This year's Bombay Truck Show has some truly amazing rigs on display.
Perhaps the most special one was this gorgeous 1938 Diamond T 614D fuel tanker with a streamlined body.
New to a Texaco dealership/distributor (Dominick Oil Co), it worked out of Newberry County, South Carolina.
It was sold c. ? to the local lumber mill, and was used as a water tanker to keep the logs moist. It remained in faithful service until c. 1980, when it was purchased by a local citizen and stored in the mill yard.
The mill closed down, and it was relocated to a towing yard owned by a mate of the owner. It then sat for 25 years.
With the unfortunate passing of the tow yard owner, the truck sat in the elements and was offered for sale in 2010. In 2018 it was imported here, and in February 2023 it was finished after a 4½ year restoration.
With thanks to @shortfineel for joining me.

Mid-30s ad for a Diamond-T truck.
The Diamond T Company was an automobile and truck manufacturer that produced low cost ($575 would be about 13,500 adjusted for inflation) commercial and military trucks.
The were around from 1905 to 1957.

So I've taken a break from posting but have recently commented on someone else which sparked the urge to get back into it.
This is something I've picked up since we've talked last.

1934 Diamond T Doodlebug Texaco Tanker Truck

1934 Diamond T Doodlebug Texaco Tanker Truck by Vinnie DeVille Via Flickr: Vintage image of a 1934 Diamond T Doodlebug Texaco Tanker Fuel Truck. One prototype was made and only six manufactured. The license plate reads 1935 Illinois. This found photograph is from the private collection of an unknown and/or unknowing art collector. It’s always a thrill when it’s from Vinnie DeVille!

An interesting one from the Bombay Truck Show.
Although the star of the show was arguably the Diamond T 614D, there was considerable interest levelled at the Mercer Transport Museum's Diamond T 921 6x4.
New to ??? in 195x, it was purchased by Tranz Carr Heavy Haulage from the estate of Neil Otway (of Otway's fame) and given a minor refurb.
Its history is entirely unknown, but given the rarity of Diamond T and Diamond REO products here*, it is possible that this is an Australian import. Unfortunately its history may never be revealed but it is super cool to have two later Diamond Ts in preservation. With a possible third, assuming that it was sold to a preservationist, 634 also surviving.
*Other than a few smaller 4x2 flatdecks, few Diamond T products operated here. Furthermore only(?) the Union Steam Ship Company (P&O) operated Diamond REO products, having a sole 6x6(?) artic.
With thanks to @shortfineel for joining me.

Another standout of the 2022 Greenwich Concours pickup truck class was this 1949 Diamond T 201.
