against ocean because the ones to the middle would be huge and much faster than the sun says well they probably bring a huge classroom that's going to try too but literally this is an awesome idea he says from Germany with love for our own you didn't say the with love part but they say it's with love for our own yes so and they're warning me not to talk for them and I'm saying okay I just said Russia and they said no it's from us it's our idea and we were on board with it they can knock it off said I'm not going to striate it that was weird I understand that it is strange cars go off course.
