I just couldn't pick one character, so here are pairs that are my all time favourites.

It was so hard to pick favs, and after I came up with this list I realised that I picked from Korean and Taiwanese BLs, but that doesn't mean I have any favs from Thai BL. Others I would have loved to put on this list- Ayan from The Eclipse, Boston from Only Friends, Tang Yi from HIStory 3: Trapped Charn from Laws of Attraction and many more.

Best 2023 BL Side Couples

Every now and then the side couple steals the show, and you find yourself tuning in for the 2 minutes they get per episode versus the actual plot. Here are my faves of the year:

Moonlight Chicken: Li Ming ❤️ Heart

While this series may not have made my top 10 this year, this couple did. I'm a sucker for "irresponsible person learns how to be responsible through acts of love for someone who is physically impaired" story lines. (See also Last Twilight.) So every sweet gesture that rebellious Li Ming made to make deaf Heart's life more joyful and inclusive, including learning how to sign, made whatever was going on between the lead characters, Jim and Wen, an afterthought.

Kiseki: Dear to Me: Ai Di ❤️ Chen Yi

I love when the smitten one gives up riiiight before their crush is like Oh wait, I like you too! Theory of Love is another example of this, but KDTM did it better. You never really grew to hate Chen Yi, and understood why it took so long for him to see Ai Di as more than a friend. Baby boy was not really giving off crush vibes. More like in desperate need of therapy vibes. Thankfully, Chen Yi was immune to Ai Di's hostility, proving he was his perfect match.

Never Let Me Go: Ben ❤️ Chopper

There was so much going on in this drama that this pairing barely got enough screen time, and yet by the end of the series, I was daydreaming about them moving abroad together and living happily ever after. Loving the Chimon x Perth era. Hope to see more of it.

Unintentional Love Story: Kim Dong Hee ❤️ Go Ho Tae

I actually found the main pairing a tad meh, and was far more interested in the childhood bffs turned strangers subplot. I mean, the minute Ho Tae attempted to learn Spanish to impress Dong Hee, who fantasized about having a Spanish lover, I was hooked. I could watch an entire spinoff of these two with flashbacks to their youth and how their bond originally formed.

OK usually I’m not here for immediate post episode analysis but @bidisasterevankinard asked and I’m powerless against that I said yes.

In 7x05 You Don’t Know Me we have a fraught Buck, who has made some absolutely terrible word vomity decisions on his date with Tommy. His secondary concern? Lying to his Best Friend. Maybe they discussed this part off screen (as many things are implied to be in this show) but Eddie presumably doesn’t know that that’s what was eating Buck alive. That he lied.

NOW in 7x07 Ghost of a Second Chance we have Eddie. Eddie who uses Buck as part of his own (very premeditated) lie. Because he obviously can’t ask Marisol to watch Chris. (Meaning he also doesn’t have to add anyone else to the lie by telling her he’s hanging with a friend or has a shift. So we’ll give him that one small, microscopic fragment of recognition.)

Eddie doesn’t ask Buck to lie outright, but Buck thinks Eddie’s going on a date with Marisol. Y’know, his girlfriend. What else is Eddie supposed to say?

This will be one of the few (only?) times we’ll see Eddie needing Buck’s forgiveness. Because how could Buck not be furious to be used like that? That’s his partner. His bestie. His ride or die. The person who said there’s nobody in this world I trust with my son more than you. The person Eddie has been the most vulnerable with.

Can’t imagine that’s gonna go well for anyone.

three post-canon headcanons for kiseki, go!

WHOAGH OKAY i wanted to keep this one until i was done with work and could put some serious brain power into it.

This is gonna be a sad one but I don't think Zhou Ming Lei lived for very long after leaving the family, probably 5-10 years or less. He looked so tired in the last episode and so worn down. I think they got married, maybe a year or so after they left the family, and after his death I don't think Chen Dong Yang moved on but I think he continued to live in the quiet, understated house that they had gradually turned into a cozy home together.

I fully believe the conversation in the car about death was Ai Di and Chen Yi's version of a proposal. I don't think either of them give a shit about a proper marriage, laws have never been something they've had much regard for anyway and they certainly don't need a piece of paper to show their love. What they have is forged in blood and acts of devotion and loyalty. I do think maybe one day, when his guilt has faded, Chen Yi asks for Zong Yi's help to make a cake for Ai Di to give him a proper ring, something with a unique design so any time Ai Di punches someone it leaves the imprint on their skin. (Ai Di fucking loves it.)

Zong Yi mentions at one point in the show that he is attending treatment for his memory loss. I believe with time it does get better, but not completely. Some things can only be healed so much. He has some particularly bad brain fog days, gets more easily frustrated on those days, and still has to reach for his notebook from time to time. He doesn't like to talk to Fan Ze Rui about it, doesn't like the way his face shutters with guilt. Maybe someday they each decide to go to therapy; either together or separately.

idk how accurate these are but they're just kinda thoughts i have floating in my head, i don't really get too attached to any headcanons bc they're really just that, silly little thoughts to try and spackle in some gaps, but i think they're entertaining to think about!
