Are we now talking about Chris Evans movies we like where we think he was pretty good, but he didn’t *quite* hit the mark? Because for me it’s Loss of a Teardrop Diamond. Yeah, his accent was iffy but he portrayed the moral yet conflicted, handsome yet out-of-his-depth character pretty well—in hindsight, it was a good precursor to Steve Rogers. Though he also hit an “emotional wall” in a key scene here too. Still, I think he showed potential… sadly, I don’t think he’d risk doing a small but challenging movie like this again.

Honestly, that's in no way on him that TLoaTD doesn't really come together. I love Tennessee Williams, but I absolutely see why he abandoned that script after it was never produced. There was some missing part to the plot that would have helped better flesh the story out; don't know exactly what, but I know each time I watched the movie I was left feeling there was a key ingredient missing, like when you forget a spice in a recipe. I thought he did the best he could with what he had in terms of script and directing, and think it was actually an out of the box choice for his career at that time in 2007. And, hey, he looked really good in the costumes.
