Hyundai Pony Coupé Concept Recreation, 2023. Italdesign were responsible for the original Hyundai Pony, the Korean manufacturer's first model. In addition to the Pony saloon Giorgetto Giugiaro also designed a coupé which was revealed 50 years ago, in 1974. though there were plans to put the coupé into series production they never came to pass. Last year, ahead of the annual Concorso d’Eleganza Hyundai presented a recreation of Giugiaro's 1974 concept.

In 1960, an absolute masterpiece of the Milan Carrozzeria Zagato was created in an English-Italian collaboration: the Aston Martin DB 4 GT Zagato. 50 years later, the decision was made to launch a new creation for the anniversary: the Aston Martin V12 Vantage Zagato, which went into small series production almost exactly 12 years ago. A total of 101 units were produced at a sporty price of around 500,000 euros. But 510 bhp in an Italian dress were good arguments. One of these cars surprisingly crossed our path in Hamburg. The roof, hood and doors were handcrafted from aluminum, while the front and rear fenders, trunk lid and side sills are made of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic. Less weight is more. And if you look closely, you will even recognize the typical Zagato "double bubble" roof. Sprezzatura at its best!

With the BMW 2800 Spicup, the Turin designer opted for a name which expresses the theme of the car, that is, its metamorphosis between spider and coupé and back again: the name Spicup is in fact spider + coupé.

BMW 2800 Spicup: The Bertone design is a reworking of the glorious 507 Spider produced by the German carmaker. It is based on the chassis of the 2500 saloon, shortened from 269 cm to 234 cm, with a 2800 cc. engine, which was already being mounted on the coupé presented by BMW in the same period.  The considerable dimensions of the mechanical components were handled by creating almost excessively fluid vertical lines. At the same time, the relatively important tail and wings become the car’s focal point. The rollbars had to satisfy a combination safety needs and design criteria, and Bertone solved the problem with an automatic mechanism which also contained the elements for the transformation from spider to coupé and back again. The BMW 2800 Spicup was presented at the 1969 Geneva Motor Show. After premiering on Carrozzeria Bertone’s stand, the Spicup was exhibited at the Concorso d’Eleganza in Allassio in June and finally at that year’s Frankfurt Motor Show. Its subsequent whereabouts are not totally clear, though it appears that the car was sold to a private owner shortly afterwards. Several sources have reported the Spicup being present in the mid-1970s at the German mega-dealer Auto Becker in Düsseldorf, which had a special showroom devoted to exotic cars at that time. A few years later, the Spicup was purchased by a Dutch motor dealer who decided to keep the car and obtained regular road registration. The exterior colour was changed from green to orange and the elaborate multi-hued green and silver interior was sprayed over – in black. In this configuration the car was used as a daily driver for the next 10 years, covering some 100,000 kilometres, which makes it probably the most-used one-off show car in the world! The Spicup was sold by Auction House Bonhams in 2011.

BMW Concept Touring Coupé, 2023. Presented at the opening of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2023, a shooting brake prototype based on the Z4 using an in-line 6 cylinder engine. The functionality of the shooting-brake concept references the BMW 02 Series model variants of the early 1970s, that used the "Touring” designation to separate them from saloons.

Concorso di Eleganza 2023 a Stresa

Tutto è pronto per il Concorso d’Eleganza che il Classic Club Italia organizza nello splendido scenario di Stresa, manifestazione del calendario ASI, premiata con tre Premi Speciali e negli ultimi due anni dalla Manovella d’Oro, patrocinata e sostenuta dal Comune di Stresa. Fulcro dell’evento, che si terrà da sabato 14 ottobre a domenica 15 ottobre,  sarà lo splendido Hotel Regina Palace, inoltre quest’anno ricorre il 60° anniversario della nascita della Lamborghini: tra le auto di questa casa presenti verrà premiata la prima classificata con il Trofeo Lamborghini. Ideatore della manifestazione è il Classic Club Italia, nato nel giugno 1994 dalla volontà di un gruppo di appassionati di auto d’epoca, mossi dall’idea di creare un’associazione che agisse a livello nazionale. Lo scopo dell’associazione è stato da subito quello di fornire ai soci una ricca consulenza tecnica per il restauro dei mezzi e assicurativa, anche mediante la costituzione di delegati regionali, che sono responsabili di coordinare con la sede centrale l’intensa attività. Uno dei punti di forza del Classic Club Italia è rappresentato dai raduni, dove figurano prestigiose manifestazioni a tappe in Italia e all’estero. E’ confermato per l’evento il patrocinio del Comune di Stresa e il fulcro delle due giornate sarà lo splendido Hotel Regina Palace di Stresa, location presso cui soggiorneranno i partecipanti, che sarà il cuore delle verifiche delle vetture da parte dei Commissari e dell’esposizione aperta al pubblico. Sabato 14 ottobre, a partire dalle 14, saranno aperti gli accreditamenti presso l’Hotel Regina Palace, sul cui giardino, di fronte al lago, potranno essere esposte le autovetture per i primi contatti con il pubblico e con i Commissari. Alle 17 ci sarà la partenza in battello per un tour sul Lago Maggiore, con aperitivo a bordo e alle 19 è previsto il rientro in Hotel. Verso le 20:30 si terrà la cena di gala, con termine la presentazione, a cura dell’autore, di un volume sul motorismo storico. Domenica 15 ottobre alle 10 ci sarà il trasferimento delle autovetture, in sequenza con il numero assegnato, dal garage dell’Hotel alla vicina Piazza Guglielmo Marconi sul lungolago, dove avrà inizio la sfilata dei modelli, singolarmente commentate dallo Speaker dell’evento.
