☆═─---------------------------------------------------------------─═☆
howdy there! i'm goodolal, you can call me al or ally! ᵔᴗᵔ
to introduce myself, i'm a twenty year old student studying computer information systems. my curriculum combines business fundamentals with networking/technological concepts so you will see a lot content related to that here.
i'm not one hundred percent set on a direction for this blog yet, but im thinking i wanna use this a space for inspiration as well as a progress tracker for my own learning. i'll be posting daily agendas/progress reports, study resources, inspirational quotes and maybe a personal blurb here and there.

The use of computers does not become ‘mainstream’; it is now a necessity. Computer information systems let organizations dealing with mass electronic and information collect, organize, and distribute their data. They apply to those organizations that have to deal with large quantities of electronic data. Knowledge of information systems is a decent asset in all industries because individuals skilled at developing solutions for data management are in demand. Information systems are a considerable concern for many companies that decide their competitive edge. The following article explores this field and what you can do with a degree in computer information systems.
What is a Computer Information System?
Computer information systems is a broad term. It manages communications between hardware and software on data storage and management devices. Examples include databases, cloud storage, and servers. The architecture of CIS is based on the data collected and the way an organization wants to use it. Professionals in computer information systems, also known as systems managers and database administrators, determine the most productive configuration and perform hardware and software integrations accordingly.
Professionals will need to know how to improve a company’s current business processes by implementing a computer information system that can meet organizational needs. For example, if an organization is anxious about its employee productivity, IT professionals might take an existing computer information system and tailor it to track and measure relevant metrics. This system would provide data that could be used to design workplace policies that optimize labor hours.
Types of Computer Information System

Components of Computer Information Systems
Hardware comprises all the physical devices involved in the computing processes of an information system. With the appropriate software and programs that allow users to direct their computers to manipulate hardware, data, and program files, such systems are usable for communicating with other devices. A subcategory of computer information systems refers to the handling of communications between hardware devices and their software called information technology.
Most of the organizations store their information in databases using IT. The process of using, running, and maintaining these systems is guided through an organization’s predefined procedures for using its information system. This usually comes from a written or verbal comment from some IT professional or senior leader in an attempt to safeguard the data.
Essential Skills for Computer Information Systems
https://enterprisewired.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/1.2-Essential-Skills-for-Computer-Information-Systems.jpg
1. Business Processes and Management Expertise
The CIS occupations entail various overlapping areas of business and technology. Knowledge of basic concepts, such as resources and delegation of tasks, techniques in management of the projects, and communication between various departments, is essential for CIS operations.
2. Technical Knowledge
Having Foundational knowledge of the industry’s best practices, an understanding of computer hardware, and some experience with at least one programming language will be helpful for them.
3. Mathematics
CIS professionals should have a foundational knowledge of algebra, statistics, calculus, geometry, and algorithms. A firm grasp of these mathematical subjects will allow for a much deeper understanding of what is happening on a mathematical level with analysis programs and coding functions.
Benefits and Challenges
Information systems have opened many exciting doors in the public and private sectors. In so doing, these systems allow organizations to communicate more effectively than ever before. These, in turn, stimulate creative innovation and make collaboration more manageable than it was previously conceivable.

The drawbacks to CIS are their susceptibility to cyber security breaches by hackers, malware, and viruses. Depending on the size of these systems, it may also be costly to maintain them on the macro level. The cost is again somewhat irrelevant, however, as the benefits of using a computer information system may well outweigh the costs of not doing so.
Conclusion
Computer information systems have been necessary for the management of large sets of data for their effective collection, organization, and distribution. The major categories include Transaction Information Systems, Management Information Systems, and Decision Support Systems that help a variety of business functions.
CIS involves key elements like hardware, software, and communication technologies; besides these, a professional should be accomplished in technical knowledge, business processes, and mathematics. The benefits include enhanced communication, smooth operations, and decision-making. However, it poses a challenge regarding cyber security risks and the maintenance cost of the same. Nevertheless, CIS studies come with ample career opportunities in a data-driven world.

one thing about being in too much pain to uphold social niceties (period and it's a bad one) is that i did spend all day at work not only doubled over and moving at a pace the ninety year old library ladies were lapping but i was even worse than usual at tasks like Looking At People Who Are Chewing Gum and "not edging away bugeyed when a coworker stands close next to me" and of course the perennial favorite "keeping track of more than three words spoken to me in a row and responding to that" and we'll let me merely say. it is just me and that murderbot. nobody else in this whole damn library understands
#(we catalogued a bunch of martha wells today and it was very apropos)#i just think. when im wounded and dripping secret fluids you can't expect me to keep up with this other shit is all#bookbot doesnt have any combat skills but it does have a faster search than the opac computer#so as soon as it remembers how sentences and conveyance of the searched information works you'll be in the business#augggggh and it was so busy too!!!111 and the guy who monologues on the phone called again and he always starts his calls with#'HEY darlin'!' fuck off robert call me darlin one more time. motherfucker#this is linux robert. we really dislike getting calls from linux robert. robert i'm blind is a different cooler guy#robert im blind is a blind guy named robert who introduces himself in those exact words. and he calls every solstice#in order to find out the exact time the solstice or equinox begins . i always wonder what rituals hes performing#linux robert merely wants to bother our IT department about the minutea of ubuntumint or whatever .no matter how many times we tell him NO#he cannot accept that our IT staff is busy keeping the whole county's library system running and cannot be his personal home computer staff#and that it is highly unlikely one of them would let him burn his custom linux mods onto the public library computers#(i THINK that's what he's trying to do. he is not great at explaining in what one might call. layman's terms. despite being The Explainer)#linux robert is deeply on the spectrum but guess what dude! so am i and so am your little brother who i went to grade school with#at least 25% of our patron base is on the spectrum the library is a very autistic place to be#autism doesnt exclude a guy from being a real annoying pain in the ass who calls you darlin condescendingly#his brother is a wonderful guy. i used to hang out with him at lunch bc his tss had adopted me as a sort of pseudoclient#she clocked my twelve year old weird and said oh ive got room for one more. so jon and i were like two chicks under the wing#and my good sixth grade buddy jon would never call me unsolicited endearments. because first of all he's literally nice#and second of all our favorite thing to do together was not talk#WHEW. anyway. long ass day . my coworker and i have resolved one of these days to clearly tell robert not to do that please#because otherwise he wont know . but it's also possible someone's already told him this and he just doesnt care

It’s so funny to me that Temenos can deal with all sort of disrespect and veiled insults from his peers and people who should respect him and come out completely unruffled and as unflappable as ever, but Ochette telling him he has big adorable eyes is what breaks his composure

Not gonna lie it actually kills me a little bit inside whenever someone doesn't know, and refuses to learn, anything about computers. Like I'm no tech guru. If you asked me about circuit boards or programming or how a gpu really works, I won't be able to tell you, but if you asked me what kind of gpu I own, and other hardware, I would. I have it all memorised, not only because I built my pc myself (and researched extensively for it) but because it's useful information.
I recently started playing Warhammer, and when I tried to launch the game for the first time, it warned me there was a problem with a specific type of cpu. My type of cpu. If I didn't know that, I wouldn't have recognised there was a problem, and I could have severely damaged my computer over time. I had to update my bios (which I had never done before ever), the concept terrified me, but I did research, and I managed it. I learnt something new.
But there are people I've talked to who don't understand the difference between a web browser and a search engine. The number of people I notice who sit their laptops on a fabric case in a lecture and risk overheating. In response to a photo I posted online of my pc, someone asked me where the computer was because there was no visible monitor. A person once recommended me a website to print and deliver photos for free and never even checked the terms and conditions for such a sketchy business plan (lo and behold you were practically giving them rights to your personal images). I get scam messages with urls that are so obviously fake I'm mind-blown when I remember people fall for it. I had to explain to someone else today what a sim card does.
You don't have to be the most informed person on the planet, you just have to put in the effort to learn these things. You use these devices every single day, keep one in your pocket, your bag, almost constantly, and you don't know the bare minimum of how it works??? You can't search for your device specs? Can't read a url? Don't know the difference between a download and an installation? Friends I'm begging you you have all the world's information beneath your fingertips and you haven't ever questioned how? You've never read a five-year-old reddit post for a hyperspecific problem only a handful of people have encountered? I'm so far from the paragon of Computer Knowledge but at least I know the difference between a browser and a search engine. At least I can confidently say my settings reflect my needs.
#this is so much of a complain-post that I'm honestly embarrassed#but it's a genuine thing I've found among too many people#and I don't even speak to that many people#The other day my dad had to explain the difference between the internet and wifi to me so I am definitely guilty of this too#but once I complained about having to download windows and someone genuinely said 'you have to download windows???'#oh my child you're going to have a field day when you realise windows is not the only operating system to exist#Like it's okay to ask questions. It's okay to seek answers. No one is going to deny you information.#I just find it mindboggling that in a modern society where we use these devices every day people still don't know the basics.#tech#computer#computers#technology#phone#pc#god I hope this doesn't sound condescending

KDE Plasma 6.4 released
Plasma is a popular desktop (and mobile) environment for GNU/Linux and other UNIX-like operating systems. Among other things it also powers the desktop mode of Steam Deck gaming handheld. The KDE community today announced the latest release: Plasma 6.4. This fresh new release improves on nearly every front, with progress being made in accessibility, color rendering, tablet support, window management, and more.
Plasma already offered virtual desktops and customizable tiles to help organize your windows and activities, and now it lets you choose a different configuration of tiles on each virtual desktop. The Wayland session brings some new accessibility features: you can now move the pointer using your keyboard’s number pad keys, or use a three-finger touchpad pinch gesture to zoom in or out. Plasma file transfer notification now shows a speed graph, giving you a more visual idea of how fast the transfer is going, and how long it will take to complete. When any applications are in full screen mode Plasma will now enter Do Not Disturb mode and only show urgent notifications, and when you exit full screen mode, you’ll see a summary of any notifications you missed. Now when an application tries to access the microphone and finds it muted, a notification will pop up. A new feature in the Application Launcher widget will place a green New! tag next to newly installed apps, so you can easily find where something you just installed lives in the menu. The Display and Monitor page in System Settings comes with a brand new HDR calibration wizard, and support for Extended Dynamic Range (a different kind of HDR) and P010 video color format has been added. System Monitor now supports usage monitoring for AMD and Intel graphic cards, it can even show the GPU usage on a per-process basis. Spectacle, the built-in app for taking screenshots and screen recordings, has much improved design and more streamlined functionality. The background of the desktop or window now darkens when an authentication dialog shows up, helping you locate and focus on the window asking for your password. There’s a brand-new Animations page in System Settings that groups all the settings for purely visual animated effects into one place, making it easier to find and configure them. Aurorae is a newly added SVG vector graphics theme engine for KWin window decorations.
You can read more about these and many other other features in the Plasma 6.4 anounncement and complete changelog.

Xerox 8010 Star Information System via The National Museum of American History:
The Xerox 8010 Star had a number of "firsts" associated with it -- -first system to include a mouse, -first employ a graphical user interface where the user navigated by clicking icons rather than typing commands, and -first to incorporate folders, file servers, and email.
It also cost $16,595 in 1981 for "a single workstation which included the basic software." Which, adjusting for inflation, is now $56,305.61.

I do find it so funny that I will graduate college days away from my birthday. Like my birthday is literally in between the end of the semester ("graduation") and commencement
It really will be like a joint graduation & birthday party for me lmao
#speculation nation#i dont really do birthday parties anymore. havent in a long time. mostly just go out and do smth fun around my bday. ya kno#also have cake but like not in a party way. just like. here's cake lol#but im probably only gonna graduate from college once. which means i might as well live it up and all.#invite all sorts of extended family and people who have known me. etc etc.#actually it just kinda sunk in that i am. Computer and Information Technology (Systems Analysis and Design focus) w a minor in Communication#like those are words. it's a lot of words but actually it really is pretty accurate?? like that's indeed what ive been studying.#now how much i *remember* is another question. considering how long ive taken to get thru school lol#but that's what people will see on my degree. that's my Thing. graduated in Computer Systems and Talking.#idk it's just weird to have spent so much of my life on this and like That's the culmination. it took so much work.#even beyond a normal 4 years. i switched my major *twice*. switched my minor too.#first year engineering to undecided liberal arts (as a temp major trying to switch to computer science bc i couldnt stay in FYE)#but then computer science sucked so i switched to trying to get into computer & info tech. which is different. and better.#and ive been in it long enough now that ive kinda forgotten but it did take some fuckin work to switch into it.#like i had to take certain classes first & i couldnt take them during the semesters that in-major students would take them#and i had to have my gpa up to a certain level etc etc. so many hoops to jump thru. i think it took me at least a year. or more. idr#but i made it in and thats my major. thats my thing. computers and information systems and communication.#doesnt FEEL like im an almost-graduate. but then i think about all the things ive taken and learned.#and maybe i dont remember a lot of the more specific things from these classes. but i took core lessons away from each one.#wont be able to recite the theories but i can live them. and thats the point of an education i guess.#anyways im gonna have to start job searching before too long and eughhbb. need to get my license first tho probably.#which i will... i will.... i have so many things to deal with... my life will be So Different in a year...#it will require me to put in the work now. but i can do it. and then a year from now. i'll hopefully be in a better spot.#living somewhere else. graduated from college. with a license and a car. maybe even an IT job of some kind.#kind of scared of trying to find a Big Boy Job. aka a job that requires a degree and networking and all that shit.#rather than just showing up and being like Hi i can do this job. i am not a total drain of a person. hire me please 👍#hfkahfks so many things to think about. and through it all i am still dealing with DEADLINES...!!!!#but yeah this is why my writing has largely been put on hold. idk i have a lot of things im dealing with rn.

@caemthe said (inbox):
[ for cal ] “You’re the one who got him that gulpuff keychain, aren’t you?” The ranger Ningwei asked while yawning, except that he wasn’t really asking a question. “First time I see that idiot- I mean, General Jiyan beaming. You could almost see the little sparkles following him.” He then yawned again and grumbled something about the damn TD not letting him get a wink of sleep before he continued talking. “I mean it, I have never seen him smile like that from the fancy stuff he got from that one New Federation nobleman.” Said fancy stuff were just displays of gratitude for saving the man a few years ago but, out of exhaustion, Ningwei was wording things in a way that made plenty of heads turn. That last sentence in particular made a few of the mercenaries present click their tongue in annoyance, taking the opportunity to share their less than positive thoughts on the New Federation’s nobility.
AT FIRST, CALCHARO MERELY STARED at the Midnight Ranger, confused as to what they were talking about until realization dawned upon him come their next words. Ah, yes, he had bought that for Jiyan a while back. There was no particular reason for it, so he liked to tell himself. It was just that he had a feeling that the General was fond of gulpuff – a guess, if anything. An accurate one considering how happy the other man was upon receiving it. Honestly, he had thought that keychain was collecting dust on a shelf somewhere, kept out of courtesy, more or less, as to be expected of Jiyan. That man would keep a rock if someone gave it to him. Thus, upon hearing all of this, at first Calcharo didn’t give it much thought. It was just everything that was said afterwards that gave him pause. Feeling strangely embarrassed, and perhaps something else, despite his expression not having shifted from its usual composure. Mention of a noble from the New Federation, however, did snatch the rest of his attention. Was the Federation reaching out to Huanglong now? No, he doubted that. Besides, one noble didn’t mean much unless they held a great deal of political influence. So, there was really only one ‘noble’ they could be talking about.
Mortefi.
His tongue clicked softly, quiet displeasure that mirrored that of a few of his mercenaries. Though, unlike them and their grumbling, he, at least, was not vocal about his less than enthused feelings. Still, his issues with Mortefi aside, he was surprised that Jiyan was that happy with the gift that there was such a visible difference in how he reacted. After all, that little keychain wasn’t anything special. It wasn’t as if it cost an arm and a leg to get in comparison to whatever it was that Mortefi had created. All he had lost was just a few shell credits, the same amount one would lose if they bought themselves pieces of candy. Maybe…Jiyan just…really liked that TD that much, he guessed? It didn’t really cross his mind that it wasn’t just the keychain itself that had made the General happy. That perhaps it was just the fact that Calcharo, a man who very rarely ever did such things, had him in mind when it was purchased. ❝I bought it on a whim, but it’s good to hear that the General liked the keychain enough to carry it around.❞ Why were they even telling him this in the first place…? Regardless of the reason, it was difficult for Calcharo to deny the warmth this information brought.
Perplexing…
#caemthe#;caemthe : jiyan#[excuse u mr ningwei cal has no idea what to do with this information#he's trying to compute it all -- getting system errors because#what do u mean jiyan was super happy over that mere keychain???#cal vc: but it's just a keychain...#-LIES DOWN-]#;m: c.alcharo

September 30 2024 2009
Sufficiently quenched theres only one thing left for the cans of Tab.
Joining democratic society.
Anyway, WV goes to take a look at the big computer and preses ESCAPE bringing us to a command line screen filled with prompts. At the absolute top are prompts in green that were entered some time before WV appeared.
Gonna have to brush off my CS cap for this one. Now since we dont know what system this computer runs on Im going to operate on the assumption that this is Linux as Ive played around more with that terminal than Windows.
I assume that the green text is a Super User (or using sudo privileges but Im pretty sure its rhe former). What is a super user you ask? The windows equivilent would be Admin and essentially gives this user root directory privileges to access the whole system and make changes. Obviously this can lead to problems if done incorrectly so a password is put in place to prevent just anyone from making system changes. Thats where sudo comes in. Sudo elevates the commands you are giving and will require a password when you access.
Now that thats cleared up, lets look at the prompts. Each of these is preceeded with =>, possibly denoting root prompts from a sudo user. Skipping HOME for a moment, we see VIEW which takes us out of the command terminal to video feed on each of the four screens. SWITCH, well, switches between the screens, the order of which was 2-3-4-1.
I dont know if there is a meaning behind starting at two, Roses screen, but screen 2 shows feed of her house displaying static in front of Zazzerpan whos hand has been broken. Screen 3 shows a, to us, future scene of Dave, potentially post strife, and a first level prototyped kernel. This screen brings a lot of questions. Who is Daves server player? If each of these screens is showing current live feed, how much time passed between the strife and prototyping? What happened to Rose that her feed is locked on Zazzerpan? Unfortunately, WV abandons continuing the previous users commands and enters HOME so we cant see who is on screen 4.
Before diving into what happens with the HOME command, lets go back to the green text. ESC we established brings us back to the teminal. Here this user entered the password to LOCK room 3. Its unclear what room 3 is but Im guessing this was supposed to block access to interacting with Dave. Most likely our SU was preparing this computer for whoever stumbled upon it and blocked access to all but Johns screen.
At the bottom of the terminal is a smaller screen that displays the character of focus, in this case John, and the command VIEW which would maximize the camera screen one again. So after ensuring the screens SU wanted were locked, SU returned the view to screen 1 which is what WV saw upon booting. After everything was in order, the system was then rebooted which saved these changes and returned the system to normal user function logging out of the root directory.
In normal user function, entering HOME activates all the screens and our favorite ominous number appears.
Four hours and thirteen minutes. Another countdown, and this time who knows what its for. Nothing more can be typed as the keyboard is now locked.
But WV is none too worried. He is a Mayor now with much more pressing matters.
The militia wont train itself you know.

In looking up something for the Christiane post, I came across the scene where Alex and Damon are trading the flash drive and it's so gross. Like, surely Alex must be making enough money to turn away jobs, so why would she accept a job that requires her to sleep with Michael's father to get information for Damon, who is supposedly their enemy at the moment? Is he paying her that much?
#and don't even get me started on her having a minor in computer science so that she can hack his system to get said information#what am i supposed to do with that?#either our main antagonist can't keep the 21 year old college student that's he's paying to sleep with out of his computer#where he keeps all his evil plans#or alex can literally do everything whenever it's convenient for her to do so#and has no problem sleeping with the enemy who's also her friend's father at the request of her closest friend's former best friend#but of course pd covers it with alex doesn't care about getting anyone's approval#it's not about whether i approve! i don't care what the characters are doing#as long as it makes sense#everyone in this situation is stupid#no character tags#because we don't tag hate
