Making dreamcatchers is fine - they're not a sacred item, they're more akin to a baby mobile or a decorative wall hanging. Selling dreamcatchers would be problematic though, as you'd be setting yourself up in competition with indigenous craftspeople and - if you claimed NDN identity while doing it - violating the Indian Arts and Crafts Act of 1990.
Suggestion: check out macrame as a similar craftform without potential baggage.
Can I ask a super serious question to the Native Americans out there?
So a small backstory is part of my family is confirmed Native American, and I was raised with the belief I was part as well. I was raised on respecting the Earth, hunt for food, don't waste etc.
Eventually I took a DNA test and found out im 100% not that bitch. I'm just white as all hell. I realized the way my family tree is, I missed the Native DNA by an uncle or something like that.
Now my mom was raised the same way and she makes dream catchers. Nothing too fancy, she uses metal hoops, colorful strings and beads.
I started making them too, same idea but I like to add bells and jingles and gems.
Is that okay or should I stop?

If you have any questions about this item, please use the “Ask a Question” button next to the price and we’ll get right back to you as soon as possible. There are a lot of advantages to self publishing over traditional publishing, To be a successful author, it needs hard work! Self publishing requires you to have knowledge of every aspect of the publishing process, like designing, formatting, and marketing. Platforms like Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing make self publishing accessible to everyone, but it can feel overwhelming to independent authors. What do you need to use Amazon KDP? What technical skills do we need to meet Amazon KDP requirements? How to promote our book? Here are seven tips and tricks to hack Amazon’s self publishing platform and be a successful author. 1. Make Your Book's Title and Description Perfect: Craft Business Planner A good Amazon book title and description are important for your book to rank well on Seo. Your book description gives readers a taste and overview of your writing skills and tells them exactly what to expect when they buy your journal or planner . Your journal title and description should look professional. A poorly written description have huge impact on sales. Run your blurb through a grammar checker to check for mistakes and readability. Aim for a genre-appropriate, specific set of rich keywords. Craft Business Planner We’ll talk more about keywords in the next section. Amazon will allow you to use HTML formatting on your descriptions, so get the benefit of this awesome feature. You will be able to organize your keywords. 2. Use long-tail keywords like Craft Business Planner . One of the most important aspects to getting ranked on Amazon self publishing is the seven keyword boxes. They allow you to add up to forty-nine characters. A keyword is a word or phrase that people type into the top search box on Amazon to find a specific journal or planner... You need to focus on specific long-tail keywords. Instead of a broad, short-tail keyword, you might enter Craft Business Planner (a specific long-tail keyword). You can research these using a keyword research tool like Google Keyword Planner Tool, hire an expert in KDP categories and keywords, or simply search for them manually by yourself. Look for keywords that give you only a few results, not thousands, to beat your competition. 3. Choose Extra Categories Amazon KDP has preset categories for books, and it’s hard to choose the best one for your work. When you upload your journal or planner interior, you can select two Amazon categories. Your book might fit into multiple categories. You can also increase your chances of being a bestseller in a category when you choose less competitive categories. A little secret : you can add additional categories with these simple tips : If you can call KDP customer service, KDP will allow you up to eight more categories, for a grand total of ten! 4. Purchase a High-Quality Designed Cover The first thing that Amazon visitors see is your book’s cover. A high quality cover can make a big difference and impact your sales numbers.
There are a ton of elements that impact whether a book cover is engaging. Various classifications have different expectations. A basic cover does not take into account genre trends and expectations. A nonfiction book should not look like a kid's activity book or vice versa. Unless you’re an experienced graphic designer, avoid using tools offered by Amazon. Find an experienced designer who is familiar with your theme and check their portfolio. Try to reach out to other authors for recommendations, or browse Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to find a freelance designer who works with other authors. 5. Emphasize covers and interior design. The quickest way to a one-star review is an ugly book cover or interior. When your print book format is a mess, Amazon's visitors will move on to the next competitor. Don’t gloss over this step. There is a lot of software, like Canva, Photoshop, or Illustrator, that allows you to format your book and make it look professional. You can also outsource your formatting to an expert. In our case, the Craft Business Planner is already formatted for KDP, so you will save a lot of time and money. 6. Adjust Prices for International Markets When you publish a journal or planner on Amazon KDP, make sure that you adjust the price accordingly .99 : This is a marketing psychology that works on any markets. If KDP adjusts the price automatically for other markets, You can manually change it to international prices, however. You can add a .99 to the end of each price for each currency. And keep your eyes on royalty rates. You should also monitor the pricing boundaries for 30% and 70% royalties for each currency. 7. Becoming an Affiliate for Your Own Book Promote affiliate links for your own book and earn 70% royalties! Use your Amazon affiliate link on social media, website links, and anywhere else you can think of. Your amazon affiliate link allows you to earn additional 4% on the selling price of your book. It seems like not much, but that additional 4% can add up quickly with enough sales. Keep in mind that you only get this income when someone buys through your affiliate Amazon link, not from Amazon's search box. Finally, make Amazon KDP your friend; Using tips and tricks like these can assist you in succeeding on Amazon KDP.

okay i tried googling this but i don’t know what to google so. what’s the stitch called that’s used as like, a hem or an ornamental hem, i’ve mostly seen it used on like stuffed animals, that sort of ends up looking like frankenstein stitches? like perpendicular stitches going out and then also a line of thread up the seam. what’s that called.
#sewing#handsewing#alf.txt#i know how to do a lot of Fancy Techniques in a bunch of random craftforms and also know what most @ least basic things#like... If you're someone who gets this kind of yearning a lot, my advice is: join. a. makerspace.
This won't help with the skills and will be much less help with the consumables (so not as much help for traditional art), but they have half of this equipment already -- the soldering irons and the woodworking tools and the sewing machines and whatnot. And they're going to use it not just for you, but for the other members too. So when you go "you know, I've [built a side table], I'm done with [woodworking] for now" you can just move on, switch to sewing a dress or building a clock or whatever, without worrying about the expense of speciallized tools. That's covered by your membership, the tools are communal and will be used by other members as well.
Good makerspaces probably also have a bunch of people who are willing to help you explore new craftforms/artforms, to see if they're a good fit for you and if they're something you'd be interested in.
(I also recommend choosing small highly-acheivable projects to start with as much as possible, so you get that feeling of "look! I accomplished something!" rather than leaving a trail of half-finished projects behind you, but I don't have anything by way of good advice there.)
If you don't have a makerspace in your area, some other options are:
See if your local library has any "Library of Things" items that are relevant. (Some libraries also have mini-makerspaces associated with them, and librarians are great at finding information so you can ask them to help you find a makerspace if you don't know how to look.)
Look into starting a makerspace in your area.
Ask around among your friends, neighbors, family, and other contacts to see if there's anyone who already owns the speciallized equipment and is willing to indulge you in your hobby of trying out hobbies.
Depending on where you are and what you're interested in right now, you might be able to rent some of this equipment.
idk if this is an adhd feel or not but like
as a soul whose life is literally just fueled by loving art, all kinds of art, crafts, every fucking thing creative that involves creating something new by hand
does anyone else just see people doing art, like carving or sculpting or knitting or resin or customizing or sewing or creating visual pieces in a very specific way that is not strictly traditional media and just go “God I wanna do something like that” and the feeling is Genuine but at the same time Heartbreaking because you know you Cant and Wont because each time you feel this way about a newly discovered artform, you know it involves a very specific set of tools to do and thats, obviously, utterly expensive and irresponsible, and impossible to pursue every time you want to try something new and yet you still sit in awe at these people who do these specialized creative arts w/ skills that took years to learn?
do you ever just have a soul that Yearns to build and sculpt art, not for the end result, but for the process and the work and the effort that’s learned?
#adhd#reblogged for the person who needs it#makerspace#the target audience of this is ''literally anyone who sees my post''#if that includes OP then nice! bonus!#but it's not targeted specifically at OP

Studio Craft in Craft Forms at the Wayne Art Center
Tie Me Not Neckpiece featured in CraftForms 2011
Victoria Donohoe from the Philadelphia Inquirer recently reviewed a show my work is featured in called Craft Forms at the Wayne Art Center in Philly.
I was very honored to be selected for the show! 125 works are featured by 109 artists chosen from 894 entries.
Donohue posits the idea that,
"The installation of 21st-century studio crafts in the 17th International Juried Exhibition of Contemporary Craft, "CraftForms 2011," at Wayne Art Center suggests to this observer that there's a paradoxical "homelessness" about the craft art of our century."
Great article! Check it out here! Craft Forms Review
