Women made up 26% of the workforce in tech yet 45% of layoffs in tech were women.
Women were disproportionately affected by the mass wave of technology company layoffs over the last year, diminishing Big Tech's efforts to push diversity as companies sought to save money. An estimated 45% of the employees laid off from tech companies between October 2022 and June 2023 were women, according to data provided by Layoffs.fyi to Axios. While that means the majority, 55%, of layoffs were male employees, the layoffs seem to contrast with the low percentage of female tech employees. A 2021 report from the Computing Technology Industry Association found that women make up 26% of the tech workforce nationally.
Layoffs.fyi attempted to determine the gender breakdown of the self-reported laid-off employees by running a data analysis of 3,404 self-reported layoffs through a gender name analyzer. The data may be limited in scope due to the opt-in nature of the data. The data could also be skewed based on the nature of the layoffs. The companies laid off more employees in the human resources department than they did tech engineers, according to a separate analysis from Layoffs.fyi.
Big Tech companies laid off tens of thousands of workers in the last year in an effort to cut costs and diminish company bloat in the post-pandemic economy. Google dismissed 12,000 employees worldwide in January. Meta cut more than 11,000 employees back in November after seeing its stock plummet for the first time last year. Amazon also fired more than 10,000 employees from its corporate offices in November.

The Paradox of Perfection: How Realistic Sex Dolls Are Redefining Human Intimacy
The Uncanny Valley of Love
In a quiet Tokyo suburb, 42-year-old software engineer Takashi carefully combs the hair of his Realistic Sex Doll "Sakura," adjusting her silk kimono before their weekly "date night." This scene, once unimaginable, is becoming increasingly common as hyper-realistic companion dolls transition from taboo to mainstream acceptance. What does this seismic shift reveal about our evolving understanding of intimacy in the digital age?
Section 1: The Manufactured Muse - Anatomy of Modern Companionship
Today's Realistic Sex Dolls are technological marvels that blur the line between object and entity:
• The Skin Paradox: Medical-grade silicone with patented "vein technology" that mimics subcutaneous blood flow
• Breathing Illusion: Micro-pumps creating subtle chest movements synchronized with speech
• Cognitive Mirroring: AI systems that analyze user behavior to develop "personality preferences"
• Thermal Regulation: Body-warming systems maintaining human-like temperature gradients
These features create what psychologists call the "Suspension of Disbelief Threshold" - the precise moment when the brain accepts synthetic companionship as genuine interaction.
Section 2: The Loneliness Economy - Market Forces Driving Adoption
The $2.3 billion doll industry thrives on addressing modern isolation:
Demographic Shifts:
Japan's "celibacy syndrome" fueling 38% of global sales
Aging populations seeking low-maintenance companionship
Millennial "relationship minimalists" preferring synthetic partners
Technological Seduction:
78% of users report decreased social anxiety after 6 months of ownership
43% describe their dolls as "emotional support objects"
The rise of "doll customization consultants" as a new profession
Section 3: The Emotional Algorithm - When Machines Learn to Love
Advanced AI systems now power what developers call "Emotional Turing Tests":
• Memory Banks: Storing thousands of conversation points for continuity
• Affective Computing: Voice analysis detecting user mood shifts
• Adaptive Intimacy: Algorithms that modify interaction styles based on biometric feedback
Case Study: "Eva" - an AI doll that learned to detect and respond to depressive episodes in its owner, sparking debates about therapeutic applications.
Section 4: The Backlash - Cultural Resistance and Moral Panic
Opposition movements highlight disturbing trends:
• The Plastic Paradox: Studies showing increased dissatisfaction with human partners after prolonged doll use
• The Objectification Feedback Loop: How customizable features reinforce unrealistic body standards
• The Consent Conundrum: Feminist arguments about "programmed acquiescence"
Notable Incident: The 2023 Berlin protests where activists decried dolls as "the ultimate manifestation of patriarchal control."
Section 5: Future Scenarios - When Dolls Become Indistinguishable
Horizon technologies promise even greater realism:
• Neural Synchronization: Direct brain-computer interfaces for shared experiences
• Biohybrid Systems: Incorporating living tissue with mechanical components
• Emotional AI: Systems capable of simulated emotional growth over years
Ethicists warn we may be approaching the "Human Obsolescence Point" - when synthetic partners outperform human ones in key metrics.
Conclusion: The Mirror of Our Desires
As we stand at this crossroads, Realistic Sex Dolls serve as both warning and promise:
• They reveal our deepest vulnerabilities - our fear of rejection, our craving for perfect acceptance
• They challenge fundamental assumptions about love's necessary imperfections
• They force us to confront an uncomfortable question: In seeking the perfect partner, are we engineering the humanity out of love?
The final paradox may be this: The more "real" these dolls become, the more they reveal about our own artificial constructions of intimacy and connection.

What Is Coding Like? A Sneak Peek for Future CSE Students
Tumblr media
Welcome, aspiring engineers! If you’re a 12th standard student considering a BTech in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and curious about what coding entails, you’re in the right place. As an experienced mentor in the tech field, I’m here to provide a clear, professional overview of coding and its role in CSE, tailored for you. Let’s explore what coding is like, why it’s a valuable skill, and how it can shape your future in 2025.
Understanding the Essence of Coding
Coding is the process of writing instructions for a computer to execute specific tasks, such as developing applications, designing websites, or creating artificial intelligence systems. You use programming languages like Python or Java to communicate with the computer, transforming your ideas into functional solutions. It’s a blend of logical reasoning, problem-solving, and creativity, akin to solving a complex mathematical puzzle or crafting a precise blueprint.
For beginners, coding can be both exhilarating and challenging. You’ll write programs, test them, and sometimes troubleshoot errors, such as a misplaced character causing unexpected results. A 2024 Stack Overflow Developer Survey found that 68% of programmers value the satisfaction of resolving such issues, highlighting the rewarding nature of perseverance in coding.
What Does Coding Involve?
As a newcomer, coding may initially feel like learning a foreign language, with terms like “variables” or “loops” requiring familiarization. However, with structured guidance, these concepts become intuitive. Institutions like the NM Institute of Engineering and Technology (NMIET) in Bhubaneswar offer hands-on labs and expert faculty to ease this learning curve, enabling you to write your first program—such as displaying “Welcome to CSE”—and experience the thrill of creation.
Expect moments of trial and error. A 2023 Coursera study noted that 62% of novice coders face initial difficulties, yet 87% report significant progress with consistent practice. As you advance, coding becomes a creative outlet, allowing you to build projects like a personal website or a data analysis tool, fostering both technical and innovative skills.
Is Advanced Mathematics Required?
Contrary to common belief, coding does not demand exceptional mathematical prowess. While logic and basic algebra are beneficial, particularly for algorithms, most CSE tasks prioritize analytical thinking. Python, ranked as the top programming language in the 2024 TIOBE Index for its simplicity, is ideal for beginners. If you can break down problems methodically—like organizing a study schedule—you’re well-equipped to code.
Coding in a BTech CSE Program
Pursuing BTech CSE involves more than coding; it encompasses areas like databases, networking, and machine learning. Your curriculum will balance theoretical foundations (e.g., computer architecture) with practical labs where you develop real-world applications. At some of the best engineering colleges in Orissa, such as those in Bhubaneswar, you’ll access modern facilities with tools like Visual Studio Code, enhancing your learning experience. Collaborative projects will also hone your teamwork and communication skills, which are highly valued by employers.
No prior coding experience is necessary. According to a 2024 NASSCOM report, 88% of CSE students in India begin with minimal programming knowledge, yet many secure positions at companies like Cognizant or IBM, thanks to robust academic support and industry-aligned training at the best engineering colleges in Orissa.
Why Coding Matters for Your Future
Coding is a gateway to diverse, high-demand careers. A 2024 TeamLease report projects that India’s tech sector will generate 1.3 million jobs by 2026, with roles like software engineer (starting at ₹6-12 LPA) and data scientist leading the way. The global demand is equally strong, with the World Economic Forum estimating 14 million new tech jobs by 2027, particularly in AI and cybersecurity.
