Raph has a... very strained relationship with his dad. He holds a grudge against him for not having been present in his and his siblings' lives when they needed a father figure most.

I'm still figuring stuff out but I wanted his dad to be a sort of showman? So he's always been away, always prioritizing his work (and "fame") over the well-being of his own children. Raph admired him growing up, but as he grew up, he slowly started despising him. His anger towards him grew tenfold when he came out as trans and his dad rejected him completely, and he decided it was best for him to cut ties with him entirely the moment he moved out of their house.

So yeah. For Raph, seeing him show up suddenly at his uncle's doorstep, acting all worried and caring... it feels all too fake. He's ain't willing to forgive and forget.

I think, this is a very difficult situation to parse for a lot of people.

Because you can't know what goes on inside a person's head, you can't know the kinds of thoughts that led them to do as they did. I think we can't really tell whether or not the outrage that is now shown is in parts performative, genuine, manipulative or conflicted.

But we do know the facts. We do know who spoke up when, who collaborated with Wilbur, who supported Shubble initially, etc. Why these people spoke up when they did, we don't know, but it doesn't really matter, I think.

What this fandom needs to learn more than anything is that these content creators are not your friends. And treating their outrage now - when it is safe to be outraged - as a sign that you should continue thinking of them in such a manner, is dangerous.

This fandom is full of teenagers and young people for whom, I think, it must be difficult to parse that their favourite content creators might be disingenuously trying to save their own image through a dunk on Wilbur right now.

We don't know if they are, but we need to be aware of that possibility! We can't give content creators in that space carte blanche to be "one of the good ones".

everyone has already pointed this out and much more intelligently but the whole plot of lore olympus really comes down to rachel telling the audience whom to hate without putting any work into proving why

like we are no strangers to character assassination demeter legion has been going thru it since day one, but rachel is so staggeringly bad at writing genuine villains that she has to pull random ass acts of evil out of nowhere to justify her pinning certain characters as bad guys. and it’s proof of her writing by the seat of her pants yeah, but when in doubt she just throws characters under the bus so long as it props persephone and hades up

the narrative NEVER shows us zeus or demeter doing evil things, but they’ve run afoul of the main couple, so we are told they are villains. zeus has proven he’s a bad husband, sure, but not a bad king - but rachel needs to escape the corner she had written herself into, so suddenly zeus is a wife abusing monster on par with kronos. arguably the only genuine villain we see do something 1000% wrong is apollo, and rachel still can’t decide if he’s some brilliant mastermind or some idiot being played. in fact, the narrative is kinder to apollo than it is to zeus or kronos, and that’s saying something

like yeah it’s lazy writing to have zeus be the Bad Guy when we have fucking kronos and also apparently ouranos but honesty it just feels so disrespectful. rachel simply cannot figure out how to write a bad guy so she just keeps throwing random characters in the woodchipper and hopes it buys her a week. it’s such a waste of potential, such a demonstration of her failings as a writer, and a total disregard and lack of knowledge of the myths she claims to be basing this on
