Description of Event:

An employee of Dreamworld Entertainment is invited by a friend visiting town to come over to his work to get a gift. Tape is believed to be edited and or tampered with.

Beginning tape playback…

The video begins with two photos on screen, showing a call playback.

On the right is Cesar Torre’s High School photo, showing him smirking at the camera.

And on the left is Mark Heathcliff’s employee ID photo…he is not smiling and looks bored.

“Hello?”

Mark groggily asks, sounding like he just woke up.

“Heya Mark, are you doing good?”

Cesar asks.

(To make reading easier, we will use shortened names to indicate who is talking.)

MH: “Cesar? Why the fuck are you calling me in the middle of the night?”

CT: “Because I came to visit you but the flight got delayed a lot.”

MH: “Look right now I…what?”

CT: “I just got off my flight and can finally call you.”

MH: “...Did you seriously come here, all the way from Mandela County…just to call me?”

CT: “Of course not. I wanted to come by since I forgot to give you your Christmas Present.”

MH: “You could have just mailed it to me.”

CT: “I know but I didn't want to seem like a jerk and just mail you a gift late.”

MH: “Fine…when are you going to get here?”

CT: “Soon…Mind visiting your work first?”

MH: “What? Why?”

CT: “Come on! It's pretty close to you so you won't have to travel 10 miles just so I can give you your gift. Especially with that snowstorm coming in.”

MH: “...Fine. But if Sara fires me I am sending you home with a drop kick.”

CT: “Alright, mind bringing your old video camera to film? Your sis wants a video to see how you're doing.”

MH: “Fine. Let me just get rea-dydydydydydddddddddd-”

Audio glitches out, as Cesar’s face is replaced with Sara Covetmen's face.

The video cuts to dashcam footage of Mark Heathcliff driving to Dreamworld Entertainment.

Snow covers the streets as the radio plays “Let it Snow” before being interrupted by a Weather alert.

“Please be advised that a snowstorm warning has been issued in Erie County, Huron County, Richland County, Ashfield County, and Knox County. If you live in any of these counties, it is advised to stay indoors, light your fireplaces if you have one, turn on heating machines, and wait out the snowstorm. It is advised to stay off the roads and stay indoors-”

“Fucking Ceaser making me come out to my work during this storm…I hope he stays safe.”

Mark sighs as he turns up the heater in his car and turns off the radio.

The camera skips ahead to Mark arriving at Dreamworld Entertainment Facility. The lights were off but the front door was open.

“Seriously Cesar?”

Mark sighs seeing this.

“I am so fired if Sara finds out about this.”

He says beginning to get out and-

The footage cuts to grainy Security Cam footage of Mark entering the Lobby, taking off the hood of his hoodie as he looks around the area.

“CESAR!” He yells, shining the camera’s light around, over cardboard cutouts of the cast and murals. “Why is it so warm in here…shouldn't the night crew have turned off the heater?”

He says confused as he makes his way to an open door to the stairs, leaving the view of the camera.

It then cuts to footage from earlier, showing Cesar walking around Dreamworld. “Mark!...Mark!” He yells, seemingly looking for Mark despite calling him there, suddenly there's the sound of something falling over, and Cesar investigating, once again leaving the view of the camera.

It cuts back to Mark’s camera, walking around the halls Seaventure as he grumbles. “The minute I find him I am going to-”

“To what, Little Guppy?”

Glory asked, revealing herself hidden under the water. It is unknown what to call what Mark did as the camera shakes a lot as he makes a lot of noise. “AH GAH GHUGH! AH!...Glory can you…not do that?” He sighs, after nearly having 20 heart attacks.

“Sorry.” She giggles a bit as she raises her head above the water. “But who exactly are you looking for?” “My friend, Cesar…soon to be Exfriend when I find him for pulling this joke on me.” He grumbles. “Cesar…l-like the Roman Leader?” She giggles a bit

“Yeah, though more annoying and less leadery.” He chuckles as he looks around. “Seen him?” “Sorry hun. Haven’t seen him all night…but I did hear someone heading to Staract.” She says. “Thank you…Have a good night Glory.” He chuckles with a smile beginning to leave. The footage cuts ahead to Mark making it to Staract. “CESAR! You there?!” He yells as he exits the stairwell. Nothing, just empty halls of Murals of stars, and Pictures of Starlight. “Christ when did it get so cold? It feels like-” He was about to finish…when he heard music coming from the Theatre. “Cesar?” He begins to walk past more murals and paintings, as he walks through the doors to the grand theater, rows and rows of star covered seats empty, spotlights shining onto the stage, and at the center…Cesar, a big grin plastered across his face. “Heya Mark. Glad you could make it.” He says, tilting his head to the side as Mark and the camera stare at him. “Uh yeah…Mind explaining how you set this up-” “Oh, Sara helped me silly! She saw how great an employee you were and wanted to help me.” He chuckles, tilting his head to the other side now. “In fact, your gift is with her backstage right now…all you have to do is come here and get it.” He says, his grin growing. “...Yeah let me just get something real quick.” Mark said, turning around and beginning to walk away.

“That’s not Cesar.” He says to himself as his footsteps are joined by Cesar’s. “Markkkkk~ Come back I have a gift for yooooou~” Cesar says, as Mark goes from walking to running. The footage cuts back to Mark’s Dashcam, pointed still towards the front doors to Dreamworld, As Mark comes out of them with a large gash across his right cheek on his face and missing his hoodie.

“Get the fuck away from me!” He yells, opening the car door and shutting it, beginning to try and start it as distorted lobby music is heard coming from the open doors. Mark tries to start the car, headlights flashing on as Cesar is seen slowly walking towards him. 

But quickly Cesar begins to change, growing taller and thinner as his grin grows wider. 

Until finally Mark starts the car and drives off.

It cuts to later, Mark’s camera on the bed as he frantically dials 911.

“Come on come on come on!” He yells, redialing over and over again as a loud weather alert plays on TV.

He seemingly gets an answer.

“PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD HELP ME, SOMETHING IS FUCKING WEARING MY FRIEND AND IT’S AT DREAMWORLD AND-” Suddenly the call is cut off…along with the power. He quickly swears under his breath and grabs his camera and flashlight. Heading to the living room about to leave…as someone knocks on the door.

“H-Hello?! Tell who the fuck you are or so-” “MARK WAIT! It’s me Wiatt, You know from work? I…I got your call about Dreamworld.”

Wiatt could be seen a little through the frosted glass window on the door, Mark doesn’t move. Listening to Wiatt.

“I think Cesar was killed by Sara and had his soul taken, and she might be coming after you to tie off loose ends. But don’t worry, me and Damien can help keep you safe-”

“I didn’t call you.”

Mark interrupted, backing away from the door.

“What? But I-”

“I tried to call those two nutjobs who investigate paranormal activity and keep trying to break into Dreamworld…but not you.”

Mark says slowly backing away from the door.

“...Well, that’s an actual surprise.”

The voice chuckles, becoming distorted and sounding more like Sara.

“I must say, I’m real impressed, really! You saw through my disguise so easily I thought I wasn’t wearing one at first. I mean Cesar was fooled when he saw me in the Staract.” The doorknob shakes as the voice tries to enter.

“But not you, of course though it doesn’t really matter…Let me in Mark.”

The television in the living room suddenly turns on, showing a distorted warning as Mark points the camera at it suddenly.

“If an alternate enters your home, lock yourself in your bedroom, acquire a loaded firearm, and END IT ALL MARK.”

The last part is repeated over and over again. The front door begins to break as the thing slams into it, over and over again. “MARK. LET ME INNNNNN!” The door breaks as Mark runs away, laughter filling his house as he enters his bedroom and locks the door.

He runs to his closet, opening it up and looking through it for something as loud footsteps come closer and closer to his door. Finding a loaded revolver, turning around and facing the door.

Knock, knock, knock. Something begins to knock on the bedroom door as Mark places his camera on the bed, pointing it at the door as he points his gun at it.

“Marrrk. It’s hopeless Mark. We all know what happens next.” The doorknob jiggles as a distorted version of twinkle twinkle little star plays.

“I know what you love.” The voice changes back to Cesar’s voice as the door slowly opens revealing his face.

“I know what makes you human.” The video distorts as Cesar’s face is replaced with what looks like the face of the angel Gabriel.

“I know what you dread.” The voice distorts as Gabriel’s face begins to break apart as eyes open up all over it.

“Nobody is coming for you.”

Mark is heard crying as the door opens more and more. The…thing begins to smile more as it hears this.

“I…have…WON-”

“STOP OR I’LL SHOOT-” BANG.

The footage cuts back to earlier, showing the dashcam of Private Detective Damien Klein’s car, heading home as the radio plays what can be best described as…Smooth Jazz.

Only stopping as he is overtaken by Mark. “The hell?” Damien begins to follow Mark’s car, sensing something off as he gives chase. Pulling up to a stretch of road leading to Mark’s house as yelling is heard in the distance.

He gets out, pulling out his handgun from the glovebox as he walks down the road, dashcam capturing him as he leaves towards Mark’s house.

It cuts back to the…thing getting shot by something off camera, yelling as it falls to the ground.

“You…YOU! WHY ARE YOU HERE?” It yells bursting into Mark’s as Mark fires a shot at it, making it yell out more.

“I came because I saw you on that kid’s car!” Damien yells.

The thing tries to say something but Mark grabs his camera and pushes past the thing in the hall, nearly tripping as the thing roars.

“No matter, it’s already too late to help. I might as well get rid of you along with Mark.” It says as it shapeshifts into a black blob covered in eyes and teeth, laughter filling the hall.

“I have fooled the Shepherds, and I shall kill the angels.”

It laughs as Mark stands up, pointing his gun at the thing with Damien.

“Oh Mark…Do you want to know what Cesar’s last words were?” It chuckles as Mark and Damien stand in silence.

“...OHGODOHGODHELPMEPLEASESOMEONEHELPHELPHELP-” One of its mouths opened up, yelling and screaming from Cesar filled the room…only drowned out by Mark.

“YOU FUCKING BASTARD!” Mark fires at it as the video distorts and glitches out, ending.

Aftermath: On the morning of 01/14/20XX, Damien Klein brought Mark Heathcliff to the hospital, both heavily injured after what Mark claimed to be a fight with a demon. After their wounds were dealt with, Damien brought Mark to his home to fully explain what happened and showed Damien the footage. Mark is currently living with Damien claiming that he doesn’t feel safe at his home. Cesar remains missing.

A New Judgment Chapter 3: Decisions and Meddling (Poly Judgment Day Fic)

Nessa is sitting at the nurse's station towards the end of her shift charting when she hears the receptionist on her walkie. "Nurse Klein, you have a personal call on line 1"

"Thank you" She answers, knowing to not piss off the front desk people. She sighs before she answers the phone, having a good idea who is on the other end. "Nurse Klein pediatrics unit, how can I help you?" There is silence for a moment on the other line before a familiar voice speaks.

"Mijita please hear me out." Comes Rey's voice and Nessa slams the receiver down and pinches the bridge of her nose.

"What's that about boss lady?" Her friend and fellow nurse Olivia asks, taking a seat next to her and begins charting herself.

"Dom's father" Comes her muffled reply as her face is now in her hands.

"We saw what happened last night, fuck him." The young nurse comments showing solidarity with her boss and friend.

Nessa lifts her head and looks at Olivia and cracks a small smile. "Thank you, Liv. He has created such a mess and now I don't know what to do." Nessa laments and leans back in her chair.

"Babes just block the lot of them!" Olivia suggests and shrugs her shoulders as she keeps typing away.

"Liv, I was offered a job, there is already a plan in place here to replace me if I agree and it is more than triple what I make in a year, and it is a three-year contract." Olivia spits out her water she just took a swig of as Nessa explains.

"As what? A nurse? You gonna wrestle or what?!" Olivia rapid fire questions before one of her call lights go off. She goes to take care of it. Nessa sighs in relief that doesn't last long as her walkie comes on again.

"Nessa, that call is back on line 1. Is something going on?"

"Ignore all calls from that number please. I'm sorry it's my ex's father trying to meddle." She explains rolling her eyes.

"That is perfectly fine, thank you for letting us know. By the way you have another call on line 2 now. It's a different number" The voice says. Nessa groans and answers the second line.

"Nurse Klein Pediatrics unit how can I help you?"

"Mi corazon" Dom's voice comes through.

"Dom, I'm at work. We aren't together anymore. Pet names aren't going to make it all better so please just stick to my name. What do you need and please make it quick I am dealing with sick kids." She is a little colder than she wants to be.

"I know about the contract. Paul told us it is a possibility, but it is ultimately up to you. I know this is the only way to contact you at work and I just want to say do what will make you happy. You have spent too long worrying about me and my happiness. You need to focus on yourself. If you decide to sign the contract and join us I will follow your lead. I'll refuse anything that will make you uncomfortable, my priority will be you." Nessa hears a sharp, "T oo much bro ," that she assumes is Damien in the background and rolls her eyes.

"Give me the phone Dom Dom" She hears Rhea command. "Listen, sweetheart, just do you and fuck the rest. Sorry for Dom Dom disturbing you at work. Get back to it doll." Rhea apologizes before hanging up the phone. Nessa looks at the receiver confused before slowly hanging it up.

"What in the world." She mutters to herself as Olivia comes back.

"What he called again?" Olivia sits back down.

"Yes, and Dom called too. He told me to do what makes me happy." She answers, and Olivia rolls her eyes.

"Aww that's sweet but too little too late. Now about that contract. Explain now." Olivia is practically bouncing in her chair.

"Uh, a double contract, medical team, and talent. Basically, an escort to the ring and getting involved and relationship stories. It may turn to wrestling so I would have to train. Right now I have my cousin looking at it."

"Are you going to do it?"

"Maybe, I don't know. There is a possibility I would have to pretend to be back together with him or even do a triangle." Nessa starts to chew on her thumbnail again.

"Could you handle that?" Olivia looks worried.

"On camera, yes, behind the scenes that would hurt almost too much," Nessa admits.

"Would you take him back if he asked?"

Nessa doesn't immediately answer, only the clacking of keyboards filling the silence. Nessa finally answers. "There are some complications if it came to that, he hurt me Liv but there is something there that I need to know, to understand. He would have to earn my trust before I even would consider it even with the complication." Olivia looks confused and like she was going to ask for clarification, but Nessa's walkie cuts her off.

"Nessa, you have yet another personal call on line 1." Nessa thanks them before answering the phone.

"Look, I'm at work and I would very much like to not be fired for taking personal calls on the clock!"

"Nessa, it's Abe. I am doing you a favor for free so I'd appreciate it if you would drop the attitude." Nessa looks chagrined and Olivia laughs.

"I'm sorry Abe, I've been getting calls from Dom and his dad for the last hour or so and got fed up." She apologizes

"It's alright, I know work calls are supposed to be an emergency, so since this is time sensitive, I wanted to tell you I'm done going over the contract and to call me when you get home. I am surprised how good of a contract it is for you." He responds, short sweet and to the point.

"Thanks Abe, I owe you one or 5," She thanks her cousin before hanging up. She looks to Olivia who gives her the spill look. "He said he is surprised how good it is for me and to call him as soon as I get home."

"And does that help your decision at all? When do you have to decide?" Olivia signs out of the computer.

"Not in the slightest." Nessa shrugs.

"Girl there is something you aren't telling me, spill!" Olivia turns her chair to face Nessa.

"I can't, it isn't my business to tell, maybe some other time ok it's time to do the hand off and I have an important call to make." Nessa avoids answering, earning a light glare from her friend. Once home Nessa changes out of her scrubs and calls her cousin. Once the niceties are out of the way he gets down to explaining.

"They don't give you creative control, however, you do get to veto certain aspects of stories. And it is your decision if you want to get physical and must be made in advance. You will be the medical assigned to The Judgement Day for the most part. The contract is more than fair and if they release you from it, they have to pay out the full three-year salary to you. Whoever was involved had your back when this was written. No matches whatsoever unless both parties agree, and this Paul approves and a medical team clears it. I see no loopholes, it is very geared towards you. "

"Well, that would be Rey. His plan, he wants me to get back with Dom and to manipulate him away from the group he is in now. It's his backwards way of apologizing. And a half-assed attempt to incentivize me to do it. What should I do?" She asks as she begins to prepare her dinner.

"You are the party wronged here; it is up to you to decide if he has done what was needed to be forgiven. Before all this you applied to work there and here is your chance even though you aren't with him anymore. Maybe you'll meet a nice boy to marry." He teases and Nessa Scoffs.

"Now you sound like our moms." She groans.

"Look Nes, I'm not telling you to do it but seriously consider it. You can go back to working in hospitals after." He advises and adds, "And as your favorite cousin I think it would be awesome. Speaking strictly as your cousin and not your lawyer I think you should".

"That's why you are my favorite cousin, you are honest." She praises

"And I give you legal advice for free, you owe me a batch of potato candy," he tells her serious about the potato candy.

"Thanks, Abe, I'll bring it next time I come over." She hangs up the phone and sets her bowl on her coffee table and grabs the remote to watch the second night of WrestleMania.

Nessa wakes up the next morning with a splitting headache that she attributes to the stress of the day before. She lays there in bed debating on whether or not she would go in to work. Her thoughts are interrupted by her phone ringing. She sees an unknown number and answers it hesitantly.

"Hello."

"Good morning, Miss Klein, It's Paul, HHH. I know it's early and I apologize, But I would like to have The Judgement Day do a promo to potentially set up for your debut if you decide to join us."

"It's your show sir you can do as you like, you don't have to ask me."

"Well, I do. If we are using your name and likeness with you not being contracted as of yet we need permission to protect against litigation. Also, Have you thought about the offer?" He asks and Nessa slowly gets out of bed and begins getting ready while answering,

"I have been thinking about it and no I don't have an answer yet sir. I still need more time to think on it still. However, I think I'll have my answer by tomorrow sir, yes go ahead and do the promos." She gets her shoes on. The phone call having made the decision for her so she can have some peace.

"That is no problem and thank you, Miss Klein. I do want to let you know if you do say yes we will need to immediately fly you out so you can get your health checks done and start training on how to take bumps if you are going to get physically involved. I'll talk to you again soon." He finishes the call and Nessa groans, grabbing her keys and heading to work. Having decided to give it a try even with her migraine. That way she doesn't have to answer her cell phone which she is sure will be ringing off the hook.

When she gets to the hospital, she makes sure to bring coffee to the front desk as a form of apology for the previous day and for the incessant calls that are sure to happen today. "Please unless it is an emergency take a message don't worry about passing the call along. My ex's father is being relentless, wanting us back together, and is meddling. His mom and sister will try to call too." She warns them and apologizes again before loading the elevator to go to her floor. She goes a few hours into her 12-hour shift before her walkie comes on from the front desk.

"Nurse Klein, Oscar has called 5 times and wants you to call back when you can, an Aalyah has called once and said please call asap it's important and you are needed in the Nurse Manager's office, someone is floating to your floor to cover your patients while you are there." As the front desk finishes speaking the elevator opens and another nurse comes in and up to the station. Nessa gives him the rundown before going to her boss's office.

About an hour later Nessa is back on her floor, her head hurting worse than before mumbling to herself. "it's not my fault the company got involved, I can't stop them from constantly calling self-righteous prick" Olivia hears her grumbles and shakes her head feeling bad for her friend.

"Sounds like your hands are getting tied. Evan always had an issue with women supervisors, and they just handed him the ammo he needed." She points out to Nessa who lays her head in her arms. The floater nurse is still dealing with her patients.

"I almost have no choice, Because of the meddling and calls I now have a target on my back. Even after I'll have to go work at a different hospital." She groans

"If you leave them and don't start dating any of those extremely attractive people that work for that company. I know you are Hella flexible." Olivia teases and Nessa flips her off her head still in her arms.

"Well even if I don't decide I think I need to go to another hospital I can't work with him anymore," Nessa thinks aloud.

"Oh please, we both know you are going to sign that contract. You want closure and it is good money. Plus who knows like I said I saw how you were with those two guys after Dom's fight. And the one that showed you out." Olivia continues to tease and Nessa's head jerks up.

"What that was shown too! And what was said!?" Nessa begins to spiral.

"Calm down, it was at a distance we couldn't hear anything, just saw you making eyes mutually with the tall one. I don't know his name. I don't normally follow the WWE but I'll have to start." Olivia tries to calm her friend who is rubbing her temples now.

"That is Damien, and he constantly flirts, every other word is a cutesy nickname. I did not make eyes at him!" Nessa denies, and Olivia gives her a look like " Sure " and just laughs. "Look since I have a floater covering me, I am going home early, I'll call you because apparently the decision has been made for me." Nessa gets up and hugs Olivia. "Once I give my answer I have to fly out and get testing done as well as start training immediately." She explains, saying goodbye without saying the words and gathering up her stuff.

"Go and call me as much as you can, I need the tea. Especially if you get with tall dark and broody!" Olivia calls out as Nessa boards the elevator and glares out as the doors close.

Once Nessa is in the car, she can't help but start crying, so she just sits there wallowing, overwhelmed because yet again a Mysterio has wrecked her life. She finally collects herself and wipes the tears off her cheeks and goes to start the car, ignoring her cell phone ringing. Nessa just lays on her couch under her weighted blanket trying to find some semblance of comfort, just staring at the tv. Eventually, she gets annoyed at the phone ringing and answers after looking at the caller id.

"Yes Aalyah?" She sniffles, still crying on and off.

"I thought the plan was to get you two back together. You are my sister and I thought it might work and you'd be happy again. You haven't been yourself since he left. I didn't know they were going to try to manipulate him by using you. I was just so excited and wanted Dom to suffer for hurting you. I didn't think it through. I am so sorry. I should have spoken up for you and put my anger for him aside to protect you."

"In your eagerness to punish Dom you hurt me. I see you understand why that is bad and you feel true remorse for it. So, I appreciate that Aalyah, and I accept your apology. But understand I'll need time, it won't be as it was between us for a while."

"I understand Ness." She sighs in relief and continues, "Look he is an idiot for what he did to you. We thought he would marry you, Hell, he gave you the bracelet." She complains and Nessa sits up.

"Yeah well, I gave it back. I am honored to be a part of its history but it's not rightfully mine." She explains to Aalyah who is shocked into silence. "Pops is still meddling, he got them to give me a contract and buy out my current one at work and had it in place for me to say yes. I basically quit today because it put a target on me from my boss so I have no choice now." Nessa groans, glad to have someone on the inside to talk to again.

"I think I overheard something about that Saturday, but I wasn't sure that's why I didn't tell you. I think I might be part of that too. I'm sorry for the calls, Dad asked me to call you at work I'm sorry I didn't know." She apologizes again, beginning to see how desperate her parent are and are hurting someone innocent in the situation. "Look since you are apparently doing it, you can get back at Dom for what he did or even get back together with him," Aalyah continues and Nessa groans and throws her head back.

"Not this again, I just want him to be happy and for me to finally move on. He is happy with who he is with, and I support that. And I won't be trying to split them up." Nessa tells her sternly.

"Fine fine, maybe you can find someone else to make you happy. Maybe like-" Aalyah starts but Nessa cuts her off seeing where that is going.

"Aalyah no not you too. You sound like Abe and Olivia. There wasn't anything between us."

Aalyah starts laughing, "Sure, Nes nothing there besides sexual tension even though you just met. But I'll leave it be for now." She agrees.

"Also please tell your parents to stop calling me, if and when I am ready to talk I will. You wanted to make things right then back me up please." Nessa almost begs.

"Of course, sis, I have your back always. Just answer one question." Aalyah takes the silence as a go-ahead. "What are you going to wear? Either way, they won't be able to keep their eyes off you." Aalyah asks all sorts of giddy.

"Goodbye Aalyah I'll talk to you later." Nessa hangs up the phone tired of the teasing. She looks at the time and decides to tune into Raw.

She watches interested, as HHH comes out and thanks everyone behind the scenes even friends and family who support and he glances at the camera as says it. She listens as he continues his speech and is confused as he doesn't bring her up but introduces Roman Reigns. She rolls her eyes and just picks up her phone to read through her text messages. She sees many from Dominik and a few from the remaining judgment day members that she saved as they initially texted her, and she ignores them not having the energy to expend to have any of those conversations. There is only one she responds to.

"Hey, just want to make sure you are ok, I know we laid a lot on you Saturday." Rhea's message was to the point.

"Yes, I am ok, just dealing with the fallout from the mess Rey caused it isn't anything to do with what we discussed. Though I don't know how to answer you either." She responds, not paying any attention to Cody and Roman in the ring.

"Don't worry about it. When you are ready to discuss that we'll be here beautiful. Though I do have to say you have some good chemistry with us." She points out.

"That is just because you are all insanely attractive," Nessa texts back.

"And so are you, don't go putting yourself down again we won't allow that even as friends" Rhea orders making Nessa smile to herself.

"Yes Mami" Nessa responds jokingly but gets a shock back.

"Good girl." Is all it says, and Nessa lets out a squeak and her face flushes again and she is grateful she is home alone. She turns her attention to another text message that just came in.

"Chiqui, I hope you watch Raw tonight. Maybe it will sway your decision so we will see you again soon."

"At least he only messages me and doesn't blow up my phone." She mutters to herself and glances at the tv again to see Bad Bunny being interviewed and she rolls her eyes as Rey's music comes on after and makes his entrance into the ring before grabbing a mic.

"I want to take a moment to thank you the WWE universe because you have welcomed me with open arms. Thank you. I also want to apologize to someone who should be my daughter-in-law Nessa. I was wrong to bring her to WrestleMania and would like to apologize face to face later this week on Smackdown if you would Mijita." Nessa leans forward as he then thanks Bad Bunny before Austin Theory's music comes on and he comes out to the ring challenging Rey to a match. She clasps her hands together as a ref comes out and the match eventually starts.

She keeps a close eye on the match having a gut feeling Dominik is going to interfere and she isn't disappointed as he runs down the ram and jumps on the apron as Rey sets up a 619 and gets hit. He falls to the ground Damien not too far behind him helping him up. They stay there until Austin wins the match and Damien tells Dom to get in the ring and Damien winks at the camera before following Dominik in the ring as he beats on his dad who is just laying there.

Not long after he turns his attention to Bad Bunny and jumps out of the ring standing in front of him trading words Bunny claiming he did the right thing. Dominik turns to walk away, and Bunny runs his mouth again

"She's better off without you."

Dom turns around throwing a punch only for it to be blocked and Bunny punches him instead. He falls to the floor scooting back, Damien rushing to his side to check on him. Damien throws up his arms before yanking Bunny over the barricade and throwing him to the ground yelling at him, "You didn't need to get involved bro".

Bunny gets to his feet and shoves Damien back. Dom grabs Bunny and spins him around throwing another punch only for it to get blocked again and get another punch to the face. Damien, fed up by now throws his arms up again and drops Bunny and takes off his jacket. Damien then drags Bunny over to the announce table and slams him through it.

"You don't get to mention her, don't even think about her." he growls out and Dom pats his shoulder in thanks before jumping back in the ring and grabbing Rey and stomping on him for a bit. He then exits the ring and makes his way up the ramp next to Damien. They pause at the top of the ramp, Damien's arm around Dom's shoulders repeating,

"You shouldn't have gotten involved," And they watch as Rey and the medical team rush over to check on Bunny before the Tv goes to commercial. She gets up and paces for a while, knowing that was the opening for her to join, tapping her phone against her lips. She glances at the tv as she sees Rhea confront Bianca Belair.

She finally decides to hit dial and holds the phone up to her ear.

"Hello, Miss Klein." Comes the voice on the other end and Nessa takes a breath "I'll do it."

Bengiyo's Queer Cinema Syllabus

For those who are not aware, I have decided to run the gauntlet of @bengiyo’s Queer Cinema Syllabus and have officially started Unit 2: Race, Disability, and Class. There is something I desperately love in film and television that I certainly do not talk about enough, and that is when an object or a setting acts as a character within a story (i.e. the Poor Boy shirt in Only Friends or Wilson in Castaway). While I have a background in technical theater and I am a slut for lighting design especially, I have realized over the past few months of writing immense amounts of media analysis that I never really set out in watching a show with a particular technical element in mind to discuss (by which I mean I did not go in to movie with the intention of paying attention to the costume design and discussing it’s significance). But in Being 17 what very quickly became apparent to me was the weather, the landscape, and coming out the other end of this film, the weather felt like a character all on it’s own. 

The film begins and all we see on screen is white, snow covered mountains, minimal dialogue, just the sound of snow crunching beneath feet, sniffles from runny noses, etc. During the entire first trimester of Thomas and Damien’s school year there is snowfall for as far as the eye can see. I recognize this is probably a strange place for me to start in writing up my thoughts on this film, but I am working my way through the Race, Disability, and Class Unit of the syllabus right now, so I think paying attention to setting is vitally important. Especially for this film, because Thomas is Black, Thomas is poor, and Thomas is the adoptive son of a white couple.

Personally, I don’t think the movie does a deep dive in to the subject of race, but that does not mean that conversations about race do not exist in the film. I just see them being placed there more subtly. In the way that the only thing our eye can differentiate in the vast blanket of thick, white snow, is a backlit, black silhouetted figure trudging across the screen. Thomas is the only Black person in his family, Thomas goes to a school with very few people of color, Thomas gets invited to stay with Damien’s family who are also all white. And I loved that in the beginning of this story, when Thomas is reserved, withdrawn, aggressive, and self-isolating that there is almost no place that he can go to escape whiteness. The whiteness at school, the whiteness at home, the whiteness at Damien’s, the whiteness outside. 

And literally just now as I was writing that up I realized that there is one place that Thomas frequents in the movie, especially when there is still snow on the ground, and that is a lake at the top of a mountain, where the water is black.

Anyway, I say all this because the weather in this film is a character to me, a physical manifestation of the feelings between Thomas and Damien. In the first trimester, in the winter, the feelings Thomas has for Damien are ice cold (or at least appear that way). Damien and Thomas are actively hostile to one another, Thomas especially initiates a number of fights between himself and Damien (oh the intricate rituals that allow men to touch the skin of other men). Damien recites poetry in class and Thomas trips him, Thomas can’t solve a math equation and Damien insults him, if they are in the same space for more than thirty seconds blows will be exchanged. 

We learn in the first trimester that Thomas’ mother is sick, that he lives up in the mountains on a farm and travels three hours round trip to get to school, we learn that his mother is pregnant, and that Thomas is a consolation child. I love how much subtlety there is in this film, how much a single line can reveal so much about a character’s behavior. Soon after Thomas learns of his mother’s pregnancy, he is talking with his father about all the failed pregnancies that had happened before Thomas. Thomas asks his father “If she had [birthed a child], I wouldn’t be here?” to which his father, smiling, light hearted, and jokingly says yes. Yes, if Thomas’ mother had had her own biological child, then they would not have adopted Thomas. The line is delivered, the actors react in such a way that an audience might not see the emotional impact, until the scene cuts to Thomas sitting in bed, staring out the window. 

Tom’s mom goes to the hospital, and Dr. Delille suggests that Thomas come and stay with her and Damien for a while. The reasoning is that Thomas is falling behind in school, he has a long commute, he works the farm at night. It is very difficult for him to concentrate on his studies. The Delille family lives closer to the school, they are close to the hospital where Thomas’ mother is staying. Thomas wants to be a vet, he knows that the more his grades slip the slimmer the chance that he can make it to vet school. But he is incredibly resistant to the idea of staying at the Delilie’s, saying he loves the mountains, he wants to be able to help take care of the farm, and despite the fact that these are both generally true for him, you can see and understand exactly why Thomas is pushing so hard to stay at the farm. He has heard mere days ago that a successful pregnancy of his mother’s would have resulted in him never being adopted, and now here is a pregnancy that is seemingly going well, and his parents are suggesting he move away from home and go stay with another family.

I want to make it clear, this is not a conscious or insidious effort on his parents’ part to get rid of Thomas, they genuinely want him to stay at the Delille’s because they believe being closer to school, and having a smart adult around to help with homework questions will help get Thomas’ grades up. But we know that is where Thomas’ mind is wandering because he makes a half-joking comment to Dr. Delille about it: “Finally, a real child,” and to Dr. Delille’s credit, she does not let that comment just skate by, telling Thomas “there are no fake children.” 

Now that Thomas and Damien are living under the same roof and have been forced by Damien’s mom to call a truce to their constant fighting, they are starting to tolerate each other, to get along, to be able to share space. And when they do want to fight, they make a plan. Thomas picks a time and place, and both of them drive in the same car to the middle of the woods to fight each other. Rain falls, and they pause their fight to retreat to a cave for shelter, sharing a cigarette after they just beat the shit out of each other. [It is here where Ben’s voice popped in my head with his commentary on how boys fight, get it out of their system, and then are chilling with each other very soon after they’ve fought. This is a very accurate depiction of that observation from Ben.]

Thomas takes Damien to the lake he hikes to in the middle of the night, and wouldn’t you know it, Thomas and Damien sharing more about themselves, growing closer to become friends, happens at the same time that the snow begins to melt. The warmer months are approaching, and so too is Damien and Thomas’ relationship beginning to warm up. 

With less pressure on him, more time to study, and a shorter commute, Thomas’ grades start to improve, and one of my favorite scenes in the movie is when Thomas’ teacher tells the whole class he got the highest grade, and Thomas is trying to hide his smile. I love that this film takes the time to show that Thomas does actually really care about school. That he cares about his grades. And I think adjacent to that, it adds additional weight to Thomas’ initial refusal to leave his parents due to his fear of being replaced. Damien starts his gay awakening, at which point we get a “I don’t know if I am in to guys or just you” moment.

And it is at that point I remember this whole syllabus is a warm up to BL, which makes me much more tolerant of the passing gay for you trope. (That said, considering the number of posters of men Damien has in his room, I think he is definitely queer). At the place in the story where Damien says this to Tom, there have been zero conversations about Damien’s growing feelings for Thomas. So, props to him for just coming right out and saying it. But with that comment spoken, the summer months are approaching. All the ice has melted, we start moving towards lighter clothing, fewer layers, and well, wouldn’t you know it the boys are getting along.

Where before Thomas would never be caught dead in the same space as Damien, even walking on opposite sides of the street to go back to Damien’s house so it didn’t seem like they were together. Now, they are sitting next to each other in class, they are acknowledging each other’s presence, they are talking and smiling, where everyone can see them. The weather is warm, the ice is gone, and the boys are sharing awkward, quick, exploratory, and messy kisses that bring Thomas’ internalized homophobia to the surface. 

Thomas hits Damien, is expelled from school, is made to return to his home in the mountains, and he stays there until Damien’s father dies, and Thomas’ own father drags his sorry ass out of the house and makes him go to the funeral. Damien’s mom spirals in to a major depressive episode, and Thomas is the first person to drag her out of the house, and to get her outside. He takes her to the mountains, the mountains that he loves, and they get out of the car and they are surrounded by fog. 

Which, again, on the subject of weather being a character, the weather being reflective of the emotional state of the characters. Thomas is a child, taking care of an adult, an adult who has just lost the love of her life, and who cannot see the sunlight through the clouds. Thomas wants to show Dr. Delille something beautiful, but she can’t see it yet. Thomas moves back in to the Delille’s house to help Damien take care of his mother. She steadily improves, the sunlight returns to the mountains and there is greenery as far as the eye can see. Things are bright, and colorful, and rich just in time for Thomas to get cool with his feelings for Damien, and fuck him. 

And, god the sex scene was cringey in the best possible way. The fact that I recoiled at Damien using his spit as lube, and Thomas just inserting his penis in to Damien’s asshole without any prep, I was like, “if you’re gonna show cock and balls, why are you showing such irresponsible- oh yeah, they are literally seventeen year olds having gay sex for the first time” which makes it work quite well for me. 

By/For/About

I would put this somewhere between By and About Queers or By, For, and About Queers I think. Fun Fact though, the title, Being 17 came from a 1870 French poem called ‘Roman’ by Arthur Rimbaud, who was a gay man.

Favorite Moment

My favorite moment is after Damien’s dad’s funeral, Thomas finds Damien practicing on a punching bag. Thomas who at this point has run from his feelings for Damien, head butted Damien after Damien kissed him, and had initially refused to go to the funeral says “I’m with you, for your Dad,” which results in Damien sobbing in to Thomas’ arms. Which is glorious on its own, but to follow it up with them having to pry themselves apart from on another because Dr. Delille has walked outside, to follow her together, and then have to physically manhandle her and bring her back inside their house so she didn’t injure herself was just so expertly done. Full of love and tragedy, and was equal parts beautiful and heartbreaking to witness.

Favorite Line

“They tell me things will get better. I know they’ll get better. I even hope so. But I also know that I won’t have accepted his death then. I’ll just have forgotten he died.”

If I had seen this movie a month ago, it is likely that I would have had a different favorite line. But as it so happens there has been a surprising amount of death happening inside and on the outskirts of my life recently, so these lines just hit different.

9/10, it was a little slow for my tastes and it did not capture me emotionally the way some of the other films I've seen so far have, but it was all very well done, especially considering that it was filmed in 8 weeks.

Celio was not prepared for this school board meeting.

They had been called in to discuss... something concerning Sara and safety? No one had clarified anything.

"Klein, have a seat." One of the parents, they believed Melanie Bright, gestured to an empty seat for them.

It was always slightly amusing to see people just use their last name and give up on titles. The only people in the room they recognized were Melanie Bright, Samuel and Jennifer Acrimony, and Eric Gale. They weren't quite sure why Eric was here. He wasn't one of the normal teachers on the board, Sara had told them who those were.

"Celio, some of the parents on the board have... concerns about Sara's behavior." Mr. Acrimony explained.

"She hasn't been getting into fights, has she?"

"No, it's just that-"

"We're relatively certain your child's using magic, and we are not putting up with that!" Ms. Bright yelled.

Everyone was still. Some in shock, some in embarrassment, other's with stern expressions. Eric Gale in particular seemed taken aback. It was clear he had no idea what was going on.

Celio, meanwhile was coming up with ways to explain how absured these people sounded.

"I believe we've been over this before-" They started, before being cut off.

"This isn't about that Damien boy's eye! It's about... Sara's behavior." Mrs. Acrimony grit out her name, like saying it would curse her.

"I still don't see how you have any right to accuse her of witchcraft. This isn't the Salem witch trials."

"Oh, sure, just wave it away so quickly. How do you explain the staring into the woods all the time? The brash behavior? The old treehouse that no one else can get into? So much piles up, you can't just ignore it!" Ms. Bright said, listing the most random points of contention Celio had ever heard.

"Ms. Bright, I really have no idea how this proves that Sara's a witch. She's a perfectly normal girl, albeit a little harsh." Eric said, in an attempt to help Celio resolve the situation.

"Mr. Gale, I really have no idea how you have any right to be here. Isn't your daughter roughly eight? She isn't even in school again yet, since you only just-" Eric cut her off.

"Melanie, you're the one who has no right to be here. I'm here for my other kid, and besides I'm a teacher. Last I checked, legally you had no children."

Celio wasn't certain what that situation was, but they took the opportunity to stand up.

"I believe there is nothing more to discuss. Have a nice day." And with that they left.

As they walked out of the school, they laughed, muttering to themselves.

"Idiots. She sees demons, not performs magic."

Headcanon lists doesn’t really have a limit (the more characters included, the shorter the headcanons!) and scenarios will be maxed at 3 with fanfictions, obviously, at 1. Fanfictions will not be multiple chapters.

Ok so i am just a person who is interested in law and Not an actual lawyer so take all of this with a grain of salt BUT

Ohio is a one party consent state meaning that in any recording where wiatt is an active participant in that conversation that is technically legal (though still morally questionable in most cases), and additionally its legal to record in public places where there is no reasonable expectation of privacy

HOWEVER

in cases like in the Klein household where there absolutely is a reasonable expectation of privacy and wiatt was Not part of that conversation that is illegal as he did not have consent of at least one party to be filming that conversation and according to the Reporters committee for freedom of press(rcfp), illegally recording an in person or electronic conversation is a felony offense in the state of ohio (specifically a felony of the fourth degree according to the ohio laws website) and punishment for a fourth degree felony in ohio is a minimum of 6 months jail time, and a maximum of 18 months. Returning to the rcfp website it is an additional felony for the “use” or “attempted use” of illegally obtained recordings through disclosing them, and it could be argued wiatt is using the recordings by uploading them to youtube. (Though most likely not as use in this sense is most likely being defined as blackmail)

Finally as a civil suit anyone whos conversation has been recorded or disclosed in violation of the law (ie damien or oliver, or really a long list of characters in this show) can bring a civil suit to recover damages, 200 dollars for each day of the violation, or a fine of 10,000 dollars, in addition to paying punitive damages and attorneys fees.

What wiatt did especially with recording olivers love confession and then uploading it was SUPER not legal, and it was at least one possibly more felony charges along with several thousand dollars in fines

Again im just a guy who likes law and enjoys doing research, i could be wrong and dont take any of this seriously, but theres my general conclusion!
