Ah yes. Face transplants. Notably easy surgeries, that any disgraced surgeon-chef-psychopath could pull off successfully.

Do you know him from Boardwalk Empire?
I first saw him in True Detective , but he was even more memorable in Boardwalk.
It’s the reason I literally cannot stop thinking his name is “Remus”.
IN HANNIBAL TOO???

I was adamant it was your face I wanted. I was looking at your face while you were watching me cut mine off and I thought, "Oh, that's a nice face."

Okay, I understand, and I would definitely be tempted to invite, say, Dr. Lecter to help himself. Because I trust his surgical expertise. He may not be ethical, but he seems competent.
And he mostly only seems to kill small brunette women when he wants to get Will’s attention (RIP Ms. Boyle, Ms. Schuur, and Ms. Hobbs), so… as long as Hanners is satisfied in his situationship, I think I should be fairly safe. Probably.
But even for the low, low price of “free”, I would not want a hysterectomy done by some sketchy-ass motherfucker that Mason Verger found on Craigslist.
Because like… even if Dr. Creepypasta had a license at some point, you just know he doesn’t have one anymore. He wouldn’t be there if he could be in a real hospital. Honestly, I wouldn’t be entirely surprised if he was self-taught.
Also, Mason; assisting. Like, he may be in scrubs, but… how sanitary is he? I would bet five (5) Canadian dollars that he’s the kind of guy who picks his nose and smears the boogers on the wall beside him. I do not want him within fifty feet of the operating theatre.
Not that it’s much of an operating theatre… it seems to be some random tarped-off room. And like… are those sterile medical tarps? Do those exist? Would these chucklefucks know where to find them if they did, or did they just swing through the closest Home Depot?
And they’re in the middle of nowhere, so like… if there had been complications, it would’ve most-likely been game-over for Ms. Verger before an ambulance got there. If they even called one.
And like… sure, Margot’s scar is kind of intensely badass, aesthetically, but realistically… what’s the pain level from such a huge incision? What about the risk of like… adhesions and shit? That’s definitely not best practice.
Also - I know Hannibal’s handling of medical waste is a bit suss. There’s a good change he’d use my human roe to create the world’s most cursed sushi. And maybe I should feel bad about the people he might serve that to.
But like… Mason is worse.
(It gets kind of dark under the cut. CW for abortion mention, and discussion of the actual historical context for forced sterilizations.)
I’m definitely not a life-begins-at-conception person (access to safe abortion is a human right), and I doubt those pig-implanted fetuses would’ve gotten very far in their porcine host, but at the same time…
90% of point of losing the uterus (for me at least) is to not in any way involuntarily become a parent.
So the idea of some creeper using my eggs to make kids with after removing them?
Truly horrifying.
(Finally, quick acknowledgement that my country - Canada, where NBC Hannibal was filmed - has a pretty significant history of doing the exact thing that was portrayed in the show to marginalized women; and on an industrial scale. Many of the victims were indigenous, and in that context, it was an attempt to commit genocide.
It’s more than a little uncomfortable to me that the show portrayed this particular crime being perpetrated against a wealthy, able white woman; because it completely divorces the act from the much more upsetting context in which real people actually experienced it. )
Watched that part of Hannibal where Margot straight up gets her uterus stolen and sure it was supposed to be tragic or whatever, but I couldn't stop fucking thinking about. She got that done for free. For FREE. Free ass hysterectomy without having to go through any medical hoops and somehow Mason did not kill her during that whole process? Literally I just see that as a win.

Is anyone else finding it suspiciously convenient that Mason Verger was able to find someone who had culinary ability, surgical training, and a level of sadism comparable to Hannibal’s own?
Like, I have spent many an afternoon poring through through the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons’ disciplinary hearing records.
And yeah, there is at least one former surgeon in the province who is now prohibited from doing surgery, and who is apparently very comfortable risking maiming people with unnecessary cortisol injection treatments; something which he presumably does to swell his billable services quotient, and for which he has been cited and/or sued repeatedly.
So like… yeah, surgeons who are not good people exist.
But to find one who’s also an excellent cook?
…and also desperate and/or reckless enough to tie himself to a mad, murderous nepo-baby, and thereby risk going to jail and/or being fed to the pigs himself once his utility runs out?
And who would take such obvious pleasure in the idea of disassembling a living person?
Like, how many disgraced surgeons did Mason have to interview? Surely at least a half-dozen. Did none of them think…
“Huh; this guy seems like he may be the next notably awful Canadian nepo-baby serial killer. I should probably put in at least an anonymous tip with law enforcement.”
It just feels like a lot of things would have to come together, and I really don’t know how Mason, even with his infinite resources and bottomless creepiness, would’ve been able to find this dude without coming to the attention of law enforcement in the process.

Mason Verger: So what do ya think, Cordell? Does Lecter want to fuck her or kill her or eat her alive? Cordell Doemling: Probably all three, though I wouldn't want to predict in what order.
