Edward Teach needs to confront what Izzy Hands represents to him in much the same ways that Stede Bonnet had to confront The Badmintons. A key difference is that Izzy is attached to Ed in a way that Nigel and Chauncey weren't to Stede; more or less ghosts from his past. Izzy is an active, imposing, and arguably obsessive presence to Ed that he can't seem to shake. He'll need to decide how to handle and detach from that in order to be his own fulfilled person. Before he can really participate in a relationship with Stede. I'm looking forward to it! Those men are gonna be happy!!

thinking about transformers and how the story of “we have to hide in plain sight, disguising ourselves so people wont know what we are, because we would not be accepted by society” has always resonated so deeply with lgbtq people.

thinking about the fact that the first explicitly nonbinary character in a transformers show is so open and direct about being nonbinary, insisting that “he” or “she” just doesnt fit who they are.

thinking about the subtle refusal to hide themselves. thinking about the insistence to be recognized for who they are. about lgbtq people connecting for decades with the need to stay hidden. about the new show having an lgbtq transformer coming out and being so open about their identity. thinking. thinking.

If he'd gone back to England, he would have been in a home he no longer recognized after years away, himself fundamentally changed. No one could ever possibly understand what he'd been through or what he'd seen. He might have ended up married, but even then, he would have still been spiritually alone.

But living with the Netsilik? They may not have ever been able to fully grasp what he'd been through, but they knew and understood what Tunbaaq was and the damage it had done. That, at least, was some common ground they shared, and it would have been infinitely more common ground than anything he would've gotten in England. He spoke their language, learned their ways, and they understood at least one of his monsters. He probably found some comfort in being able to shed the skin of Francis and become Aglooka for good.
